Sometimes the best business ideas happen entirely be accident, according Senator Bruce, the passion for the entertainment industry happened entirely by accident, which as led to the mammoth Silverbird group.

Break the mould
As the director of NTA at the time Senator Ben Bruce went against convention to air the Miss World Pageant during a live telecast instead of watch the popular evening news and Nigeria won the pageant.

The external environment can be hostile to your business

When you conquer poverty you become fulfilled
Senator Bruce says, as you grow older you need less and so once poverty is no longer an issue, the economy will be in a much better position.

14. Words can be powerful weapons

After a speech at a conference by Senator Bruce a young boy stood up and shouted lets kill all our leaders. It is important to watch what you say so that you do not incite somebody to do the wrong thing. That also goes in business.

15. Economics is the answer to all our problems

According to the senator, most of the problems we face as a nation has nothing to do with religion but more to do with the redistribution of wealth and once we have an equilibrium most of our problems will vanish

Except for last minute changes, President Muhammadu Buhari will declare open the South-East Economic and Security Summit (SEESS), scheduled to hold in Enugu on December 22.

Tony Usidamen, the media consultant to Enugu state government disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, adding that other eminent Nigerians would attend the event.

He said that the president’s desire to attend the summit was in demonstration of his interest in maintaining peace and fostering economic growth and development in the South-East and other regions.

Usidamen said that the summit was aimed at addressing the real development issues in the region as well as proffer lasting solutions to them.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will lead other eminent personalities and delegates to attend the maiden summit holding at the Enugu State Government House.”

“Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and all governors in the region as well as several eminent personalities and delegates will be in attendance to discuss issues of common interest”

He stated that such issues as security, agriculture, infrastructure, health, tourism, as well as financing the region’s economic programmes would be in the front burner during the event.

“The Chairman of SEESS Group, Prof. Barth Nnaji, has assured that the summit will be a meeting where specific problems are defined and measures to address them adopted,” Usidamen added.

The summit is an ‘invitation-only’ event, with delegates drawn from the various interest groups in the region.

A new study has shown the incredibly bad things a mobile phone can do to the male sperm with increased usage.

Fertility experts are warning men that: Using a mobile for as little as an hour a day is “cooking sperm” and lowering level significantly.
The new study shows that having a mobile phone close to the testicles – or within a foot or two of the body – can lower sperm levels so much that conceiving could be so difficult.
The findings have led to a leading British fertility expert to advise men to stop being addicted to mobile phone devices.
The study – by highly respected specialists – found that sperm levels of men who kept their phones in their pocket during the day were seriously affected in 47 per cent of cases compare to just 11 per cent in the general population.
Professor Martha Dirnfeld, of the Technion University in Haifa, said: “We analyzed the amount of active swimming sperm and the quality and found that it had been reduced.
“We think this is being caused by a heating of the sperm from the phone and by electromagnetic activity.”
The team monitored more than 100 men attending a fertility clinic for a year.

€They found that besides men keeping their phones close to their groin many spoke on the phone while it was charging and kept it only a few centimeters from their bed.
Even keeping the phone on a bedside table appears to raise lower sperm cell counts
The findings are in the journal Reproductive Bio Medicine and support a long-feared link between dropping fertility rates in men and the prevalent use of cellular phones.
The quality of sperm among men in Western countries is constantly decreasing and is considered crucial in 40 percent of the cases in which couples have difficulty conceiving a child.
Professor Gedis Grudzinskas, a fertility consult ant St George’s Hospital London and in Harley Street said: ” Men need to think about their well being and try to stop being addicted to their phones.
“If you wear a suit to work put the mobile in your chest pocket instead of close to your testes. It will reduce the risk of your sperm count dropping or dropping so much.
“And do you need to keep the phone right next to you on the bedside table. Some men keep their mobile in their shorts or pyjamas in bed. Is that really necessary?”
Professor Dirnfeld said: “I think this is a warning to men to change their habits to improve their chances of having children. Women generally don’t carry their mobiles on them so maybe a mobile phone won’t affect their fertility. That’s not something we have looked at.”
Professor Alan Pacey, a fertility research scientist at Sheffield University has scoffed at suggestions that mobile phones could be damaging male fertility and insists he will be carry on putting his mobile in his trouser pocket.
Professor Dirnfeld said: “Dr Pacey might not need to worry about his fertility, but for younger guys it is a worry. If you a trying for a baby and it doesn’t happen within a year you might want to think of whether it could be your mobile phone habit that is to blame.”

Gab Onah, Chairman, Cross River Carnival Commission, has said that the annual Calabar Carnival has created over 15,000 jobs since its inception in 2004.

Onah, who disclosed this to NAN in Calabar on Sunday, said the employment came from the various bands that performed in the annual street party.

“Over 15,000 persons have been employed through the annual Calabar carnival since its inception.

We create jobs through the different participating bands; various activities are undertaken by these bands which create economic opportunities for the people.

This has been successful because of the private sector participation which has also increased employment opportunities for the people of the state.

As we speak, 500 persons have been engaged as ushers to ensure orderliness during this year’s carnival. They are currently undergoing trainings,’’ he said.
According to him, the Imo Government had signified interest in partnering with the state to replicate Calabar carnival in Imo.

