One can be against ECOWAS military intervention and still at the same time vehemently against the Coup plotters in Niger. I belong to this category.

So many retarded idiooots in Nigeria and it is really scary. You see grown up adults educated up to University level typing confidently (and ignorantly anyway) on the internet that the coup plotters in Niger are legitimate/justified because of pictures showing barely 5000 people demonstrating support for them.

These same "set" of people are quick to label protests in Nigeria demonstrating support for the ruling government "sponsored" so what has miraculously changed? Coup plotters in Niger are incapable of sponsoring protests or what?

No matter how badly a democratically elected leader is ruling, it does NOT justify a coup rather the people disgruntled by the ruler's incompetence should contest to displace him. If the coup plotters feel that indeed they were popular, they should have contested in elections.

Protests or demonstrations =/= popularity.

The more I read retarded opinions on the internet, the more I am convinced that Nigeria's problem is not only leadership failure, the average intelligence level of the country is equally poor.

The school fees should remain the same till the student loan Scheme start running and students has access to it.

It's just common sense.
No. I disagree.

At 100k - 200k a year, UNILAG (or other federal unis for that matter) fees still remain heavily subsidised.

Until the fees are raised to about 800k - 1.5 m per session, there is no reason for education bank or a students loan yet.

Government is asking people to pay 20% of the true price of university education and they are crying. What manner of entitlement is that?

Tertiary education is not a human right, It is a choice. Some people leave secondary schools to learn Mechanic and tailoring, where is their own free 700k a year?

Nigeria is very poor and unproductive for a 200 million population country.

Cut in cost of governance cannot put the country on a path of prosperity and growth. It is industrialisation or perpetual poverty. No other alternative.

It is rather myopic to even think Tinubu using a Toyota Camry is what will grow the country's economy ffs. grin grin

The post is meant for people with a working brain, not a m.oron like you that usually reacts emotionally to key issues.

I don't need to explain to intelligent people the immense benefits of keeping the over half a trillion naira (which dull Nigerians like you waste on pilgrimages annually to well-packaged scams called "holy lands" such as Makkah and Jerusalem) in the Nigerian economy.

Smart people already understand these things.

Before you know it, dull people like this will be saying Nigerians import almost everything and produce little, which is one of the reasons why the naira isn't rising sustainably over time against the dollar.

How will the naira rise when mumu people like you waste billions of naira on pilgrimages annually to "holy" lands helping the foreign countries build their own economy and your own economy stagnates?
People are also taking billions of naira yearly to school abroad with the hope of staying back.

People take billions of naira to seek quality healthcare abroad.

So, why are you unnecessarily pressed about people taking their own money for pilgrimage abroad?? Is it jealousy or envy? grin

I will say again : Make your own money and spend it anyway you want. You can't start policing people who made money legitimately and decide to go on pilgrimage abroad. Their money, their choice.

Nuisance.

Premium Times reports that over 95,000 Nigerians are currently in Saudi for hajj.

That's over 380 billion naira entering the Saudi economy since the traveling expenses will gulp at least 4 million naira per person.

And what do these Nigerians get in return for spending humongous amounts of money just to visit some shrine? Prayers.

Muslims believe any prayer made in Saudi during hajj gets automatically answered. Lols, we all saw how that played out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The prayers were useless. Science was the savior.

Saudi sef no dey rely on mere prayers to guard their shrine in Makkah.

If you like, go on a holy pilgrimage to Saudi or Jerusalem every year and pray fervently during the rituals, you'll still have your fair or unfair share of problems and challenges in life like other humans.

Prayers are mere wishes regardless of where they're recited.

Saudis go dey pray make Nigerians never wise. The billions of dollars that many mumu people pump into their economy annually really help. Countries with many dull heads like Nigeria don't develop. They're the slaves of this world.
Don't police how people spend their money. GTFOH.

Make your own money and spend it however you like, you won't be stopped.

Nonsense.

Been expecting to see some sort of speculations/discussions from the knowledgeable folks on this thread regarding Baba-go-fast's score card on policies such as:

- Over 40% increase in electricity tariff
- Student loan; requirements to qualify and concomitant effects on general tuition fees
- Subsidy removal; how people are trekking nowadays since they can't afford the crappy public bus
- 'Regularisation' of Naira to the FX market; resultant effect on basically everything imported

And most importantly, how all these will affect the regular man on the street earning 33k minimum wage...

