poor boy loved a rich girl. One day the boy proposed to her and the girl said, "Hey! Listen, your monthly salary is my daily hand expenses. How can I be involved with you? How could you have thought of that? I can never love you. So, forget about me & get engaged to someone else at your level". But somehow the boy could not forget her so easily. Sometime 10 years later, they stumbled into each other in a shopping mall. The lady said, "Hey! You! How are you? Now I'm married and do you know how much my husband's salary is? $1,700 per month! Can you believe that? And he is also very smart." The guy's eyes got wet with tears on hearing those words. A few seconds later, her husband came but before the lady could say a word, her husband seeing the guy, said, "Sir you're here? Meet my wife." Then he said to his wife, "This is my boss, I'm also one of those working on his $100 million project. And do you know a fact my dear? My boss loved a lady but he couldn't win her heart. That's why he has remained unmarried. How lucky would that lady have been if she had married him. These days, who will love someone that much he said to his wife. The lady looked in total shock but couldn't utter a word. Life is so short and it's just like a mirror. You can only see as much as it reflects. So don't be too arrogant and proud of yourself by looking down on people because situations change with time! Don't under estimate anyone, cos everyone has potential!. |

One of the most tragic stories from the ill-fated flight Dana Air 992 that crashed in Lagos on Sunday revolves around Maimuna Anyene, a Connecticut-based Nigerian woman, who died along with her husband, sister, her four kids, two cousins and her mother, Mrs. Mijindadi./p> Ms. Anyene, who is being mourned by friends, relatives and colleagues around the world, was described by several sources as having a boisterous laughter, a happy spirit and an infectiously cheerful disposition. One of the late woman’s spirits closest friends captured her spirits. “When Maimuna laughed, she was always loud, joyful, and even crazy in the good sense. She laughed spontaneously and excitedly. It was a full-of-life kind of laughter that seemed to come from deep within her belly. She laughed without inhibitions. She was pretty and had cute dimples that made her round face memorable.” Maimuna was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ndanusa and Birikisu Mijindadi on July 30, 1979. Her father, from Bida, Niger State, was a professor at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Her mother had worked for a few years as a nurse in the United States before returning to Nigeria where she began and ran several enterprises, including a large grape farm in Zaria. Maimuna attended primary school in Zaria and completed secondary school at Queens College, Lagos. She proceeded to the University of Ibadan, where she studied Economics, graduating in 2001 with a Second Class (Upper) degree. At UI, she made many friends, staying close to several of them years beyond her university days. One friend said she stood out as the most studious in her circle of friends. “Maimuna was the one who talked to her friends to focus on their academic work whenever she found them in danger of getting too distracted by the many temptations of student life,” said the friend. “No surprise that we called her ‘effico,’ a nickname for nerds and bookworms. It meant she was efficient in organizing her study and play time. She was diligent and hardworking, and simply never lost sight of her priorities.” Another friend said she fondly remembered how she and others called Maimuna “effico.” “It was a term of endearment but also a playful kind of derision. We derided her for keeping us honest by enforcing group discipline. And, at last, we cherished her for keeping us honest that some of us graduated with honors from Ibadan and other universities.” On graduating from UI, Maimuna returned to Zaria for a few months before heading to Lagos for the mandatory one year stint as a member of the National Youth Service Corps. She served with Citibank in Lagos. Maimuna was married to Onyeka Anyene, a lawyer who has offices in Abuja and Lagos. Friends described the marriage as one founded on religious tolerance and broadmindedness. A devout Muslim, Maimuna married Mr. Anyene, a Christian. A few friends disclosed that Maimuna’s parents were at first reluctant to approve their daughter’s choice of husband-to-be. Even so, Maimuna and Onyeka displayed their determination by heading for the Marriage Registry in Ikoyi, Lagos to solemnise their wedding. The ceremony was marked by a simplicity that was characteristic of the couple; it was witnessed only by three persons: a close friend of Maimuna’s from her U.I. days, and a couple who were friends of the groom. A relative said Maimuna was a woman of great professional ambitions who was willing to work hard to prepare for the realization of her dreams. This led her to Pennsylvania State University in the United States where she earned a Masters degree. In 2005, she relocated to Connecticut and lived there until her death in the Dana Airlines crash. Ms. Anyene and her husband had four children: Kamsi (two-years old), twins Kayna and Kayne (one-year-old), and Kamal, also known as Noah (seven-months-old). One friend in Connecticut recalled how “Maimuna loved to take pictures, to capture every memorable moment on film whenever possible.” One source said she had traveled to Nigeria to visit with her husband, who lived mostly in Nigeria. “She also went to attend the wedding of her younger brother, Ndako, scheduled to take place in about a week’s time – on June 9,” added the source. http://www.punchng.com/news/unusual-love-story-of-couple-killed-in-crash/

