On Sunday, November 1, cultists unleashed terror in Ebonyi state, shooting at different locations. As a result of clashes between rival cult groups, three people were shot dead, while five others were injured. Those who were killed in the attacks include a beer parlour owner, Amaechi Ude, Sunday Onwe of Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi state, and a staff of Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, whose name could not be immediately ascertained. Premium Times reports that a 25-year-old Ude was murdered in his beer parlour at Isiuke Lane, off Norom Street Abakaliki, while Onwe was shot dead at a drinking joint called Yori Yori, located close to Ebonyi State School of Health Technology. The third victim was reportedly attacked at the Abakaliki Township Stadium, where he went to play football. According to sources familiar with the development, the incidents happened simultaneously at different locations. http://www.thelivefeeds.com/?p=22728 Speaking with journalists, a witness said that Ude was sitting in his bar around 7pm when two gunmen on a motor bike shot him. “The incident forced customers who were already having their good time in the bar to flee, while the victim was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead,” he said. On the same night, the gunmen invaded the Yori Yori joint, where Onwe was at a birthday party with his friends. Witnesses said that the cultists shot the man on his chest and he died on the spot. Confirming Onwe’s killing, Clement Odaah, the chairman of Ohaukwu local government area, said that he had reported the matter to the police. “The police are already investigating the matter and some persons have been arrested in connection to the killing. More persons will be arrested, and I am assuring the people that all the perpetrators will be brought to book,” he said. |

President Muhammadu Buhari Sunday in New York said that the prosecution of those who misappropriated the NNPC’s revenue under past administrations will soon commence. He was speaking at a meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping. President Buhari thanked President Xi Jinping for China’s ongoing help in curbing crude oil theft from Nigeria. The President applauded China’s interception of shiploads of crude oil stolen from Nigeria, and which were to be sold and proceeds paid into private accounts. “We know your stand on corruption, and we are grateful. Your continued cooperation in curbing oil theft from Nigeria will be appreciated,” President Buhari told the Chinese leader. Buhari restated his determination to fully sanitize Nigeria’s oil industry and make it totally free of corruption and shady deals. He said that a necessary first step in this direction had already been taken with the appointment of a new management for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its subsequent reorganisation . He also assured President Xi Jinping that under its new leadership, the Nigerian military had been re-trained and re-equipped, and was now making steady gains against Boko Haram. President Jinping told President Buhari that China, which is already involved in Nigeria in diverse areas like railway, airports, agriculture, and in the Mambilla Hydro-power project, among others, will increase its investment in the country’s agricultural sector to support the achievement of domestic food security. He also promised further Chinese investment in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, and more support for human capital development in the country. http://www.thelivefeeds.com/?p=17542 |
