Health / Does Smartphone Radiation Cause Cancer? Must Read by dpedro1: 2:51am On Jul 06, 2018
Does using a mobile phone result to cancer or other diseases? Scientists have been arguing for a long time. To clarify the facts, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked the National Institutes of Health's National Toxicology Program to launch a special study.

According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on February 3, the National Institutes of Health National Toxicology (NTP) program was first published on February 2, a large-scale research report, alleging cancer and cell phone radiation related.
smartphone radiation cause cancer
The report showed that in addition to a rare heart disease in 6% of male rats exposed to mobile phones, preliminary findings did not reveal the potential risks of other cancers. But researchers in the field warned that the discovery sparked a "worrying area."

Smartphones and other wireless devices emit a small amount of low-frequency microwave radiation when connecting to the network and transmitting information. This energy is far less powerful than ultraviolet radiation or X-ray energy, but new research has further confirmed that even microwave radiation can cause health problems at high doses.

In this multi-million dollar study, NTP researchers placed mice and mice in high-level radiation for up to 18 hours a day and alternated every 10 minutes. When a mobile phone tries to connect to a weak network signal or transmits a large amount of information, the radiation will proliferate.

Experts warn that it is these different exposures that pose a safety hazard to mobile devices.

John Bucher, co-author of the study, said: "Our final findings are the same as those we published in 2016." Early detection and later studies have shown that there is a history of cardiac schwannomas in mice. "Significant differences in data."

From a statistical point of view, the incidence of other cancers is no higher than the prevalence of the rats expected by the researchers, as the larger the animals are more sensitive to radiation. The latest findings of NTP have not been formally reviewed, but Dr. Bucher said, “This research is crucial because they give us a starting point for exploring new areas.”

Phones / Android Phone Apps Are Secretly Leaking Your Privacy To Third Parties by dpedro1: 2:24am On Jul 06, 2018
Scientists have discovered that some Android phone programs are secretly taking photos and videos on smartphones and sending them to third parties.
Android Phone Apps leak private data

According to the Gizmodo website, a group of scientists at Northeastern University in Boston experimented to determine if an application had recorded the user's call. It is reported that in one year, they have studied more than 17,000 of the most popular Android applications, including those belonging to the social networking site Facebook and sending Facebook data.
During the study, the researchers used different equipment. Scientists have not found instances where the application secretly turns on the microphone and transmits audio data. But they found that some programs took photos and videos that users made on their phones and passed the data to third parties. In some cases, the video contains personal information that has already been entered. Researchers point out that users don't always know that their behavior is being recorded because it is not stated in the "Privacy Policy" in a series of procedures.

Education / 13 Most Effective College Scholarship Application Tips by dpedro1: 7:56am On Oct 16, 2017
Nowadays, students go after scholarships abroad due to poor education in some local universities and financial constraints Most have applied many times but to no avail. The truth is these applicants makes common mistakes during application for scholarships. Don't worry, am here to help. Here are our best tips for finding scholarships and creating the most successful submissions.
1. Apply for local scholarships

Many communities offer local scholarships through clubs, organizations, small businesses, and benefactors. The odds of winning these scholarships are greater because they’re open to a smaller group of students. Here’s how to find local scholarships:

(a)Check with your teachers and guidance counselor
(b)Search local media websites, like television and radio stations
(c)Check community portals
(d)Use geographical Internet searches, like “scholarships in Nigeria”
(e)Ask people who graduated
(f)Use a personalized scholarship search tool like our Scholarship Match or the Scholarship Search tool in the premium version of the MONEY College Planner

2. Apply for scholarships with smaller awards

Many students look for scholarships that offer the biggest bucks—but those are also the most competitive. Scholarships with smaller awards usually have fewer applicants, so your chances of winning may be higher. These scholarships can help with college costs like books, supplies, and living expenses. Paying off those smaller expenses can quickly add up to big savings.
3. More work = fewer applicants = better chances

Many students avoid scholarships that require a lot of work, such as essays, videos, and projects. As a result, the applicant pool is much smaller, which means greater chances for you. Scholarships with essays over 1,000 words often have fewer than 500 applicants, compared to the 5,000 students who enter easier scholarships.
4. Get personal

Instead of burning yourself out applying for every scholarship you qualify for, have some fun! Apply for scholarships that fit your interests and that you’ll enjoy. There are scholarships for everyone under the sun: zombie lovers, vegetarians, Magic: The Gathering players … the list goes on and on. The more personal the scholarship, the more likely your passion will show through, resulting in a better submission.

