The situation in Orlu and other parts of Imo and Anambra is far worse than you can imagine .

Most of Orlu people have abandoned their communities and homes to the criminals who occupy the surrounding forests in several camps. Young girls and women are routinely kidnapped and taken to the bandit camps and raped. Some are even underaged. IPOB gang members routinely kidnap and kill anyone they suspect to be an informant. No occasion such as burials can be carried out until IPOB criminals are paid a hefty sum. These criminals are drawn mostly from cultists , prison escapees and hardened criminals.

This is where we need to reform the process of arraigning suspects to courts.

The Police should never be allowed to arraign suspects in court over serious charges.

The case file should have been sent to the DPP in the Ministry of Justice .

The Police continue to abuse their limited privelages of charging someone to court on frivolous charges.

The police should be limited to charging suspects to court on only misdemeanor offences.

If they have cause to charge someone to a higher court instead of the magistrate courts that they are only allowed to , the police won't be arraigning people on trumped up charges.

These kids are not supposed to be charged for treason and if they were, it's only the DPP that can handle such cases in a Federal High Court.

I know what I am saying because a friend of mine was falsely accused by a business associate and was arrested by the police on fraud allegations.

Only a High Court can entertain fraud charges and apart from the EFCC, NIFU, Police Fraud Branch ,Alagbon and the relevant ministry/commissioner of justice office, it's not a DCO on conjunction with a DPO that are supposed to charge one to court. They are to transfer the case to the above highlighted investigative and prosecution office and where cause and mounting evidence is found, charge the person to a court of competent jurisdiction.

These kids were hastily charged to a magistrate court that does not have the jurisdiction to entertain Treason charge. The magistrate then remanded them to Prison pending when they are to be arraigned to a competent High Court. This is how it played out. And those I'm the DPP ought to have reviewed the case file and dropped Treason charges and instead refer the case back to a magistrate court for trial on public disturbance charge.

The Police are one of the main reason we have congested courts and prison yards because they keep filing serious charges in the wrong court with no case in the first place.

It was later after settling the case at the Police station by agreeing to pay a hefty sum to the false accusers and police as bribe, that we later learnt that the accuser was only interested in seeing my friend remanded in prison custody and for him to rack up legal bills.

It's a dirty racket involving the Police, the magistrate court and even Prison officials
