THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL MONDAY , MARCH 21, 2016 NO GREATER LOVE(1) READ: JOHN 15:8-13 MEMORISE: Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:14). The story is told of a mother hen who went far into a bush with her chicks to feed, but was caught unawares by the torrents of bushfire. The animal having lost all struggles to escape the flames, decided to save her chicks, dug up a little earth, gathered them there, using herself as their covering and eventually became roasted to death. This poorly and insufficiently typifies Christ's sacrifice, which our sins required, and desired by God. But the deliberate and sacrificial death matters to us, not that He was limited. Some have supposed that the discourse in John 15-16 was delivered in the room where the Lord's Supper was instituted, and that, as they had made use of wine, Jesus took occasion from that to say that He was the true vine, and that His blood was the real wine that was to give life to the soul. The discourse could be summed up this way:"This proof of my love for you, I shall give in a few hours; and the doctrine which I recommend to you I am just going to exemplify myself that there is no higher expression of love that could be given." That Jesus gave His life so we could live eternally with God is the ultimate proof of love. Believe and receive it today. The Gospel hymn renders: "Wonderful story of love; Tell it to me again; Wonderful story of love; Wake the immortal strain; Angels with rapture announce it; Shepherd with wonder receive it, Sinner, O won't you believe it? Wonderful story of love...." Have you accepted the incredible TRUTH? Have you experienced that love? If 'Yes', keep it. If 'No', see yourself as a sinner, see Jesus as your saviour, confess those sins, ask for forgiveness and cleansing, and accept the lordship of Jesus. Victory is yours from that junction when faith is established in your heart, and confession is made with your mouth. Experience it NOW! PRAYER POINTS: 1. O Lord, my heart I give to You totally; let it be Yours irretrievably. 2. O Lord, help me to show Your true love to everyone I come across in every way, in Jesus' name. 3. Ask that the Lord should help the Church in this land to show His true love to the world in all ways, not by empty declarations, but by daily practical demonstrations. EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 1 CHRONICLES 1-4 I see you end this week well and highly blessed. No power can stop you from attaining greatness from today in Jesus Christ name |
The Living Water Daily Devotional Guide Sunday, March 20, 2016 Enlisted For Mercy Read Romans 9:1-16 MEMORISE: For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." (Romans 9:15). Mercy and compassion are two operational words in the above text. Mercy is compassion, kindness or forgiveness shown especially to somebody a person has power over. Mercy is expressed when one is blessed, whereas, compassion is sympathy for the suffering of others, which often includes the desire to help. Mercy is one of the sovereign attitudes of God. Better still, it is the makeup of God. Mercy and compassion are functions of God's grace and love. The grace of God qualifies one for God's mercy. God's grace is demonstrated fully alone in Jesus Christ. No more, no less. That is exactly what the Bible is expressing in the text. Variables like colour, race, height, status, age and location are not strong determinants of whether someone would receive mercy or not. Nothing was yet known of Esau and Jacob when God revealed His preference for the younger Jacob. This is a function of mercy. Candidates of mercy are God's people whom He has predestined to be His, and whom have chosen Him as their Lord and King. Are you one of them, washed in the blood of the Lamb? Anyone who refuses the love of God through faith in Jesus Christ has not only delisted himself from receiving mercy, but equally invites condemnation on Himself. Finally, if you have found God's mercy, be merciful to others (Matt 5:7). PRAYER POINTS 1. Lord Jesus, have mercy on me; show me mercy so that my life will not remain the same again. 2. Merciful Lord, help me to show mercy to people around me. 3. Lord, let the Church be more merciful and compassionate towards the less privileged. EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 2KINGS 21-25 From today, in all sphere of your life, the mercy of the Lord will speak for and carry you, you will no longer partake in the suffering of the unbelievers in Jesus Christ name. |
THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Saturday, March 19, 2016 HONOUR YOUR MARRIAGE READ HEBREWS 13:4 MEMORISE: Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. (Hebrews 13:4) The trend in marriages these days is disturbing and discouraging. More people, unbelievers and believers alike, have less regard for this holy and honourable institution of God, treating it with levity and abject disdain. What is God's standard concerning marriage? God owns everything in heaven and on earth, including marriage; He is the institutor (Gen 2:18-25). Every owner/designer has specifications for the product, as well as directions for its use. Deviation from the norm is dangerous and injurious. The Bible, not the constitution of any nation or culture/tradition of any people, is marriage Owner's guide for those who care for the ideal biblical marriage. Also, marriage is a covenant supervised by God, hence its binding nature.... the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth,... the wife