Report just emanating from DAILY TRUST has it that the first Military Governor of Kwara state, Brigadier General David Bamigboye has reportedly died in Lagos on Friday.

A family source revealed that the past military leader died at the age of 78 during a brief illness, adding that the burial date would be announced later.

Brigadier General Femi David Lasisi Bamigboye was the first Military Governor of Kwara State from May 1967 to July 1975, after it had been divided from the old Northern Region during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon.

David Bamigboye is an Igbomina man from Omu Aran, Irepodun local government area.

Born 7 December 1940, he was succeeded by late Ibrahim Taiwo, preceded by Hassan Katsina.

His younger brother is Theophilus Bamigboye, another military ruler turned politician.

In 1968 he created the Kwara State Ministry of Education, with a department to handle Scholarship/Bursary matters.

In 1971 he announced a decision to establish the Kwara State Polytechnic, which came into existence in 1972.

In December 1972 he opened the new premises of Ola-Olu Hospital with accommodation for 35 beds.

In 1977, some properties he owned in Ilorin were seized, not to be returned until 26 years later in May 2003.

Latest report coming from Daily Trust has confirmed that a road accident involving three vehicles on Monday evening left one dead with 17 others injured along Ilisan – Ijebu-Ode expressway in Ogun state.

It was gathered that the road accident involved an Iveco truck marked FST 710 XQ, a Mazda bus with registration number, AGL 724 XQ and an unmarked vehicle.

The Mazda bus was said to have loaded passengers from Kuto motorpark in Abeokuta going to Ijebu-Ode when the accident occurred at a valley between Old Ilisan Road and Babcock University junction on Salami/Ijebu-Ode expressway.

The spokesman of the Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident, blamed it on excessive speeding on part of Mazda bus driver.

He said the victim’s corpse has been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, while the injured are receiving medical treatment at the emergency unit of the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that until her appointment, Ahmed was the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning.

Reports reaching NAN say that the minister is studying her new office and reading the handover note.

It would be recalled that Buhari appointed Ahmed on Friday to oversee the ministry of finance after the resignation of Kemi Adeosun who resigned following the outcome of an investigation into allegation made in an online medium of her Certificate of Exemption from National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).

The certificate was later discovered not to be genuine.

The Osun State Government yesterday alleged a plan by some unnamed people to harass President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to Osogbo on Tuesday.

The allegation was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Adelani Baderinwa.

Buhari is expected to visit Osogbo Tuesday for the mega rally of the All Progressives Congress Governorship campaign.

The commissioner stated: “The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a grand plan by some unscrupulous elements in the state that are planning to harass President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to Osogbo on Tuesday, 18th September 2018 for the Final Mega Rally of the All Progressives Congress Governorship campaign.”

“We want to bring this to the attention of the good people and security agencies. Security agencies in the state are hereby alerted on the evil plan of these unscrupulous elements.

“We urge the security agencies to forestall any act that could lead to breakdown of law and order in the state during and after the visit of the president.”

The presidential ambition of the Senate President Bukola Saraki received a major boost on Sunday as youths in Ilorin, Kwara state capital staged a one-million-man march in support of his aspiration.

The mass rally was led by Olarewaju Oba.

The Youths, who defied the scorching sun chanted various slogans, signifying their support Saraki’s presidential ambition.

They went through major streets in the state capital and ended at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

The organiser of the rally, Olabrewaju Oba said the youths in the state embarked on the rally in support of Saraki’s ambition in view of his contribution to the passage of ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill’.

He expressed optimism that Saraki will further contribute to the development of youths and nation when he becomes Nigeria’s President.

“The rally was a testimony that youths in the North Central and Kwara are in full support of presidential ambition of the Senate President,” he said.

Oba advised Nigerian youth to always utilise available opportunities to be self employed instead of looking for ways of getting rich quick or engaging in drug and violence.

The governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose has declared President Muhammadu Buhari a rejected president who has failed the Nigerian masses.

The Governor made this declaration in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi

The Statement reads:

“Buhari says he is seeking re-election to protect Nigerians? Tell him Nigerians need no spurious ‘protection’ from him. Nigerians from all walks of life have rejected this man and dismissed the many propaganda of Buhari’s APC government as lies from the pit of hell.

“Buhari and APC have only used the power they hold in trust for the people to suppress, oppress, intimidate, victimise, and destroy our people.

“Buhari says what he is expected to do; that is, to protect us, but which is actually not what he is doing. We are calling on him to protect us from killers and murderers but Buhari has failed to do that in four years. He has instead defended them again and again. What magic will he now perform if re-elected into office?”

Fayose further bewailed the persistent and cruel destruction brought upon Nigerians by Buhari/APC.
“Do we talk of his human rights abuses or the daily killing of innocent but hapless and helpless Nigerians under his watch, which have surpassed any in peace-time Nigeria?

“The country itself is drifting as a result of Buhari’s mindless tribalism and nepotism, which have polarised Nigerians like never before.

“The Nigerian economy, which was the largest in Africa and one of the fastest-growing in the world, is now in a shambles due to Buhari/APC’s pig-headed policies and pussy-footing when prompt and appropriate decisions were needed to pilot the ship of state.

“In free and fair elections, there is no way Buhari/APC can return to power. And talking about free and fair elections, a legacy handed down to Buhari/APC has been shamelessly ruined by them as our elections are no longer free and fair.

“Today under Buhari/APC, joblessness, hopelessness, depression, and despondency envelop the nation. Oppression, repression, suppression, and untold suffering have become the order of the day.

“It is political rascality and unbridled partisanship carried too far when Mr. President repeatedly declines to sign the Electoral Bill into law in an election in which he intends to be a participant. The fate of a whole nation, the efforts of our heroes past, and the progress of our renascent democracy thus hang in the balance on the altar of ego-tripping and cold-blooded calculations to despotically cling to power.

“And should he be forthright enough to commission an independent and objective survey of the current level of his goodwill, he will just go back home and rest.

Rescue services with sniffer dogs are searching the beach for possible victims.

Lynette Bridges, 58, from Hordon-on-the Hill in Essex, said her tour boat had just pulled up to the popular Shipwreck Beach when an enormous sheet of stone crashed into the sea, capsizing boats and flooding the crowded beach.

She said:

We started to hear this almighty cracking sound and the first lot came down quickly followed by the second lot.

The noise and the sound and the amount of rock that came down was unbelievable.

Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency ( ADSEMA) said flood had killed 10 persons and displaced scores of others, following the recent heavy rainfall recorded in the state.

Dr Muhammed Suleiman, the Executive Secretary of the agency, made the disclosure in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Yola.

Suleiman said that hundreds of domestic animals, including cattle, were also lost to the flood.

He said that the deaths recorded were particularly from Yola South, Guyuk, Lamurde and Song Local Government Areas of the state.

” Flooding is becoming a serious challenge for us in Adamawa and the situation is indeed alarming.

” We lost 10 people and hundreds of people have been displaced. Domestic animals in large numbers were equally lost to the deadly flood.

” Also, hectares of farmlands especially in nine local government areas located at the bank of River Benue have been completely submerged,” Suleiman said.

He said the flood was also posing serious challenge to farming activities in the state, adding that it could be a threat to food security in the state.

Suleiman said that more than half of the state population was currently under threat of impending flood and urged residents to be on the alert.

12 states are said to be prone to flood this year, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency | NIMET.
