Romance / *why Nigerians Don't Speak English* by drezo(m): 2:04pm On Mar 07, 2018 |
Well.....I'm just wondering why Nigerians don't use English in most negotiations and when you decide to market your services in English the majority of the population would perceive grandiloquence.....and it's so painful to see people who use pidgin in their businesses prospering faster than one who can comfortably communicate in Good English....even when you say things they suspect you might be fraudulent you would see the unrest and sometimes disbelief in their eyes.....but notice when you use pidgin they quickly trust you and feel relaxed even want more familiarity than just in business..and this gradually destroys your command of English as frequent use of one language discontinues your growth in the other.....makes me wonder.....does it mean unadulterated English is stress to the brain of a Nigerian....like he can't think normal when he speaks english even if there were little mistakes....and this is not exclusive to the uneducated.....even the graduate CEO's only use English in interviews after which SOME would switch to pidgin...makes it difficult to understand your familiarity with them.....and I noticed....i'm more sane, sincere, loving, humorous understanding with simple English BUT I can't even chyke a girl with PIDGIN but once I hear pidgin, I hear street...I feel anything goes and see peace and a sense of gentleman leaving the conversation, at that point I could expect that person to say things not expected of any mannered person...it would have been better if pidgin was another language then i would know and it would be cool.......but to know that Nigerians speak it because English is like stress is something....makes me try to figure the life we embraced....having to spend many years learning to speak a language very well only to spend the rest of your life speaking it wrongly is laughable lol ...and now here is the problem I want you people to help me with.... this makes it difficult for me to fit into this society.....difficult to connect with people.......because sometimes I meet people like myself and when I use pidgin they see me like I see others...some say it doesn't fit me....then I speak English to some and they see me like trying to impress....and being FAKE.....of course these are the ones who prefer pidgin....and the danger is once you speak pidgin at first meetings you could be making wrong impressions if it's with an English speaker...and vice versa...and you could be misread so much that what they think of you would be far from what you are.....and in my many work places of the past.....this is a major problem........so I would like to know what language you use at your work places and how you MANAGE your ENGLISH TO PIDGIN switches from WORK to FRIENDS....(as I know most of us speak dialect with family) and signals that tells you switch to this or to that and you don't get misunderstood.....though I wished we embraced English and our local dialect....than pidgin.....because to me....as it is.....Nigeria is Really NOT an ENGLISH speaking Country since majority use pidgin in businesses and informal conversations....and it's gradually leading many African countries in the same..... Thank you.

They both are ambiguous and as such, have same interpretation, depends on the context. This analysis is quite unnecessary and is apparently nonetheless incorrect. 1 Like |

Exciton: I wouldn't disapprove of that story, as it's very easy to imagine what it's like to take the position of those kids, afterall everyone was a kid, but not every one of us were as abusive as those kids especially to a man of God, that is if some were abusive at all.....BUT you see, if you were reborn 10 times to relive your life here on earth, you can NEVER imagine what it's like to be ELISHA, you can never know what it's like to be in his shoes, because your lazy ass can't serve God, even if you did, you won't be as COMMITTED as ELISHA, you would only be useful if serving God had to do with sexual promiscuity, clubbing and getting drunk. You can never relate with ELISHA'S REALITY, being a prophet or pastor is different from being a church going carnal christian. Plus the fact he just lost Elijah, someone whom he had been with since his life, abandoned his everything to follow, is all of a sudden, taken from him, then some "48" kids gathered to mock him, how old are those kids by the way? It's highly probable the mockery has been a continuous practice, before they met judgement, for I don't see how 48 kids would gather to mock one man only once. And how did they manage to gather to mock one MAN?. It's people like you who appear overly empathetic on social platforms that commit the WORST crimes in any environment they find themselves, people who ACT as if they have the interest of everyone at heart and can't hurt a fly are usually the most selfish and dubious, I won't be surprised if your hands were already stained with blood, or if you're not into some shady dealings. Even if God came down from heaven and killed those children himself, I won't see him less loving than he has proven to be...YES!.. Afterall he has power to undo and he's all knowing, and have access to more knowledge than i do, so my judgment would be inferior and inadequate than his own judgement in EVERY case, plus if I recognize life is given by God, why should I question his judgment? He could give life back if he wants to.. To hell with you and whatever you have to say plus every Numbskull that supports you. I have not READ from an UNBELIEVER or people like you for once, where you insult God for SACRIFICING his ONLY SON for your sinful ass, a punishment you ought to bear, if you were such a kind hearted person, you ought to ADVISE God against giving up his INNOCENT SON..... Since you feel you know as much as he does and can CONDEMN him on the mauling of your SINFUL unrepentant KIDS, don't you think you ought to say "it's a wrong move for God to allow his INNOCENT only Son to die for you, since you know you would Still go back to Sin again? " don't you think you should be asking God "Why did you let that happen?" And find that more barbaric that an innocent person who was and is God, was permitted to go and die by hanging on a tree, than the death of some guilty mortals Scums of society. |

