Crime › We’ve Secured Conviction Of 1000 Fraudulent Nigerians —EFCC by Dollar101(op): 2:21am On Aug 04, 2015 |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said that it has secured the conviction of over 1000 people in both public and private sectors in the country for various corrupt practices . The anti-graft commission also disclosed that hundreds of graft cases were pending in various courts across the country while billions of naira had been recovered from culprits. The Executive Chairman of the commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, stated this on Monday in Akure, the Ondo State capital during a two-day workshop on budget monitoring and tracking organised for community-based organisations, non-governmental organisations, faith-based organisations, media and local government staff. Represented by the Director of Public Affairs Department of the Commission, Mr. Osita Nwajah, the chairman called for judicial reform to fast-track the prosecution of offenders of corruption . He said the commission came up with the idea under its prevention mandate to ensure citizen participation at all levels of budget processes for better service delivery. He said, “Participation in budget process is a constitutional right. Therefore, your insistence to participate in it does not violate any law; rather, it strengthens governance and leads to accelerated development and reduction in corrupt practices at all levels of government.” http://www.punchng.com/news/weve-secured-conviction-of-1000-fraudulent-nigerians-efcc/ |

The name, Diezani K. Alison-Madueke, has been making waves in the media since 2013, but in the wrong direction, especially in the social media. Anyone who does not review an issue before buying into it, would take the criminalisation of the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, to be true. One does not read in-between lines these days on the name, Diezani K. Alison- Madueke, without seeing a mention of this stolen billion dollars or that laundered billion naira associated to it. Her issue had kept some of us in the media thinking. The irony of it was that you would also read that she left for the London or USA or Germany to plead with the international community to beseech on her behalf, so that Major General Muhammadu Buhari, would not imprison her. The recent nuisance making the rounds on her name was that she was begging to refund a certain billion dollars to Buhari, in order to allow her be. Then, one is flummoxed to ask, why the criminalisation of Diezani K. Alison-Madueke who until her tenure as Minister of Petroleum Resources, never plunged the country into fuel scarcity, especially during the season of yuletide. This scintillating beauty called Diezani K. Alison-Madueke (Nee Abiye-Agama) born 6 December 1960, had always distanced herself from such devious accusing fingers on her. One is not sure if it is only in Nigeria that this woman is a ‘criminal’ because as the first female President of OPEC, elected at the 166th OPEC Ordinary meeting in Vienna on 27 November 2014 and sundry, this international body is not accusing Diezani K. Alison- Madueke of pilfering into its coffers as the president. As once Nigeria’s minister of transportation on 26 July 2007 and was later moved to Mines and Steel Development in 2008, until her appointment as Minister of Petroleum Resources on April 2010, Diezani K. Alison-Madueke was the perfect minister of all. It is on quote that Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state. What might be working this far against Alison-Madueke was propaganda. But in Nigeria, one is forced to say that tribal ulcer and cancer are the worst. There is yet to be democratic civilisation in Nigeria. As if he was the Auditor General of the Federation, the first person to cast the dye against Alison-Madueke, was the loquacious former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Lamido Sanusi. Sanusi was saying that there was missing $20 billion oil money, without giving recourse to how the Nigerian state had explored crude oil from the South-East and South- South zones, since 1956 and the north benefitting from the proceeds since 1967 it bounced on superintending Nigerian affairs, without any commensurable development in these zones. Rather, the Northern accomplice, West, started deafening our ears through its propaganda media, of how the north had been impoverished during Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency, as if Northerners have not ruled Nigeria for nearly 40yrs, and the outcome of their rule is the poverty we can see around the country till date. Sanusi did not care to tell Nigerians and the international community of how his fellow Northerners have grown fat with the oil proceeds in the Niger Delta. It’s obvious that 90% of oil blocs in the Niger Delta, are controlled by northerners. Read full story here: http://www.today.ng/opinion/before-diezani-goes-to-prison/ |

