Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu has reacted after his appearance at a worship place in Jerusalem.

He spoke with newsmen in Umuahia, after the news went viral on Friday. He said;

“I can boldly confirm to you that the person in the video is my brother, Kanu. He was praying in the video that we saw.

“We are happy that he is still alive and we will try to establish communication with him,” Emmanuel said.

He said that the news was received with wild jubilation in their family and Isiama Afaraukwu community in general.

“Everybody in my family and the entire community is celebrating and thanking God since we received the news,”

He said that the Deputy Director of the organisation, Uche Ejiofor, also confirmed the online video report, when the family spoke with him on cell phone.

Afaraukwu community had declared Kanu and his parents missing in the aftermath of the Sept. 14, 2017 alleged invasion of their country home by members of the “Operation Pyton Dance II.”

Leaders of the three component villages of Afaraukwuad also claimed that the whereabouts of Kanu’s father, Eze Israel Kanu, remained unknown.

They claimed that Kanu’s father, who was the traditional ruler of Isiama Afaraukwu in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia, got missing after the alleged attack on his palace.

A policeman has been reported dead with another seriously wounded in a fatal auto crash along Airport road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, DAILY POST can report.

At the time of filing this report, the injured policeman has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

DAILY POST learnt that the policeman from Ugborikoko Police Divisional Headquarters on routine stop-and-search at about 9pm on Thursday flagged down a “Yahoo boy” and his driver.

Rather than stop and clarify himself to the police, the “Yahoo boy” ordered his driver to zoom off.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Obasanjo had in a meeting held with Atiku and some PDP leaders endorsed his presidential ambition.

He declared that Atiku will defeat the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

According to him, he believes that Atiku has ‘re-discovered and re-positioned himself’ and is now good enough to enjoy his support in the next election.

Obasanjo said, “Let me start by congratulating President-to-be, Atiku Abubakar, for his success at the recent PDP Primary and I took note of his gracious remarks in his acceptance speech that it all started here.”

However, Buhari in a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Thursday described the meeting as a ‘well rehearsed theatre’, adding that both leaders will fail in 2019.

“In the first place, we dare to say that a pompous statement from the former President advising Nigerians on a vote against President Buhari is the best recommendation that can come at this time.

President Buhari is proud of his record because his achievements are verifiable, while that of the PDP is manifested by the devastating social and economic impact of large scale corruption during their governance.

“The President will not relent in the war against corruption because the ordinary people are the ultimate victims if we surrender to corruption and let its perpetrators go unpunished.

“Abandoning the war against corruption is not an option. President Buhari is in this battle against graft because he cannot allow a few, rapacious, and selfish class of the elite to divert the resources meant for the well-being of the ordinary people to their private pockets.

Nigerians trust President Buhari in this effort because they are convinced he is not in government for personal financial benefits, or for an ego trip.

“It is just eleven years ago that the former President and Vice President in their ugly fight for power accused each other of corruption. Nigerians are yet to forget all that.”

No fewer than eleven people on Wednesday in Abuja narrowly escaped with various degrees of burns from a gas explosion that occurred at Rosy Restaurant Area 11.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victims, who were immediately rushed to the Asokoro General Hospital, were severely burnt by the inferno.

A pregnant woman, who simply identified herself as Ajayi who works at the restaurant, said that they were all going about their normal businesses when the gas suddenly exploded.


Ajayi, who is in her first trimester, said that she needed to go for scanning to ascertain the condition of her baby.

NAN reports that the explosion affected her face, legs and hands.

She was, however, attended to by the hospital management to know if she would be transferred to where she would be given a better treatment.

Rachael Awu, another attendant at the restaurant and one of the victims of the explosion, said she was attending to her duty when the explosion rocked the restaurant

“I was serving customers and I went to pack meal, as I looked back I just heard the explosion.