of your marriage covenant (Mal 2:14). It is sacred. The two parties involved become one unbreakable body, as in the Christ-Church union (Eph 5:21-33). This is a mystery. Marriage covenant breakers are in for serious trouble; God doesn't favour such, no matter who is involved. How honourable is your marriage? It will be to the extent that you accept God in Christ Jesus as its institutor and accredited Owner, and its indivisibility (Mal 2:13-16). As you honour God, love and honour (respect) your spouse. Your love for God should also be evident in how you honour marriage bed, not defiling it - distastefully avoiding pre-marital and extra-marital sexual relationships. Don't embark on what you will live to regret. Honour your marriage! PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, my marriage and home must honour You always. 2. Lord, help marriages that are undergoing trying times to sail through without wreckage. 3. Lord, assist every couple to acknowledge that You own the marriage institution, so that they can lock the door of their homes against Satan. EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 2 KINGS 11-15 God bless You |
THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Friday, March 18, 2016 BE DISCIPLINED READ HEBREWS 12:4-12 MEMORISE: No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it (Hebrews 12:11) 'War against indiscipline' was a popular slogan during a Military regime in Nigeria. Did the people really sustain the war? As a matter of fact, every individual must raise fierce war against every act of indiscipline, if success is to be achieved. Indiscipline should be abhorred. Apart from the fact that it tags the lawless, as regards both the traditional and constitutional laws of the land, it pitches one against the Holy God. To be indiscipline is to be too loose, unruly, insubordinate, disruptive and uncontrollable. People who are too loose usually lose out from the hall of the outstanding. That is, achieving excellence in any endeavour is far-fetched from he who lacks discipline. Such are simply like a city with broken down walls. Discipline is a close associate of diligence. It leads to honour, riches and wealth. Discipline is an essential key to lasting success. Discipline requires endurance, perseverance and forbearance (v.7). Discipline assisted Jesus, our Lord, to fulfil His God-given destiny. Discipline enthrones and elevates. Christians need self-discipline to tackle the menace of sin (v.4). Reuben and Amnon ruined their glorious destinies due to lack of discipline. They died unfulfilled. Absalom and Judas died untimely on account of impropriety. Discipline will assist a believer to be free from weights and distractions (v.1). God keeps us in shape and aligns us with His will through discipline. Discipline is a trainer. It is painful and unattractive at present, but on the long run, it is profitable and productive (v.11). Job vowed not to lustfully look at a virgin. Joseph refused to have carnal knowledge of his master's wife. Jesus refused the offer of the devil. Be disciplined. Learn to say no to all gifts and appearances of evil. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, deliver me from attitudes (manifestations of self) that can ruin me. 2. Lord, help me to be malleable, so that all You have in stock for me can come to pass. 3. Lord, save the believers and leaders of Your people from the spirit of indiscipline. THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Thursday, March 17, 2016 TURNING POINT - THE PRODIGAL SON READ LUKE 15:11-24 MEMORISE: When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!' (Luke 15:17) Turning point is the period of self-discovery and self-awareness regarding one's prevalent status of loss, such that one is ready to make a positive change. Backsliders need turning points like the prodigal son, when he said to himself, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men' (Luke 15:17-19). This decision eventually led to his deliverance from death, and restoration to the father's undoubted love, inexhaustible forgiveness and care. Nicodemus was a good religious leader among the Pharisees. But that he met Jesus that night, his life would have remained the same. Apostle Paul thought he was pursuing God's course by committing the early Christians to death, until he met Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. That was his turning point (Acts 9:1-6). Prophet Moses was a shepherd in the wilderness. His turning point came when he saw and was sensitive to the burning bush. He said, I will go over and see this strange sight - why the bush does not burn up (Exo 3:3). Peter's turning point came the day he met Christ after he had laboured all night in his fishing business. The miraculous catch endeared him to the Saviour in an encounter he couldn't have easily forgotten. Have you had such a definite encounter with Christ? Are you born again? If not, let today be your turning point. Confess your sin now, and accept Christ's lordship. Let Him start to live the new life in you (Gal 2:20). That is all. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, please reveal to me the very person You see me to be on Your error-free radar. 2. Lord, give my life, home, business and ministry the needed turning points, unto Your eternal glory. 