There's something obviously wrong with your view. You cant criticize someone's ignorance and still offer to make the person learn by calling him a fool. How have you made him wiser? If he feels he wants MBBS after BDS, it is within his legal rights to. Hell, I can decide to drop medicine for yoruba edu, its choice, not ignorance. And I think, its better for the nation when the 'knowledgeable' enlighten not criticize the 'ignorants'. Thanks.

Thank God you acknowledged the fact that you diagnose and prescribe medications illegally.you said i should go the the state houses of Assembly and ask but don't you think Nigeria is a lawless country, hence,No body plays by any rules.between you guys and lab scientists, Who's trying to play the doctor's role?Of all health professionals, The pharmacists are a typical example of 'job enroachers'.Every health professional is important and none can be ostracised.

[quote author=rotimileke post=46627995]right from the classroom to the hospital you know deep within you that they work more than you do. on relativity you should have known that you are not on the same scale.
If not in Naija have you ever seen a laboratory scientist comparing himself with a Dr or a pharmacist's?
I've seen a number of them boasting even with their defective knowledge of physiology and biochemistry that they can handle a patient when they know nothing about pathology, pharmacology, toxicology and therapeutics. A nurse is more clinically sound than you are.
I was reading in the common room and one of them approached me challenging my knowledge of pharmacology. I asked her a simple question on the first line drugs used in the management of malaria in Nigeria and she said ACT. I then asked what ACT was and she said tetracycline. I'm a pharmacist and because I want a greater responsibility and role as regards the patient, I got into medical school. Everyone is important in patient care but some comparison are baseless. snd who told you I'm a lab scientist either. For the fact that the our health sector is in shambles doesn't mean I should be blinded with sentiment and hate. And you laying more emphasis on pharmacy purges me.Let me ask you this question; Are you licensed to diagnose ailments or prescribe medications? Absolute No but you guys end up doing this. Is that what you call responsibility? Its called job encroachment' in which every profession is guilty of.

My guy there are ways of weeding out students without going through post UTME. Any prospective student who applied to any institution and scales Jamb's cutoff mark should be offered admission without going through any form of frudulent screening process which we all know has to do with the financial gains to the institutions. If a student is admitted and after the first year in school if he or she does not meet up with the required cut off mark then the school can ask such a student to withdraw. That is how to test a students competence and not through this fraudulent post UTME of a thing. EFCC is watching.. shocked
You're so funny.so you expect schools to admit all the students that beat 200 mark.I used uniben as a typical example in which about 20 thousands candidates might have beat the cut off mark.It can never work.Scrapping jamb will always be the best thing because jamb utme is not really different from gamble.

This shows their insensitivitty to students plight. Government should sanction such institution immediately.
A highly intelligent person will know that post ume is one of the best things to have happened to our education sector. How do you expect schools with high number of candidates to sort out the best?An institution like uniben will always have up to 20thousands who beat the 200 mark.so how do we expect them to admit everyone when their carrying capacity is less than 8k? when jamb starts demoting candidates with high scores to polytechnics, private university, people will grumble.only those that will bribe their way in that will laud this absurb directive. The children of the pleb will definitely suffer.Reduction of pume forms prizes would have been better.

Why jump into conclusion?Mdcn has the final say and they rejected the proposal. We need quality and elongation. And for Direct entry 400/500L issh, that's unreasonable.

EducationRe: What I Think Will Happen If There Won't Be Post-utme by Drdonzeez(m): 5:12pm On Jun 11, 2016
christopheru:
If at the end of the whole saga the government implements "Oral putme" instead of usual putme, it means that the primary list will be based on utme score and this first list will come directly from Jamb via school while other subsequent lists (supplementary lists) will come directly from school via Jamb. Note the difference here.

Now this is what will happen: -
First of all, screening cutoff mark will be reduced to favour good number of aspirants so that much people will take part in the screening in which ever form it will be either via oral or usual putme.
- School will increase the admission cutoff mark after the screening and as a result of this, only few people will be admitted in the primary list which school will send to Jamb for verification and there is a reason for that.
- After the release of primary list, a good number of
aspirants that will be cutoff from the primary list will
definitely go for supplementary admission where only those who will purchase the supplementary form will be eligible to be enrolled in the subsequent supplementary lists.
NOTE: Whether there will be oral putme
or usual putme,
there must be supplementary admission which involves
supplementary form. One of the reasons why government tends to stop
universities from conducting normal putme as usual is
because of extra excess charges some
universities attach to putme. Which ever way the screening goes, universities will still make that money they make during usual putme. Last year august, government brought out what was called single treasury account. A directive given by the Federal Government that all Federal accounts should be linked to ONE account via Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN), so all Federal establiished institutions, companies, business, etc...so long its onwed by the Federal Government will then have one account linked to their various accounts and all payment be made to Federal Government account directly. Some institutions found a way to avoid
that, hence UNN
sold her supplementary form through bank draft. There will always be a way around things so long Nigeria is
concerned.

