Sports betting is the activity of predicting sports results and placing a wager on the outcome. The New Premier League season is here! If you are one who is into sports betting you actually have a chance to win if you like wagering on soccer activities. I would like to give some tips on what to predict when wagering on the English Premier League this weekend. ARSENAL VERSUS CRYSTAL PALACE This Saturday evening Arsenal host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium in their opening Premier League match. Kick off 17:30 BST. Arsenal will be hoping to build on last season’s FA Cup victory and after the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona they will also be looking to improve on last season, where they finished in 4th place on 79 pts. Arsenal’s recent record at the Emirates reads a very strong looking W10, D5, L0. When playing the mid table sides, Arsenal’s record again reads a fairly solid looking W7, D2, L1. Palace have a poor record away to the elite sides and I would probably look to avoid the match line. The NO on both teams to score certainly looks of interest and has been seen in 10 of Arsenals last 15 home games and in 11 of Palaces last 15 away games. I recommend you place a bet on under 3.5 goals in the match. LIVERPOOL VERSUS SOUTHAMPTON This Sunday afternoon Liverpool host Southampton in the opening game of the season at Anfield, Kick off 13:30 BST. Liverpool were extremely unlucky not to win the Premier League title last time out and they ended the season in 2nd place on 84pts after 38 matches, just 2 points behind champions Manchester City. Liverpool boast a very strong home record which reads W13, D1, L1. The recent head-to-head record at Anfield reads Liverpool 1 wins, 0 draws and Southampton 1 win. This could be a tough season for Southampton who have lost the majority of last season’s first team through the transfer market. Last season Southampton performed exceptionally well and they finished in 8th place on 56 pts. Southampton’s recent away record reads W5, D4, L6. When facing the Premier League top sides, Southampton’s away record reads a very mediocre looking W1, D1, L8 In summary this is an extremely interesting matchup, made even more so by the possible participation of 3 ex Southampton players. The 2 previous league games played at Anfield have been fairly tight affairs and my ratings suggest that there is just the slightest of value in backing Southampton on the handicap. My ratings also suggest value in looking for Southampton to score and they have found the net in 8 of their last 10 away to the Premier League elite sides. Liverpool have conceded in 11 of their last 15 home games where both teams have scored in 10 matches. Both teams to score can be backed at around 2.05 and this offers some value and somy recommended trade for this match is Both Teams to Score NEWCASTLE VERSUS MANCHESTER CITY This Sunday afternoon sees a very interesting opening day fixture when Newcastle host champions Manchester City at St James’ Park, Kick Off 16:00 BST. Newcastle had a very up and down season last time around and they finished in a very disappointing 10th place on 49 pts. This will have been very frustrating for the Newcastle fans, as around the New Year Newcastle were looking real contenders for a European place. Newcastle’s recent record at St James’ reads an average looking W7, D1, L7. When playing against the Premier League elite sides, Newcastle’s record reads a disappointing looking W2, D2, L6. The recent head-to-head record at St James’ certainly favours the away side and reads Newcastle 0 Wins, 0 Draws and Manchester City 4 wins. Manchester City were crowned champions last season, finishing top on 86 pts after 38 matches. Due to the Financial Fair Play rules they have been unusually quiet in the transfer market. However they will still be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. Manchester City’s recent away form reads a strong looking W9, D3, L3. When facing teams of Newcastle’s stature Manchester City’s record reads again a strong looking W7, D2, L1. As far as goals are concerned then there are some mixed stats. When looking at both sides last 15 respective home and away games. In the 30 matches, 9 games have seen 4 or more goals, 8 games have seen 3 goals scored and 13 have seen 2 or less goals scored. Looking at the goal line, there are just too many mixed stats to make a judgement. According to my ratings Manchester City offer some value here and looking at their recent record at St James’ I recommend you place a bet on Manchester City to win on a -1 Handicap. culled from http://zealnote.com/sports-betting-weekend-premiership-matches/