3. Oh Lord, You have got this nation in Your hands. Let there be positive turnaround for the sake of Your people in the nation. THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Tuesday, March 15, 2016 OPEN TO CORRECTION READ PROVERBS 9:9 MEMORISE: Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. (Prov 9:9) The text for the Living Water for today implies that a wise man will be open to instruction. Instruction involves two things: giving of information, and correcting misinformation and misconducts. All of us need to be corrected from time to time. John wrote, If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1: Solomon compliments this in Proverb 28:13.To the natural man, it is often very hard to learn from mistakes. To learn from an error, one needs to admit it, confess it, and make adjustment so that it doesn't happen again. However, failing to admit, and trying to free oneself from such error cannot bring mercy from God, but punishment. An example of this bad attitude was Uzziah, a remarkably successful king of Judah who reigned for 52 years. His God-given success soon ran into his head, so much that he began performing the priests' duties. When confronted by the priests to correct him, he got annoyed, instead of admitting his fault and opening up to correction (2 Chr 26:16-22). Ragging at the priests, leprosy suddenly broke out of his forehead, which was an indication of God's judgment upon him. He was immediately rushed out of his palace into isolation till his death. Are people, even Christians different today? (cf. Jer 6:16-19) Are you open to correction and willing to comply with God's transforming Word? (2 Tim. 3:16). Please amend your ways in line with God's instructions, lest you be another king Uzziah (cf. Psa 95:7; Heb 3:7- .PRAYER POINTS: 1. Pray with CACHB 452. 2. Lord, I am sorry for those areas where I have refused to yield to Your instructions and corrections. 3. Lord, help all our leaders to eschew complacency and be more open to correction, whatever way You bring it. THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Monday, March 14, 2016 'LL BE REWARDED FOR WHAT? READ GALATIANS 6:7-10 MEMORISE: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (Gal 6:7) This is a serious question that all must take time to answer before it is too late. What will you be rewarded for? Nemesis is something that none can run away from. Ask Jacob. He paid dearly for his cheating tendencies. Both God and man (the likes of Laban) dealt with him. When Adoni-Bezek was cutting off the thumbs and toes of his victims, it's likely he never thought of the day when God would repay him in his own coins (Jdgs 1:1-7). When David was messing up with Uriah's wife and brutally murdering the man, he had forgotten that nemesis would catch up with him. In fact, he got more than what he bargained for (2 Sam 11ff). The recalcitrant people of God didn't escape the recompense (Jer 34:17). Conversely, the goods that the likes of Abraham did in relation to God and people, lived after them. No wonder Abraham was called God's friend. Can you think of people around you in your nation or locality, who have lived in the past, whether famously or notoriously, and were repaid in their own coins before and after their demise? Any lesson from them? (1 Cor 10:11, 12). Assuming you appear in the court hall of God now, what will you be rewarded for? Nehemiah boldly and humbly prayed unto God... Remember me for good (Neh 5:17-19). What have you done to be positively rewarded? Remember that you cannot deceive God, no matter how smart you might try to be. What you do today, becomes history tomorrow, and will be the basis of being rewarded immediately and ultimately. Beware! PRAYER POINTS: 1. Ask God to forgive you for those past actions, reactions and inactions that you know can't bring any positive result in your life. 2. Lord, help me to always think of the end result in whatever step I plan to take in life. 3. Ask God to make parents and other leaders at all level to be more sensitive to the inevitability of nemesis, to be cautious in their dealings. THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Saturday, March 12, 2016 PARENTS, TEACH; CHILDREN WILL OBEY READ JEREMIAH 35:1-19 MEMORISE: We have obeyed everything our forefather Jonadab son of Recab commanded us. Neither we nor our wives nor our sons and daughters have ever drunk wine. (Jer 35: ![]() Paul's injunction to parents in his epistles to the Ephesians and Colossians is to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord rather than provoke them to rebellion (Eph 6:1-4; Col 3:20, 21). Many parents tend to leave the spiritual upbringing of their children to the church. The lessons they learn in the children church is often all the children ever learn. They neglect the children in such ways. The sons of Recab did not have such an upbringing. Their father trained them to know what was right and wrong. They had their family doctrine and tradition, and were not easily led astray even by a prophet. It is the parents' duty to teach their children the way of the LORD (Deut 49:6,7). Timothy was brought up by his mother and grandmother this way (2 Tim 1:5; 3:15). This is perhaps what is lacking in the upbringing of many youths these days, which leads them to be dependent on the words of the prophet rather than trust God to speak with them directly. As a parent, the first set of people God requires from you as fruit of the kingdom are the fruit of your loins. How faithful are you to this duty? Offer your children to God so they can carry Him to their generations. Let there be no spiritual gap (Jdg 2:10). Henceforth, be more committed to the upbringing of your children in the way of the Lord. You will then have rest now and in the future, because, only then will they be able to obey the legacies you are giving them in the Lord, just like the Recabites did as touching their father's commands in the Lord. