There are many things to say thank you for, even some subtle ones. Some things are just awkward to say the least. I am the kind that is very grateful in every little gesture I enjoy from someone else.

Sometimes when someone says thanks for calling, I will respond with 'thanks for answering' because I know fully well the person could have ignored it.

Really, there lots of things to be thankful for. But not for accepting my friend request, nor for accepting to date me. Heck, there are many other ways to express your happiness or whatever feeling one has after getting a YES from a girl, not by saying thank you.