for the fact that you went on to explain "REAL BAD people" just reveals how much education your parents were able to afford drat!!!! You're insensitive. If you say no ONE is SAINT, don't you think you indirectly imply "no one deserve punishment" do I need to spell it out for you? 48 kids gathered to mock one man, not one kid, not two kids, not three kids, "48" ? And you think their families aren't aware or no adult saw them, and you think they don't deserve to die especially for the fact NO ONE is a SAINT, then why do you think there are REAL bad people who actually deserve to DIE?? Do I need to help you figure this? Since one is justified or guilty on the basis of sainthood, it implies NO one deserves to die regardless of what they have done, because the punishment won't be carried out by a SAINT judge or a SAINTpolice orderly, neither are the witnesses at the court room SAINT themselves..... That's the simple LOGIC in your statement when you said the prophet wasn't a SAINT himself, I hope your brain can bear this I bet if God weren't a saint himself you would also say he doesn't have the moral right to punish anybody. Well, I prefer a God who gave a commandment, and since leadership is by example, he came down in form of MAN, eating and drinking and living a Godly life among sinners, even visiting them, to prove a point, that he can himself obey his commandments in a sinful world, that he isn't just imposing it on us. Not an empty TALKER like you, with no RECORD whatsoever, a faceless nobody, everything you say henceforth ought to be dismissed as irrelevant and arrant horse-shit. You condemn Christ and God, yet you wish to find Christ in me, the very person you say is detrimental to society ahahaha how ridiculous...... You have used many pejorative and highly belittling terminology to describe God YET you feel you're innocent and don't deserve the name calling ? What version of brain are you using, is your brain an obsolete application software? because i'm trying to figure out why you're intellectually lazy and slow, you don't read deeper meaning to statements, you make thesis, abandon them, and make new ones in the next comment, you don't see other side to things, you're just a weakling afraid to take responsibility for his actions, seeking for a God to bear all his burdens even when he break rules........every name I called you is based on discovery, I wasn't just trying to intimidate you. Obviously your argument lacks sufficient rectitude, NOT mine, you haven't made any point I haven't sufficiently proven stupid, if you fail to see that, it could be as a result of your narrow-mindedness......you being a parochialist. When you say something, try to remember them .......at least. And when you read my comment, understand they are nestedly related, each one shedding more light on the previously stated. For example, in this comment, I was able to expose how slimy you are, how dumb you are, your inability to see beyond your nose, and your ALMIGHTY Hypocrisy, if you don't see any true statement suggesting lack of harmony in your reasoning to support each inclusive discovery, then this is where I have to say REAL goodbye |

Gracious007: Why bash God like that? If you love man, more than God, why haven't you sacrificed yourself yet?? I would rather believe in a God, that cares so much about his creatures to the extent of giving his only son to die for men, than hear a Selfish, hypocritical, self deluded, self-contradicting, dyslexic slowpoke rant about his care for humanity through social media.... TALK IS CHEAP, and with the current market value of naira yours is CHEAPER... You say God is bored and yet he doesn't have time to respond to you misearable on Nairaland?? You say "NO ONE is a SAINT" yet you believe there are wicked people who actually DESERVE punishment, REAL BAD people What about FAKE BAD people? Do you read your comments at all?? God is better than YOU, he has no respect for persons. And bad things doesn't ALWAYS happen to good people, you cannot prove this? So don't say it. AND if Jesus says he's not worthy to be considered GOOD except God, then I think your standard of good is very much lower than that of God. I said it, if you were a god you would probably compete with Satan. You're greedy, selfish, and very much SLIMY, a manipulative pretender. Try to feed yourself first and leave God alone. And I don't support jungle justice, that's even a stupid thing to imagine. |

He lost track of the beat just immediately after the first chorus, whack! Song! The producer did a whack! Job, and shouldn't make a penny off this job. Try to sing that song along with him after the first chorus, and the beat would throw you off completely. This review is for "life hood". All I can say is he should be brushed up, and he would probably need a touch of don jazzy to make any sense, or alternatively, those in his league. it's more of a free style, than it is a song track. . |

Gracious007: I have taken time to observe and read your comments and I have come to the conclusion that, you're a frustrated person, the invisible taskmasters of Nigeria's recession must reside with you ..... Probably because you've read a few literature books doesn't guarantee you qualify to hold an opinion on matters regarding the bible. There are two sides to everything, if the parents of those unfortunate disrespectful children had leashed their kids with Godly morals they wouldn't have mocked a "MAN OF GOD" which led to their destruction, this is one out of many lessons in that story, just as you mock God, calling him a brute.......same did those kids to a man of God, and you know the rest of the story, most people begging for UNITY are the most SLIMY and unstable in their ways, very UNSURE of the part they have chosen, if you were such an educated person, you ought to know that with the provisions of the constitution that allows Freedom of religion, speech, choice et cetera it's expected that people would hold different belief system and opinions, even culture and way of life in a designated environment; would you give people freedom and not expect them to use it? To defer in perspective?? If you believe in NOTHING, I have no problem with that, you would live and die, and i won't oppress you, but if it offends you that I believe in SOMETHING or SOMEONE, then you're insecure......you need help!......have you read about the indigo children Most of those kids possess unnatural abilities that refutes the laws of physics and chemistry, do you mind explaining, since you're a master of REASON and LUCK At least you believe in LUCK, is that quantifiable Is it mathematically verifiable that someone has LUCK before something Good actually happens to them? Do you see how confused you are now? Like my friend would say, life isn't only black and white, there are shades of grey! But your case is so especial, you're blind to both the former. Mind you, BLIND bartimeaus was born BLIND so Jesus could meet him in his time, and HEAL him, "we are nothing but pencils in the hands of the creator" Gracious007, if you were a god, you would be the most petty, greedy and wicked god to ever have a name and you would be so miserable you would have neither worshippers nor servants. |

It's obviously beyond marketing, in fact marketing is not even the major responsibility of the office, except you don't understand ENGLISH, if only they knew their broadcast would reach an illiterate majority, i can safely bet they would have used less grammatical terms which would only suggest an abbreviated requirement of what is needed for the job. |