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, teach me the way to bring up my children so that they can know You the more, and be more obedient. 2. Lord, pour Your grace upon every member of the Christians home to function in their different capacities to advance Your Kingdom. 3. We want total peace for our leaders. Lord come and teach them by Yourself, so that they can know and receive You in their hearts. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Friday, March 11, 2016 A SHINING GENEROSITY READ GALATIANS 6:7-10 MEMORISE: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (Gal 6:7) The story is told of a man and woman who gave a sizeable contribution to their church to honour the memory of their son who lost his life in the war. When the announcement was made to the congregation of the generous donation, a woman whispered to her husband,"Let's give the same amount in honour of each of our boys." The husband replied,"What are you talking about? Neither of our sons was killed in the war." "Exactly," said the woman. "Let's give it as an expression of our gratitude to God for sparing their lives." What we give to charitable concerns during our life produces benefit in three dimensions. (1) It helps those in need; (2) It inspires others to give; and (3) It forms an 'inner' character in the giver; one marked by less selfishness and materialistic tendencies, greater generosity, and heightened awareness of and concern for other people. As you go about your business and other endeavours today, keep in mind that when you give, you are ultimately giving to God in people, even if your gift is made to an institution or organisation. Churches and other charities are made up of people. Your giving brings sunshine to the lives of others, and will return to you at the end of the day. Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. PRAYER POINTS 1. Thank God for your life and the grace to still be in existence. 2. Pray that the labours of our heroes past (church, national and historical) will not be in vain. 3. Pray that God will give us all a heart for others' welfare. EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 2 SAMUEL 20-24 Every issue of shame and reproach in your life is turning to a testimony before this month ends in Jesus Christ name! |
THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Thursday, March 10, 2016 LOOK UP TO HIM READ PSALM 121:1-8 MEMORISE: I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? (Psa 121:1) In looking to God for deliverance of any kind, man is prone to try to discover what material He has on hand to work on in coming to his relief. It is so human to look and crave for something in sight that will help the Lord in supplying our needs. To need a sum of money while not being able to think of a friend, colleague, or moneyed institution from which it might be obtained, gives a dark background to the scene. The outlook is all liabilities, with no resources to help. To God's child, what is the real situation? Are there nothing but liabilities? Are there no resources? Where are they? Above you, below you, around you. Earth and air are full of wealth untold. Keep your eye on Him. It is not necessary for us to see any help in sight, nor is it really necessary for God to have any relief on hand. He needs nothing to take off from. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. What did He make them from? Nothing. Remember, not a scrap of anything was used to make it. He suspends the earth on nothing. It hangs all right. A God who can make the earth, sun, moon and stars out of nothing, and keep them hanging on nothing, will supply all your needs, whether He has anything to begin or to work with or not. Just that you trust Him; He will see you through. Believe in Him and see His goodness in the land of the living. PRAYER POINTS 1. Thank God for creating and sustaining your life by His own incomprehensible power. 2. Intercede for the ministers of the gospel, that they will trust absolutely in the power of God for all things. 3. Intercede for the leadership of our nation, that they may learn to rely on God's power for the anticipated transformation. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Wednesday, March 9, 2016 LITTLE, YET FRUITFUL READ 1 CORINTHIANS 15:50-58 MEMORISE: Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Cor 15:58) We remember Moses, the great emancipator, lawgiver, prophet and leader; we forget Aaron, his brother, who served as his spokesperson before Pharaoh. We remember Joseph, the fair-haired dreamer who rose to fame and fortune on Pharaoh's throne and brought deliverance to his famine-ridden family; we forget Reuben, Judah, and the other brothers who watched over their father and entire household of Israel and brought them safely to Egypt. We remember Abraham, the courageous founder of a new faith; we forget his wife, Sarah, who as his companion and co-worker, also sacrificed and suffered. We remember Ruth; we forget Naomi. We remember David; we forget Jonathan. A life needs to be great to be beautiful. There may be as much beauty in a tiny flower as in a majestic tree, in a little gem as in a great jewel. A life may be very lovely, and yet be insignificant in the world's eyes. A beautiful life is one that fulfils its mission in the world (i.e., what God made it to be) and does what God made it to do. Are you feeling or thinking that because you think you have just a commonplace gift, you cannot live a beautiful life, that you cannot be a blessing to this world? Note: the smallest life that fills its place well is far lovelier in God's sight than the largest and most splendidly gifted who yet fails in its divine mission. Do your best for God and the benefit of mankind with the one-life that God has given you. PRAYER POINTS 1. Thank God for the God-appointed partners (marriage, colleague, business, ministerial etc) around you; pray that God should help you to appreciate their different roles, however little they may be. 2. Pray for abundant grace from God in order to be fulfilled in your God-given mission. 