He attributed the success of the carnival to the nature of its content, adding that it originated from the people’s history.

“Our carnival is organic. It came as a history of the people. It is meant to change the lives of our people,” he said.

Onah said that over 21 countries including China, South Korea and Spain had indicated interest to participate in this year’s carnival.

The Nigerian Government has launched a new app called the Federal Government of Nigeria Information App (FGN IAPP). The app is designed to provide relevant and authentic real-time information from the Nigerian government to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as well as the rest of the world.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had this to say:

“The Federal government will not allow the media space to be dominated by those who are daily working to discredit the federal government and obfuscate its achievements.”

So, FGN is supposed to “send undiluted and factual information directly to Nigerians and bring about a paradigm shift in the way the government communicates with the citizens by ensuring that authentic and real-time information is delivered directly to them, irrespective of their location.”

The app’s interface looks like a mobile version of a WordPress site.

You have the menu option which includes so many categories.



Plus, I think the FG plans to monetize FGN because I could spot a Yudala ad in the newsfeed.

Based on similar projects in the past (Fashola’s website, to name a few), I am suspecting that the cost of developing FGN might run into millions of Naira, I might be wrong, though.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has paid players and officials of the Super Falcons their outstanding allowances after receiving the money from the Federal Government on Friday.

This is according to a statement by NFF’s spokesman, Ademola Olajire in Abuja.

The statement quoted NFF’s Head of Women’s Football, Ruth David as saying, “the bank accounts of the players and officials are being credited as we speak. They will all receive credit alerts of the monies due to them, as released by the government, before the end of the day.”

The payments were for the Super Falcons’ participation at the 10th Women Africa Cup of Nations finals, which the team won after defeating hosts Cameroon 1-0 in the final in Yaounde on 3rd December.

Olajire said the money released by the Federal Government included allowances due to players and officials of the Super Eagles for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Algeria, played in Uyo in November.

“A breakdown of the Super Falcons’ monies showed that each player got the sum of N5,494,500, less the sum of N600,000 that was earlier paid to each of the players at various times by the NFF.

The amount is at the rate of $17,900 (converted to Naira at the official rate of N305 to $1), plus the sum of N15,000 camp allowance and N20,000 transport allowance.

All the monies were converted at the official rate of N305 to $1.

Head Coach Florence Omagbemi got a total of N11,014,000 less the sum of N800,000 paid to her earlier.

Assistant coaches Ann Chiejine, Perpetua Nkwocha and Bala Mohammed, as well as the backroom staff were N8,274,250 richer. The equipment manager got a total of N4,114,625,” the statement said.

The players protested following the failure of the NFF to pay their outstanding allowances.

On Wednesday they took their protest to the National Assembly where they were addressed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who promised them that they would be paid in 48 hours.

A NAN correspondent who visited the Agura Hotel, where the players were lodged, discovered that they had left the hotel.

With 2016 coming to a close, now is the perfect time to reflect on this year’s collection of games. 2016 was mostly dominated by sequels and new additions to popular game series – such as Battlefield 1, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Civilization VI and Dishonored 2 – but there were also a number of well received originals like Firewatch, The Witness, and Overwatch.

Some of this year’s highly anticipated games were disappointing as well, such as No Man’s Sky and Mafia 3. A collection of other titles were plagued with launch issues: Dishonored 2 was completely unoptimized on PC, Watch Dogs 2 suffered from broken multiplayer functionality, and PES 2016 on PC looked like utter garbage.

Luckily there were still a number of great games to play this year, which brings me to the big question: what is your choice for game of the year?

My choice would be Battlefield 1, mostly because its multiplayer was surprisingly engaging and kept me hooked much longer than other recent multiplayer games. I also thoroughly enjoyed The Witcher 3’s second expansion, Blood and Wine, while Civilization VI was extremely addictive and a break from what I normally play.

The Lagos State Government on Friday said it could not commence the sale of its “Lake Rice” on December 15 as earlier planned to ensure that plots to hijack the project was averted.

Sanni Okanlawan, Special Adviser on Food Security to Governor Akinwumi Ambode, said that the rice will be on sale from next week

The government had planned to sell the rice at N13,000 per 50kg bag at the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development area headquarters from December 15.

Okanlawon said that the government was installing mechanisms for Lagosians to celebrate the best Yuletide without hiccups posed by money bags.

“We are working out the modalities to make sure that what the government intends to sell at N13,000 was not hijacked and sold to Lagosians at N15,000, that is what we do not want. From all indications, hopefully, by next week Lake Rice will be out, so, we want everything to be in place before it is out,’’ Okanlawan said.

The Lagos State government had on December 8 promised that it was ready to roll out Lake Rice on December 15 to Lagosians.

Okanlawon made the disclosure during the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry National Agriculture Stakeholders Summit.


“Lake Rice is the acronym of both Lagos and Kebbi States joint product which will be out to the public on Dec. 15 at a cost of N13,000 per 50kg bag as it is already subsidised by the government. To make it more available, the rice will be sold at the 57 LGA’s and LCDA’s for easy accessibility and to guard against unwanted persons diverting the product, the state has put in place a committee,” he had said.

Lagos State had in March signed an MoU with the Kebbi State Government to produce rice paddy to be milled and packaged in Lagos State.
