About us. We are a small research team within a medium research institute working on theoretical and empirical finance and economics/and econometrics. We are hiring one full-time Research Professional to help us revive old and complete active projects. The successful candidates will work with researchers to perform rigorous research.

This is an economics/finance Research position. If you do not have a degree in economics/finance, you would need training to make serious research contributions in economics/finance. We need someone with math/stats/physics/engineering/actuarial (in undergrad preferably) and with economics/finance (in grad education)

Responsibilities
· Build clean, reproducible datasets from traded-return panels; document all code and steps.

· Strong time series and panel analysis skills with Stata, EViews, and can work with Excel. Implement projections, factor construction, and linear/GMM estimators; produce tables/figures in LaTeX.

· Conduct literature reviews, expand and complete existing research projects, and write concise research memos and perform other duties as proposed by researchers

· Maintain strict confidentiality on all projects; manage replication packages, cannot share or discuss ongoing research details with third parties. Cannot discuss research procedure or internal process with anybody.

· Coordinate weekly check-ins, track milestones, and deliverables.

Minimum qualifications
· Previous research experience that is empirically very rich in both time series and panel data work. See more details below.

· Strong LaTeX skills (Overleaf or local).

· Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, actuarial science, or a closely related quantitative field such as economics or finance or engineering with heavy quant training.

· Graduate degree (MSc/MPhil/PhD) in economics, finance, financial mathematics, econometrics, actuarial science, or related.

· Solid programming for empirical work (e.g., Python/R/Matlab/Stata/Eviews), version control (Git).

· Demonstrated research experience (empirical and/or theoretical), ideally 2–5 years.


Preferred qualifications
· Asset-pricing/econometrics/theoretical macro background (factor models, GMM, HAC/Bootstraps), theoretical international finance, or someone who combines abilities in any theoretical area of economics or finance with excellent empirical skills.

· Experience building reproducible pipelines (Make/Snakemake, conda/renv, unit tests).

· Strong writing and communication; able to argue positions with evidence and accept feedback.

Compensation & development
· Monthly Salary: ₦110,000-150,000 (MSc holder) or ₦ 170,000-200,000 (PhD holder). Lots of discretionary bonus if you are good and productive. Internet support of up to ₦10,000 is provided. If successful candidate is a university lecturer, we can provide wages at the current CONUASS scale at the Lecturer II level.

These are starting salaries and they go up very quickly. A million Naira per month salary plus bonus is possible under 10 years.

· Development: If you do not yet have a PhD and intend to pursue one, you will have access to our online PhD prep courses at no cost, plus support for standardized tests and application fees to top PhD programs worldwide, but particularly in North America. The value of this support is up to ₦5,500,000 accessible only by pre-PhD students after 2 years of outstanding research support with us. Competitive applicants for this support are pre-PhD and typically rank at the top of their cohort (e.g., GPA near the top of the scale or at the very top of the scale for both BSc and MSc). Past students from our program have been placed at the top 10 US universities (this is near impossible in PhD economics or finance or financial engineering, especially for students with degrees from Africa; in Africa, we are one of the two or three that have managed to do that). Successful applicants with already a PhD do not qualify for this additional graduate support support.

Work arrangement
· Full-time, remote. Initial 2-month contract. High productivity will lead to contract extension and salary elevation. Low productivity can lead to immediate release. Job requires consistent availability and daily progress on assigned tasks.

· Start date: ASAP (flexible).

If the selected candidate also works as a TA in the teaching section of our institute, he or she will earn additional wages (7,000 Naira per hour of teaching).