“The fire started from the back of the restaurant where one of the cylinders was stationed. I was facing outside and when I tried to look back, I saw fire from the explosion.

“One of the gas cylinders was stationed outside the restaurant in the open space, and there is another gas inside where we used to put meat.”

She said that the gas cylinder outside was the one that aided the fire which ignited the gas cylinder inside the restaurant.

Another victim, who simply identified himself as Promise, said that the explosion was sudden, adding that he was attending to customers when he heard a loud noise.

NAN reports that Promise suffered some degrees of injuries on his two hands and a partial burn on his face.

“I went to carry sachet water when the gas exploded; as I turned back the fire was already burning my hands,” he added.

Rose Kenu, a worker at the restaurant whose face was affected by the explosion, said what happened was beyond explanation.

“I was in the restaurant when the gas exploded; we were cooking inside the restaurant because that is where the kitchen is located.”

Dr. Aminu Mile, the Acting Managing Director, Health and Human Services Secretary (HHSS), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) while on a visit to the victim, said the circumstances surrounding the explosion would be unravelled.

He said that the HHSS was already doing his own part to help victims of the explosion, adding that everything would be done to help the victims.

Dr Nnabuchi Chidi, Acting managing Director, Asokoro Hospital said that the hospital would refer some of the victims to the National Hospital.

He said that 11 of them were brought to the hospital and the hospital would do everything to ensure they are stabilised.

An 11-year-old student of Government Science Secondary School, Mayne Avenue in Calabar South LGA of Cross River State, Victor Charles has been swept away by torrential rain in Calabar.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the victim was swept into a flooded water channel at Mayne Avenue by Atamunu/Atakpa in Calabar.

According to an eyewitness, who gave his name as Anthony Akpan, the deceased was in Junior Secondary School 2 (JSS2) class.

“The incident occurred during the heavy downpour at about 2: 00pm when heavy rain swept the deceased into the big gutter at Mayne Avenue by Atakpa Street and his body has remained missing,” he said.

He stated that the current of the flood was too heavy when Charles and some of his colleagues were coming back from school.

“The tragedy happened just by my place here, the water that comes from the big gutter is quite heavy and the boys were just standing by my workshop and all of a sudden the victim fell into the small gutter in front of my workshop before the water carried him into the big channel at Atakpa.

“The big channel usually overflows anytime the rain is heavy due to the amount of debris people pour into it and it was unfortunate that it happened again. This is not the first time someone is drowning in that place.

“The place needs to be worked on, the sand inside that gutter need to be evacuated when you look at the road the water from the big channel has caused terrible erosion in that place something needs to be done now,” he said.

When DAILY POST correspondent visited the school later in the afternoon, teachers and students were all in a sober mood, as they lamented that they could not believe that little Victor was gone.

One of his classmates, Blessed Ekpo said Victor was a like-able person because of his social and friendly lifestyle, “We all like him, because he is a very smart and friendly person.

“We didn’t know what happened to him, that he fell into the big gutter and drowned. We will miss him, because we will never see him again.”

The father of the deceased, who did not want his name in print, disclosed that his son Victor was yet to be found.

“Me and some of my brothers have been searching the big gutter for his body since the early hours of today but we have not seen his corpse even as we speak.

“I have another search team at the evacuation point of the channel near CRUTECH and adjourning community but we have not made any success yet because the rain started again this evening.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to members of the public that anyone who finds him should please contact the school so that he can be buried properly because I cannot rest till I find my boy,” the bereaved father said.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the elders after the two-hour meeting, Yinka Odumakin said Afenifere would announce the candidate to be adopted soon.

He, however, stressed that the group would back any presidential candidate that had demonstrated the readiness to restructure the country.

Atiku has been at the forefront of agitation for restructuring in Nigeria.
Odumakin, who was silent on whether Obasanjo and Afenifere leaders were on the same page on the candidate to be adopted in 2019, said: “2019 race is going to be very exciting. Like the man of God said, it’s going to be eagle versus eagle.

