Celebrities / BREAKING!! FG Considering Scrapping National Youth Service Corps! (see Why) by drewlious114: 6:09pm On May 24, 2021

The House of Representatives is considering discontinuation of the National Youth Service Corps scheme in Nigeria.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and the development of the country.

Created on 22 May 1973 as an avenue for the reconciliation, reconstruction, and rebuilding of the nation after the civil war. It was established based on decree No. 24 that stated that the scheme was created “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”.

There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year. This is known as national service year. Ahmadu Ali served as the first Director-General of the NYSC until 1975.

But right now, the House of Representatives is considering discontinuation of the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

The sponsor, Mr Awaji-Inombek Abiante, in the explanatory memorandum of the proposal, listed the various reasons why the NYSC should be scrapped.

It read in part, “This bill seeks to repeal Section 315(5)(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended) on the following grounds:

“Incessant killing of innocent corps members in some parts of the country due to banditry, religious extremism and ethnic violence; incessant kidnapping of innocent corps members across the country;

“Public and private agencies/departments are no longer recruiting able and qualified Nigerian youths, thus relying heavily on the availability of corps members who are not being well remunerated and get discarded with impunity at the end of their service year without any hope of being gainfully employed;

“Due to insecurity across the country, the National Youth Service Corps management now gives considerations to posting corps members to their geopolitical zone, thus defeating one of the objectives of setting up the service corps, i.e. developing common ties among the Nigerian youths and promote national unity and integration.”

So guys what’s your take on this?

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has said change is “good for everyone” in the biggest hint that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
Although Los Blancos still stand a chance of winning LaLiga, they have endured a largely disappointing campaign.

Pressure has been growing on Zidane ever since Chelsea eliminated them from the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

The Frenchman was asked about his future ahead of his side’s crucial game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

“The answer is very boring. There are two games left. I don’t know what will happen after that.

“Anything could happen. This is Real Madrid. People think I would quit because I don’t want responsibility when things get complicated. That is not true. Everything I do I do to my best.

“There comes a time when there must be change because it could be good for everyone. Sometimes you must be there and other times you must leave for the good of everyone,” Zidane said.

Crime / The EFCC Warns Nigerians About Bitcoin, Forex Trade, And Other Financial Instrum by drewlious114: 1:52pm On May 10, 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuekZ1AqG-M

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cautioned Nigerians against investing in what it describes as “too good to be real” investments.
Though some belief risk-taking to be the oxygen that drives investment decisions, the commission warns the public against taking an uncontrolled risk in the hope of making a fortune. Investment in Bitcoin, for example, is a high-risk practice, according to the anti-graft regulator, since the market is essentially uncontrolled and vulnerable to theft.

Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, issued the notice in Abuja, said the commission was concerned about the pace at which Nigerians are filing complaints with the anti-corruption body about dubious investments that offer high returns with little risk to investors.

Nigerians are losing billions to Ponzi scams, forex speculation, and, most recently, Bitcoin trading, according to the EFCC, compounding the country’s economic woes.

According to an EFCC spokesperson, the pattern shows that investment scams continue to prosper amid the commission’s and other stakeholders’ compliance and public education efforts. While the EFCC will continue to pursue and convict those involved in illegal investment schemes, the buying public must exercise caution in their decisions.

The number of groups or individuals generally, who are involved in the possible illegal actions might be high due to the characteristic of the process. It involves a lot of stakeholders and sometimes they are assisted with the proper help.

In this case, brokerage companies play a crucial role in the process and their number is growing from day to day. Due to the fact that we are offered a plethora of brokerage companies, it makes the decision-making process more difficult, to find authentic and verified companies, such as FBS, for example, that have a long experienced period on the market.

It is true that today’s technologies and the internet have made it easier to share information, experience, and opinion about any matter, and find the proper brokerage company from the list of the best online forex brokers, which is believed to be the best way as of today, with reading the proper reviews about them as well.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has reminded civil society and non-governmental organizations that any transaction across structured financial platforms exceeding $10,000, as well as any cash contributions exceeding $1,000, must be reported to the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML).

Ahmed Ghali, the Head of the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Office, announced this in Ikeja, Lagos, at a seminar co-hosted by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), and warned that failure to do so is illegal.

In a paper titled The Role of NGOs and CSOs in Countering Terrorism Financing in Nigeria, Ghali cautioned that any organization that allows itself to be used as a weapon for money laundering or terrorism financing in Nigeria would face severe consequences.