- One advantage of this new system of putme is that the
"magomago" which some universities do during putme will reduce but same "magomago" will increase during
supplementary admissions. As we know, supplementary lists make up nearly 80% of the admission lists. - People that have what it takes to do the "magomago" will get what they want in the supplementary admission lists even if they perform very poor in the oral screening or putme.

In summary, if oral putme is implemented instead of usual putme: -
Many institutions will cut 180 for the screening.
- Only few will be admitted in the primary list.
- Many will be admitted in the supplementary list because that will be the only option for many that will be cutoff from the primary list. - There may be increase in the amount of supplementary form by some institutions.
- There will be more rooms for sorting of admission as it is used to be. My advice is for everybody to read harder, be prepared to do what you can do and also expect whatever that comes out because there is "change"
When did you turn admission officer? You have few days to prepare o.

I'm telling you bros. I wanted shaking when you mentioned Delsu but later got consoled when you affirmed their accreditation.
I've heard about schools that suffer these things. it's not easy. Benue state uni. spent almost 13 years going after being accredited only to get partial one last year. I also heard of a student who committed suicide after failing his mbbs and being converted to some other course. he was among the pioneer students and the pain was just too much for him; after all the time he had spent already and it just gets on and on that way.

it's not worth it ooooo...
I made my points on last year's thread, many called me names. They were overwhelmed with the new structures being put in place. They don't know mdcn accreditation is very stringent. And the incompetent council will remain mute until things go worse.but like I said earlier, someone must paid the prize. It's not a big deal.

EducationRe: The Reason Post-utme Was Scrapped By FG Revealed by Drdonzeez(m): 11:38pm On Jun 09, 2016
lewispius:
The reason Post-UTME was scrapped by the Federal Government has been
revealed by former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC,
Professor Peter Okebukola.

He said that Nigerian universities deviated from the initial agreement NUC had
with Vice-Chancellors in 2004 when Post-UTME was introduced to screen
candidates via oral interview and written essay.

While further explaining the reasons Post-UTME was scrapped, Professor
Okebukola expatiated on reasons for the introduction of post-UTME in 2014. He
explained that the NUC and the vice-chancellors found out that they needed to
admit into the universities, secondary school leavers who have at least two
characteristics – Cognitive competence and Intuitive sense.

THE REASONS GOVT SCRAPPED POST-UTME SCREENING

The former was tested tested by JAMB while institutions were expected to test the
latter. ‘’JAMB’s UTME targets only the first characteristic; while the university-
level screening should measure the second,’’ he said.

He, however said: ‘’We got the blessing of President Olusegun Obasanjo and the
National Assembly to do the following:

maximum charge to candidates for the exercise should be one thousand Naira
(N1,000),

candidates should be screened not with the kind of test used by JAMB but
through other mechanisms.

According to him, since 2010, both guidelines were ditched by most universities,
stressing that universities were conducting the same tests as JAMB, charging at
least five times the agreed-cost and not conducting oral interviews and essay
screening.

Excerpts: VanguardNGR

So, these are the reasons for scrapping of Post-UTME. Do you think the Federal
Government is justified to do this? Share your thoughts with us!
It's now they are realising a these after 12 good years.funny set of people.
EducationRe: Cancellation Of P-UTME-A Hurriedly Made Decision Which Can Be Counterproductive. by Drdonzeez(m): 12:55pm On Jun 09, 2016
Medley:
It's no longer news that the government has stopped tertiary institutions from organizing P-UTME for students that wish to seek for admission in their institution. Inasmuch as there are a lots of merits to this decision which include and perhaps not limited to the fact that students' who want to seek admission will no longer spend on exhorbitant fees charged by this various institutions that ranges from 2500-10000(Nigerian Naira) and the hassles and stress of travelling to sometimes very far places to write their exams-which is another cost on it's own and the burdening task of applicants looking for how to be accommodated.