Politics › Psychiatric Hospital: Bishop Petitions Buhari by Dollar101(op): 3:48pm On Jul 25, 2015 |
A former member of the House of Representatives and ordained clergyman, Bishop Ezekiel Oise Orhevba has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to save the Federal Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu – Benin from what he termed: “its present irretrievably Monumental rot.” Bishop Orhevba in the petition to President Buhari made available to Nation on Saturday, unless the President intervenes in the affairs of the more than 50 years old Hospital, chances are that “it will experience a total ruin and abandonment.” The Bishop whose petition was further supported by a 22- paragraph affidavit to drive home his points, noted that there has been no peace in the hospital for over three years now. “There has been steady retrogression of the hospital. The hospital is in total darkness,” he stated. He further stated: “You can see the gardeners/landscape attendants using cutlasses to mow the grass instead of the former practice of using mechanical lawn mowers.” ” Food for patients is now cooked with firewood instead of gas, thereby leading to massive environment pollution in a Psychiatric Medical facility, where convalescing patients are not supposed to inhale noxious gas. “The hospital that has about 250 beds for patients hardly see up to 50 patients now due to the unpleasant and unfriendly condition of the hospital.” While alleging that there is a “terrorist gang” involved in transcendental sleaze in the hospital, Bishop Orhevba claimed that since October 2014, the Medical Director, Dr. S. O. Olotu had sacked about eight senior members of staff of the hospital who had never had any query over framed up charges. He alleged that the purported sack of the officers concerned was not approved by either the minister or the permanent secretary. Bishop Orhevba called on the President to help end the alleged reign of corruption and impunity going on at the Federal Psychiatric Hospital Benin so that the avowed manifesto of change for which President Buhari is globally acclaimed will not be aborted. Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, Mr. Efe Stawart and the Medical Director, Dr. S.O. Olotu, to comment on the issues raised in the petition were unsuccessful. http://thenationonlineng.net/psychiatric-hospital-bishop-petitions-buhari/ |

barcanista: I would not have responded but for the respect I have for you.
If you critically look at Buhari statement, he was trying to draw parallels between himself and Obama. Firstly, there is a process to appoint a cabinet minister(or secretary). 1. The President nominates 2. The Senate Screens and approves 3. The President inaugurate the nominee.
A serious President is judged when he first makes nomination. Obama nominated ALL his cabinet Secretaries within one month of election and one month to his inauguration. All his cabinet but just two were cleared and inaugurated between January 20, 2009 and early February (Depending on the Senate). The two cabinet positions was due to the fact that the first choice nominees pulled out mid-way to clearance. Even the two cabinet nominees were nominated within a month that the original nominees pulled out
A Buhari that has neither shortlisted nor nominated a single cabinet. Obama did his own part, he can't do that of the Senate. I don't like overflogging issue but I will tell you that appointment of Cabinet is a process that starts with "nomination". This Obama did for ALL positions as the President-elect. I have no objection to your criticism of Buhari But The thread was on PMB's article which is not on nominations but on Obama Having a full cabinet in place. |

RentedReality: I pride myself by being the most politically neutral person on Nairaland. You can trust that my opinions here are unbiased and will always be objective.
We recently achieved a peaceful transition and a very first where a ruling party suddenly found itself in opposition and the other way round for the opposing party. The likely fallout is propaganda, lies, smear campaigns and idle rants from people with displaced interests (PDI).
And there lies the problem.
All I read is criticism and almost non of which is constructive. Threads and counter-threads. Which brings me to wonder if people are actually paid for this as I can't imagine using my precious time to power the research needed to counter an opposing logic (My g/friend also demands attention).
This brings me back to the intent of this thread. I have been following with interest the arguments between pro-Buharists and pro-Jonathans and I will say the most interesting to date has been "Barcanista vs Musiwax". I read facts and saw how good education and a sound mind can turn one into a productive member of the society.
Atlas, I was to be let down.
I stand with Barcanista on this one: the President was in error for that comment drawing parallels between his government and Obamas. It was false as proven and marks his excellency down by a point in my opinion. The truth is rot or no rot, you shake the faith of your voters when your decision making appears prolonged, weak and indecisive.
As for Musiwax, no disrespect but please stop joining words with people above your intellectual capacity.
Reason? below is your counter thread.