Because of their diverse funding streams and capacity to process vast sums of cash to beneficiaries whilst still routinely transferring

In an interview, she revealed that she felt different among her peers and also experienced racial prejudice when she moved to the United Kingdom at age 13.
Popular disc jockey and billionaire heiress, Cuppy has revealed that she experienced racism when she moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 13.

Racism is one of the dangerous things every black person has faced in foreign countries.

DJ Cuppy is not the only Nigerian celebrity who has experienced racism growing up in the midst of white children. Artists like Davido, Tiwa Savage, and many others have shared their own piece of how they nearly bleached their skin due to how uncomfortable they were amongst their peers.

In an interview with one of the media houses in the UK, DJ Cuppy told the host on the show how she felt different among her peers and also experience racial prejudice when she moved to the United Kingdom at age 13.

She disclosed how difficult it was for her because she never faced racism in Nigeria because everyone was black.

“For me, it was very difficult because growing up in Nigeria, I didn’t really experience racism,” she said. “My teachers were black, the doctors were black, lawyers were black. So, moving to the UK, and especially moving to the US, is really where I started to notice the disparity and where I really started to experience racism.”

“The minute I moved here, from thirteen in boarding school, I always realized. It was pointed out that I looked different, I sounded different, my background was different, my culture was different. And no amount of money, no amount of positioning can ever change that.”

She added that in spite of what many think, she still has to “kick down doors” in the entertainment industry.

Turkish government to track crypto transactions over $1,200 NEWS
Crypto exchanges with a presence in Turkey must now inform the Financial Crimes Investigation Board, or MASAK, about any crypto transactions over 10,000 Turkish liras ($1,200).

Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Lütfi Elvan announced the new policy on a CNN Turk live broadcast last night.

Two weeks after a $150-million fraud involving a major crypto exchange in Turkey, Elvan shared updates on the government’s draft crypto regulation on live TV. Turkey’s central bank has defined crypto as a nonmonetary asset and banned the use of cryptocurrency as a form of payment.

Elvan noted that the second step was to grant MASAK the authority to audit and oversee crypto exchanges.

According to Elvan, MASAK has prepared a guideline for crypto exchanges that includes the rules and penalties for reporting transactions.

“MASAK has full audit authority over crypto exchanges,” Elvan said. “Crypto trading platforms are now obliged to share the information of their active users with MASAK. They are liable for any suspicious activities on their platforms. They are also responsible for notifying MASAK about any transactions worth over 10,000 Turkish liras in 10 days after the trading.”

Elvan announced that a legal draft has been prepared in cooperation with the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, Capital Markets Board and Revenue Administration under the presidency of the deputy minister, as Cointelegraph reported last month.

According to Elvan, opinions from local experts and crypto exchange representatives were also taken during the study. The final draft will be soon ready for approval by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he added.

In April, Cointelegraph reported that Turkish police detained 62 people following the Thodex crypto exchange fraud. According to the local experts, Turkey needs a clear regulation and fair taxing regarding crypto to avoid further victimization of local crypto users.

Technology Market / Clubhouse Monetisation Plan, New NIN Deadline, Google Vs Oracle by drewlious114: 12:23pm On Apr 07, 2021

Clubhouse monetisation plan, new NIN deadline, Google vs Oracle

Clubhouse’s monetisation plan

Extended NIN-SIM linkage deadline

Google versus Oracle

Quick notice: On the Friday, April 2, 2021 edition of the Techpoint Digest, we explored Nigeria’s NIN prison clause, and mentioned a 14-year jail term. However, we discovered, upon closer review, that Nigeria’s ICT minister didn’t specify a prison term. The 14 years in question addressed how long ago the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) was established.

Now that you can make money on Clubhouse

Photo by William Krause on Unsplash

Techcrunch reported that popular live audio app, Clubhouse announced that it would soon introduce a monetisation feature. However, the platform has nothing to gain from it.

The payment feature will allow users to tip their favourite speakers, but Clubhouse doesn’t get anything from this; the speakers get all the money. However, Stripe, the payment gateway, gets a card processing fee.

This takes me back to the discussion Emmanuel and I had last week about Clubhouse’s plans to give investors returns on the investments.

If you missed it, you can find it here.

Has the customer-centric approach gone too far? Most companies that consider this monetisation strategy over ads often take a commission on every donation or sale. But Clubhouse’s end game isn’t quite clear, so feel free to take a guess.

Although this feature is not creator-friendly, we hope subsequent ones will allow creators to make money. Because as it is, Clubhouse has dismissed the idea of introducing ads.

VC money can only take you so far, and if the one-year-old startup doesn’t start generating revenue soon, it might need to raise another round. Who said investment excitement about the startup is gone?

