ABUJA—Deputy National Chairman, North, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Lawan Shuaibu, on Sunday said that President Muhammadu Buhari would not stop corruption probe of any member of the party, especially the ministerial nominees. Shuaibu who spoke to some Journalists in Abuja said that the president government came on the background of change and was ready to effect changes in the social circles. He however stated that the government would not act on mere allegations and petitions until such had been proven by the courts which may also pronounce judgments on the accused. He said: “You see the president has said several times that he believes in the rule of law, that he respects the rule of the law. Anything that is not in line with the constitution and the extant laws of this country, he would go for it. When it comes to the issue of the choice of people who will serve as ministers in his administration. I believe that until one convicted in the law court, we will be chasing shadows on the basis of suspicions and assumptions. “If he decides to interpret the laws in the case of people facing investigation, I think he is quite free to go ahead with it. “I think, quite frankly that he is not going to stop any investigations against any member of his cabinet. But should that investigation lead to conviction in courts, I assure you even before President Buhari ask them to resign, such a person would have brought a letter of resignation. The president cannot intervene, I assure you, in a matter before the court on behalf of anybody including his own child.” The APC scribe also refuted the insinuations in some quarters that the current anti corruption crusade of president Buhari was selective. “What did you expect the president to do? President Buhari has made it clear, even during his recent interview in New York, he said he would not be interfering with judicial process or procedures and he will wait to see when a court makes a decision on anyone, that is now when he will respect the decision of the court. “And when you talk about people who have contributed to his emergence as president, I do not expect anybody who contributed to the emergence of President Buhari in the last general election to do so because they wanted cover from corruption prosecution. If anybody thinks that way, I would to say that President Buhari is not thinking that way,” he said. Shuaibu also said that APC government would earnestly kick off to realize the dreams of Nigerians immediately after the nominees had been screened and sworn in. “As soon as the ministers are sworn-in, the business of governance will fully commence in earnest and actual implementation of the programmes of government will start off,” Shuaibu said. ![]() Russian President PUTIN has offered to TEAM UP with the Western World to DESTROY ISIS, but the West did not respond to his offer. Day by day Vladimir Putin is gaining mass support and popularity amongst ordinary citizens around the world for the action he is taking in the middle east. The west on the other hand are losing respect for their inaction and inability to make any real progress against ISIS. The only way forward is COOPERATION and western politicians need to see that instead of throwing up any barrier they can think off not to cooperate with Putin. Or, does it mean : Asking the West for a team up against ISIS is like a father to put a knife on his son's neck ??http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/611277/Putin-ISIS-Russia-Syria-Islamic-State-coalition-jets-air-strike

The Westminster Magistrate’s Court on Marylebone Road, London, on Monday granted an application for seizure of 27,000 pounds seized from a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke. Mrs. Alison-Madueke was arrested and later released on bail on Friday for alleged corruption-related offences. The cash was seized under Section 295 of Proceeds of Crime Act 2012. By granting the application, which was filed by the UK’s National Crime Agency, the money would be held in the custody of the court until April 5, 2016. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that although the former minister did not appear today in court, her mother, Beatrice Agama, and another woman, Melanie Spencer, appeared in today’s sitting. Reports also said a separate application was also made against Ms. Agama for the seizure of an undisclosed amount of money. PREMIUM TIMES learned that there were indications the money seized by the court was found recently with Mrs. Alison-Madueke as the National Crime Agency applied for the seizure within 48 hours. PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively reported the arrest of Mrs. Alison-Madueke alongside four others in London on Friday, for offences related to bribery, corruption and money laundering. An overview of the Proceeds of Crime Act says “The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (“POCA”) sets out the legislative scheme for the recovery of criminal assets with criminal confiscation being the most commonly used power. “Confiscation occurs after a conviction has taken place. Other means of recovering the proceeds of crime which do not require a conviction are provided for in the Act, namely civil recovery, cash seizure and taxation powers. “The aim of the asset recovery schemes in POCA is to deny criminals the use of their assets, recover the proceeds of crime and disrupt and deter criminality. “Since 2010, more than £746 million of criminal assets has been seized (to 2013/14) across all four methods of recovery – a record amount. “Over the same period, assets worth more than £2.5 billion have been frozen denying criminals access to these resources and £93 million has been returned to victims,” said a factsheet.
