Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, who is currently on set a movie, has began the year in a good note as she was recently unveiled as a brand ambassador of Dubai Afrika Sickle Cell Project.

The project is aimed curbing the increase of Sickle Cell patients in the country as well provide them with basic amenities for their daily survival.

While making the announcement, the actress revealed that she had lost her elder sister to the sickness and she sure knows how it feels to lose a loved one without being able to help.

According to her, “Am glad to be doing this with dubaiafrika. I lost my elder sister to Sickle cell and you don’t know what it was like watching her helpless going through all those crisis hmmmmmm! Joy Aigbe continue to R.I.P.”
She warned lovers who are about to settle down to know their genotype before saying “I do” to each other as to avoid unforeseen circumstance.

“They say love conquers all, but not in this case. We encourage you to Know your genotype before saying I do. Save the future. If you truly love each other; don’t get married or make babies if genotypes don’t tally,” she wrote.

The Lagos State Ministry of Health has reported not less than four suspected cases of Lassa fever in the state, three of which have tested negative to the disease and one confirmed primary contact quarantined.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who confirmed the suspected cases in Lagos in a statement made available to Tribune Online, said that three of the four suspected cases were reported by the Mainland Hospital and General Hospital in Mushin and that further laboratory tests released on Tuesday had ascertained all three suspects negative of Lassa virus, the cause of Lassa fever, while the quarantined suspect is a primary contact of the confirmed case in Rivers State who lives in Lagos.
Dr Idris further stated that the primary contact, alongside other secondary contacts, had been placed on close monitoring, but maintaining that none had manifested symptoms of the disease while they are placed under investigation.
"The first suspected case is a 47-year-old woman who was referred to General Hospital, Mushin, from a private health facility (Alafia Tayo Maternity Home) on January 7 with three days history of sore throat, frequent watery stooling of eight hours duration, difficulty in breathing of one hour duration and widespread hemorrhages on the body.
"Patient later died a few minutes after reaching the hospital. However, result of laboratory investigation (blood) later released was negative for Lassa fever.
"The second suspected case, a 31-year-old woman from Nasarawa State, was referred from a private hospital to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, on account of the following symptoms she developed on January 4: fever, sore throat, abdominal pain, discharge from the eyes, bleeding in the vagina, passage of bloody urine, anal bleeding and haemoptysis. Result of laboratory investigation (blood) was negative for Lassa fever.
"The third suspected case, a 24-year-old housemaid who returned from Taraba State, was brought by her relations to Mainland Hospital, Yaba on January 8 on account of fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. Result of laboratory investigation (blood) was negative for Lassa fever.
"However, one of the primary contacts of the confirmed case in Rivers State who resides in Lagos is presently being monitored along with her contacts (secondary contacts). All the contacts as of the time of this briefing are apparently healthy," he said.
In response to the delayed report, the commissioner said that the ministry had to wait for laboratory confirmations before going public.
He also assured of the state government's commitment to tackle the fever, while calling on the general public to maintain healthy and rodent-free environment as well as to quickly report patients with symptoms of the disease to the local government area or the ministry of health.
