A bearded traveller was shocked to discover his not biological but identical twin on a Ryanair flight after he discovered the stranger sat in his seat. Neil Douglas was on a flight from Stansted to Shannon Airport, County Clare, on Thursday evening when he met Robert Stirling, from London. Speaking to MailOnline, Mr Douglas said: 'I asked him to move and when the guy looked up, I thought: "Holy s***, he looks like me. We had a big laugh about it – everyone had a laugh. We took a selfie and that was it. 'I later checked into my hotel in Galway to find my doppelganger checking into the same hotel ahead of me. Total weirdness.' Mr Stirling, a 35-year-old civil servant from Redbridge, added: 'I had actually swapped my seat on the plane so that a couple could sit together. The photograph which the two complete strangers took has already been shared nearly 2,000 times. It shows them looking strikingly similar due to their bushy ginger beards, smiles and hairstyles. They were even wearing similar black tops, later realised they were booked into the same Irish hotel and went for a drink. The ministerial screening of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees for his cabinet has come and gone, but the memories of the widely televised event will linger on for a while. The screening process which was characterised by drama, controversies, politicking, lobbying and protests gave Nigerians the opportunity to see first-hand how their various representatives are carrying out their duties in the upper chamber. 1. Senator Bukola Saraki (Kwara): The Senate president didn’t fail to contribute during the exercise which is commendable. Most of his questions were directed at the nominees the Senate gave special preference to (mostly former federal lawmakers) who even though they were asked to ‘bow and go’ were still subjected to questioning by the Senate president himself. Perharps, Saraki was aware that some Nigerians frowned at the ‘bow and go’ syndrome and made personal efforts to correct it. 2. Senator Ike Ekweremadu (Enugu): It is not for nothing that Ekweremadu is occupying the position of deputy Senate president for the third time in a row. His questions showed how experienced he is and how his long stay in the upper chamber has helped to make him a complete senator. 3, Senator George Akume (Benue): A two-term governor of the food basket of the nation, Benue, and a third-term senator, Akume has seen it all. And so when he asks questions, they are very deep and borne out of an experienced politician who has been in the executive and in the legislature. 4. Senator Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti): You can’t be a former deputy to Governor Ayo Fayose and not be smart. Olujimi is a woman that stands tall among her peers. The fact she is the only woman on the list says a lot about her personality. To cap it all, she is a first-term senator. The nominees she asked questions will no doubt remember her for unsettling them with her piercing questions. 5. Senator Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos): If there is any politician who disregards his political background when asking questions, then Ashafa is the one. His question to Ekiti state former governor, Kayode Fayemi, about his time in office as a chief executive, shows that Ashafa despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a well-groomed politician. 6. Senator Ali Ndume (Borno): When you are the Senate Leader, it shows that there is something extraordinary about you. Senator Ndume’s questions were very apt, direct, incisive and indeed filled with experience. The Borno lawmaker has no doubt justified his position in the red chamber. When the tunnel was traced, it was noticed that work was still ongoing as it is meant to lead directly into the banking hall. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his government would be willing to make financial payments to Boko Haram to secure the release of the abducted Chibok girls. Buhari, who made the comments on Al Jazeera’s UpFront programme, said that the exchange to be made would depend on the negotiations with the sect. “…It depends on the negotiations with the leadership of Boko Haram,” the president told Al-Jazeera's Mehdi Hasan. Buhari also said that his government would not hesitate to negotiate with the sect once it provides proof that the girls are alive. “They have to prove to us that they are alive, they are well, and then we can…negotiate with them. We said it and we meant it. If we are satisfied that the girls are alive,” he said. Once again, the screening of Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers state, has been deferred. The Senate failed to screen Amaechi today, October 14, due to the inability of the Simon Anyanwu-led committee on ethics and public petitions to submit its report on petitions against the former governor, Vanguard reports. Senator Anyanwu informed the Senate President, Bukola Saraki that his committee’s report was still not ready to be submitted to the floor of the Senate. “You will recall that the Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions and Privileges has been investigating Mr Rotimi Ameachi, a ministerial nominee from Rivers State. As I speak, the report is yet to be concluded,” he said. Saraki ruled that Amaechi’s name be delisted from the Order Paper, while asking the committee to ensure its report was ready by tomorrow for subsequent treatment. When former Lagos governor, Babatunde Fashola, took center stage at the ongoing screening of the ministerial nominees, the sound of a pin couldn’t be heard at the upper chamber of the National Assembly. With evident dexterity and a deep grasp of issues, Fashola answered every question asked of him and carefully side-stepped a few sensitive queries. The minister-in-waiting successfully impressed the Senators and the watching public with his answers. Here are 21 quotes by Fashola from the screening: 1. ‘Our Work in Lagos was a Team Effort, I won’t appropriate personal responsibility for the Good Work’. 2. ‘My attitude was to see criminals as my competitor and with competitions ,my desire was to win’. 3. ‘Security remains the primary but toughest job a leader can have; It was a competition’. 4. ‘As governor I felt responsible for every citizen that was robbed. Every citizen that was robbed, I had failed. That’s how I felt’. 5. ‘Before we increase taxes, we must optimize the capacity to get that which is in the place.’ 