The police in Ogun State on Sunday said an armed robbery suspect was mistakenly shot dead by his colleague during a robbery in the Ogijo area of the state. The police also said they had dislodged a cult group from the Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu, and arrested two suspects. The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said three suspected robbers had broken into the house of one Mojeed Jamiu and attempted to rob him when one of them mistakenly killed their colleague. Adejobi, an assistant superintendent of police, said in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, that following the accidental discharge which instantly killed one of them, the two others fled the scene, leaving their colleague’s corpse behind. The PPRO said the police had taken the corpse to the mortuary of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu. He said, “An armed robber misfires colleague: On Saturday, 2nd June at about 1300 hours, one Mojeed Jamiu ‘M’ of Ogijo area of Ogun State came to the station and reported that on June 1, 2012, at about 1300 hours, three armed men came to his house to rob him. “Fortunately for Mojeed, one of the robbers misfired a colleague of his while the robbery operation was on. The body of the robber has since been deposited at OSUTH mortuary. “One locally-made double-barrelled gun and three expended cartridges were recovered from the scene by a team led by SP Toyin Afolaogun, DPO Ogijo. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing ones.” Concerning the dislodgment of the cult group from the College of Health Technology, the statement further stated that the police had arrested a 400 level student of the institution, Musediku Idris, and a female suspect, Bilikisu Jimoh, said to be a “non-student.” The police added that the cooperation of the school management with the security agencies made the dislodgement of the cult group possible. They promised to uproot cultism from the various institutions of learning and the other places where the menace might still be existing, saying, “All hands are on deck to fight against cult activities in Ogun State. Police Arrest Nigerian Facebook Scam Artist Nnamadi conspired with other foreigners to lure Thai women, wanting foreign husbands CHIANGRAI TIMES – The Royal Thai Police have arrested a Nigerian man Smith Nnamadi for allegedly duping a Thai woman into sending him tens of thousands of baht after leading her to believe he wanted to marry her. The arrest of Nigerian Smith Nnamadi, 34, at a Bangkok department store, came after a woman, whose name was withheld, complained to police that he had allegedly lured her to send him money under false pretenses. The woman claimed that she knew the suspect via Facebook under name of Joe Henry, a British. They became lovers and Nnamadi proposed marriage after chatting via the network for two months. The suspect claimed he wished to bring in a Bt3million dowry but could not afford the fee of Bt321,560, so he asked her to help. The victim wired him Bt74,560 but Henry said he needed more. That made her suspicious and she turned to the police. A sting operation was set up at a local mall, where the Nigerian suspect came to pick up the money. The police investigation found that Nnamadi conspired with other foreigners to lure Thai women, wanting foreign husbands, via MSN, Facebook and online websites to dupe them into sending money. Police will hunt for his accomplices. http://www.chiangraitimes.com/news/7489.html |
By Ola Ajayi, Ibadan Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has described the protests that greeted the re-naming of the University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University as uncalled for, saying President Goodluck Jonathan’s action was “a reward of remembrance to our heroes past”. The Yoruba body said this just as it called on the Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, to be on red alert to prevent the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, from making incursion into Yoruba territory. These were contained in a communique issued at the end of its National Executive Council meeting held in Ibadan on Friday. The communique signed by the National Treasurer of the Council, Dr. Dejo Raimi, read, ”our civil defense mechanism such as OPC in the South-West should remain very alert in case of unimaginable spill over to any Yoruba nation”. ”We sympathize with the people that lost their lives and property in the Boko Haram episode and we advise our brothers in the North to tighten up their internal security so as to ensure the menace does not do much damage to life and property”. The council also called on the Federal Government to review the security system in the country and make lives of people more secure so that investors who would not be doubtful about investing in the country. On the deplorable condition of Lagos-Ibadan expressway, YCE made a fresh call on the Federal Government to give urgent attention to the road. A United States-based Nigerian, Emeka Mazie, on Wednesday dragged his 96-year-old father to court for insisting to re-marry after the demise of his wife eight years ago. The suit with number HU/54/2012 filed before the Umuahia High Court 4, is presided over by Justice Agwu Kalu. Counsel to the defendant, Ebere Orji, told the court that her client, Israel Mazie, (father of Emeka), had contracted a marriage with Ebere Ndubuka under the Marriage Act, maintaining that the plaintiff (only son of Israel) with his sisters was duly informed before the marriage was contracted. On the other hand, the Counsel to the Plaintiff, Ann Uchendu, told the court that Israel and Ndubuka had yet to consummate their marriage traditionally, noting the defendants secretly obtained a marriage certificate from Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. Israel told the court that his decision to re-marry was to get somebody to cook and assist him in keeping the compound clean. “Since my wife died eight years ago, nobody cooks or assists in cleaning the compound for me. All my children live in America,” he claimed. The plaintiff told the court that he received with shock the plans of his father to re-marry at his age. He said: “if my father must get another wife, he ought to discuss it with me.” The Judge on listening to both counsel urged the parties to respect the views of each other, noting that at the plaintiff’s age he would never wish away his first son or the son abandon the father. Kalu added that resorting to alternative dispute resolution became imperative as there was no serious dispute to judge on the case. He adjourned the matter to October 24 for report on settlement. Letter of appreciation from MKO Abiola’s family to President Jonathan! Your Excellency, We wish to publicly offer our profound appreciation for your unprecedented recognition of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the ideals he lived by and the noble cause he died for. As you honoured him, we honour you. We have watched in dismay and bafflement, the futile efforts of previous governments