Politics / FG Set To Open Website & Reactivate Its Youtube Account For Quick Access Of Info by docky22: 7:30am On May 16, 2017
The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to open a website and reactivate its YouTube account, so as to provide Nigerians quick and easy access to authentic information on its activities.

This was made known by the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, on Monday.

Ogunlesi stated that the YouTube account would be reactivated very soon, while the website would be ready by the end of June.

“We have a YouTube account; it has not been active but one of the things we are working on over the next few weeks is to reactivate the page and upload our videos.

“Meanwhile, our videos go to twitter and Facebook but after reactivation, we are going to make sure all those videos go on to our YouTube.

“On the website, it will be a one stop shop, where people can have free access to authentic information about Federal Government’s pronouncements, activities, policies and programmes.

“However, we have since set up official Federal Government social media platforms on twitter, Facebook and Nairaland; we have an official Facebook account, facebook.com/asovilla.

“We put up information regularly and speedily on those platforms; that is our job and we will continue to do more.

“We have Ministry of Health, the Centre for Disease Control, the EFCC, NDDC and others doing a lot of fantastic jobs and giving out authentic information on their social media platforms”, he said.

This is going to be a welcome development as fake news has been circulating on social media and in turn damaging the integrity of the Federal Government.
Phones / New Nokia 3310 Launched In India @rs 3,310 | Features & Specifications (photo) by docky22: 7:17am On May 16, 2017
HMD Global has launched the 2017 version of the ‘legendary’ Nokia 3310 in India. The feature phone, as expected comes at a low price of Rs 3,310 (best buy price).

The device will be available across top mobile stores starting May 18 in Yellow, Grey, Blue and Red colour variants. HMD Global, the company licensed to manufacture Nokia branded smartphones, introduced the feature phone along with the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and the Nokia 3 during the MWC 2017 conference back in February-end.

The all-new Nokia 3310 runs Series 30+ operating system and features a 2.4-inch QVGA (240×320 pixels) display. The dual-SIM handset sports a 2MP camera along with 16MB inbuilt storage. The storage can however, be expanded using a microSD card up to 32GB.

The Nokia 3310 (2017) feature phone is said to come with a 1200mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 22 hours talk time and one-month standby time. On the connectivity front, the Nokia 3310 supports two micro SIM cards, Bluetooth v3.0, micro USB and a 3.5mm headphone connector. Weighing 79.6 grams, the feature phone measures only 115.6×51.0x12.8mm.

The original Nokia 3310 of the past came preloaded with ‘Snake,’ a simple but incredibly addictive game that remains popular even to this day. In fact, it’s one of the defining features of the phone. So it’s hardly a wonder that the revamped 3310 also comes preloaded with Snake. Even better, the new game has an upgraded, colourful design that’s promised to offer the same addictive game play as its predecessor did.

“Talk all day on a single charge, send texts, take pictures and enjoy a pocket jukebox with a built-in FM Radio and MP3 player. Our reinvention of this classic design is sure to make you smile. It’s got everything you remember, but with a modern twist.

So whether you’re after a feature phone that offers amazing battery life in a head turning design or a companion phone, the Nokia 3310 won’t let you down,” said Ajey Mehta, VP-India, HMD Global.

Crime / Man Steals His Boss’ N24.4m, Threatens Him With Whistle-blowing (photos) by docky22: 11:35am On May 13, 2017
Alfred Andrew, 40, has been arrested for stealing from his boss, a businessman and a resident of Gwarimpa Housing Estate, FCt Abuja, Benedict Emmanuel.

On May 6, businessman and resident of Gwarimpa Housing Estate, FCT, Abuja, Benedict Emmanuel, noticed that a stack of foreign currency he kept in his house had disappeared.

But little did he know that his good-natured security guard, 40-year-old Alfred Andrew, a Bauchi State indigene, had suddenly become a millionaire, while keeping his home safe.
At 40, Andrew, who studied Mass Communication and Information Technology, went from joblessness to enrolling in an evangelical school, through which he became a pastor.