6. ‘Online Technology is a very versatile tool for tax collection… moving to it would be important’. 7. ‘Competition stimulates productivity. There is no state that is unable to carry out productive activity’. 8. ‘If we are afraid of abuse, start the state police. Not every state should start if it can’t be funded’. 9. ‘My Knowledge of Abuja is not as deep as my knowledge of Lagos. I have lived in Lagos all my life.’ 10. ‘I don’t know the last time a serious conviction was made for rape in any of our high courts’. 11. ‘I will walk away from the tendency to condemn the level of development of our Country’. 12. ‘It is our responsibility to continue to add value whenever we find ourselves in a privileged position’. 13. ‘The only training I have is that of a lawyer. I don’t fix contract prices, I don’t sign cheques, non of my commissioners signs cheques. We have a process that was followed.’ 14. ‘In my own right as a 52 years man, I am old, but we must continue to interface with and guide the youths’. 15. ‘Nobody has alleged that I have corruptly enriched myself. SOURCE: http://www.unitednaija.com/2015/10/ebola-hits-nigeria-again-as-10-are-quarantined-in-calabar/ One year after Nigeria got certified free of the highly-contagious Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), there are fears that the virus has resurfaced in the country. Already, 15 persons have been quarantined at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in Cross River state. Queeneth Kalu, chairperson of the hospital’s medical advisory committee, told reporters on Thursday that blood samples of those in quarantine had been sent to Edo state for analysis. Kalu said a patient of the hospital died with symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever. “On Wednesday, 7th October, 2015, we managed a patient who presented with symptoms mimicking viral hemorrhage (Ebola Virus) and have decided to take the necessary measures,” she said. “Due to the remote chance of it being contagious, we have sent the blood samples for testing and quarantined identified contacts. “The National Centre for Disease Control, the ministry of health, the state government and the Department of State Services, have all been informed. “Further information will be made available as soon as we receive the results of the samples sent for analysis.” Tope Richards, a resident of Calabar north, told media that only few persons in the town are aware of the situation. “We are trying to be very careful now. This kind of thing has never happened in this city,” she said. “I wouldn’t have been aware of this situation if not that I went to the teaching hospital yesterday. Even some people there are not aware. We are in the hands of God. I really don’t know what to say.” However, Sunday Omini, director of public health in the state ministry of health, said it was too early to reach a conclusion on a resurgence of the virus. “We are aware of the situation and we have got preliminary reports from the hospital, and we are all awaiting the result of the blood samples,” he told NAN. “We are on top of the situation, there is no cause for alarm but judging from the information I have received so far, I am 90 percent sure that it is not Ebola.” The development is coming at a time when the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced significant progress in the fight to stamp out EVD. Earlier on Thursday, Margaret Harris, WHO press officer, said for the first time since 2014, no new case of the virus had been recorded this week.

Senate committee plan to petition the ministerial list when it's presented on Tuesday SOURCE: http://www.unitednaija.com/2015/10/senate-committee-plan-to-petition-the-ministerial-list-when-its-presented-on-tuesday/ The Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who spoke with a Punch correspondent on Friday in Abuja said that the committee would send petitions to protest against President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees on Tuesday once the list is presented to them. He said as of Friday, no member of the public had formally submitted any petition against any of the ministerial nominees. Sen Anyanwu said “We have not been receiving petitions from members of the public obviously because the list of ministerial nominees has not been officially unveiled by the senate president. “I think the petitions will start coming in as from next Tuesday after Nigerians would have known the nominees.” Some members of Peoples Democratic Party-controlled states are also preparing to oppose the clearance of any All Progressives Congress member that would make the list from their states. Some aggrieved members of the APC in some states were also said to have threatened to write petitions against any nominee that is not confirmed by the state chapter of the party as a member. It was gathered that the Rivers State Government and the state chapter of the party had concluded plans to oppose a former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, if he was nominated. It was learnt that the state government might instruct senators from the state to oppose Amaechi’s nomination. But when contacted, the state government and the PDP said they would prefer to keep mum on the report that Amaechi’s name was on the ministerial list. The Media Assistant to the State Governor, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, said the state government would take a position after the senate must have read out the list on Tuesday. Nwakaudu explained that everything about the content of the ministerial list would be mere speculation until it is read out by the National Assembly. He said: “Let the list be read first; if the list comes out, we will formerly take a position,”. Similarly, the State PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, said the party would be thorough in its position on whether Amaechi’s name appeared on the list or not, but would have to wait until the Senate read out the list on Tuesday. “When the Senate reads out the list, we will react. We are always thorough when we take a position on an issue. They said it is the Senate that will disclose the content of the list and that will be on Tuesday. We are waiting for them to do that,” Nwanosike added. The Director of International Women Communication, Hajia Goroso Limota urged the senate to reject the list if it did not contain at least 35% of women.