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will use Reds owner John Henry's private jet this week to ensure that he arrives back in plenty of time for Saturday's first Merseyside derby of the season. Suarez is on international duty in Uruguay ahead of their World Cup play-off decider with Jordan tonight, which kicks off at 11pm GMT in Montevideo. With the Reds due at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime Henry has decided to let Suarez use his personal aircraft to make the long trip back to Liverpool on Thursday morning, according to The Mirrro. Henry's private jet will fly from Boston to Uruguay to bring Suarez back home a day earlier than originally expected, giving him time to reacclimatise and prepare to face the Toffees. The 26-year-old has been in fine form at Anfield this season since returning from suspension, scoring eight times in six Premier League games. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/brechin-city/news/liverpool-owner-offers-suarez-private-jet_118841.html |
(MoneyWatch) Yesterday, listed five things successful people do after 5 p.m. (a spinoff of the popular Forbes.com piece about things those same people do before 8 p.m.) But what about behaviors that can negatively impact your chances for success? In other words, what are the things that effective employees and executives don’t do as the work day winds down? Here are four. 1. They don’t stay at work all night. Effective executives take some time to recharge each evening, said Julie Morgenstern, author of “Time Management From the Inside Out.” And they don’t just try to turn off their smartphone — they actually schedule quality personal time. “First, they set an alarm to get out of the office on time. Then, they schedule something fun, relaxing or rejuvenating after work, whether it’s an exercise class, meeting with a trainer, dinner with friends or family, etc.,” said Morgenstern. 2. They don’t go straight home. If you go directly home from a long work day to a busy home life, you can still feel like you’re at work — or at least, your mind is — when you’re trying to recharge. So avoid answering work emails or speaking to clients on your ride home. “Successful people implement some sort of mindful transition between workday and home — music, a walk, a visit to the gym — something that signals [the] workday is over,” Morgenstern said. Even listening to music or a podcast, or reading a book, on your commute can ease that transition. 3. They work through stress in healthy ways. Capping off a long day at the office with more than one stiff drink may not be a good idea, said efficiency expert Andrew Jensen. “Successful people strive for self-control and don’t try to temporarily drown out the stresses of life through excessive drinking,” he said. After all, nobody ever said that hangovers helped them perform better. 4. They don’t excuse other unhealthy habits. “Very successful people don’t neglect their bodies by fueling with junk food or by rationalizing they are too busy or too tired for exercise,” Jensen said. That’s not to say that there aren’t great executives who have climbed the corporate ladder fueled by the vending machine and late-night food orders. But being unhealthy hardly makes it easy to function at your highest level. Plus, companies generally like their executives to look fit and attractive. So if you won’t make healthy choices for your health, do it for your career. http://zealnote.com/2013/10/29/4-things-successful-people-dont-do-after-5-p-m/ |
A Los Angeles School district is stunned that kids given iPads to take home manage to hack the security controls. So, well, it's stopped giving them out. "Hey, kids. We've got great news. You're going to be doing your homework on cool new iPads. Isn't that great?" "Wooooooo!" "One thing, though, kids. You can't surf the Web on them willy-nilly. So please don't try and hack the security controls." How could anything possibly go wrong with this fine, modern plan of the Los Angeles Unified School District? Well, as the Los Angeles Times reports, quite a bit. It took not very long at all for 300 kids at Theodore Roosevelt High School to hack their way through the security controls and make merry. It seems that this was not terribly hard. All they did was delete all their personal information and the iPad suddenly became a normal, everyday, surfing iPad. One student explained the motivation behind the kids' behavior. (As if it needed explaining.) A senior at Roosevelt High, Alfredo Garcia, told KTLA-TV that the unlocking had happened because "they took them home and they can't do anything with them." "Doing something with them" means going on Facebook, Twitter, Pandora and, you know, some of those other sites that kids enjoy. It's a wonder that no one in the school district anticipated such actions. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that there may now be a halt to the wholesale distribution of the iPads, which was originally intended to ensure every kid had an iPad within a year. It's possible that tougher security programs might have to be inserted, or, perhaps Web-capabilities entirely deleted. I have a better idea. Perhaps they could also get the kids to teach a class once a week on, you know, computers and security. It would surely be edifying for the teaching staff. www.zealnote.com |