Yet, he said he needed more out of life.

Andrew said he moved to Plateau State to look for a job until the poor condition of the job forced him to move to Abuja where he took up a security guard job on a N25,000 salary in 2014.

But three years down the line, Andrew thought fate had finally smiled upon him when bundles of foreign currency fell on him while he was rifling through his boss’ belongings one day when the latter was out of the house.

He said, “That day, I was sweeping when I saw a key on the floor. I tried it on the padlock on my boss’ apartment and it opened. I went inside the house and was searching through his belongings when something fell on me from the top of his wardrobe.

“I then realised it was foreign currency. I climbed on a chair to see what was on the top of the wardrobe and noticed that there were currencies from different countries. They were so much. That was the first time I would see so much dollars. I have only seen such large amount in movies.

“I was tempted to take the money. Before, I had been hearing of whistle-blowers but I was not sure who to contact. I didn’t know who to report to. I didn’t have the number of the whistle-blowers (sic). I was scared. I didn’t know who to trust in Nigeria. I might tell someone and the person may turn things around against me.”

Andrew said he started to pick out of the bundles of currencies gradually whenever his boss was out of the house.

Then, he took the step of counting how many wrapped bundles of currency were on the wardrobe.

“I confirmed from someone the amount in the bundles. He said it was N130m after it was converted. I didn’t touch that one because it was sealed. I was only taking from those bundles,” he said.

According to him, for over a month after he started stealing out of the currencies, his boss did not notice.

He said he noticed that each time his boss travelled out, he came back with more foreign currencies.

He said he only checked whenever his boss was away from home to see if the money had increased or decreased. But every time he went into the room, he was always tempted to take part of it.

“If you just pulled a small amount, by the time you count it, there might be more than thirty dollar notes,” he said.

At a point, Andrew went beyond just pulling little amounts of cash from the bundles and took a few million-naira worth.

He said, “I took some amount and converted it to N24.4m and put it in my account.

When Andrew’s boss, Emmanuel, first noticed that a huge part of his cash was gone, he became suspicious of his security guard only when he discovered that the latter was using an iPhone 7 cell phone even though his salary was just N25,000.

When Andrew’s room was searched, expensive designer clothes were also found there.

He was apprehended when Emmanuel informed the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team.

At the police station, he confessed and N24 million was found in his account.

He also took the police to an apartment that he rented in town where expensive phones were recovered from his girlfriend.

Andrew said, “I bought clothes and mobile phones. I was not even able to wear any of the clothes because I bought them recently. Part of the money I had recently changed to naira was in my bag when I was searched.

“Last Friday when my boss discovered the cash missing, he ordered that nobody should go out of the compound and started searching everybody. His sister who is an official with the Department of State Services came also and checked my phone and bags.

“They took my passport, ATM cards and everything I had before handing me over to SARS. I told my oga I would implicate him by reporting him to EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission). He said he had been good to me, but I told him his wife had not given me food over the last three years. It is part of the reasons why I did what I did.

“Even when I was employed, I was told my salary would be increased every four months. I was told I would also be fed but that promise was not kept. My boss said the money was not his.”

Andrew said he knew that what he did was wrong but that anytime he asked his boss for money, he always told him he had no money even though he knew about the foreign currencies in the house.

The police have said the suspect would be charged to court soon.

Jobs/Vacancies / FG Set To Appoint FRSC Into ‘FISH’ Housing Scheme by docky22: 7:20pm On May 12, 2017
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF) Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita has assured the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) that it will be co-opted into the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) programme initiated by the Federal Government to provide affordable housing for the federal civil servants before they retire from service.

She gave the assurance on Friday in her office in Abuja when the management of the FRSC led by the Corps Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi visited her.

She said that FISH programme being a sub-set of the Federal Government mass-housing scheme provides an impetus for the uplift of the welfare of federal workers of which the FRSC officials can benefit from.