Deadline extended for NIN-SIM linkage

Nigerians are now expected to get their National Identification Number (NIN) and link it to their phone numbers before May 6, 2021. This is the third deadline since December 2020.

Maybe it will soon be over, maybe not. It is clear that mobile operators are having a terrible time with the suspended SIM sales and registration. They are obviously counting their losses.

The bright side? The federal government has made more progress with assigning NINs in 4 months than it has in the last 13 years. Maybe this is partly due to the involvement of telcos and private companies. With 51 million subscribers covered, it remains to be seen how many more can be recorded in one month.

Will the time given ever be sufficient to cover the remaining 17 million subscribers? Will the government eventually take the drastic move of shutting down millions of mobile subscribers’ accounts? Time will tell.

MTN’s banking dispute

MTN Nigeria has reverted commercial banks’ commission for airtime recharge to 4.5% after Nigerian banking and communication regulators intervened in its dispute with banks.

The disagreement began after MTN reduced the percentage it remits to the banks for each amount airtime purchase from 4.5% to 2.5%. In response, most Nigerian banks removed MTN from their platforms.

MTN announced that its users could recharge through fintech companies like Kuda, Flutterwave, and OPay, among others.

This saga, a few weeks after a USSD dispute between banks and telcos, raises a lot of questions. Meanwhile, check out the full story here.

Google vs Oracle: Copyrights on APIs

Are application programming interfaces (APIs) subject to copyright? This was the question on my mind as a US court ruled in favour of Google in its decade-long case with Oracle over the use of Java.

The multibillion-dollar dispute: In 2011, Oracle sued Google for $9 billion for copying the structure, sequence, and organisation of 37 Java APIs into Android.

Then, Google argued that APIs, like the alphabet or grammar, are the fundamental elements used to create programs.

Who owns Java? Java was originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems and was published in 1995.

Oracle’s acquisition of  Sun Microsystems on January 27, 2010, made it the owner of the Java

Fun fact: Based on CodingDojo’s analysis of Indeed’s data, Java has been second only to python as the most in-demand programming language for the past ten years.

On Microsoft’s GitHub, it ranks among the top three most popular languages alongside Python and JavaScript.

The court’s ruling: In a 6-2 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that “Google’s copying of the API to reimplement a user interface, taking only what was needed to allow users to put their accrued talents to work in a new and transformative program, constituted a fair use of that material.”

This ruling certainly has ripple effects for software development across the globe. While it’s difficult to determine if APIs are subject to copyright, the fair usage clause is something most parties will agree on.

Celebrities / Gov Wike Gifts Burna Boy Money & Land, Gifts Other Artistes N10m Each In P.H by drewlious114: 12:37pm On Mar 28, 2021

The governor announced that he was very proud of all the artistes who performed on the night. Grammy award-winning artiste, Damini Ogulu who is better known as Burna Boy, was gifted N10million, alongside other musicians who performed at a homecoming party in Port Harcourt organized in his honor by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Other reports say he was also given a plot of land to build for himself a home. Burna Boy is of Rivers descent, even though he’s lived most of his life in Nigeria’s southwestern, Yoruba-speaking state of Lagos. During the closing moments of an event where Burna Boy, the governor and most other attendees were not wearing face masks in a COVID-19 stricken world, Wike said:- “Those of you who have come to play, whatever you have agreed with the ministry of culture and tourism is not my business. “All of you that have come today and the Niger Delta people that have come to today to show the talent you have, I’m very proud of you. All of you will go home with N10million each,” he added to loud cheers from the audience. Watch the Video below:- At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards held on Sunday, March 14, 2021, two Nigerians Burna Boy and Wizkid, grabbed some of the coveted trophy on offer.

Investment / Spending On A Woman You're Dating Is Not Generosity,it Is Stupidity-reno by drewlious114: 6:14pm On Mar 24, 2021