And below is one of your sources:
http://www.theonion.com/article/ray-lahood-resigns-following-mysterious-disappeara-31065
"Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood announced his resignation from the Obama Administration earlier this morning following his alleged involvement in the recent disappearance of U.S. Route 13. “Given his ongoing role in the investigation regarding last week’s sudden disappearance of this road, Mr. LaHood believes it is best that he step down from his position as Transport Secretary,”
How can a road disappear?
And how can you quote from a comic news parody website in an argument with adults? Everyone knows The Onion news runs humorous commentaries on daily issues.
Please just stop your analysis as you might end up dumbing down your audience with such misleading write-ups and references. I believe there are better NL analysts that can support your position better, refer to them.
Thanks. LOL, RENTEDREALITY PLEASE BE REAL, STOP BEING PARTISAN TELL BARCANISTA THAT I/WE ARE WAITING FOR A REPLY TO THE MESSAGE BELOW, WE ARE BECOMING VERY IMPATIENT. musiwax:

[i]From the onset, the discussion was on the correctness of the Buhari article which wasn't about Nominations, but rather about having a full cabinet. You asserted that he lied when he didn't, you should as a matter of honour apologise for this.

EUROBOMBER: I have carefully analysed recent events and taken time to study a lot of what happened before during and after the Biafran war.
The truth is that if the Igbos succeed in pulling out of Nigeria, the Niger Delta might not completely be part of the new country but they will definitely also seek to be on their own and manage their resources. This would effectively leave only the SW and the North in Nigeria. If it turns out this way, the Yorubas most likely would also gently ask to be left to be on their own. At the end of it all, we go our separate ways.
Let me quickly add here that Igbo land is much bigger than the Nigerian politically defined SE. Should Nigeria break today, all Igbo-speaking parts of the SS will be part of our new country. The Igbos will force no tribe to be part of us, we will accept those that want to stay with us and those that don't want to be with us will be free to stand on their own or join any other groups they so wish. I am saying this loud and clear so that some people will not come here and start shouting, "We are not part of your Biafra, leave us alone, leave our oil alone."
The Igbos can do very well without oil. There are many countries in the world without oil and are doing very fine. Germany is the most powerful economy in Europe today and they don't have a cup of crude oil there. Israel moved into a desert and converted it into a country very comfortable for habitation. The list is endless. Recent trends have also shown that oil is becoming worthless by the day. What really matters for a nation to be great is the quality of human resources available.
For the parts of the SS that would choose to be part of the new country, we can accept to run a regional system of government between the core Igbo states and parts of the Niger Delta. We can even accept a solution such that both regions would take 80% of revenue accrued within the regions and contribute 20% to the center. This the Niger Delta can never get in this present Nigeria.
For those people from the SS always shouting leave our oyel, I want to tell you that the Northerners are already drinking your oil and have even become drunk on it. You are shouting at Igbos to leave your oyel whereas Northerners are taking the same oil from under your nose and you can do nothing. How myopic and sentimental can some people be?
On a closing note, I believe in one Nigeria but one where there is justice, fairness & equity. For me, Buhari should hand over to an Igbo man if Igbos are truly part of Nigeria. We are part of the big three and too big to be ignored. Who is ignoring you, leave sentiments and face democracy |

engineerboat: That is what we are still saying, Obama nominate His cabinet December 2008, He was inaugurated January 20 2009. On that Same day large percentage of His Cabinet have been approved by the senate. which means By January 21 2009, Obama Administration start with His Secretaries running the Government. The Question is did Obama wait for 4 months before making Nomination. Now why comparing yours with Obama, when PMB had not even send any nomination to the senate for approval bearing in minds the time tis take for Senate Approval. the thread was about buhari's speech and not your opinion or perspective bro, the question is/was; how long did it take Obama to have his full cabinet, not NOMINATION sir |

engineerboat: Please take some time out and re-read you post once again, you will discover that what People are saying is that, in Obama first term He had made some larger percentage nomination of his ministries, submitted them for approval to the Senate, it now depend on when the Senate approve them. RIGHT But for APC to tell us that obama fill up his cabinets months after inauguration, its totally false.
For now no major NOMINATIONS have been made to the senate for approval,
Going by your assumption "diference between nomination and senate approval", if by now no nomination has been sent to the SENATE for approval, then sent nomination to senate for approval by SEPTEMBER, then we should be waiting till 2016 to have a single minister approved by the senate. We are waiting and watching.
http://www.senate.gov/reference/Obama_cabinet.htm Oga Goodmorning, The thread was not about NOMINATIONS, when nominated candidates was sent to the senate it took several months for verification, there is a huge difference between NOMINATE and APPOINTED, please take note of the context. |