“ ………… an order from a Nigerian individual for 53 gold iPhones to mark the country’s 53rd year of independence from Britain next month.” someone to please talk to that nigerian cos this is too much na. A Bristol-born businessman based in Dubai is bracing himself for a flood of orders for iPhones clad not in the gold-effect finish of the new iPhone 5S, but the real stuff. Amjad Ali supplies royal families and minted customers across Russia, China and the Middle East with gold-plated devices that cost up to £50,000. The 42-year-old entrepreneur, who grew up in Glasgow, has pre-ordered hundreds of new iPhones. His team at Gold and Co. will set to work the day after launch before delivering the devices to luxury retailers. “We strip the units down and then plate them in copper, nickel and then pure gold,” he told The Independent. “We have limited units per region and each is numbered and placed in a handmade wooden box with a certificate of authenticity and wax seal.” Ali typically delivers 50 devices a month, including Blackberries and iPads, but orders rose to more than 300 a month when the iPhone 5 was launched last year. The firm expects greater demand still for the sixth-generation device, announced today. Gold and Co.’s customers have included the Saudi royal family, which, Ali says, ordered a gold iPhone studded with hundreds of diamonds, including a giant piece that served as the device’s “home” button. The bill: £50,000. Basic models in gold or rose gold cost from £3,000. Ali says he is fulfilling an order from a Nigerian individual for 53 gold iPhones to mark the country’s 53rd year of independence from Britain next month. “We will engrave them with the coat of arms, a shield and two horses,” he said. The company has also supplied an engraved gold iPad to each of the rooms at the luxury “six-star” Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. For the new iPhone, Ali has added a platinum option to the gold and rose gold currently offered. “Muslim men are not supposed to wear gold,” he explains. “We had government departments for example cancelling orders so now we’re launching platinum to tap into a huge market. Most importantly, it’s a third colour. Everyone wants to be different.” In an earlier version of this article, the founder of Gold and Co. claimed the Nigerian Government had ordered 53 gold iPhones. He now informs Independent Online that the order in fact came from an individual in Nigeria. We are happy to make this correction culled from http://zealnote.com/2013/09/13/nigerian-ordered-for-53-gold-iphone-5s-each-costing-50000/

Moritz Erhardt was 21 when he was found dead after working for three straight days as an intern for Bank of America in London. For now, what caused his death is unknown. But some reports have, fairly or not, implicated the intense work culture at the financial giant, which required exceedingly long hours. B of A isn’t unique in this respect — a grinding schedule is common in the the City of London, London’s financial district. It may turn out that this had nothing to do with Erhardt’s death, but that the company’s work culture is widely assumed to be responsible tells you what you need to know about working in The City. Having talked to many corporate interns at summer programs like the one Erhardt was in at B of A, several things are clear: 1. The interns believe they are in a competition for a few coveted spots. 2. They also believe that hours are correlated with productivity. 3. Their bosses believe that hours are correlated with loyalty and commitment. 4. Everyone thinks the system efficiently rewards the strong and weeds out the weak. Let’s examine each of those assumptions. Competition. Not all the interns will get jobs. Some might rationally decide that this kind of working environment is not for them. Internships ought to be a two-way experiment in which both the firm and the individual assess one another. Where this isn’t the case — where companies abuse their dominant position in a tight job market — the employers are at fault. They should know how to run an intelligent, adult internship program. If anything, they should strive to moderate the sense of hope, panic and fear that these programs inspire. Hours. Ever since the first productivity studies were conducted a hundred years ago, we have known that the number of hours people work do not correlate with productivity. After about 40 hours a week, human beings get tired and make mistakes. Extra hours are used to clear up messes, not produce great new work. If, as reported, Erhardt pulled several all-nighters in a row, this might not have killed him, but it would certainly have made him intellectually useless. Missing just one night’s sleep is equivalent to being over the alcohol limit, yet corporate culture tends to treat over-workers as if they were heroes, not drunks. Loyalty and commitment. Firms that measure engagement by hours are living in the stone age. If you want a truly outstanding employee, you need that person to have time and energy to think, time off to absorb new information and have ideas. Even professional athletes now fully recognize that high performance isn’t about doing one thing remorselessly, but mixing it up. It’s about time corporations brought the same level of finesse to their people that the best educated coaches bring to theirs. Strength versus weakness. Competition doesn’t reward the strong and weed out the week. It rewards the obedient, the