The United Kingdom Metropolitan Police have formally charged two Nigerians with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.

The suspects were arrested and charged over their plan to bring a child into the country to allegedly harvest the said child’s organs.

The two arrested suspects were identified as Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, from Nigeria.

The suspects who have been remanded in custody will appear at Uxbridge magistrates court later on Thursday.
They are charged with conspiracy to harvest organs, The Guardian UK reports.

According to the report, the charges involve arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting, the Met said in a statement.

The child involved has been safeguarded, according to the Met.
The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspected members of a robbery syndicate on their way to execute an operation.

The state police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Friday in a statement.

Oyeyemi said the suspects; a 27-year-old Ibiyemi Wasiri a.k.a fellow, 20-year-old Alabi Ojugbele and 18-year-old Obe Lekan were arrested at Orita area of Ilaro.

He said, “The suspects were arrested during the joint routine patrol carried out by men of Ilaro area command and Ilaro divisional headquarters. The suspects, who were on a Bajaj motorcycle with a defaced number plate jumped down from the motorcycle when they sighted the policemen and ran to different directions. They were hotly chased by the policemen and were all arrested.

“A search was conducted on them and one locally made pistol, four live cartridges and assorted criminal charms were recovered from them.

“On interrogation, Wasiri informed the police that he was an ex -convict, and that he still has a pending case of unlawful possession of a firearm in a magistrates’ court. The suspects all confessed that they were going for a robbery operation before they were arrested by the policemen”

Oyeyemi noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

Unknown persons have allegedly gang-raped and slaughtered a 26-year-old house wife, Ummi Garba in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

A resident told DAILY POST that the incident happened on Wednesday night at Warwadi quarters in Hadejia town.

He said the horrendous incident occurred when the unknown criminals took advantage of her husband’s absence, sneaked into the house, raped and butchered her.

Police spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident.

The Lagos State Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of one Li Lei Lei to two years imprisonment over mutilation of the Nigerian currency.

The Chinese national was convicted by Justice I. Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Tuesday.

He was arraigned on a four-count charge which bothers on tampering of the Nigerian currency note, an offence punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment) Act.

One of the count reads: “That you, Li Lei Lei, about the 17th day of May, 2022, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, tampered with One Thousand Naira (N1,000) Note, with serial number 947882 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment) Act, Cap C4, Vol.1, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010.”

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said that two drug traffickers have excreted a total of 165 wraps of cocaine following their arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, (NAIA), Abuja.

The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Babafemi who named the suspects as Elvis Iro, 53 and Uwaezuoke Christian, 42 said that they were arrested by operatives of the NDLEA.

He said that the suspects excreted the drugs while under observation in the Agency’s custody.

According to him, the 53-year-old man, Iro a father of four children hails from Abiriba, Ohafia local government area of Abia state.

“He was arrested on Saturday, March 19, upon his arrival onboard Ethiopian Airline flight from Addis-Ababa for ingesting 65 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.376kg.

“During the preliminary interview, he claimed he’s an interior decorator but had to go into drug trafficking because he needed money to start a coffee business.

“He also said he had to venture into the business to take care of his family and stock his newly acquired shop with curtain materials/accessories in Lagos.
“He said he would have been paid One Thousand ($1,000) U.S. dollars on the successful delivery of the drug in Abuja, Babafemi said.

The NDLEA spokesperson said Christian on the same flight, was also arrested on arrival for ingesting 100 pellets of cocaine with a total weight of 2.243kg.

Babafemi said that the suspect, who hails from Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra state, claimed to be a businessman dealing in baby’s wear before venturing into drug trafficking.

“During the preliminary interview, he said he traveled to Addis Ababa on Thursday, March 17 to buy the drug for Ten Thousand ($10,000) U.S. dollars and returned on Saturday 19th March when he was arrested.

“He said he sold his land in his village and took loans from friends to be able to raise money to buy the drug.

“He claimed he had to go into drugs to raise money for his business after being duped of Fifteen Thousand ($15,000) U.S. dollars by his friend who lives in China, ” Babafemi said.

Babafemi said that the Chairman, NDLEA, retired Brig. Gen.- Buba Marwa, commended the officers and men of NAIA for their diligence and vigilance. (NAN)

Some audit documents from the Auditor-General of the Federation have revealed that the Federal Ministry of Justice, under the supervision of the Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, approved N35million for officials to attend a virtual conference in 2019.
The document which was signed by the country’s Auditor-General, Aghughu Adolphus, disclosed that the money was raised in 12 vouchers ahead of the said conference.
One of the vouchers with No. Cap/014/19 dated 24/4/19 amounted to N30million was raised as a cash advance to an undisclosed officer of the Ministry of Justice.

He said that the retirement papers of the money revealed the conference was a virtual meeting, even in the 2019 financial year.

Adolphus noted that the remaining amount of the N35million was raised to cover air tickets, boot camp registration, servicing of monthly meetings, workshop fees, and conferences.

He noted that the officers that attended the programme were mainly from South-South states of the country, while other participants were from different agencies.

The Auditor-General noted further that receipts for retirement from hotels were altered at the date columns such as the Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo for N13million, Ogbolosing Transport Company Nig. Ltd. for car hiring amounting to N160,000 with no destinations and MC Print Ventures for N60,000.

All of these, the Auditor-General said, raised doubts as to the genuineness of the retirement particulars.

Another sum of N11.9million was paid to 184 officers from the South-South states as transportation subsidy.

An additional N8.3million was paid to them as accommodation subsidy.

The Auditor-General said the payments “contravened extant rules on DTAs of public officers in the civil service, and the above payments were made as if all the officers are on the same grade levels to collect the same amounts in terms of distance and DTAs.”

The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Justice Ministry we’re directed to furnish reasons for payment of allowances for conference that was held virtually and payment to officers of another agencies.

They were also directed to account for the sum of N35.7million and transferred from capital vote to finance overhead expenditure.
