Suspected Boko Haram fighters have killed 15 Nigerian soldiers in an attack on a military base in Borno State, security sources said Saturday.

The terrorists rode into Magumeri Local Government Area and sacked a brigade there at about 6:00 p.m. on Friday, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

A captain, a lieutenant and 13 soldiers lost their lives following intense firefight with the terrorists, sources said.

PREMIUM TIMES has withheld the identity of the officers to allow Nigerian Army enough time to notify their loved ones.

Nineteen soldiers were wounded in the attack. They were evacuated to the military hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.



About 24 soldiers who survived the attack, which was first reported by Agence France Presse on Friday, left the base to a safer military facility, sources said.

Heavy military equipment, including anti-aircraft machine guns and Toyota Hilux vehicles, were reportedly stolen by the insurgents during the attack.

It was not immediately clear the level of casualties against the terrorists. The Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) had already claimed credits for the attack via its propaganda channels.

The army has not issued a statement about the attack. A spokesperson did not immediately return requests for comments on Friday night.

The attack came as the military was managing the aftermath of a similar overrun of a base in Borno on April 26. At least five soldiers were killed on that day while the dozens feared missing were yet to be found. Read more

The Anambra state police command have arrested Ogochukwu Onourah 'f' aged 27 years of Ilongodo, Ogidi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, for luring her male friend on facebook, Emerole Ikechukwu, from Imo state to Ogidi and arranged for him to be robbed.

According to a statement from the police, Ikechukwu from Irete village Owerri, had reported at the Ogidi Police Station that a female facebook friend lured him from Imo State to Ogidi and that upon arrival at about 1:15pm, the supposed friend directed a bike man who picked him and took him to the bush where was robbed at gunpoint of his money cash sum of Seven thousand Naira (#7000), his ATM card where another sum of Ten thousand Naira (#10:000) was withdrawn and other valuables.

Following the report, Police detectives attached to Ogidi Division traced and arrested one Abuchi Mba aged 23 years of Ikenga Ogidi and recovered Ikechukwu's bag containing his clothes from him.
Discreet investigation also led to the arrest of the Ogochukwu.
The police say the suspects will be charged to court soon. cts have confessed and effort is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices in order to bring them to Justice.

The wife of an Islamic cleric in Ibafo, Ogun State , Mrs Aina Larubawa , has raised the alarm over the health conditions of their kids who are inhaling the smoke of Indian hemp allegedly puffed by the cleric, Isau Larubawa .
The mother of five children lamented that she had been spending money to treat two of the children – Ajoke, 10 and seven- year- old Fatimoh – who are battling eye problem reportedly caused by the smoke.
She stated that all her efforts to prevail on her husband, who is in his 70s , to stop the habit of smoke far away from the house had proved abortive.
The family lives in a two bedroomed apartment .
Aina , who sells clothes , told City Round that Alfa asked her to bear with the situation or relocate elsewhere with the children.
The native of Oyo State said apart from the negative effects of the smoking, she had endured tough moments ranging from physical assault to lack of care for their children.
She recalled , “ I have been in these problems seven months after we got married 24 years ago. I caught him smoking when my first pregnancy was five months. We were living at a boys ’ quarter in Mowe then. I wouldn’ t have married him if I knew he is a smoker. He said he intentionally hid it from me and that I could do my worse .
“ I tried to abort the pregnancy to no avail. He beat me while I was pregnant . I didn ’ t want to divorce him because this is my second marriage . I remarried after my former husband, for whom I have a child , died . I don ’t want people to be insulting me of moving from one matrimonial home to another. Sudan’s Bashir to face questioning over ‘financing terror’


Sudan’s prosecutor general on Thursday ordered the questioning of deposed president Omar al-Bashir over money-laundering and “financing terrorism”, as protesters staged a vast rally in Khartoum to demand a civilian government.

A source in the prosecutor general’s office confirmed reports on state media that acting public prosecutor general Al-Waleed Sayyed Ahmed had ordered Bashir’s questioning under “anti-money laundering and financing terrorism laws”.

IT is barely one month to the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term. In another six weeks or so, the Eighth National Assembly will also wind up.
That the Executive and Legislative branches endured a stormy relationship since they came into government in May/June 2015 is beyond argument.
No other legislative instrument underlined the war of nerves that raged between the two estates of the realm more than the Electoral Amendment Bill 2018.
This Bill, which started receiving attention in 2016 due to the urgent need to correct the flaws of the 2015 general elections, was controversially rejected three times by the President.
On December 6, 2018, Buhari gave his reasons for refusing assent to it: “Any real or apparent change to the rules this close to the election may provide an opportunity for disruption and confusion in respect to which law governs the electoral process.
“This leads me to believe that it is in the best interest of the country and our democracy for the National Assembly to specifically state in the Bill that the Electoral Act will come into effect and be applicable to elections commencing after the 2019 general elections.”
Thus was torpedoed the high hopes many Nigerians had placed on the use of a more highly refined law to conduct the 2019 general.......Read more
