Embakasi is the most populous sub-county in Nairobi with nearly 1 million people, according to the 2019 National Population and Housing Census.

Figures from the census, which were released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Monday, reveal that Nairobis total population stands at 4, 397,073.

Embakasi is followed by Kasarani with a population of 780,656; Njiru is the third most densely populated sub-county with 626,482 people.

The only reason Kibra is classified as a Slum is due to poor planning, lack of housing regulations and no drainage. Kibera itself is a low income residential area sitting on government land. It's well connected to the grid and it's residents actually rent those houses, Pay power bills & feed themselves. Keep in mind as of 2020 75% of Kenyans are connected to the national grid meaning even those in rural areas have a more stable power supply than an average Nigerian. Kibra is poor but not miserable.