Mrs. Oyo-Ita said the objective of the FISH programme is to provide cost effective and affordable housing for various categories of workers, through multi-sectoral supports and cooperation which includes group land acquisition from governments, provision of infrastructure and financial supports through strategic partnership with private developers and other stakeholders.

Speaking earlier, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, said the purpose of the visit was to solicit the support of the HoCSF in the area of provision of affordable housing to officers and men of the Corps under the FISH programme.

He said one of the greatest challenges any public servant will face in his life is retiring from service without having a house of his own.

Celebrities / I Don’t Mean To Dump My Husband, He Only Needs Help – Mercy Aigbe by docky22: 3:48pm On May 11, 2017
Nollywood Actress, Mercy Aigbe who is currently in a legal tussle with her husband, Lanre Gentry over domestic violence has said that she still wants to build a home with her husband, adding that they just need some help.

However, the actress in an interview with Broadway Africa disclosed that she came out in public because she needed to seek help for her husband, adding that she does not have the plan to dump him.

According to her, she had stayed to endure all the beating because she did not want to disappoint people that see her as a role model and also for her children.

“My husband was in detention for over seven months and I never left him or go anywhere. Why would I want to go now? He says all this is make-up. He is not showing any form of remorse and still sponsoring lies against me.

“It’s not like I wanted to walk away but I just feel like we need help. I spoke to my husband’s brother about it. I told him I was going to pack out for some time while my husband seeks therapy.

“I just wanted to feel safe, that is why I moved my things out. This last beating was brutal. I actually thought I was going to die. I’m still coughing and sneezing blood even after three weeks.

“I stayed because of my children and because a lot of people look up to me. I was a role model of some sort and I really wanted to keep it together. I just wanted a home,” she said.

When asked how long the beating had continued, she said for as far back as 2013.

“I never for once came out to say that my husband did not beat me. The video people were referring to happened in 2013 when there were rumours of such and I did a video recording alongside my husband to debunk the claim. At that time I had to do it to protect his image and my marriage. I had to do a live video at that time.

“He beats me consistently. I stayed because I loved him and because every time he beats me, he begs and gets family and friends to beg me. He promised regularly to change but he never did. When my husband gets angry, he gets physical, not only to me but to anyone.

“He has done that with my househelp who reported him to the Police years ago. ”

Mercy had accused her husband of physically assaulting her on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Health / World’s Heaviest Man Juan Pedro Receives Gastric Bypass In Mexico (Photos) by docky22: 12:35pm On May 10, 2017
The world’s heaviest man, who at one point weighed almost 600 kilograms (1,300 pounds), has undergone successful gastric bypass surgery, his doctors in Mexico said. The procedure on Juan Pedro Franco is intended to reduce his weight by half, and is expected to be followed up with another operation, his surgeon Jose Castaneda said Tuesday.

“The surgery was quite successful. But now we have to wait and see how he responds to the (systemic) change. Let’s hope everything goes well,” Castaneda said.

The procedure has left the patient “quite delicate,” and he is being closely monitored, Castaneda said.

Franco, who at his peak tipped the scales at 595 kg, was told that in order to be eligible for surgery, he had to lose a large amount of his initial bulk. He also had to get his diabetes and blood pressure under control.

The operation was given the green light when doctors said they were pleased with his steady progress and motivation, which marked a change for Franco, who had spent years in bed.

When the second procedure is done, likely in November, Franco’s stomach size will be reduced and his intestines modified.

Most importantly, the patient has to progress on the psychological and nutritional fronts. “If that does not happen, the entire thing will fail,” Castaneda warned.

Mexico’s Manuel Uribe, who in 2007 held the record for being the world’s heaviest man at 597 kg, died last year.

Egyptian Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, who was believed to be the world’s heaviest woman, recently underwent gastric bypass surgery in India. Doctors said her treatment, which also included a modified diet, helped her lose 323 kg in three months, to stand at around 177 kg.