From my own end, all I see is taxing on multiple fronts...owo council and owo turning on a grand national scale.

Is there a good side to expect in future?

I haven't really seen much discourse. Just pictures from oasis (still gloating from his victory), some banter, some small gender fights and a very awkward silence on the pressing issues.

I'm honestly asking so me sef can learn.
While I commend Tinubu for atleast taking those harsh decisions in the reversal of these fruitless schemes, the truth is these schemes shouldn't have started at all and the damage they have done to the country at this point looks irreversible from my pov.

Look at the (free) tertiary education subsidy nonsense (which that ignorant Awolowo started) for instance : That useless scheme was eating up the huge chunk of the education budget of the country. Public primary and secondary schools were neglected while the country subsidises tertiary education for entitled students studying stupid courses like Mass Comm, Botany, Theatre Arts, History, Philosophy etc. Those who study Professional courses like Medicine, Engineering etc quickly pack their bags and flee the country (which I support anyway) so the country is basically losing its huge investment. Kids aged 2-16 who were short-changed and denied quality primary and secondary education will grow up to be semi-literate, unintuitive and uncompetitive thus turning to crimes and all sort.

I don't even know what to say about Petrol subsidy than to shake my head for the billions of naira spent on subsidising a consumer product for years that didn't necessarily encourage productivity. Nigerians were gulping heavily subsidised petrol for over 35 years, literally eating the future of their unborn kids and you begin to wonder, why will the country not be in such deteriorating state? It didn't even stop at that, some custom officers were also feeding fat on illegal fuel export. Hehe.

On the Forex part, FG incentivised round-tripping with such a huge margin between official and parallel rates. People were making a killing buying from CBN and selling in the parallel market and further straining country's dollar reserve and weakening the currency further. Those people are made for life chilling in one resort in Abuja. Just sad ordinary Nigerians had no access hehe.

So, these policies by Tinubu are already too late. Even if they will reflect any direct benefit on ordinary citizens, it will take about 40 years that's if his successor does not even reverse them (to gain popularity) so waste of suffering again. grin grin

You do know there are hundreds of thousands of people whose parents never sponsor them beyond secondary school?

What the bill does is enable those who want to further their education do so even if their parents cannot afford to sponsor them.

When I see some of these criticisms, I just know it's coming from you guys are so far from the reality of an average Nigerian.

The student loan bill is highly commendable. Anyone who argues otherwise as far as I'm concerned is an enemy of the people.
Looks like you don't get it, do you?

Let me break it down : Every public University in Nigeria that is FG owned and State govt owned is already giving free money to every student yearly.

Ask me how

The ideal amount to study in a Uni in Nigeria is about 700k-1m yearly depending on the course. So, for every year a student spends in a Fed/state Uni and pays less than that amount, it means the state/Fed govt is paying the rest.

For example, I gain admission into OAU to study Elect Engr, I paid 60k year one, 52k year two, 45k year three and 50k year four. For every year, The FG is indirectly balancing my payment with about 800k yearly. So if a Nigeria Uni graduate is already been awarded 700k worth of education free, why is a loan unnecessary again unless the Government wants to stop subsidising tertiary education??

It's either a cheap publicity stunt (which 17 year old knows a 12 year plus civil servant that will act as guarantor, on top that for a paltry sum that's not worth the effort)

Or. . .

It's a precursor to raising fees materially which is a step in the right direction
I think it's more of the latter which to me is a good direction. Education is already heavily subsidised in Federal Unis - The FG is already funding about 90% of the entire students' fee so what's a student loan for if not that the tertiary education subsidy will be soon removed?

Personally, I'm all for putting an end to tertiary education subsidy and investing the money that would have gone in that direction in primary and secondary education. There are some local governments in Nigeria where there is no single quality primary school, most parents now prefer taking their wards to substandard private schools where they pay fees and still get substandard education (though better than what the public school will offer).

In addition to this, once the tertiary education subsidy is ended, no more free funding for nonsense theoretical course like Classics, Botany, History, Linguistics etc. If you wan study them, pay from your pocket.
