Oyo State Police Command is to rehabilitate the 11 kid robbers arrested in Ibadan, the state capital, on June 15, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina, said on Thursday. Katsina, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, added that the arrest of the kid robbers was part of initiatives by the command to ensure a crime-free environment in the state. Katsina stated that some of the kid robbers, aged between 12 and 14, conspired and invaded a house around the Challenge Area of Ibadan, where they stole the sum of N11,000.
“Based on information, the Anti-Robbery Squad of the command was sent out immediately and they were surprised to see kids of 12 and 14 years of age coming out to make confessional statements,” he said.

Katsina, who also expressed pity on the plight of the kids, explained that they voluntarily narrated to the police details about their activities. He lamented that the involvement of the kids in robbery activities could be attributed to lack of parental care and poverty.
“Most of these children are from broken homes and I wish parents can learn from the plight of these kids and take proper care of their children.
“One thing that keeps disturbing me is the voluntary narration and sincerity of the kids. They have no shelter of any sort and to them, their future starts and ends on the bridge.
“Their only means of livelihood is to savage innocent members of the public, be involved in pick pocketing, robbery and related criminal activities,” he said.

Katsina noted that 90 per cent of the kids arrested were not residents or indigenes of Oyo State.
“Some of them are from Benin Republic in search of greener pastures in Nigeria, in a negative way,” he said.
The police boss disclosed that one of the 11 kid robbers, a 12-year-old boy, was apprehended in Ogbomoso in a robbery-related conduct.
“In the course of the arrest, he led us to six other members of his group, where four of them were minors and the two others adults.
“The boy is from Kwara State, as we got to know from his confession. He confessed that his father was living happily with his mother until he married a second wife.
“As a result of that, there was a problem and the mother moved out with the kid robber and relocated to Ogbomoso,” he said.

Katsina, however, added that the command was currently taking care of the 11 arrested minors. He also said that Governor Abiola Ajimobi had promised to assist in the rehabilitation and provision of adequate care for the kids.
“When I spoke with him, he said that there were rehabilitation centres in Ibadan, where the kids would be provided with basic care amenities. The governor also said that the state government would assist to provide job opportunities for unemployed youths in the state at the newly-inaugurated Waste-to-Energy projects.”

The Oyo police boss, however, called on parents and the governments of the neighbouring countries to monitor the activities of their children and wards, while admonishing Nigerians and philanthropists to assist them.

Abumbi II, the 11th fon, or king, of Bafut, Cameroon, has close to 100 wives. They weren't all his to start. According to local tradition, when a fon dies, his successor inherits all his wives and then marries his own queens.

"The queens have a great role to play in the fondom," notes Prince Nickson, also of Bafut, noting that it is up to these women behind the man to shape him in his kingly role.

"Behind every successful man must be a very successful, staunch woman," says Abumbi's third wife, Queen Constance.

"Our tradition has it that when you are king, the elderly wives remain to hand down the tradition to the younger wives, and also to teach the king the tradition because the king had been a prince, not a king."

Despite the fact that polygamy is legal in Cameroon, the data shows that there are far fewer polygamous marriages across the African continent. The practice is being challenged by changing values, the spread of the Christian faith, the growing appeal of the western way of life but also the rising costs of having large families. It is against this backdrop that Cameroon's traditional rulers must walk the fine line between two often conflicting cultures.

"During colonialism other values came in, of governance, different from the traditional values we had and therefore there is this constant conflict between the traditional values and modern western values," admits Fon Abumbi II, who has ruled Bafut, the largest fondom in the region, for 47 years.

"My role is to blend them, to find the way forward so my subjects can enjoy the fruits of development and modernity without destroying their culture. Without a culture, you are not a human being, you are an animal. And therefore the chieftaincy institution is the guarantor of our culture."

Though polygamy is often met with criticism in the West, there are some who deem it a valuable tradition. After meeting with Fon Abumbi II, Soni Methu, presenter for CNN's Inside Africa, noted that there was more to the practice than meets the eye:

"I understand that we might be quick to judge the lifestyle of the kings, but just like in the United Kingdom, African kingdoms and kings are bound to a rich culture and history. (Practices) like inheritance of all your father's wives is nothing but a moral obligation."

She also observed that many of these royals are highly accomplished. On meeting the queens of Fon Ndofua Zofia II of Babungo -- one of Cameroon's youngest traditional rulers -- Methu said:

"All his young wives, forced on him by tradition, spoke fluent English in a French-speaking region and were great marketers."

It is this seeming contradiction that makes life in the fondom fascinating and confusing. Are they stuck in the past or keeping pace with the present? Fon Zofoa III doesn't think you have to choose. He may have "inherited" 72 wives and more than 500 children after his father's death, but he considers himself a very modern king.

"To run a kingdom nowadays in this era, you must be educated because things are moving very fast. Like they used to say, education is light, ignorance is darkness."

