I met my Local Government Inspector, LGI today. It was our first meeting in person though i had met her countless times through the horror stories recounted by Batch A 2015 Corp members. There was no need for an introduction, i knew she was the one the moment i set my eyes on her. She seems to scare almost everybody but somehow she doesn't scare me- she tickles me. Her voice and overbearing attitude makes me remember all those Kalabari aunties who would rather be called 'Sisi'. If you were to accidentally say 'Good morning auntie' when greeting them; they'll descend on you and try to finish your destiny with swear words. My LGI spent most of the morning complaining about the Christmas gifts she didn't receive from corp members. She cussed amidst complains. Corp members giggled silently, i almost laughed aloud. It was really hilarious. Who intentionally buys gifts for a bully? . I pray she doesn't read this... Former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, has joined the list of those mourning former Bayelsa state Governor, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyesiegha. Ibori in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Tony Eluemunor, said, ''Alamieyesiegha was my friend, brother, and co-fighter on the Resource Control and fiscal federalism front. We were not just colleagues in the Governors Forum from 1999, in the man I found a boundless and dependable warrior in the battle for the cause of the Niger Delta. He was fearless, forthright, outspoken and dedicated his life to the causes he believed would benefit his people. “In fact, he was consumed by the cause of the Ijaw people, the degradation of their environment and collective psyche. He was in a hurry to see that the injustice under which they laboured be redressed; and he was ready to bear any pain, pay any price, to see that their day of liberation arrived fast.” Ibori who is also serving the last few months of his prison sentence in London following his guilty plea and subsequent conviction in a multi-count graft and money laundering case, further said: “Alamieyesiegha became the victim of great hypocrisy masquerading as nationalism and anti-corruption fight. “Alamieyesigha was lied against, as heaps upon heaps of untruths were piled on him, and national hysteria replaced public discourse whenever the subject was Alamieyesiegha. Otherwise respected newspapers made up stories about how he returned from London. Though the man told his own story that he was put on an aircraft and taken out from London to the Ivory Coast, his story was never investigated to even find out if he was lying. It was unconscionable journalism. He was plotted against by those who swore they were fighting on the side of good even though they had taken high seats in the devil’s court. Hon. Joe Edionwele, member representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency in the newly-inaugurated House of Representatives, says Nigerians should not ask lawmakers to take pay cuts because workers in other sectors earn more. Edionwele in a chat with journalists in Abuja monday, said contrary to popular opinion, some lecturers, bankers and oil workers earn more than federal lawmakers. He said, ''pay cut will not in any way increase the financial base of the nation. I think people are speaking out of ignorance. Even before now, I was one of those who believed the same thing. The records will be made public. We will ensure that the National Assembly does that. Nigerians need to know. http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/dont-ask-lawmakers-to-take-pay-cut-oil-workers-earn-more-hon-edionwele.113173/ |
Ahead of the gubernatorial elections in Kogi, the All Progressives Congress, APC is warming up to snatch the state from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. HALLMARK reports that James Ocholi (SAN), leader of the APC in Kogi is the favorite for the gubernatorial ticket. However, internal crisis is currently brewing in the party as former governor, Prince Abubakar Audu also wants the ticket. Reacting to the development, Ocholi said, ''There is persistent clamour for change of leadership in the state. And most people are sufficiently aware that we cannot have the change we desire if we do not come together to chase PDP out of power. However, the basic truth is that we have passed the stage of arbitrariness in politics. I can bet with you that with the way Audu is handling people around him, nobody will like to vote for APC in the state and certainly he cannot win any election on his own in the state.Prince Abubakar Audu sees me as using my position at the national level to gain political advantage over him for his governorship ambition. http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/apc-begins-preparation-for-kogi-polls-ocholi-tipped-as-flagbearer.112121/ |

