Democrats Reject Trump's Newest Shutdown Offer

President Donald Trump offered today limited protections for so-called Dreamer immigrants in exchange for $5.7 billion to build his proposed border wall.

Even before his remarks Saturday, Democrats reject the offer as inadequate.

In a statement before Trump spoke Saturday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the proposal "a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable and in total, do not represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people's lives." Democrats noted that the proposal would not offer as much certainty to immigrants who, under previously discussed plans, would have been legally protected for longer and could have had a path to citizenship.

UPDATE:Trump Has Repeatedly Floated the Idea of U.S. Leaving Nato: NYT

President Donald Trump has made his disdain of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, amply clear. He’s lambasted the decades-old alliance as “obsolete,” erroneously accused other members of owing the U.S. money and even came close last summer to threatening to withdraw America from the alliance if other members didn’t increase their defense spending.

OPEC’s giant strides and dwindling relevance

OPEC Headquarters, Vienna

The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) formed in 1960 had the mandate of coordinating and unifying the petroleum policies of its member countries and to ensure the stabilisation of oil markets in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum products to consumers, steady income to producers, and fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry. In achieving this mission, OPEC, a 15-member organization has, of late been faced with complex challenges arising from uncertain prospects for the global economy; excessive speculation, and the role of financial markets. The impacts of geopolitics; advances in technology and their impacts on exploration and production; as well as, environmental concerns are reportedly critical to the survival of the organization.

A special deployment of Brazilian troops began fanning out in the northern city of Fortaleza Saturday with orders to stop a spike in violent attacks by criminal gangs against banks, buses, and shops, officials said. By the end of the weekend, 300 soldiers will be patrolling that city and other towns in Ceara state in a bid to halt the rampage, national public security secretary Guilherme Teophilo said, according to government news agency Agencia Brasil.

‘Name Federal University of Tecnology Akure after Shagari’
I was very saddened when I learnt of the departure of Former President and Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Usman. Our departed former President who had the rare opportunity of ruling Nigeria during the Second Republic, was indeed a man of honour, dignity and character. He was a very considerate, accessible, objective, selfless and kind man.
I had the rare privilege of meeting him when I was a Counsel to the Federal Government in Justices Ayo Irikefe enquiry into an alleged 2.8 billion pounds diverted from the central bank of England into a private account in Midland Bank in England.
What stands this epitome of decency and integrity out is his vaunting patriotism, open door policy, simplicity, humility and his love for education.