compliant and the unimaginative. It imposes tunnel vision and an addiction to rewards. If you seriously want a company full of thinking, sentient, smart people who have a long future ahead of them, then a competitive culture isn’t what you want. Nor are headlines like these. Everyone hates to negotiate. That’s because it is hard, makes people uncomfortable and somehow can feel unsavory, as if we should all be above arguing about money. As a result, many of us pay too much for a car and don’t understand how to haggle at a flea market. But your salary is negotiable as well, and getting this wrong can have expensive implications for the rest of your life. So it can literally pay to get it right. Not everyone has a ton of salary flexibility. Especially among larger businesses, raises are not especially negotiable; they are calculated by accountants and delivered with annual review results. But if you work for a smaller company — either full time or as a 1099 freelancer — you might have some wiggle room. LinkedIn recently published an excellent list of things not to say during a salary negotiation: I’m sorry. This one tops the list because we’re all apologetic about even broaching money. Never start a conversation about salary with an apology like, “I’m sorry I need to ask about this but….” It automatically transfers power to the employer and suggests that you’re not committed to the conversation. Yes. Don’t say yes to the first offer — the whole idea of a negotiation is that you will negotiate. In the same way that a car dealer doesn’t reveal the best price when you walk in the door, your employer has some room to negotiate and can probably offer you better numbers than what he or she starts with. Push back on the initial offer. No. Don’t say “no” outright, since it is a conversation ender. Look for a way to move forward. For instance, ask if there are non-salary alternatives, such as benefits, or what is standing in the company’s way of paying what you are asking for. Keep the conversation moving forward. www.zealnote.com |
Although it’s still tough in this economy to find employment after graduating from college, half of new grads end up finding jobs that they like. That requires avoiding common career mistakes, according to David Delong, author of “Graduate to a Great Job: Make Your College Degree Pay Off in Today’s Market.” Delong, a former career-planning researcher at Harvard Business School, says recent college grads are often confused by the following job-search fallacies: 1. I can do my entire job search online. We’ve all heard the lament of job-seekers who complain that they have applied to hundreds of jobs without a nibble. Simply responding to job postings on the Internet is highly unlikely to get a job. Keep in mind that many jobs are never even advertised online. “The activities most likely to make you successful — face-to-face networking, strong interviewing skills and challenging internships — have little to do with the Internet,” Delong says. 2. I’ve got to start out in the right field or I’m doomed. Nonsense. For one, odds are that college grads will change jobs within two years, and that job will likely be in a different industry. “The fluidity of today’s economy makes assumptions about linear career development obsolete,” Delong says. “Find an interesting opportunity where you will learn a lot and dive in.” 3. Liberal arts majors don’t get jobs. Employers aren’t just looking for students with specialized degrees. Employers are interested in new hires who can think critically, are great communicators and have demonstrated leadership. Your major will be less important if you have shown these skills through extracurricular activities and internships and convey your abilities in an interview. An employer survey released this year by theAssociation of American Colleges and Universities suggests that employers want recent college graduates to be broadly educated. Ninety-three percent said that a demonstrated capacity to think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems is more important than a job candidate’s undergraduate degree. 4. I can get a job in a cool field. “A lot of students dream of working in ‘cool’ fields without understanding the dynamics of how careers evolve in that profession,” Delong observes. For instance, there are plenty of journalism students at the University of Texas who think they can stay in Austin and get a journalism job. In journalism, however, students typically start in smaller markets and must work their way up while moving to different communities. 5. My college career services center is lame. Campus career centers vary in how helpful they are, but students shouldn’t assume that they can only be counted on for reviewing resumes. College students should explore what their career center can do for them, and they shouldn’t wait until their senior year. Services that a good center should provide include: Career counseling, aptitude testing, resume writing, practice interviews, job postings, alumni networking and career fairs 6. It’s going to be harder than you think. Too many students think they can find a job if they start looking after Christmas break in their senior year. Wrong. You need to lay the groundwork long before then. The search can be time-consuming, but it will be well worth it. www.zealnote.com |