5. Don’t introduce yourself in your essay

It’s cliché and may even get you disqualified. Many scholarship committees conduct blind readings, and essays that include names or other identifiers are immediately discarded. Get to the point as quickly as possible.
6. Don’t repeat the essay prompt

No one wants to reread the same sentence hundreds of times a day. Be original! Use the beginning of your essay to showcase your personality and set yourself apart from the crowd. Try starting your essay by setting the scene for a story or jumping directly into your answer.
7. Don’t use quotes

Your essay should be about you. The best essays are unique and stand out from the competition, so be original and use your own words.
8. Satisfy all the requirements

You can write the best essay in the world, but if the prompt asks for a list of five things, and you only list four, you may be disqualified. Make sure you answer every question and accurately meet every requirement.

9. Stick to the word limit

Get as close to the word limit as you can, but don’t go over. Exceeding the word limit may disqualify you.
10. Proofread

Spelling and grammar mistakes may get you disqualified. Make sure to proofread your essay at least twice and ask your parents and friends to look it over, too. The more eyes, the better.
11. Submit early

Don’t wait until the due date, just in case there’s a problem with the site, the Internet connection, or your computer.

12. Apply for as many scholarships as you can

The tip we hear the most from scholarship winners is to apply for as many scholarships as you can. Treat it like a part-time job and set aside several hours every month to look for and apply for scholarships. You should continue applying for scholarships for as long as you’re in school.

13. Don’t give up!

If you don’t win, don’t take it personally, and DON’T GIVE UP! Like most things in life, the most successful scholarship winners are the ones who keep trying. Find scholarships that you’re passionate about and keep applying.

Autos / Why Driverless Cars May Never Work In Nigeria by dpedro1: 1:29am On Jul 21, 2017
Source:-http://www.alltekng.tk/2017/07/why-driverless-cars-may-never-work-in-nigeria.html
Most of the road networks in Nigeria are unorganized so this poses a threat for the use of driverless cars. Apart from the road networks there are also other pressing issues that may place Nigeria far behind in embracing the use of driverless cars. The country lacks stable electricity, there are slow Internet connections in some areas and a very disorganized public transport system.

Since these vehicles are automated and need a fast and stable internet connection to work it may take years before driverless cars would be in use in Nigeria if these issues are not tackled. However, bad governance is slowly killing the future of technology in Nigeria. The funds meant to be used to improve the lives of the citizens are being embezzled and the Nigerian people have adopted a way of life that keeps them going strong despite the hardship.

Nigerians have learnt to smile even in the midst of pain and hardship. I must say that it's quite appalling that a country like Nigeria that is called "The Giant Of Africa" ( a name I feel Nigeria no longer deserves as they have learnt to celebrate mediocrity over meritocracy) does not have 24 hours electricity after over 50 years of existence.A particular group of persons are enjoying while the masses are suffering.

Driverless Cars
I've taken time to analyze the worst case scenarios that could occur if driverless cars come to Nigeria.

1. Reckless Danfo Drivers Ramming Into To The Cars.

(Danfo is a yellow bus usually used commercially around Lagos, Nigeria)

Automated cars have had their fair share of crashes, even Google's driverless car is exempted.
Most automated cars rely on artificial intelligence to predict the movement of the cars around.
An average Nigerian doesn't need a geek to tell him that before you can use artificial intelligence to predict the movements of these drivers, your artificial intelligence logic must be out of this world.

2. Owners Of Automated Cars Will Get Stuck The Road

Most traffic jams are caused when someone decides to break traffic rules and others decide to follow. It's either a traffic jam drains your car battery and you end up stuck on the road. Considering the fact that most automated cars especially Tesla cars are charged, with the current state of electricity in the country, it's almost a bad idea to even think of using an automated car here.

3. A Pothole Wrecks Your Engine

I've always wanted potholes to be shown on Google Maps for Nigeria but I guess it's going to take a while.

Engines of these cars are very expensive and I'm not yet sure if there are repair stations I'm Nigeria. This simply means that, if the A.I can't detect the potholes, then autopilot mode isn't a very good option.

