overnor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State on Saturday verbally attacked fiery Muslim preacher, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, at a prayer session in Ado-Ekiti. Ayodele Fayose led thugs to beat up judges The cleric had courted the governor’s venom by urging him to show more decorum in his public utterances. The altercation took place during a prayer conference and award ceremony organised by the Southwest branch of the Ansar-ud-Deen Muslim Society of Nigeria between March 25 and 28. On Saturday, Fayose was in attendance at the event, which had as highlights prayers for the country and the honouring of deserving Muslims with awards, when the outspoken preacher offered his advice. Those at the event said the preacher told Fayose that as the Number One citizen of the state, he needs to be more cautious in his public utterances. The unsolicited advice apparently did not sit well with the governor, they said, as he responded with abusive words at the preacher, who attempted to reply him but was restrained by some of the elders in attendance. His microphone was disabled. The elders also appealed to the governor to leave the venue, having already performed his role, but he bluntly refused, an action that led to a three-hour disruption of the programme. The governor subsequently left the event, which ended on Monday morning. Attempts to interview the cleric, who was present until Sunday, proved abortive. Mr. Lere Olayinka, Special Assistant to Fayose on New Media, expressed the view that the cleric deserved the insults the governor drenched him in.

I did last night! Mehn, i need a car now. Its now a necessity. I have tried saving money from my meagre income, but my brother and sisters, its been like letting the camel pass through the eye of the needle. My likes...at my level, i will like to have any toyota camry, avalon, etc. Well, am just trying to express myself. My fellow okada jumpers, who struggle day and night to train your younger ones, and take care of your parents, relax, you will get a car soon by God's grace! Just work hard![/color]

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in a bid to generate revenue for banks has introduced a maintenance fee of N1 on every current account transaction. This was contained in a circular signed by the Director of Financial Policy and Regulation of CBN, Kevin Amugo and addressed to commercial banks. This comes few weeks after the central bank kicked off its Zero COT, commission on turnover, policy for all commercial banks within the country. CBN said, “The revised guide to bank charges (RGBC) which came into effect on April 1, 2013 provides for a phased elimination of commission on turnover (COT) charges in the Nigerian banking industry, under the guidelines, a zero COT regime was to come into effect from January 2016.” The apex bank observed that while COT was gradually phased out, some banks began charging maintenance fee in addition to COT, adding that it was also aware of the impact of dwindling oil prices, Treasury Single Account, TSA, and other market turbulence. CBN said, “In the interest of stability, of the banking system, a negotiable current account maintenance fee not exceeding N1.00 per mille (1/N1,000) may be charged in respect to all customer induced debit transaction”. It would be recalled that the apex bank has equally imposed a stamp duty of N50 on every transaction. This latest policy of CBN implies that for every N100,000 leaving a current account, deposit money banks are permitted to deduct N100 for account maintenance.
