CrimeFour Ex-ministers, Ex-gov Named In N3.1b EFCC Probe by Dollar101(op): 7:20am On Mar 15, 2016
Four former ministers and one ex-governor have been mentioned in a new tranche of investigations currently being carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

They are alleged to have shared N3.1 billion in a bazaar that preceded the 2015 general elections. But it is not yet clear if the money is in any way connected with ongoing investigations into the arms procurement fraud.

A top source who confided in The Guardian last night stated that the EFCC stumbled on evidence that showed how prominent politicians allegedly shared N3.145 billion in the build-up to the last presidential elections.

He further informed that the money was paid by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) into the account of the Ministry of External Affairs Library account, from where it was moved into another account .

One of the former ministers was alleged to have got the lion’s share to the tune of N840 million, paid in three tranches into his bank.

The first tranche of payment involving N350 million hit the account on February 19, 2015. Another N250milion was also paid into the account on February19, 2015 while yet another N240million was allegedly credited to the account a month later, on March 19, 2015.

An election support group is said to have been the next biggest beneficiary by allegedly receiving N320million.

Another former minister allegedly received N100 million through a company where he is chairman. The fund was credited into the company’s bank account on March 25, 2014”.

Both the former governor and ex-minister got N350 million in two tranches. The first tranche of N150 million was paid into their joint account on January 13, 2015. The second tranche of N200 million was credited into their account .

The fourth former minister took her own share of the booty through her bank account in Kaduna. Another N36.9 million was credited to her. Coming at the rear is another suspect who pocketed N100 million.

Another source who spoke with The Guardian from within the anti-graft agency noted that detectives were left to decipher the motives for the bazaar.

“But as things stand, the fact that most of the payments were made in the weeks preceding the last presidential elections leaves very little to the imagination.

“Yet one knotty question that confronts the investigators is the figure behind … the account where the fund was warehoused before being wired to sundry beneficiaries. The shadowy figure could help unravel the mystery shrouding the payments, once the veil is lifted,” he said.

PoliticsMixed Fortunes As Electricity Generation Hits 4,068MW by Dollar101(op): 6:59am On Mar 15, 2016
Fashola urges Discos to provide metres

Electricity consumers in the country may not be smiling yet as generation yesterday hit 4,068 mega watts still assessed as abysmally low.

Though consumers were expected to be experiencing some respite from the recent days of darkness the transmission line that tripped from Egbin Power Station yesterday may have further dampened rising hopes.

This is coming as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that about 21 power plants were presently operation across the country, while some units are facing setback due to transmission, water management and rainfall challenges.

Meanwhile, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has charged electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to ensure the provision of meters and end the frustration of customers waiting for the never coming meters.
At the third monthly meeting with operators of the power sector, yesterday at the Ugwuaji Transmission Station, Enugu Fashola said : “The Federal Government would no longer condone a situation where people pay for meters and fail to access them within a reasonable time-frame.”

The Public Relation Officer of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Lagos Region, Mrs Celestina Osin, who confirmed the faults on the Egbin bound transmission line yesterday said the blackout experienced in Lekki, Ajah axis since Sunday, March 13th was a result of a detachment on the sky wire of the Egbin-Ajah 330KV Transmission Line three which feeds the area.

She said the maintenance engineers are already at work to rectify the fault as quickly as possible, with the aim of getting customers back to the system.

The Head of Corporate Communications, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Godwin Idemudia, said the line trip had made it impossible for customers being serviced from Ajah, Lekki and Alagbon transmission injection sub-stations to receive power supply.

Areas listed to have been affected by the outage include Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Victoria Island Lekki, Ajah, Ibeju and their environs.

Idemudia then appealed to customers to please bear with the company adding that supply to all affected areas would be restored as soon as the fault is cleared.

The Eko Disco spokesman also assured that the company’s distribution facilities are in good shape for effective evacuation of power to customers as soon as the line fault between generation and transmission stations is fixed.

The national statistics on generation profile showed that unutilised generation capacity from the power stations hit 3,231.6MW as at Sunday 13th, while the nation was losing 1827.5MW to gas constraints; 409.6MW lost to transmission line constraints; 85MW lost to water management issues; and 909.5MW was lost to high frequency occasioned by heavy rainfall.