3. Pray that God will help our leaders at all levels, so that they would not fail in the responsibilities entrusted to them. THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Tuesday, March 8, 2016 (MOTHERS' DAY) IF YOU KNEW THE GIFT OF GOD READ JOHN 4:5-10 MEMORISE: Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who is it that asks you for a drink....." (John 4:10) Her ignorance of the Personality who was speaking with her made the Samaritan woman almost miss her blessing. She considered Him a man and a Jew who, by cultural requirement, was not supposed to have any relationship with a Samaritan, talk less of a woman. Her response to His request was almost an accusation for His lack of consideration for the prevailing tradition of the day. The Lord Jesus choose however to condescend and reveal to her the value of the Gift she was about to throw away. Finally, her eyes were opened and she realised what she had been missing. A woman who had been an outcast became the evangelist who won her whole community to the Lord just because she realised she was before the Gift of God. The Lord is presenting a gift to you today, which may be in a form you could neither have imagined or expected. God packages His treasures in earthen vessels that men may consider unworthy (2 Cor 4:7). Holding such gifts in high esteem ensures you gain the water of life that the Lord is presenting to you, so you may not thirst again. God's gift is often located in unexpected places. It may be that pastor you underestimate, that child you look down on, that spouse with whom you have become too familiar, or the co-worker you don't value. On your way, be very sensitive. How? Let God's Word fill and control your steps. Also, let the Holy Spirit guide your spirit. You can be as sensitive as Moses, never missing the blessing of discovering that the bush was burning without being consumed. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, open my eyes that I may see as You want me to, and behold the wonderful gift you have packaged to better my life. 2. Lord, help every believer to understand that the gift of God is packaged in men, so that we will stop messing around with those You place around us, will no longer miss your blessings. 3. Lord Jesus, reveal Yourself to those at the helms of affair in this nation, as the packaged Gift from God, and help them to embrace You. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Monday, March 7, 2016 GOD'S UNCHANGING STANDARD READ TITUS 1:5-9 MEMORISE: Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and 'Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness. (2 Tim 2:19) Standard can generally be defined as a level of quality skill, ability or achievement by which someone or something is judged, that is considered to be necessary or acceptable in a particular situation. There are standards and there are standards everywhere, but these ones are incomparable to God's, whose standard supersedes all other ones. Come to think of it: If the mortal and fallible man can set a standard for doing things, would the Almighty do less? Societal and organisational standards can be compromised and manipulated because the world itself is already compromised, but God's standard remains unchangeable and unchanging. God's standard, as ageless as it is, can never be obsolete (Psalm 119:160). For example, Paul clearly explains God's standard for the would-be church office holders (1 Tim 3:1ff). No heaven-conscious growth-minded church attempts to modify it. One thing that is undoubted about standards is that they do not fall or decline in a day; it takes a gradual process. Ranging from little indulgence, to adorning 'it does not matter' syndrome. Dear devout, will God's unchanging standard for godliness, righteousness, holiness, justice, relationships, administration, marriage, etc. be mellowed down under your watch? You need to check up now and watch out. (1 Cor. 16:13) You owe it as a duty to observe, protect, defend and encourage others to follow the unchanging standard. Earthly rules might have changed but the divine ones have not! PRAYER POINTS 1.Lord, let me not fall victim of the 'disease' of it-doesn't matter Christianity. 