Every divorce has unique circumstances that can directly influence the outcome, including who earns more, who gets custody of the children, or if one spouse has made a considerable financial contribution to the other’s earning potential. If you reviewed divorce laws state by state, you’d find that most states require assets to be split equitably, not equally. The unfortunate reality is that many divorced women could end up on the wrong side of what they perceive to be fair. But, there are steps you can take to help be prepared for the negotiation. Here are nine things you can do to help prepare for your divorce settlement negotiations: 1. Get your paperwork in order. Since assets are generally divided on a percentage basis, the more specifically you can identify your assets, the more fairly the assets are likely to be awarded. Be prepared to present these documents: Tax records (pre- and post-marriage) Savings and checking account records Brokerage account records Securities acquisition records Employee retirement plan records for you and your spouse Insurance policies Real estate/mortgage/lease documents Living will/power of attorney/organ donor cards Trust agreements Business and personal loan and credit card records Birth records, marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements Records of law suits Records of gifts from third parties and spouse 2. Establish your own credit card, checking and savings accounts under your own name. Make sure your paycheck, if automatically deposited, goes to your own checking account. And, make sure you alert your joint credit card vendors to the situation so they can put a stop on any future charges by your spouse. 3. Consider establishing a joint or escrow account for interim family expenses. It’s important that you try to maintain your lifestyle during divorce proceedings. Any reduction in your standard of living during this period may be grounds for reducing the financial support you receive in the future. You’ll need an interim system for paying bills during the period between separation and divorce, before any final settlement is determined, and until all money issues are resolved. 4. Get professional help—legal and financial help are invaluable, particularly when dividing property. Not consulting a professional may lead to a decision that could irreparably jeopardize your rights, your property settlement and your future. If the expense is keeping you from consulting the appropriate advisors, keep in mind that payment of any legal, accounting and actuarial fees you incur during divorce proceedings may be negotiated as part of your settlement. 5. Establish child support. If you have a family, one of your top priorities during a divorce could be the physical and emotional well being of your children. A judge typically determines the financial resources that must be made available to the custodial parent according to the laws in your state. 6. Resolve how college tuition will be paid. Both parents’ contributions to college expenses will need to be addressed in the divorce settlement. While it may be tempting to use retirement funds as a source of education funding, a word of caution, these assets can take a very long time to replace. College costs can be met through a patchwork arrangement of low-interest loans, financial aid, and part time student jobs. 7. Negotiate the best health insurance coverage for you and your children. If one parent has access to health insurance at a reasonable coast, most states have laws permitting or requiring the court to order that parent to keep the children on the plan. Children are typically covered until they reach age 18. If health insurance becomes an expense, it should be factored into the child support award. 8. Calculate the long-term costs of keeping the house. Today, you may want the house. It makes sense if you’re hoping to maintain custody of your children and preserve some continuity in their lives. It can also be a very valuable, though illiquid, asset. But, a home can be very expensive to maintain in the long term. A mortgage, taxes, utilities, maintenance and general day-to-day upkeep add up. Once the marriage is dissolved, will you still be able to maintain the house? Make sure you run the numbers ahead of time, before you stake your claim and fight to keep your home. 9. Negotiate for retirement benefits. Divorce negotiations for benefits from 401(k) plans, Individual Retirement Accounts and other retirement plans should be handled with great care. Consult a qualified actuary to appraise the value of the retirement plan assets to help ensure an equitable division or replacement value of these vehicles. culled from www.zealnote.com |

