Well, it's not realistic to make the claim you're making.
No way 15L will take you for a week driving 30mins everyday.
It's not a question of traffic jam or not. It's just not realistic
I guess I am lucky with my car... cheesy

Walk into any fast food place, restaurant, store etc today and see ads everywhere “we’re hiring for immediate start, apply and start today”.

Many of these companies are all paying at least $15/hr and even offering other incentives like education grants because workers are scarce. Some states are even passing legislation to reduce the legal work age and allow children to work because there is shortage of workers

You go into a store and out of 9 store registers, only 2 are operational because there are no staff to hire

I already mentioned that unemployment rate was 3.6%, companies are struggling to find and even retain workers

So what does “Those $15 jobs don’t come every time” mean?
After all said and done, what do you have at the end of the day. That's all that matters.

A 6plug engine is a V6 engine. 9k fuel ~15L can't take you on a 30 minutes drive everyday for a week. Take it to the bank. Even if you don't empty your tank, the fact remains you can't use 9k fuel a week with a V6 engine. So you're simply lying.
My V6 engine which I drive for a ten minute drive to work everyday, and other places of less than 15minutes consume 50 litres fuel in 2 weeks. And it's a toyota. If its Honda, it will be worse.
Well, that's what I do per week. Take it or leave it. There is no traffic jam here.

Just last Saturday, I bought 10k fuel and it's going to take me till this Saturday by God's grace.

Why call him a liar?

The minimum wage he quoted up there is for vacation work teens. Minimum wage is $15+ per hour.
My mind was on monthly pay not hourly job.

Oga I don't know whether it's Carina2 you're driving but no decent car will drive 24minutes everyday due seven days on 15l of fuel. What you're claiming is that your car will drive for 4hrs with 15l which gives 4litres per hour.
Dats a description fir a golf2 or carina2 and you're claiming you're living fine. Suffer don master you.
Go and upgrade your life bros.
I use a 6-plug vehicle

Also, did I tell you I empty my tank every week or even allow it to flash yellowhuh

9k fuel takes me for the week. I am doing well to the glory of God. cool

The same north that has over 10m children out of school?
That's why I'm asking where you stay so I can burst your lie.
9k is just about 12litres now which is less than one third of a 60L tank. What kind of car are you using and where are your driving to that you use just around 12litres of fuel in a whole week. Lie will not kill you o.
When is the soon? Can you give a period to look forward to and what are the benefits to expect?
I do 12 minutes from home to work. I could get to 90km/h speed.

Mind you, I don't stay in the core north.

Where in the North do you stay? You're staying in the North were basic standard facilities and amenities are missing and where almajiris litter the streets and you're arguing nonsense. Do you realise North house the larger percentage of poor in Nigeria?
The north is even worse than anywhere else.

So, the plan is to make people adjust to suffering. What kind of people are we in this country? Why can't they adjust to a better life but to suffering?.

People leave because nothing is certain of getting better in Nigeria. For example, someone earning 500K in January and using a V6 engine will spend an average of 50k on fuel in a month. Now, that same person will spend almost 200k on fuel. Not only that, 500k in January was $1020 but it is mere $625 now.
Is his life getting better or getting worse?
Stop saying what you don't know.

North is okay depending on where you stay. I don't have a generator. The roads are okay.

Currently, I do 9k per week on fuel.

Price of stuffs have not really gone up.

The current hardship is just for a shortwhile. Very soon, we shall start enjoying the benefits of these policies.

Hello Nairalanders,

I have this decision bothering me. I know it is a personal problem, but I believe everyone need some guidance at every point in life.

Straight to it, I have been considering Japa for over two years now and I think the opportunity might be here but I am having a cold feet.

I recently started working for a foreign company as a software engineer and the pay is decent when converted to Naira. Enough to live an averagely comfortable life. But my challenge now is that, I have been talking to some friends that are outside the country and they keep telling me how life is not easy there and cost of living is super expensive out there.