2. Holy Spirit, moderate my motives and actions, so that i don't bend Your rules in any way. 3. Lord, deliver the present-day Church from the tendency to try 'civilizing' the unchanging God. THE LIVING WATER: DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Sunday, March 6, 2016 CONSCIOUS OF YOUR CONSCIENCE? READ ROMANS 2:12-16 MEMORISE: To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. (Titus 1:15) A mother was helping her son one day with his spelling assignment and they came to the words "conscious" and "conscience". She asked her son, "Do you know the difference between these two words?" The son immediately replied, "Sure, mom. Being conscious is when you are aware of something or things around you, and conscience is when you wish you weren't." The conscience is like a sharp square peg in our hearts. When we are confronted by a situation that calls for a right-or-wrong decision, that square begins to turn. Its corner cuts into our hearts, warning us with an inward "Knowing" that we are facing a situation in which we must make a choice against evil and for good. In the case where the conscience is ignored time after time, however, the corners of the square are gradually worn out, and the 'peg' of the conscience becomes a circle that twists and turns at will. When that circle turns within one's heart, there is no inner sensation of warning. In effect, one is left without a conscience. The conscience is "Mr somebody or something inside of you that tells you the rightness or wrongness of your actions" but a sound conscience is indeed a gift from God. Are you conscious of its presence and working in your life in making moral decisions? Have you been nurturing it with God's Word and Spirit to make it more alert to your moral needs? Heed its warning signals early and you will be spared much pain and heartache. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Heal my seared conscience and repossess it with Your Spirit, o Lord. 2. Revive the life of God in the consciences of our religious/political leaders. 3. O Lord, give us all, a sound mind, and help us to be obedient to our consciences. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Saturday, March 5, 2016 KEEP YOUR TEMPER READ EXODUS 32:15-20 MEMORISE: Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. (Prov. 25:28) When a person loses his temper, one of the most common expressions used to describe the situation is "fly off the handle". This phrase refers to the head of a hammer coming loose from its handle as the carpenter attempts to use it. Many terrible things can happen as a result. Firstly, the hammer becomes useless, no longer good for work. In like manner, when a person loses his temper, he often loses his effectiveness. Anything he says may not be taken seriously, and is likely to be unproductive. Secondly, the hammerhead, twirling out of control, is likely to cause some type of damage to anything on its path, including brutal injury and death, as the case may be. The person who loses his temper causes damage even if he doesn't realise it, perhaps physically to people or objects in his way, and nearly always emotionally to those who feel they are victims of uncontrolled wrath. Thirdly, the repair of both the hammer and the resulting damage takes time. The person who loses temper may recover quickly, but the one who is the victim of the hotness of the temper rarely recovers as quickly. Your temper is like a fire. It gets very destructive when it gets out of control. Keep your temper today; nobody else wants it! You know why? Your anger never works the work of righteousness (Jas 1:20). Control your spirit and you will be a wise person (Prov 16:32). PRAYER POINTS 1. Lord, give me the spirit of self-control. 2. Pray that God will help to restore every good thing about your life and home, that has been destroyed undue display of bad temper. 3. Ask God to restore every good thing that envy and bad temper have destroyed or rendered useless in our nation. EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 1 SAMUEL 21-25 You will make it in Jesus Christ name |
THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Friday, March 4, 2016 ETERNALLY SECURE IN CHRIST READ ISAIAH 43:4 MEMORISE: Since you are precious and honoured in my. sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life. (Isa 43:4) The huge amount government spend on the security of Presidents is undoubtedly high. They call it security vote, and you are left to spend it as you like, in most countries. Such is not audited and the beneficiaries are never called to account for how it is spent. In spite of all these voted huge amounts of money, cases abound in nations where their Heads of State die mysteriously, some are even murdered like cheap chickens, most surprisingly in the full glare of the so-called personal security details. Their best physicians have been to no avail. Truly, Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain (Psa 127:1). Brethren, the Word of God is true to life. The maximum security of your life is in the hand of God. He is ready to demonstrate and lavish His protection on you. He did it for Moses. Where many children were killed according to king Pharaoh's command in the broad day light, Moses' life was spared. What of Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego, those who carried them to the furnace of fire died in their stead. The accusers of Daniel did not return from the den of lions. Why are you running helter-skelter for the security of your life? So many made a shipwreck of their lives by seeking protection/security from man and Satan (cf. Jer 17:5- . God means what He says according to His word that, He will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in Him. If you obey Him, you will enjoy the provision also.PRAYER POINTS 1. Lord, I believe in Your power to secure me eternally. Help me to trust You absolutely. 2. Lord, defend me and everything that relates to me always against the onslaught of the devil and his cohorts. 3. Lord Jesus protect your servants that are working in dangerous places. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Thursday, March 3, 2016 ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES READ ECCLESIASTICS 10:8-15 MEMORISE: Whoever digs a pit may fall into it; whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. Whoever quarries stone may be injured by them (Eccl 10: ![]() There is a consequence for every action taken. But this fact seems to be lost in the diary of many people. No wonder they live as if they have the unfettered liberty to say anything, do anything and go scot free. In this careless state, many people carry on in life only to discover; when it is too late, that they must account for the way they had lived. The wise preacher in our today's text sought to draw attention to the inevitability of a payback time for all of man's actions. He warned that those who seek to entrap other people or strip them of all forms of protection shall sooner or later fall victim of their own activities. The worst condition a man can get into is to be full of himself. How many people today go about life thinking they know everything, they can do everything, and they fear nothing and no one, whether in the family, office, church or the society at large. Such people routinely trample on the rights of others and frighten their victims into silence. Anyone in this condition is in reality, blinded by self-delusion, pride and arrogance. He will soon realise that there is payback time for all actions. The only remedy for such people is to retrace their steps, repent, pay for damages where possible, and ask God for mercy. PRAYER POINTS 1. O Lord, let me always remember and continually live by the fact that whatever I do has consequences in a way or the other. 2. O Lord, open the eyes of our leaders to know that there is a pay back time, so that the level of corruption in the Church and society will abate. 3. Pray that the Lord will help you so that you will not be accused of aggravating the already corrupt situations in the society. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Wednesday, March 2, 2016 NEVER WASTE GOD'S RESOURCES READ JUDGES 15:1-20 MEMORISE: Samson said to them, "Since you've acted like this, I won't stop until i get my revenge on you." (Judges 15:7) It is very clear in Genesis that God formed man from clay before breathing the breath of life into him. God detests wasting His resources. When He provided manna for the Israelites, His instruction bothered not only on obedience, but was in a way, teaching them resource management that is lacking in our world today (Exo 16:17-20). Jesus Christ also exhibited resource management when He asked His disciples to gather the leftovers after He miraculously fed thousands. He taught us to avoid waste (Mark 8:8; 6:43). All men are God's resources. He expects us to utilise the endowments, resources and gifts lavished on us justifiably and judiciously. Samson wasted his God-given resources. This man commissioned to deal with God’s enemies, was going about wasting the anointing (Judges 15:1ff). What gifts and talents have you been endowed with? Do you sqaunder them? Any of your gifts and talents misused or misdirected is as good as being wasted (Matt 25:24-25).use the resources in the way that God wants them to be used. And you can understand the essence of the given resources as you study the Word of the Giver. God is unhappy seeing His resources wasted, just as you won't open your eyes and fold your arms while your empire collapses! Make amends today if you have been wasting His rare resources. Remember: God holds you accountable for things He has put under your watch. PRAYER POINTS 1. I shall not be a resource waster, in Jesus Name. 2. Holy Spirit, I open my heart unto You, fill me and let your gifts operate in ne to do supernatural exploits in your vineyard. 3. Lord, help Your Church to rightly appropriate the resources You are committing to us with all prudence. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Tuesday, March 1, 2016 VICTORY AT LAST READ 2 SAMUEL 5:1-10 MEMORISE: When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a compact with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. (2 Sam 5:3) There are many lessons for us from the life of King David. How God dealt with him, his sins and forgiveness all serve as lessons for us. In the above passage, David at last arrived at the palace to reign and rule over all the tribes of Israel. Major authorities of the Bible accept that he was between sixteen and seventeen years of age when he was first anointed King to replace King Saul. Between the anointing and his coronation at age thirty, God needed to take him through the "university of adversity", not to crush him but to strengthen him and brush him up for the coming assignments. On the eve of Saul's death, David lost everything he ever possessed in Ziklag, to some marauders. But by the next day, he became king over Judah and later over all Israel, despite the antics of King Saul. Before his ascension to the throne, imagine how he had demonstrated acts of forgiveness and humility to Saul and had practically cared for his followers. God in heaven was watching. What are you passing through today? Stop fretting. Relax and see how God will take you successfully through the wilderness of life. You will get to where He has planned for you, whether the enemy likes it or nor. It shall be victory at last (Amen). PRAYER POINTS 1. Lord, demonstrate in my life that You turn mourning into dancing by Your unquestionable power. 2. I take authority over every challenge I am going through and I'll go through, in Jesus' name. I will laugh last over them. 3. Let every challenge confronting the Church in the land be a walk over, in the name of Jesus. