Going by your analogy: If some people come to claim the land where my parents and I have been living on (e.g. Lagos) as their land, what needs to be done is to confirm from historical facts if it is true or not.
If the records and witnesses prove and confirm beyond any doubt that the land actually belonged to them, the proper thing to do is to negotiate with them, and see how we could reach a compromise and live peacefully and harmoniously with them on the same land! Those are the ones that are described as ''Arab Israelis''. They are mostly Moslems and they practice their religion without any molestation from Jews. They worship in the mosques and observe their cultural rights in all over Israel without any harm from Jews. So those who call Israel an apartheid state or occupier force do not know what they are talking about.

But there were other Arabs who refused to accept that the land belonged to Israel, and decided to fight, destroy and eliminate Israel from the surface of the earth!. They say Israel must not exist as a nation! Those are the ones who refused to live in peace with Israel and rather wanted to drive the Jews away from the land. And their descendants are the ones fighting Israel till today!