to bury the uncommon heroism of MKO Abiola. While looking ahead to your plans to shepherd this nation, you looked behind to acknowledge those you paved the path you now tread. Many sing by rote, the words “the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain” while you embody that principle. Your labour over our country will never be in vain, by the grace of the Almighty Allah. As our leader, you chose the time and manner that you would honour this great Nigerian. It was without our input but with our full approval. His sacrifices and contributions across every sphere of public life are too numerous to list. There has never been a philanthropist on the scale of MKO Abiola in the history of Nigeria. His oft-repeated life’s ambition was to touch the life of every Nigerian one way or another. He may have succeeded in the area of education alone. In March 1990, he donated N1m (equivalent of N40 million in 2010) to each State University, N50,000 (N2 million in 2010) to each Federal University for student welfare, N20,000 (N800,000 in 2010) to the libraries of each Federal University and N25,000 (N1 million in 2010) to each Polytechnic and College of Education. He is credited with the construction of 63 secondary schools and 41 libraries. He established Abiola Bookshops to provide affordable, locally produced textbooks in the 1980s when imported textbooks became out of the reach of ordinary Nigerians when the Naira was devalued. He awarded over 1,000 scholarships to deserving students in tertiary institutions at home and abroad. In addition those awarded by the Federal Government, MKO Abiola awarded bursaries to every single student from Ogun State. For every N500 they received from the Federal government, they received N250 from MKO Abiola. To delve into his contributions in sports, culture and welfare would turn this letter into a thesis. In politics as in philanthropy, he is unequalled. He broke tribal and religious barriers to a clear victory. He chose the path of valour and fought for the collective will of Nigerians from the four corners of this nation and everywhere in between. He willingly returned from exile, knowing the consequences of that action, prepared to pay with his life. The circumstances of his death shook the polity to its foundations and established the democracy we enjoy today, by far the longest period of rule by the people in our history. He lost his wife, the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, his businesses were decimated yet he voluntarily stayed in detention, rejecting conditional release. He died refusing to betray the mandate given to him by those who betray his memory today. No honour is too great for one of the men and women who laid down their lives for the democracy we enjoy today, that enables some to take to the streets, uttering irresponsible, abhorrent nonsense. We take a leaf from your book and illustrate the line “help our youth the truth to know”. The government of Egypt named a school after him in appreciation of his contribution after a devastating earthquake. Egyptians did not take to the street yet to their eternal shame, some people in Lagos did. But as the great man would say, as one is crying one should still see. The machinations and motives of those sponsoring the protests are obvious. If thirteen years of deafening silence from the Federal Government built on the blood of this man could not diminish his legacy, the actions of a few hooligans and rascals with no sense of history will certainly not. All glory and honour reside in the hands of the Almighty Allah, a righteous judge. MKO Abiola will not be denied. We now turn to those groups who feel that their positions have been threatened by an unprecedented act of grace by Your Excellency and urge them to desist. The general elections are three years away. There is no need for blind panic or for using MKO Abiola’s name and the larger issue of June 12th to score cheap political points against the ruling party. We urge them to focus on the task of national and regional development. We assure you of our support of any decision you take in this matter. We had no expectation of your gracious gesture and neither did MKO Abiola. He was driven by his love for Nigeria, not by the anticipation of honours. The few words you spoke provided justice and peace. No “masthead” can ever do that. We are satisfied and we are appreciative. You have acted as one who fears God and seeks to lead in justice and truth according to His will. In the final analysis and in view of the fickleness and short memory of some “students”, that is all that matters. We conclude with the assurance that your honouree would not be disturbed by this furore were he alive to witness it. When we would tell him we don’t like his nickname of Father Christmas and ask him why he gives so much, he would say that he is not doing it for the people but for Allah and that if he helps a thousand people and only one remembers that’s enough for him. It is enough for us too as is the certain fact that in due course, each of us will go where MKO Abiola has gone and leave children behind. With profound gratitude, Alhaji (Chief) Mubashiru Abiola Chief (Mrs) Adebisi Abiola Chief (Mrs.) Omolola Abiola – Edewor Alhaji Olalekan Abiola Miss Ayobami Abiola Alhaji Jamiu Abiola Mrs Bolanle Akande Mr Abdul Abiola http://solakuti.com/letter-of-appreciation-from-mkos-family-to-president-jonathan/ |

Hello everyone, pls I need ur advice about this. My brother is an Insurance graduate and has been working for over 7 years now in an insurance company in Lagos. He has married with 2 kids and living in rented apartment in Lagos. He has two Sa visa on his e-passport and he has visited twice. He wants to study his post graduate in either US or Canada, but he is confused of where is the best to study it. Secondly, which school do u think they offer cheap post graduate in insurance? And must he pay the full tuition before he can be given visa? Does it necessary to apply with his family or he should apply alone? Someone said it is not compulsory for him to pay any tuition fee in US but only registration fee and can be granted visa, how true is this? If at all he apply to any school for post graduate course, he is 37 years old, can he be sponsored by individual at his age because he is 37 years old. Or he must be sponsored at work? And like how much must the sponsor have in the account? |
