Health / Re: Malaria Epidemic: Achieving Pre-elimination Stage By 2020 In Nigeria by drace(m): 1:09pm On Oct 18, 2018
longerthroat:
If not for politics, drugs like ARTEQUICK (A COMBINATION OF ARTEMISININ &PIPERAQUINE) will do the magic. it did wonders in Cambodia and some other countries. yet they kept selling less effective ACT to people... I pray we wake up someday to this reality.

Artemisinin is an ACT also.
And the best ACT in Nigeria is Artesunate/Amodiaquin which most of us will not want to take. But even then, the problem is not the type of ACT used but the standard and the way our people take the medications. For example, Coartem is to be used at the zero hour, then, exactly 8 hours after the first dose, then 24 hours after the first dose and 12 hourly subsequently. And it should be used after a fatty meal or with a cup of milk.
The other problem we have is the storage of our drugs. They should be stored below 30°C but the ambient temperature is higher. The implication is that the drugs most people use have lost a bit of their potency!
Career / Re: LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Sacks 255 Staff by drace(m): 7:51pm On Dec 28, 2017
For the sake of clarity, I will put the following facts on records. I speak as a worker of this hospital serving Oyo and parts of Osun States.

1. LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, is a sole property of Oyo State Government while the one in Osogbo belongs to Osun. There is joint ownership of the University but not of the hospitals.

2. The government of His Excellency, Senator Isiaq Ajimobi, has been cold towards the hospital since he came on board.

3. The cold shoulder shown him by the people of Ogbomoso zone during the last election of the State aggravated his hatred (real or perceived) for the hospital and salaries are no longer being paid as they should.
Since January of 2016, each member of staff gets about half of his salary, and most doctors get only 28-35% of his wages!
As we speak, we are being owed minimum of 14 months, and nobody has got any half (or one third as the case of doctors is) salary for 4 months.

4. Nobody, except those who carried out this artless activity knows the rationale behind who to sack or redeploy. It has nothing to do with your tribe, state of origin or anything.

5. Whether the hospital will survive this evil or not remains to be seen.

6. Anyone who has the ears of the governor should speak with him. Let it be known to him that it is the office that survives the occupant! The Agodi House will surely survive the one who claims to be Constituted Authority.

Sports / Re: Divorce: Emmanuel Eboue Is Broke, Suicide On His Mind As He Loses Everything by drace(m): 12:13pm On Dec 25, 2017
Shouldn't he just say his health challenge that stops him from earning over a million pound a year was the real issue instead of muddling his health issue and lack of education with divorce?

https://www.nairaland.com/4092015/emmanuel-eboue-tests-positive-hiv

Why didn't he tell us how he contracted the virus? You don't get the virus from nowhere except through someone that has it.

Shouldn't he just tell us if he lived a riotous lifestyle or not? You cannot spend on alcohols and women and fail to pay a big price! Sorry, it is time to pay for those seemingly harmless carelessness! Just unfortunate. But I'm sorry, it's the ugly truth, and I'm not being judgemental.

Shouldn't he tell us if he had any real investment when the going was great, earning big money on weekly basis?

Intelligent people read between lines, think and think again before commenting. His plight basically is his riotous lifestyle (he still drinks heavily and does not want to go for rehabilitation), illiteracy and present ill-health and not the divorce.
May this serve as a lesson to the younger ones who think life is always predictable.

Celebrities / Re: Lepacious Bose: "Devil Stole 25 Years Of My Life Due To Weight & Hypothyroidism” by drace(m): 1:04pm On Dec 13, 2017
Just funny there are too many people who pass comments on what they do not have an idea of.
The lady has come out to tell us the medical condition that led to her obesity and the least anyone can do is to support her or keep shut.
Her proper diagnosis and treatment definitely contributed to her weight loss and I am glad for her. Hypothyroidism is not common and can be easily missed by doctors, especially if borderline, unless they specifically look and screen for it.
I wish her the best.
Culture / Re: Osun, Ekiti Highest In Female Genital Mutilation In Nigeria - Experts Lament by drace(m): 9:57am On Nov 01, 2017
Nukilia:
I need some education on this subject... It is believed FGM reduces the level of promiscuity in females. How true is this?

No, it is a myth! It has nothing to do with it.
While it may be true that a woman with mutilated genitals may not enjoy sex as much as those with intact genitals, the woman may actually go in search for satisfaction that she ends up being promiscuous. Meanwhile the woman with intact genitals is easily satisfied and does not look for extra.
And lastly, promiscuity starts from the heart, and not the genitals.

Arabs & hate be like 5&6.

Iranians ain't Arabs. What brings them together is religion and proximity, just like Turks.
Health / Re: I Think I Am Dying! And I Can't Stop It!! by drace(m): 7:03pm On Aug 09, 2017
A prompt visit to a good hospital (emphasis on good hospital, please) is your best bet. I recommend teaching hospitals.
Thinking it is spiritual is definitely a very wrong and unfortunately way to go!
Best wishes.
Health / Re: Lumps Of Fibroids Removed From A Nigerian Woman's Stomach. Graphic Photos by drace(m): 3:24pm On Aug 09, 2017
What is graphic in this? They ain't big, not are they many!
Fibroids are common in women and at least, 2 out of every 5 ladies above 18 years have at least, a few. They hardly do any harm to people with it but if they are symptomatic, they can be very troublesome!
If you have it, speak with your doctor.

I celebrate this great woman.
She is a source of inspiration to the younger generation that they can aspire to greater heights. Even if she passes on today, she has achieved what most will not achieve.
For those who need a college degree, get up and go for it.
For those who ought to go for higher qualifications, go ahead and get it.
Remember that age is but numbers!
Health / Re: Senate Releases List Of 42 Banned Anti-malaria Drugs Still Sold In Nigeria by drace(m): 9:13am On Jul 20, 2017
The reason behind the banning of these medications is because malaria should be treated with 2 different forms of antimalarial medications in fixed combinations (Artemisin based combination therapy).
The medications above are all singular molecules, and may not eliminate the offending organism even though the person with malaria may feel well. This leads to resistant strains of plasmodium which is a time bomb. Strains of resistant plasmodium are already noted in South East Asia due to monotherapy.
In order to avoid a costly catastrophe, the World Health Organisation banned the production and sales of the singular molecules, and hence the decision of the EU to obey. The only sensible thing we can do in Africa is to stop the importation of these singular molecules unto our continent, and confiscate any of such that finds itself unto our land.

Travel / Re: Motorcycle Crushes 300L LAUTECH Student To Death (photos) by drace(m): 11:49am On Jul 04, 2017
The story above did not reflect what actually transpired.
The girl (a student of LAUTECH) left her home in Ilorin to see her brother/school father (whichever one was right because the young chap that identified her mentioned both). She had boarded the motorcycle but the cycle was hit from the rear by the car being driven by another student of LAUTECH who was said to be drunk alongside his friends that were together with him in the car. She suffered multiple fracture and was brought in dead to the Teaching Hospital by another young chap who tried to help. The chap that helped was not allowed to leave the Emergency Room until the men of Nigerian Police came in and the driver of the car admitted he was the one that hit the motorcycle.
The matter is with the Nigerian Police.
