Politics / Re: My Experience Today With A Nigerian Police by doplove(m): 8:05am On Mar 08, 2016
ademega:
as much as we all hate police men but so many things are not clear in this story.
1. how did you know they were police men when u said they were in mufti? You were not there and the guy simply shared his experience.

2. I have never seen a man that would ask for direction from a police man, not in Nigeria. I've had to approach police and LASTMA for direction on several occasions.

3. if you want to ask for direction, you don't do that on motion but either Park or slow down to ask. saying he jumped into the car is funny somehow. You were not there to ascertain the true state of the vehicle when he was asking for direction.

4. are u sure the issue was all about one way or not because with the pix shown their it looked as if it wasn't a one way issue. Which other issues are you anticipating from him, he told you what he encountered.

5. you refused to tell us what eventually happened and how the issue was resolved or charged to court. You should ask him and not concluding.

yes we know Nigeria police are irrational most times but at the same time let us find out the truth and it would set us free

ademega submission.
Politics / Re: Solution to the Nigerian Economy by doplove(m): 4:24pm On Jan 22, 2016
Standing5:
You are being political with the truth here. Russia with all of its technological might even did not attempt to diversify their economy in less than a year, they set a 7-year window for it. That's what they did in reaction to the oil price crash which they know is no fault of Putin or their ruling party. Here you open your brain and try to blame APC for OPEC slipping cartel-like grip on oil prices control.
Buhari or APC isn't the reason Nigeria can't attempt to diversify the economy in 7-years, the 16 years of wasteful spending of excess crude accruals under Africa's largest clique (atleast as proven by arms scandal and oil fraud) looked a better time to have divesifyed the economy and substituted as many foreign goods and service with local alternative to boost the economic sustainance of Nigeria. Russia, with all its technological might, still saved for their current state same time Nigeria was experiencing same proportiƶnal surge in oil earning the did. We know OBJ tried to spur on local production capacity by banning or heavily taxing foriegn alternatives. What i don't know is why one particular man thinks cassava bread as economic diversification stsategy will cushion the massive effects of leakages from oil theft, NNPC looting, arms scandal, ministries stealing etc.

@Standing5, if you are truly patrotic about Nigeria you'll be more concerned on how to get Nigeria right. It's quite clear to me why it'll be very difficult to restore Nigeria to it's lost glory because of our general (political, ethnic, greed, myopic, etc.) bias.
I weep for my country.......the land flowing with milk and honey.
Business / Re: Why Do Our Bank Charges Us N301 While Cbn Sell For Them At N199 Per Dollar by doplove(m): 5:14pm On Jan 21, 2016
Greene66:
A partner of mine made a payment with a Nigerian bank DOLLAR card(not naira) on a NAIRA website and the rate was 185.. Thieves

@Bevista said the banks buys at higher rate, can i assume it's N185 quoted by @Greene66. To the best of my knowledge the banks never buys above the CBN rates.

Just imagine;
Profit when banks buy in exchange = N199-N185 = N14
Profit when banks sell in exchange = N300 - N199 = N101

This is daylight robbery, and we should all resist this if we can...... protest is one way.
Business / Re: Why Do Our Bank Charges Us N301 While Cbn Sell For Them At N199 Per Dollar by doplove(m): 3:42pm On Jan 21, 2016
veraponpo:
I do not think banks can do that because they are bound by BOFID/BOFIA. Because of the following reasons:

CBN sells at N197.

Banks do not sell at N301 rather it is BDC that does that.

There is inter-bank rates and that is within N198-201.

It is the parallel market that is selling above N300. There reason is because Nigeria as a country has very poor exporting ability. Our major export is crude oil and there is bad market for it now.

The demand and supply economics theory is working too. Demand for dollar is high and supply is low, therefore price is high.

Unfortunately, I have evidences to show you that the banks (I have accounts with FCMB and GTB) charge more than the blackmarket whenever I use my cards for foreign transactions. It bemoans my spirit that this practice is only obtained in Nigeria. In Angola, where I work, whenever you use their bank cards to do foreign transactions what you get is based on their central bank rates but, Nigeria is a different story. We need to escalate this to the consumer protection agency.

Nairaland / General / Extortion At The Nigerian Airports by doplove(m): 6:52pm On Aug 28, 2015
I'm really ashamed at the rate at which everybody at the airport is asking about what you have for them, from the police officers at the entrance to the NAHCO staffs. Whenever I meet colleagues from other countries, the first thing they will say to me is "wetin you get for me". I'll always react in such a manner as to what that meant and I hear barrage of begging at the airports. I feel demeaned knowing that this is all about my people. One told me that there is this laxative chocolate sold in his country and he buys it always on purpose to give to the people at Nigeria airport. This chocolate gives instant bowel movement when taken, most times he'll observe the guys take it and shortly rush to the restroom. I ones was travelling and the lady asked me wetin I get for am, I really didn't have any money but a N10 bill and when I gave it to her she vehemently refuse and asked me "wetin be this?".

My concern is that we need to let the right authorities know about this decay as it happens at our gateways which is actually what foreigners see first.
Nairaland / General / Re: Photos : President Jonathan Commissions Dutse International Airport by doplove(m): 3:42pm On Oct 22, 2014
When will all these crape of regional airports we have everywhere in Nigeria that are called international airport stop. Based on my international experience and exposure, there is NO international airport in Nigeria just regional, two or less runways and single terminal airports.
Nigerian leaders should go to Dubai to see what international airports look like, I didn't say go to Chad.

Politics / Re: Abia Inaugurates Committee For Ubani Market by doplove(m): 8:17pm On Jan 09, 2013
okpara ugo:

It is commendable. In the past one year the governor has relocated auto mechanics/spare parts dealers to the new mechanic village in ohiya, the timber market to ikot ekpene road, and now the main market to Ubani.

But some moneybags are truncating the efforts of government by one person owning up to 50 shops when some traders dont get any. Mr. Governor should intervene.

What is commendable about Abia State Government? Do not be fooled, majority of the shops in the old market has concrete tops and now he is conniving with some of his cohorts to build these poultry and then covert the old market. Please give me a break, I grew up in Umuahia and as well I'm a regular to Aba; Thief Anuohia Orji has impoverish people in Abia State. My prayer for him is that he must receive the same measure be it good or bad on how he ruled Abia State. All my folks that are left in Umuahia can't even afford decent meals. The major projects the government is doing is elevating agboros and himself. The good thing about the governor is that he is like Joseph from prison to prominence but the difference will be that he will go back to prison after 2015.
Politics / Re: Abia Governor Buys Ships With Stolen Govt Money by doplove(m): 10:29pm On Oct 25, 2012
Dansadaumallam: You are so clueless ans stupid to come to Nairaland to decieve people. Who on earth tell you that we the wporkers in abia state were being owed salaries for 3months.
For you information the period of salries in Abia is regular as follows: Hos,Ssg,Govt house,Min of Finance=every 1st week , works ,women affaris,Educaion and other every 2nd week.
Dont be a fool

@ Dansadaumallam, I'm very sorry for you, if you actually work in Abia State then you must belong to the agberos (who are the only people that get paid even without working). You can never cover pregnancy with bare hands nor can you tell a blind man that there is salt in the soup when there is none. I'll tell you this, you can only fool the people sometimes but not always. TA Orji and his supporters should better repent or....... the fire of the Holy Ghost will consume them. He is merely suffering from poverty mentality. I blame Orji Uzo Kalu by giving the reigns of Abia to TA. Chineke nna anyi bi n'eluigwe chuwa ha, na ihe anyi adighi ike.