tells men Reno Omokri has told the men that spending money on a woman they are not related or married to just because they are in a relationship is not generosity but foolishness. Reno in a post shared on his Instagram page earlier today had written that it is not proper for a man to even give gifts to a woman he isn't married to. ''A foolish man asked me if it is right to take back gifts you gave to your ex. I said he is asking the wrong question. The right question is, should you give expensive gifts to a woman you are neither married or relate yes to? No. Who appointed you as Santa Claus? Prevention is better than cure. Don’t do it! There is nothing wrong in buying your wife even a diamond studded phone. But why be so stupid as to buy a girlfriend a phone? Phone that she will use to call her new boyfriend if she dumps you? And if you have the audacity to complain, she can even block you with the phone you bought. Be wise, not nice!'' An IG user, @stellaababy_ saw his post and left a comment which reads ''President of Stingy Men Association'' Responding to the comment, Reno said he isn't stingy and went on to state why men who give money to women they are dating are ''stupid.'' According to him, many African men settle for older white women because those women don't require financial maintenance. ''Dear @stellaababy_, Those who call me chairman of Stingy Men Association don’t understand the meaning of stinginess. Please research. I gave out ?2.3 million as palliatives during the #COVID19 lockdown. Spending on women you are neither married or related to, just because you are dating them, is not generosity. It is stupidity. Why should men give a woman money? Where do you see it in Scripture? Entitlement has totally messed up your mentality. If a man wants to be generous, he spends on the poor, not on women who have high maintenance cost as well as high nuisance value to you. This is the main reason too many young Black African men are marrying older White women. Because they are pleasantly surprised that there are women who don’t require financial maintenance. Our women must stop being feminist that still want men’s monies! That is not feminism. That is moneyism!

Could A Lady Leave A Serious Relationship Because Of Frequent Sex?
Posted by Daniel. on Mar 22, 2021 This question keeps ringing in my head after a girl is dating for close to two months stopped picking my calls and didn’t reply to my text even going as far as blocking my number with the phone I gave her. … And the reason why I gave her the phone was because she’s complaining that her exs’ are still disturbing her and her phone doesn’t have the block option. Glory is her name, and she is from Delta, and we never had a quarrel neither did we fight. Well, I’ve taken back my phone though it was a hard thing for me cos I was hoping that she will come back to her senses. Please have anyone experienced this, you dated a girl and got her a phone and after 2 days she stopped picking your calls neither will she reply to your text. Is that a sign of multi personal disorder? By the ways we had sex on various occasions, there was a time we had sex for like 30 days straight. So, this got me thinking could it be as a result of excessive sex that she left? Guys;- Could A Lady Leave A Serious Relationship Because Of Frequent Sex?

I want to urge the new chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa to ensure that his agency concludes investigation in cases before dragging suspects to court. He should redeem the image of youths as the youngest man to be appointed by the Federal Government of Nigeria to head the anti-graft commission by ensuring that his fight against corruption is not selective. The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, should allow the newly-appointed EFCC boss to step on toes if truly we want to fight corruption in Nigeria. The EFCC in the past, succeeded in convicting many fraudsters but has been unable to convict politicians. Bawa should beam his searchlight on politicians and public office holders and uphold international best practices in fighting graft. The EFCC needs to use capable criminal lawyers in drafting charges so the charges can hold before a court of competent jurisdiction. Many Nigerians are wallowing in abject poverty because money meant for developmental projects end up in private pockets. The EFCC should step up its game and warn his men, particularly the investigators, to consult their legal department for advice before putting any suspect in detention. Also, he should note that debt recovery is not part of the EFCC job. Recently, Justice Iyabo Yerima of Oyo State High Court slammed the EFCC with the fine of N200, 00 0 for violation of human rights because it was not part of its job to recover debt from any suspect. Bawa should ensure that under his watch, the EFCC follows the rule of law. I wish him a successful tenure in office.

Politics / Politicians Have A Lot To Learn From Church Leaders - Osinbajo Vice President by drewlious114: 11:22am On Mar 21, 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTb9HiWALrg

has said that politicians have a lot to learn from the church in the interest of the country. Osinbajo said this when he spoke at the inauguration and commencement of duty service of the 8th President of Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, Pastor Samuel Oladele, which held at the All Saints Chapel, C.A.C. General Secretariat, Bashorun, Ibadan, Oyo state on Saturday, March 20. Represented at the occasion by the Aso Rock Chaplain, Rev.Seyi Malomo, Osinbajo said “I want to commend the Christ Apostolic Church for the smooth process, which has brought the inauguration of the president because this is the way it should be. Certainly, there is a lot for politicians to learn from the church on how to conduct elections without rancor. My prayer for the new president is that his tenure will record greater success in Jesus’ name. I also want to thank the outgoing president for his infallible service to CAC, for the years of glorious and faithful service. You have managed the affairs of CAC with integrity, maturity, and fatherly understanding. May Almighty God preserve you for many more years in strength and good health to enjoy your fruit of labour. The anointing of God in this church has made it such that the humblest of men, even the least educated, can bring the good news of delivering the oppressed from unseen spirits and even raising the dead. Apostle Ayo Babalola remains a testament to this fact.”