The minister, who chaired the meeting raised hopes that the present challenges militating against the supply of electricity in the country would be surmounted only if Nigerians understood how the system operates.

At the end of the meeting, he told journalists they “addressed the problems of gas, financial stability, volatility of foreign exchange in sectors as to how that affects the ability of the power plants, the GenCos, the DisCos to implement their technical service agreement with their foreign partners. It also addressed the difficulty of pricing local gas consumption in dollars instead of naira.”

On the problem of CAPMI metering system, he said: “We resolved that people cannot take money from consumers without supplying what was paid for. From the reports given to us by the DisCos, many of them claimed that they have largely supplied the meters that people paid in advance for.

“I made it clear to them that a situation where people pay for meters and they are not supplied, undermines trust. We have given them marching orders to wind down all the outstanding credit meters program that they have collected money from people and haven’t supplied.”

Education5 Things About Port Hartcourt You Should Know by Dollar101(op): 12:04pm On Mar 08, 2016
Also known as the Garden city because of its numerous avenues and ornaments, Port harcourt is the 3rd most developed metropolis in Nigeria after Lagos and Abuja. The city dubbed  Nigeria’s oil capital is arguably the oil hub of Africa. Sometimes called ‘P.H’, lies along the Bonny River and is located in the Niger Delta. According to the 2006 census, the Port Harcourt urban area has a population of 1,382,592. Where as the greater Port Harcourt City, as it is officially known, spans eight local government areas that include Port Harcourt, Okrika, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Oyigbo, Ogu/Bolo, Tai, and Eleme. That said about the city, INFORMATION NIGERIA brings you 5 interesting things about Port harcourt…

1. Port Harcourt was once part of the Republic of Biafra which seceded from Nigeria in 1967 because the area that became Port Harcourt in 1912 was before that part of the farmlands of the Diobu village group of the Ikwerre, an Igbo sub-group

2. Port Harcourt was founded in 1912 by Frederick Lugard, governor of both the Northern Nigeria Protectorate and the Southern Nigeria Protectorate and was named after the then British Secretary of state for the colonies, Sir Lewis Viscount Harcourt in August 1913.

3. Its purpose was to export the coal that geologist Albert Ernest Kitson had discovered in Enugu in 1909. The colonial government caused the people of Diobu to cede their land, and in 1912 the building of a port-town was started.

4. During the First World War, Port Harcourt was used as a point for military operations against the Central Powers in German Kamerun. After the discovery of crude oil in Oloibiri in 1956, Port Harcourt exported the first shipload from Nigeria in 1958.

5. Aside from being the oil capital, Port Harcourt is also known for the vibrant late-night activities and entertainment scene. There are several public houses, lounges, clubs, dance bars and restaurants spread out around the city.

SportsNigerians & United Kindom Unite To Blast Yaya Toure For Calling Africa Shameful by Dollar101(op): 12:26pm On Jan 09, 2016
Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, has expressed his anger after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was named the CAF African Footballer of the Year, ahead of him.

The Ivorian had won the prize for four consecutive years until Thursday, when Aubameyang took it home, thanks to votes by coaches and technical directors of African national teams.

“I’m very, very disappointed,” Toure said.

“I think this is what brings shame to Africa. Because to behave in this way, it is indecent!

“But what can we do? We Africans, we do not show that Africa is important to us. We focus more outside our own continent. That is pathetic!

“It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don’t think African achievements are important.”

The 32-year-old also claimed that Aubameyang won because of his excellent displays in Bundesliga, where he plays for Borussia Dortmund and not his showing at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I give an example: Lionel Messi has won all the trophies but [if] Cristiano Ronaldo has the award [the 2015 FIFA Ballon d’Or], what would you say? It would be unfair!

“FIFA, even with all the stories of corruption, would not do that! I believe that today, with what happened, CAF will go there too.” Toure implied he might be quitting any continental event, saying he would look after himself and forget Africa.

“Yaya will look after Yaya and Yaya will allow Africa be.

“As I often say, do not care too much for Africa because Africa will be the first to let you down.”

Still, he congratulated Aubameyang, saying: “You were brilliant.”