I'd love to know what you think about having cars without drivers on Nigerian roads.

Phones / US Government Bans Kaspersky Antivirus by dpedro1: 12:49am On Jul 19, 2017
The General Services Administration (US) has validated that Kaspersky Antivirus is no longer an approved software vendor. This means that federal agencies and state departments are not permitted to purchase software products from Kaspersky. Several reports from people suggest that the security firm had great ties than initially thought with Russian intelligence agency FSB.
The US Government Banned Kaspersky Antivirus
Kaspersky Lab, the Russian cyber security company, maintains almost 400 million users worldwide. This will come as a shock to you that the Trump administration on Tuesday removed Kaspersky Lab from two lists of approved vendors chosen by government agencies to purchase technology equipment.
http://www.alltekng.tk/2017/07/the-us-government-bans-kaspersky.html
Here’s what General Services Administration said:
“GSA’s priorities are to ensure the security and integrity of US government networks and systems and evaluate service and products and available on their contracts using supply chain risk management processes.”
Well, this is not the first time Kaspersky had raised concerns regarding the collaboration with Russia. Recently, reports from US-based Media, including Bloomberg News suggest that the security firm had great ties than initially thought with Russian intelligence agency FSB.
On the other hand, the security firm denied all the allegations on laid on them; it had explained on its website that the company doesn’t have any ‘inappropriate’ ties with any government. Kaspersky also added it company sole options is to fight cyber crime.

Bloomberg claimed that they had captured internal company emails that served as proof of a ‘much closer working relationship’ between Kaspersky and FSB. However, Kaspersky Lab said the communication was ‘misinterpreted or manipulated.’
Here’s what the firm said:
“Kaspersky Lab is very public about the fact that it assists law enforcement agencies around the world with fighting cyber threats, including those in Russia, by providing cyber security expertise on malware and cyber attacks.”
“When assisting in official Russian cyber crime investigations, by Russian law, we only provide technical expertise throughout the investigation to help them catch cyber criminals. Concerning raids and physically catching cyber criminals, Kaspersky-Lab might ride along to examine any digital evidence found, but that is the extent of our participation, as we do not track hackers’ locations. Kaspersky-Lab doesn’t provide any government agencies, nor other parties, with information on the location of people and doesn’t gather ‘identifying data from customers’ computers’ because it is technically impossible.”
Kaspersky-Lab had also declined all the charges by claiming that it is “unjustly accused without any hard evidence”

Business / GTB Naira Master Card Limit For Foreign Transaction Now $1000 Monthly by dpedro1: 1:04am On Jul 13, 2017
Right now the urgency to get a dollar master card will reduce considering this upward review of dollar transactions on naira master card. This has been a battle ever since when Nigerian banks set limits to naira Master cards usage for foreign transaction.
The good news is that you can now use your Naira Master Card to shop on foreign sites like AliExpress, Gearbest etc with monthly limits of $1000. At-least this will save you the hassle of opening a dollar accounts or using barter virtual cards.
GTB Naira Master Card Limit for Foreign Transaction now $1000
http://www.alltekng.tk/2017/07/gtb-naira-master-card-limit-for-foreign.html
As at yesterday, GTB charges N380 per dollar which is still very much on the high side and I’m not comfortable with that. If you already have a dollar account, no need to use your naira master card, just buy dollars from Bureau de’change and initiate your transaction; but if you don’t, then you can make use of your Naira Master card.

The bad news is that to make withdrawals with your naira master card abroad, you'll be charge N1000 instead of N420; and you can only withdrawal $300 daily.

Ntel, the Nigeria’s most advanced 4G/LTE broadband operator has launched a new device, not a MiFi, not a Router at this time, but a smartphone called ntel Nova, which physically looks like a feature phone. You may mistake it to be one of the cheap feature phones around. The Nova is an Android smartphone in the case of a feature phone.

http://www.alltekng.tk/2017/07/ntel-launch-nova-smartphone-4gvolte.html
It has a 3.5-inch touchscreen and an alphanumeric touchscreen keypad, but it runs Android 6 Marshmallow OS, 1GB Ram and 8GB internal memory with 1800mAh battery capacity. It supports 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, with VoLTE (voice over LTE) support. That means you can use the Nova to make calls over a 4G network in addition to regular network calls.