The following vehicles are the winners for 2012: Compact Sedan | Midsize Sedan | Large Sedan | Coupe | Convertible | Wagon | Compact SUV/Crossover | Midsize SUV/Crossover | Large SUV/Crossover | Minivan/Van | Compact Truck | Large Truck | Luxury | Hybrid | Sport Compact Compact Sedan: 2005-2010 Hyundai Elantra Hyundai Elantra A complete redesign in 2001 earned the Hyundai Elantra our respect, which was bolstered further by a tough tour of duty in long-term fleet. In addition to peppy performance and a smooth ride, the Elantra offers solid build quality, reliability and operating economy. A GT hatchback version provides added cargo capacity in addition to standard leather seating, a moonroof and a sport-tuned suspension. Impressive crash test scores are another feather in the Elantra’s cap. For 2007 the Elantra was again redesigned. It was initially offered only as a sedan and boasted more interior room and higher fuel efficiency than the previous generation. A wagon (dubbed Elantra Touring) debuted for 2009, boasting a more European feel both in terms of its design and chassis tuning. Midsize Sedan: 2005-2010 Nissan Altima Nissan Altima When the Nissan Altima was redesigned and enlarged for 2002, it gave family sedan shoppers a viable choice if a “fun to drive” personality was a requirement. As such, the Altima has established itself as an accommodating midsizer with strong performance (especially if equipped with the potent V6) and athletic handling. A full redesign for 2007 brought handsome Infiniti-like styling, a nicer interior with more soft-touch materials, and a CVT (continuously variable transmission) that delivered on that technology’s promises of ultra-smooth operation and increased fuel efficiency. That year also marked the debut of a hybrid version, though it was only available in eight states. Large Sedan: 2006-2010 Hyundai Azera Hyundai Azera Offering an upscale look inside and out and a number of unexpected luxury features for short money, the Azera also boasts the solid build quality and steadfast reliability that Hyundai is fast becoming known for. Strong crash test scores, smooth and refined performance and a quiet ride round out the Azera’s impressive credentials, while its “dark horse” status all but guarantees bargain pricing. Those looking for something more upscale that stills packs similar Hyundai value might consider the Genesis luxury sedan. Introduced for 2009, the similarly well-rounded Genesis makes a good alternative to pricey German luxury brands. Coupe: 2005-2010 BMW 3 Series BMW 3 Series The BMW 3 Series embodies everything a coupe should be: sporty, stylish and with a level of practicality closer to that of a sedan than a dedicated sports car. Even if you go with the entry-level, less powerful 325/328 models, there’s still plenty of performance to be had from the smooth inline-6. Communicative steering coupled to an athletic chassis provides a very satisfying drive and validates why these cars remain so incredibly popular with enthusiasts. An all-new coupe debuted for 2007, bringing more power and sleeker styling as well as the availability of all-wheel drive. Offering impressive fuel economy along with very strong performance, the turbodiesel 335d sedan debuted for 2009. Convertible: 2005-2010 Mazda Miata Mazda Miata Anyone who wonders how car enthusiasts can be so passionate about driving need only take a spin in a Miata. With its ultra-responsive and communicative steering, an exuberant engine and a manual transmission with short, precise throws and an easy clutch, Mazda’s little two-seater wins over even those who don’t know a camshaft from a crankshaft. Nothing within the average Joe’s means represents affordable all-around automotive athleticism better than a Miata. Factor in great reliability, frugal fuel usage and plenty of aftermarket accessories, and it’s easy to see why so many Miata owners love their car as much as (perhaps even more than) their significant other. Wagon: 2005-2010 Pontiac Vibe Pontiac Vibe With more than a touch of style, impressive space efficiency, compact dimensions and a smooth, reliable powertrain courtesy of Toyota, the Vibe makes for a very practical choice. Although it shares its mechanical components with the Toyota Matrix, the Vibe is arguably more attractive. In addition, it will likely be a better value, as chances are you can get this Pontiac for less money than a comparable Matrix due to the higher resale prices the Toyota name usually commands. A redesign for 2009 brought new styling, a larger, more powerful 2.4-liter inline-4 option and improved fit and finish within the cabin. Compact SUV/Crossover: 2005-2010 Honda CR-V Honda CR-V Space-efficient, fuel-efficient and easy to drive and own, the Honda CR-V does almost everything well. With as much passenger and cargo space as some larger SUVs, the CR-V is usually more than enough for most consumers’ needs. Though no V6 engine is available, the CR-V’s inline-4 is sufficient and returns respectable fuel mileage. A comfortable ride, an excellent reliability record and strong crash test ratings underscore why the CR-V is a top pick among our staff and consumers alike. The CR-V was redesigned in 2007 with slightly controversial styling and the new option of a navigation system but no mechanical changes of note. A few tweaks took place for 2010, including 14 more horsepower. Midsize SUV/Crossover: 2005-2010 Ford Explorer