On November 20, 1957, the cry of a baby boy was heard. Born into a family of canoe makers and fishermen, destiny had great plans for the boy. The boy grew in leaps and bound, achieving academic heights his fathers never imagined. As fate would have it the fisherman's son developed interest in politics, ventured in, and successfully became deputy governor. The gods saw so much potential in this fisherman and weren't content to let him remain as deputy governor, they plotted to better his luck after all his name was Goodluck. His boss, the governor got into major trouble with the law and was shown the door. The fisherman became Governor. As governor he was silent and strong, avoiding controversies. When his peers in the region began lobbying for the vice presidential slot, the fisherman remained silent and showed no ambition. The gods once more remembered him. A powerful, domineering soon to ex-president believing the fisherman would suit and serve his purposes, singled him out for the much sought after position of vice president .And so the fisherman became vice president without hassle. As vice president, the fisherman was rarely seen or heard. He was content to eat his expensive smoked fish and drink gin in silence. One day the gods remembered him again, his boss succumbed to a long raging ill health, then the trials of the fisherman began. In elementary school, my teachers forced civic duties and social responsibilities into my thick skull. They made it seem glamorous to serve my motherland; they always spoke of national honor and the respect I’ll garner from everyone around me if I made my country proud. I went into secondary school, still dreaming of honor. I worked hard, studied hard and made it to the university still eyeing that national honor I’ll one day get through positive hard work and dedication. Few years into my university education, as I watched my renowned , well-traveled and seasoned Professors battle poverty I became disillusioned. There was no national honor awaiting me for being a good citizen, even if there was it would be a senseless plaque and a 2 seconds handshake from my president. Nigeria doesn’t care if you design a new flag or compose an anthem for them, school children would probably read of you and cram your name to pass examinations but you’ll certainly live in poverty. Maybe the President will show up at your funeral to extol your good virtues and shed fake tears to earn publicity points. I am an overachiever who loves getting paid for every achievement. I don’t want the President at my funeral, my family would rather hire mourners than have the President shed fake tears over my eternal resting place. I want to rest in peace, not swim in crocodile tears. The thought of no national honor plus monetary aid awaiting me, gave me more sleepless nights than the mosquitoes song. I almost felt bad about every the community service I’ve rendered. How do I get into social studies textbooks and still drive a range rover around town?. Night after night I tossed on my bed, I prayed to higher beings for inspiration, stalked Google and threw weird questions everywhere. Gbam! Like thunderbolt, it hit me when I read the story of the Stowaway teenager on Vanguard News. You and I deserve national honor, recognition and a fat pay cheque. We’ve been good citizens, we clean our houses and drop the waste in the gutter, waiting for the rain to pour down and flush it out. We only pee on roadsides that do not have “ Do not Urinate here” written around and so National recognition is a must. Here is a list of options we could probably try out…feel free to pick whichever soothes you. From the days of Stella Obasanjo, Nigeria first ladies have been renowned for their bogus pet projects, impeccable sense of style, extravagant lifestyle and strong silence in the face of political drama. Dame Patience Jonathan, first lady like none other. Mrs Jonathan definitely has no style, class or elegance associated with the likes of Late Stella Obasanjo. Dame Patience Jonathan is instead renowned for shamelessly courting controversy, spit fire speeches, breach of protocol and publicly fighting her husbands opposition. Many political analysts over the years have waxed stronger through their criticisms of the first lady's speeches, attitude and lifestyle. Reuben Abati, now a presidential stooge was so appalled by the first lady's lack of class and social grace that he wrote a touching sarcastic tribute "Our President's Darling Wife", which was published by vanguard on August 27, 2010 to protest the First lady's attitude. Even Nigeria's favorite noble laureate professor Wole Soyinka had to describe Dame Patience Jonathan as"President Jonathan's domestic appendage". Other men like Evans Bipi have been swallowed in deeper controversy for tagging Dame Patience Jonathan his 'Jesus on earth'. All through the criticisms she fought, spiting her own fire and using colorful names and words she barely understood to answer her critics.