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Monday, February 29, 2016 HUMILITY IN PRAYER READ 2 CHRONICLES 6:12-21 MEMORISE: Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus (Phil 2:5) Humility is a virtue that attracts both human and divine favour. The tendency to focus more on self and put great emphasis on personal achievements than God is a fiery temptation to modern day achievers. Solomon demonstrated his humility in his early reign, despite his glory and achievement in building a magnificent temple for God. The content of his prayer reveal the virtues of God. Solomon describes the God of Israel as of incomparable perfection. He is infinite and immense. He whom the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain. God still answers prayers today; we should not allow the extremity and magnitude of our situation to cause us to doubt Hum. Solomon's prayer of dedication was simple and straightforward. His focus is different from those of modern day Pharisees who despise others and exalt themselves. The humble person places God far above every person or situation. He also recognises the presence and importance of others in preference to self. How we pray and what we pray about speak volume about us. As you start to pray today, start with reverential humility; pour your heart to Him in faith, and leave the rest in His hand. PRAYER POINTS 1. Lord, teach me how to pray. 2. Holy Spirit, baptise me with humility. 3. Lord, let there be revival of Bible based prayers and praying in the Church. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Sunday, February 28, 2016 WEEDS AMONG THE WHEAT READ MATTHEW 13:24-30 MEMORISE: But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. (Matt 13:25) When Jesus gave this parable, He meant it to give us an insight into the reality that there are enemies (Satan and his cohorts) on the prowl. Jesus Himself says, while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat. He identified a specific enemy who actually sows tares in place of wheat. Tares/weeds are neither planted nor desired by the sower of the good seeds. They reduce the economic value of the wheat, and can render the labour invested on the venture unprofitable/fruitless. Tares are demonic seeds planted to reverse God's good works in the life of a man. It stands for those satanic deposits that neutralise the labour and effort of a man. They can include satanic deposits in dreams, through poisoning, etc. They also include negative words (curses, spells, etc.) Jesus is the only One who can set your wheat free from the tares of the devil. God has given us the assurance that with Him, we are above the threats of principalities and powers, and the empty declarations of the evil ones called spells and incantations (Numbers 23:23). He will do it now if you come and surrender to Him unreservedly. Those negative words working against your progress will be permanently reversed as you table your case on the altar of prayer; and life of holiness unto God. You will not labour in vain. Are you ready for His salvation? PRAYER POINTS 1. Lord, turn my wasted years into season of profitability and rejoicing. 2. I uproot every weed among the wheat of my life, home and endeavours, in Jesus' name. 3. Lord, uproot the weeds from among the wheat of the ministry, so that they stop bringing dishonour to the credibility of Your service here on earth. THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTION Saturday, February 27, 2016 IT IS FINISHED! READ JOHN 19:19-30 MEMORISE: When He had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. (John 19:30). Jesus Christ came into this world to save mankind. His mission was clearly defined from the start. He came to save, heal and deliver. The task took Him through a lot. He was misinterpreted, molested, maligned and neglected by the Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes and the whole Jews. Yet, He stayed focused. He was given 39 strokes of the multi-slinger whip. The all-sufficient God thirsted and was given nothing but gall and other bitter drinks to take. When He had finished paying the demands of eternal justice, He shouted to the hearing, dismay and shame of principalities, powers, host of hell and Satan, It is finished. That is, "I have perfected everything that is written in the book of God regarding the redemption of the once condemned man. Satan, you are finished." God has perfected His plan to deliver you. He has given you His only begotten Son, who has dealt provisionally and finally with the devil on your behalf. Remember, provisionally, God has 'finished' and provided in advance for the needs of mankind. But you have the responsibilities of appropriating and actualising this. How? Believe in your heart, and confess with your mouth. Rise up today, and declare to the devil, it is finished (Rom 10:9,10). As you approach life today with this faith and consciousness, God will arrest all arresters in your life, in Jesus' name. Amen. You have nothing to fear and worry about. Just cast your burden on the Saviour who did all for your sake. PRAYER POINTS 1. Thank God for your redemption and salvation perfected in Christ Jesus. 2. Satan, it is finished for you in my life, home, vocation, ministry, etc. Get thee behind me, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. 3. Lord arrest every troubler of Your Church in the land, in Jesus' name. EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: JUDGES 12-16 The Lord will satisfy you with the good things of life in Jesus Christ name. |