I currently earn $3000, which I plan to either save and travel or startup a business here in Nigeria. Please, Nairalanders with experience, is it worth japa to live an almost average life for almost the rest of your life or investing here in Nigeria and growing wealth?

The healthcare and quality education benefit is there as an advantage for japa though.

Thanks in advance for your responses!
USD3000 is more valuable in Nigeria than the US.

This should help you make a good decision

Those stats are false, I insist.

Unemployment rate in the US is 3.6% so if you want 40hrs or more, you’ll get it.
It's unlikely. People(Most citizens) are fed up of working and would rather just collect stipends from the govt.
But then Nigerians are not the only immigrants that can fill in the gap. Mexicans are more likely to take the jobs.

You're lying. You're claiming people who do driver jobs have farms. Where? In Lagos or Abuja? Or port Harcourt?
If standard of living in Nigeria is so good, why are people running away from the country?
Do you know how many people have been rendered jobless by this subsidy removal? Mechanics, Gen repairers, transporters are now sitting idle in their shops and garages. Are those not the people in the informal economy?
Yet you're here defending evil with lies
I am not. I stay in the north. Life is easy here.

People will adjust with time. The pains are going to temporary.

Those leaving are just keeping up with the joneses and/or are out to send foreign currency home.

What’s the relevance of this caveat? If you don’t get 40hours on the job you get another job. People do multiple jobs all the time
The relevance is that you are not sure of earning that 1,160 per month for sure.

It’s simple math not rocket science. Minimum wage is $7.25/hr federally but many states have higher minimum wages

If you work 40 hours a week x 4 weeks a month, that’s $1,160

Wrong. The tax rate of someone on minimum wage in the US is about 10% not 45% as you’re insinuating

So if you make $1,160 you pay about $116 in tax. Note that this is just the minimum wage, most companies pay much higher than that. I can say most people earning that low are probably students who are doing their first job in a restaurant or something like that

Don’t forget also that Nigeria has the highest unemployment in the world currently
You are a liar! Minimum wage in US can NEVER be USD1,160

During the corona era, the highest palliative Trump dished out was USD600 and it was considered much cheesy

Back to my point, after you pay all your insurance bills and mortgages, more than half of your salary is gone! cheesy

He will pay monthly house rent of about USD500

50kg bag of is about N45K. which is 22.5% of the guy's salary and about N900 per kilo.

I presently buy that same quality of our Nigerian foreign rice at £1.25 per kilo though they are cheaper option one can buy a kilo of rice for 52pence at Tesco.

Now to afford to buy that same 50kg quantity here in the UK, I need only to work about 5hrs to earn it but it is almost a week's income for the Nigerian guy.
Are you earning like a driver/gateman in the UKhuh

Why are you comparing yourself with drivers and gatemen in Nigeriahuh

Nevertheless, these people get tips and have farms and other business concerns which helps them get by. You don't have that luxury in the UK

One must really be very heartless to support Tinubu. If they mention other oil producing countries in Africa where fuel is still dirtcheap due to subsidy, you will start making another blind argument. Check Libya, Egypt, Angola, Equitorial Guinea etc and compare fuel price with Nigeria.

An American on minimum wage earns close to a million naira per month and spends only 900 per litre of fuel. But Nigerian on minimum wage earns a measly 30,000 & spends 600 per litre on fuel. The American has no need to buy fuel for generator use at home or business but Nigerian has to do so everyday!

At the end of the day, the American spends less than 2% of his earnings on fuel while the Nigerian spends half of his earnings on fuel, just for car and generator!

It doesn't stop the Nigerian minimum wage earner from paying high phcn bills despite using generator for most of the time or staying in darkness.

Nigeria is hell, and anyone still supporting these evil politicians are worse than the devil.
Power issues depend on where you stay in Nigeria

I don't have a generator because I don't need one.

My power bill in a month is 7k at most when the children are on holiday. It is less during school period.

Minimum wage of 30 does not mean the gateman/driver is earning 30k. 30k is the basic salary. These people usually live close to work or at work etc They have a way of mitigating transportation costs.