“But the most important thing for us is the restructuring of Nigeria. Clearly, you can know Afenifere will always stand with candidate that stands for Nigeria to be restructured. This is because without restructuring, we are going nowhere.

“You have heard someone saying the 2014 report has been kept in the archives, and another person spreading it out saying Nigeria can be restructured and how to do it clearly. So, the choice is clear. There are no ifs and buts, we know where to go. We are going to make a pronouncement very soon. But the pendulum is swinging, but we will know where it will swing to.”

Odumakin noted that the meeting was to reciprocate Obasanjo’s visit to a leader of group, Adebanjo, few months ago in Lagos.

He said: “Few months ago, former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo came to Lagos to visit Baba Ayo Adebanjo with crop of Yoruba leadership. Today, we are here to pay him a return visits and to appreciate him for the visit to Baba Adebanjo. And we are trying to further the friendship so that there will be harmony in Yorubaland. This will allow our people to know that leaders across divides are coming together to discuss and arrive at a position.”

The group, however, said that it was not a political party, but would not endorse any political party or candidate whose mandate would not include the restructuring of Nigeria.

It said that the apex Igbo cultural group would only seek for and vote government that had policies and programmes that would better not only the lives of Nigerians, but the Ndigbo in particular.
The group called on the public to disregard “the vituperations from fictitious Ohanaeze youths backing the PDP and demanding for the position of vice president from the South East in the 2019 general elections.”

It alleged that the said youths were using the name of Ohanaeze youths for dubious endorsements ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“We did not have any meeting where we discussed on who should be given ticket or not.

“We ask the public to be weary of rumour mongers and dubious elements whose work is to use the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths to dupe, disorientate and endorse unsuspecting Nigerians.

“No meeting was held to discuss on the party vice presidential slot. These elements who parade themselves hide under the media to propagate lies against Igbo youths.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths will only vote a candidate who will guarantee Igbo’s welfare and restructure Nigeria and on the basis of personal conviction.

DKMNGR reports that the hoodlums stormed the Ethiope-East Local Government Council, venue of Ethiope-East Constituency election during accreditation.

They blocked the gate while shooting sporadically and beating up the electoral officer who was to conduct the PDP primary election.

A serious fight, however, ensued between the hoodlums and some youths leading to an attack on the policemen and their van. A rifle was snatched from a policeman in the process.

After over 24 hours of voting by about 3, 000 accredited delegates from the 20 local government areas of Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje yesterday re-enacted the 2014 feat by emerging as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2019 election.

Agbaje polled 1,100 votes to defeat his opponent, Deji Doherty, who had 742 votes.

Agbaje was also the candidate of the party in the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state and a recent aspirant for the post of national chairman of the party. He will face Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC and other candidates in the election proper. The primary which was held under tight security at the Yard 158 Events Centre in Oregun, Ikeja started Wednesday.

The panel chairman declared Agbaje winner, saying the outcome was reflective of the will of the people.

Agbaje’s opponent in a display of sportsmanship, congratulated him, saying he fought a good fight to emerge victorious.
Agbaje thanked his opponent and solicited his support to take over governance of the state in 2019, saying, “We are looking at the larger picture. The conduct of the primary is a lesson for other parties. This is a mandate to build on the success of 2015 election.”

He said it was high time the state was freed from the shackles of the ruling hegemony in the state.

This led to a brawl as ,embers of Cardi’s crew, meanwhile, hurled chairs and bottles, leaving the sisters with injuries.

The siblings, whose real names are 21, and Sarah Wattley, 23, went to cops and now are jobless as a result, their lawyer said.

Lagos State Deputy Governor Idiat Adebule yesterday declared that she was standing by the decision of the party on the candidature of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the standard bearer for 2019 governorship election.

Dr. Adebule told reporters at Ward A and D in Ojo Local Council Development Area where she participated in the primary that “the party has chosen a man and it is that man that I will support and follow.”