Ford Explorer With its available burly V8 engine, nicely balanced handling and ride characteristics, roomy interior and plentiful family-friendly features, the Ford Explorer has a lot to offer anyone needing a versatile family vehicle. Being a truck-based SUV and available with V8 power, the Explorer provides greater towing capability than car-platform-based (a.k.a. “crossover”) SUVs. Yet by virtue of some clever engineering that provides a spacious footwell out back, it boasts an adult-friendly third-row seat. Large SUV/Crossover: 2005-2010 Chevrolet Tahoe Chevrolet Tahoe Strong performance, a comfortable ride and attractive styling are a few of the Tahoe’s assets. Others include a roomy cabin that can seat up to nine and fairly nimble handling for such a bulky vehicle. A Tahoe equipped with the torque-rich 5.3-liter V8 is a good choice for towing duty. A complete redesign for 2007 brought greatly improved interior materials, quelling perhaps the biggest gripe we had with this versatile hauler and giving the cabin in the top trim levels a truly luxurious ambience. Minivan/Van: 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey Honda Odyssey Before 1999, the Odyssey couldn’t compete with the more powerful V6-powered minivans from Dodge and Toyota. A four-cylinder engine, no matter how refined, isn’t going to cut it when the van is loaded up with seven passengers and their belongings. That all changed when Honda brought out the completely revamped Odyssey in 1999. Boasting the then most powerful V6 in the segment, along with a huge interior, hideaway third-row seat, top safety scores and Honda’s solid reputation for quality and reliability, the Odyssey quickly jumped to the head of the class. A redesign for 2005 preserved these virtues and kept it there. You’ll probably have to lay out a few more greenbacks for one of these vans, even in the used market, but consider it money well spent. Compact Truck: 2005-2010 Toyota Tacoma Toyota Tacoma In addition to the well-known strengths of impressive overall quality and a rock-solid reliability record, the Tacoma offers a pickup for most any need or personality. There’s even the PreRunner edition that offers the suspension, ride height and aggressive tires of a 4WD truck without the added complexity and fuel appetite. Whether you’re looking for a sporty street truck, an aggressive off-roader or a crew-cab family truck, we’re willing to bet that the Tacoma lineup has something with your name on it. Large Truck: 2005-2010 Ford F-150 Ford F-150 There must be a very good reason that the Ford F-150 has been the top-selling vehicle in America for most of the last three decades. Actually, we can think of many: a huge variety of cab styles and trim levels, a comfortable interior with sound ergonomics, a compliant ride, communicative and precise steering, smooth power plants and best-in-class brakes. A full redesign for 2009 brought more powerful engines along with styling inspired by Ford’s Super Duty pickup line. Regardless of what year and style you settle on, the amazing popularity of the F-150 means finding one that suits you perfectly should be fairly easy. Luxury: 2005-2010 Infiniti G35/G37 Infiniti G37 With rear-wheel drive, a ripping V6 and sporty suspension tuning, the G35 and later G37 are Infiniti’s answer to the BMW 3 Series. As compared to that German benchmark, the G’s much roomier cabin and lower acquisition and maintenance costs make the Infiniti a smart choice for savvy enthusiasts. While the sedan will make the most sense for most folks, the rakish coupe offers Nissan Z-car intenders more practicality, with performance that’s virtually identical to that dedicated two-seat sports car. Hybrid: 2005-2010 Toyota Prius Toyota Prius After testing the hybrid waters with the cramped first-generation Prius, Toyota pulled out all the stops with the second-generation version introduced for 2004. The Prius’ snub-nosed hatchback design devotes most of the car’s body to passenger and cargo space. The result is a midsize cabin within a compact footprint, making the Prius a snap to park in tight spaces. Of course it gets excellent fuel economy while providing satisfactory performance whether dicing with city traffic or merging onto a fast-moving freeway. The third-generation Prius bowed for 2010, bringing more power, better fuel mileage and more conventional controls all wrapped up in crisper styling. Sport Compact: 2005-2010 Subaru WRX Subaru Impreza WRX Subaru’s Impreza WRX has long been a favorite of enthusiasts on a budget for its spirited performance and fun-loving personality. Yet the WRX packs a few practical strengths that also make it a good choice as an everyday vehicle. A compliant suspension means it won’t beat you up during the daily grind over broken pavement, while standard all-wheel drive allows it to handle foul-weather driving with sure-footed confidence. Throw a set of dedicated snow tires on it and the WRX can handle most anything a tough winter season could throw at it. A 2009 redesign brought firmer suspension calibrations as well as a substantial (41 hp) boost in power. http://classicseo./category/seo-car-magazine/ |