I think the cancellation was hurriedly made by the government and should have been announced before JAMB conducted this years UTME. This are my corroborating points:

1. The Government is Tongue Twisting on The decision to fully scrap P-UTME
The Public Relations officer of the Nigerian Universities Commission, Ibrahim Yakasai, as an addendum said the institutions can go along with screening of candidates who wish to be admitted but shouldn't conduct post-UTME. I then ask myself what other meaning is screening?! Do you expect the institution to use their resources to screen students while On the other hand JAMB which is set up by law have already done a screening of which student paid 5000-6000(to register), and what medium will this screening be done? are they going to wirte the answers on the board for the student and how many days will this take?. considering how the screening was done before the advent of P-UTME-some schools tell student to go to their various department applied for and in some instance they are asked 3-5 oral questions that may be logic, general knowledge or P-UTME Subject combinations. Will this be a fair or standard way to select the best? what if the question asked are the areas the applicant is not too good at but has excellent grade on other subject? are we doing experimental probability on the future of our youths. What the scrapping of p-UTME should be seen to be is that the cut-off mark of the departments will be announced and after the submission of the supporting document, the list of admitted candidates announced.

2.The Institutions are yet to announce their cut-off mark for each department and i'm sure(80% chance) that when they do, they will be protest by applicants. The institutions before now will allow for people with scores above 180 or 200 to right their post-UTME(though they do this to make money) but most times some of the people with the not-so-high come with lots of fight and even do far better than those that scored very high in JAMB and when the average of JAMB and P-UTME are added they get admission sometimes on merit(probably may be they were not well graded in the first place by JAMB or they were tested on the wrong subject combination-may be by programming error).

3. The Institutions Were not informed of the decision of the government to do away with P-UTME as seen in the case of Ekiti state University that announced their P-UTME and cancelled it after the announcement of the stoppage of conducting P-UTME by the government. what this imply is that there was a communication gap with the major stakeholders and this is not a good approach of making decisions on issues of national importance. I am not speaking in support of the institutions but they ought to have been informed and it shouldn't have been the other way round of them hearing it when the minister was being interviewed. Majority of the institutions have invested a large sum of their internally generated revenue in buying more computers and other installations so that student can write CBT based Exams(Which they most times do better than JAMB).

4. JAMB should ensure that they provide more exam centers so that student will not be faced with the hassles of traveling too far because center to write the UTME in their closest location is filled to capacity. also, JAMB should make sure student are well tested and graded which can make the result written against any name free from wrong score allocation or poor marking due to errors. if all this is put to place then the result of the student stand alone for the admission process. This years UTME Exams cannot be said to have met this specification, if next year(2016/2017) could be worked upon then we can reach the points were p-UTME Can be cancelled and everybody is happy.

5. The process of registering for p-UTME has made the announcement of admitted candidate by various institutions very fast. Most of the candidate know the school cut-off mark after writing their p-UTME and this has reduced corruption in that regards. The fact that applicants also fill bio-data form and upload their supporting has also made admission process faster.
written by me.

This is my opinion, what's yours?
This man called mallam Adamu is only seeking attention. he wants to be noticed and he has achieved that with no qualm. All those supporting this bizarre initiative may end being at the receiving end. This policy will not only amount to frustration among admission seekers but will also culminate to tension among parents. Now the question is,Is jamb going to send all the names of those that beat the stipulated 180 -200 cut off points to the respective institution? Just imagine a scenario where 20 thousands plus beat the 200 mark for schools like uniben,ui et all,How will they achieve the maximum of 5 thousands that an average institution can accommodate. The children of the rich will always have their way.come to think of it,Is jamb even credible enough? It actually exposed its flaws this year by adding 40 marks to some candidates'.My uncle actually got medicine the first time pume was introduced after 7 good attempts, which he had one of his lowest jamb scores. I don't know why some people think with their anus.

Explain please? you have the info that can help us not errrs, Please
It has come to this notice of the medical and dental council of Nigeria that some newly established medical schools end up admitting students into medicine without getting full accreditation from its council,It has vehemently warned against this several times. This could Actually be said of Delsu,Unibuja and the rest who admitted students into medicine without prior accreditation from the council, hence, subjected their students to frustration and Anxiety.Though, that of delsu has been resolved because they now have full accreditation, while that of uniabuja is nothing short of a collosal failure. It's worthy to note that the pioneer students of delsuth faculty spent 10 years before they graduated from medical school.Uniabuja medical students had spent 8- 10 years, yet, still in 300/400L.Great institutions like uniben ,Oau had suffered the same fate in the past. Now my point is,I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from trying out unimed but the person should it at heart that the journey may not be an exciting one at all. It's synonymous to paying a prize because life itself is a risk .the pioneer medical students of some of these institutions had paid the prize.A medical school without full accreditation doesn't worth the stress.God bless you.

Actually, people need to be educated in this country. I'm still wondering the need for an MBBS after BDS. it's annoying.
The more BDS graduates swap BDS for MBBS,I think the better for the profession.I don't think anyone in his/her senses will do that but It's a Free world actually.