She added: ‘’ I have no doubt that anybody that emerge today as the candidate of the party will have my support, I have no doubt as exhibited by my people today that they are standing with the party’s position on this primary and with that position I stand,” Adebule said.

The deputy governor commended party members and the electoral body for making the exercise free, fair and violence-free.

She assured that she would stand by the outcome of the primary and follow the dictate of the party, adding that the supremacy of the party is very important in any political decision.

‘’I stand and I choose to stay with my party at this time, my party has spoken and I have no doubt to state that on the position of the party I stand, It is a very clear election as you can see, people are voting in line with the dictates of the party. We have voted for the person who the leaders of the party have chosen. It is an overwhelming experience as you can see it and we will continue to support the party and abide by its rules,” she said.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu has broken his silence after he was declared the winner of Tuesday’s Lagos governorship primary conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sanwo-Olu was announced winner of the Lagos governorship primaries, against the wishes of the National Working Committee (NWC).

APC chairman in Lagos, Tunji Balogun, announced that incumbent, Akinwunmi Ambode polled 72,901 votes, while Sanwo-Olu got 970,851 votes.

In a statement signed by the Director General, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Campaign Organisation (BOSCO), Tayo Ayinde, Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to all who voted for him.

“We hereby hereby unreservedly express our gratitude to our faithful members for the loyalty, commitments and determination to our great party by participating in the direct gubernatorial primary election in Lagos State on the 2nd of October 2018.

“In the same vein, we also like to appreciate the overwhelming moral supports received from non members of our great party during the exercise.

“Our sincere appreciation also goes to President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and all the leaders of our great party for holding true tenet of democracy.

The chairman of the party in the state, Tunji Balogun made the declaration at the state headquarters of the party in Ogba, Ikeja, on Tuesday night.

Balogun said, ”We were preparing for the election on the 1st of October before the cancellation was announced. The same thing was done again today but we were in the queue for most part of the day and I have observed that the elections have been free fair and transparent.

“It was direct primary, truly direct. Human beings were counted, not phones, not ballot papers. It would have been very painful to disenfranchise 1.5 million Lagosians who are members of APC who took part in today’s primary.

“I commend and salute them for their doggedness and forthrightness. The results have started come in and we waited till we got the last result.

It was gathered that Imo youths from Amaike Community, went off on a rampage as they alleged that supporters of governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law and anointed aspirant for Imo 2019 gubernatorial election were imposing the candidate on them.

Three branded campaign vehicles for Uche Nwosu Campaign Organisation at Amaike Primary School in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State, were burnt in the violence that erupted.

Ahead of All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary in Lagos State, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, yesterday, endorsed Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the party’s ticket for the 2019 elections.

Owie, who was a Senator under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and now ADP national leader, also berated the National Assembly for allowing President Buhari to remain in power till now.

The National Leader of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, said that President Buhari has committed a lot of impeachable offences.

Owie made the claim when he entertained questions from journalists on national issues as Nigeria celebrates its 58 years of independence.

He said, “Under normal circumstances, if the National Assembly was ready, by now, Buhari would have been impeached for irresponsibility and disruption of the system.

“He has committed a lot of impeachable offences and that same man will sit down with his own party and think he still wants to govern. The truth is what is not of God cannot succeed.

“Nigeria belongs to God and God will ensure that He cleans the country and those who are resisting, God will take them away.

“The truth is that if what Buhari is sowing is of God, he will reap it; if it is not of God, he will reap it.

” A responsible Nigerian cannot say that he is now higher than the law.

“After that statement, I realised that Buhari was back to 1983 when he was jailing former governors for 300 years and at the same time, he was allowing an Emir to come into the country with bags of millions of dollars; himself and the late Idiagbon decreed that people of certain age should not go for hajj and that same evening, their underage children went to Saudi Arabia.”