It has been gathered that Senator Buruji Kashamu saved the live of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo when 2 suspects tried to poison the Former President.
According to press reports;

Policemen from Zone 2 command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested two persons who allegedly posed as daughter to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and an intelligence officer respectively, to Senator Buruji Kashamu, with a plan to poison the former President.

The suspects identified as Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu, it was gathered, were arrested following a complaint by Kashamu at Zone 2, last month.

The suspects, it was gathered, met with Kashamu at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 8, 2015,where they allegedly called the former presidents unprintable names and offered to poison him. In response to the complaint lodged by Kashamu, the command reportedly swung into action and arrested the suspects.

According to a police report obtained by our correspondent: “The fact of the case was that the complainant alleged in his verbal complaint that the duo of Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu falsely represented themselves as an intelligence officer and daughter to the former President Obasanjo respectively to him under the pretence that they were going to resolve the political rift between him and Obasanjo.

“He stressed that the duo met with him at a hotel, where the latter who had collected N500,000 from his younger brother, made some uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks about the former president, while the former introduced herself as Yetunde Obsandjo to him. He added that he had to report to the police upon his suspicion of foul play by the suspects. “Investigation conducted revealed that the duo were impersonators.

From the foregoing, it was established that both Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu actually committed the offences alleged by the complainant and have been charged accordingly in line with the prescription of the law.

“The suspects were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo at the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on June 5, 2015 and were remanded at Kirikiri Prisons. The matter was adjourned to July 31, 2015.” It was gathered that Kashamu's gesture of reporting the matter to the police in spite of their political differences made Obasanjo to say he had forgiven Kashamu of any grudge he had against him.

It was gathered that the rapprochement led to Kashamu withdrawing the N20billion libel suit against Obasanjo.

Reports have it that Kenyan women on Thursday held a serious demo in Limuru, Kiambu County protesting the dwindling performance of men in the bedroom. A Kenyan website, Tuko, reports that a section of women held a peaceful demonstration in Ndeiya ward claiming that most of their men, including young men have failed to perform their conjugal rights. The women said the trend was worsened by high levels of alcohol consumption which saw many men abandon their families.

The women further claimed that only a few newly married women are currently pregnant with the rest of the bulk dreaming about ever having a baby since men have failed to impregnate them.

“If you walk in this village, you will find so many young married women but only a few are pregnant,” said one of the protesters, Nancy Wangare.


Women have now threatened to move outside Kiambu to other counties where they can find real men who are serious enough to impregnate them. They further called on government to make strict laws restricting drinking from 5pm to 11pm for week days and 2pm-11pm for weekends.

Dangote added that plans have already been concluded to construct a gas pipeline to address the power supply challenges in the state.

Dangote also said that his visit to Governor Ambode was for the purpose of assuring the governor of his commitment to complete the ongoing projects already embarked upon by his company.

McArthur 74, met 52 years ago, and were
desperate to be legally together as a gay

dissolve an adoption unless another
person adopted Mr MacArthur.
However, a friend advised them the courts
may allow a petition to vacate an adoption
if it was made clear the only reason for it
was to give a legal underpinning to the
relationship.
The couple showed up in court on May 14
hoping the judge would sign the petition to
vacate their adoption so they could get
legally married with 30 friends to show the
case was out of the ordinary, and the
public gallery burst into applause when
the judge decided to dissolve the adoption.
Ten days later, the lovebirds were legally
married at a small private ceremony
conducted by an old friend of the couple’s
who is an Episcopalian priest.

“I feel incredibly happy. It’s
the only way I can describe
it – just enormously happy,”
Mr MacArthur said. “It was
very much worth the wait."

A firm, Silon Concepts Limited, has sued the Peoples Democratic Party and two officials of its Presidential Campaign Organisation for their alleged refusal to pay it an outstanding N70m balance for a campaign contract.
It filed its suit, marked CV/2017/15, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Thursday.
The plaintiff is demanding full payment for the ‘voice SMS campaign broadcast’ it sent to eligible voters on behalf of the PDP Presidential candidate, former President Goodluck Jonathan, before the March 28, 2015 presidential poll.
The two other members of the campaign organisation, who are defendants, are the Chairman, Ahmadu Ali, and Director of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman.

In addition to the demand for the N70m balance, the plaintiff asked the court to compel the defendants to pay to it the sum of N15m as the cost of the suit.
The plaintiff’s prayers read, “An order compelling the defendants to pay the plaintiff the sum of N70m being the outstanding balance for the contract executed by the plaintiff for the defendants.
“An order compelling the defendants to pay N15m, being the cost of the suit.
“An order compelling the defendants to pay the bank an annual interest rate of 10 per cent on the sum of N70m until the said sum is fully liquidated.”
The plaintiff claimed that the PDP, through Ali, agreed to pay it N100m for a contract of sending ‘Voice SMS campaign broadcast’ to eligible voters as part of the campaign for the party’s presidential candidate.
The PDP and its candidate eventually lost the March presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.