PoliticsReasons Why We Can’t Release Dasuki And Kanu — Buhari by Dollar101(op): 7:57am On Dec 31, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has given reasons why his government has refused to release a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and the coordinator of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, despite several court directives.

Mr. Dasuki, who is facing trial for allegedly diverting and sharing over $2.2 billion dollars meant for arms procurement for the anti-Boko Haram war, to politicians and cronies, was on Wednesday re-arrested by the State Security Service after he had been granted bail by three different courts.

Mr. Kanu, who is spearheading the quest for an independent nation of Biafra, was earlier granted bail by a Federal high Court sitting in Abuja, but he was also re-arrested by the SSS, which slammed a fresh charge of treasonable felony against him.

Speaking during his first presidential media chat at the presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. Buhari said the two accused persons cannot be allowed to enjoy any form of freedom due to the enormity of their offenses.

“”If you see the atrocities these people committed against this country, we can’t allow them to jump bail,” he said.

Mr. Buhari said Mr. Dasuki was simply sharing government’s money the way he liked.

“They would just say to Central Bank give so and so, 40 billion naira just like that; 40 billion,” he said.

He also said it would be bad to allow Mr. Dasuki “travel to London to see his doctor” arguing, “What of the over two million people displaced, most of them orphans whose fathers have been killed, what type of government do you want to run? We cannot allow that”.

Mr. Buhari also said despite having two international passports, one for Britain and the other for Nigeria, Mr. Kanu “did not use any of them to come into the country”.

He also said the IPOB leader smuggled in equipment with which he came in to preach hate messages.

PoliticsNairalanders Please Help Me Win This Argument About Jesus The Son Of God by Dollar101(op): 11:21am On Dec 23, 2015
It all started when I wished a friends happy Christmas in advance and she said she doesn't celebrate Christmas, I was curious to know why because I know she's a christian, so I asked why and she said Jesus wasn't conceived on the 25 of Dec and Christians don't celebrate Christmas.

This led to an inflexible, rigid and strong argument, we all know jesus wasn't given birth to on the 25 of Dec but it is a day that has been set aside to celebrate his birthday.

The reason am here for you opinion is that she had facts and I mean real good facts... firstly Christians never celebrated birthdays as write in the bible, Pagans did..The only two persons that celebrated their birthdays were pharoah and herod and bad things happened the day they were celebrated, pharaoh had his cupbearer beheaded n herod had john d baptist beheaded too... further more she sent this to me...

Once upon a time lived a man in a certain community, all thru his childhood and adultlife in dat community he never made noise, he was very popular yet he never had any certificate attached to him neither did he ever throw a party for himself nor did his frends. When dis man relocated, the people in dat community and beyond decided to choose a day to celebrate him...during the period of celebration, they wuld get drunk, do all sort of bad things in the name of celebrating this man...the date chosen for celebratin him even falls on the date his enemy is also celebrated.... If you were this man, how wuld you feel?
Such is the story behind Xmas.
was Jesus born on the 25th of December? NO! Did he celebrate his Birthday while on earth? NO! December 25th was set aside for Pagan celebration of the Sun God "Saturnalia". Why then Do "Christians celebrate Jesus" on this same day?
Take a time to analyze these and if you need further research check out this link.

PoliticsAbubakar Shekau Says Buhari Is A Lier by Dollar101(op): 8:31am On Dec 07, 2015
Leader of Islamist sect group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau has dismissed the Army’s claim of massive gains in the fight to annihilate the terror group in Nigeria’s Northeast. He also mocked President Muhammadu Buhari calling him a liar.

In a 25-minute recording in Hausa and Arabic released via social media, Shekau said: “They (the military) lied that they have confiscated our arms, that we have been chased out of our territories, that we are in disarray.

“We are alive, I am alive, this is my voice, more audible than it was before. This is Shekau.”

Speaking further, the Boko Haram leader said: “Buhari is a liar and has deceived you. The army spokesman is also lying. He and his footsoldiers always run helter-skelter whenever we come face to face with them….

“Buhari, you once claimed that you will crush us in three months. How can you crush us?”

Although there was no indication of where or when the recording was done, reports suggest it must have have been in recent days.
