What happened to the Hippocratic oath taken when you were enrolled by the medical council? Or, this doesn't happen in Nigeria anymore?
maybe u should be asked this jamb question..1.what is hippocratic oath?
2.what is physicians oath?
3.what is the difference between the two questions above
if u pass these jamb questions, then you will understand that doctors are humans, with families and mouth to feed..sometimes their close relatives ends up in the hospital that eats up thousands of naira, sometimes millions.some of them have wives who had cs done...they had to cough out the money..some of them have extremely terminally sick relatives that requires a whole lot of money to bring the sick back to the land of the living..some of them have even been on hospital bed to manage their own personal ailment....they are human..yes the profession has an element of humanitarianism in it....but also serve as a means to a livelihood..its this livelihood part most people fail to understand

If accumulating wealth is what you are looking for after studying medicine then u are in for a ride. A medical degree can only make u sufficient but not rich.
wealth is relative, in any case , In a country where things work..doctors are supposed to live way above average.so if he has the intention of eating on the alter that he has sacrificed for 7yrs plus x in medical school and a num of years after medical school so as to be able to do things averagely..then he should gp ahead. .there is no law against that.only those who are unenlightened will make the conclusion of doctors treating patient for free..when they have nuclear and extended family on ground.
cs for 120k..its very cheap for a private ilhospital sef

HealthRe: NMA suspends strike.....Live Update Of NMA Emergency Delegate Meeting At Abuja. by DrLuv: 7:56pm On Aug 26, 2014
onyxo76: As we suspend d Dr's strike....
A little eye opener to d populace...
1. As a university is to d edu sector, so is hospital to d health sector
2. When u finish in d uni, u become a graduate and u get a degree based on ur discipline... B Sc, B Ed, B Pharm or MBBS! MBBS degree is to d medical Dr's
3. Some graduates work as university lectures as graduate assistants, some others work somewhere else. Most Dr's work with a hospital!
4. Some lectures are employed with Bachelor's degrees, others with higher degrees. Whichever way, u might decide to further ur edu or not. Dr's are employed with MBBS degree and u also decide to further ur edu or not.
5. A Bachelor or Master's degree holder picks up a Master's or Phd form respectively if they desire to further. A Dr picks up a Master's form or go into residency!
6. A lecturer teaches undergraduates and at d same time gets trained by Professors and Phd holders experienced in their chosen field. A resident Dr teaches medical students and at d same time gets trained by Professors and Consultants in d different fields of medicine based on their chosen path.
7. The successful lecturers in training become Master's degree holders or Phd holders as d case may be... Successful residents become consultants! None of the above achieved these lofty heights by years spent in d civil service but by hard work! CONSULTANTS IN HOSPITAL PASS THRU RESIDENCY, they dont become one by counting YEARS OF SERVICE!
8. A lecturer continues to lecture, undergoes his training and he gets paid...cos he's working! A resident continues to work, undergoes his training and he gets paid...cos he's working!
9. ASUU went on strike, lecturers furthering their education were not sacked. NMA went on strike, residents were sacked!
10. During ASUU strike, NASU/SAANU didn't ask d FG to stop salary of lecturers on training on d ground that are under training. During NMA strike, JOHESU cohorts were asking d FG to stop resident's salaries! After all, they are under training!!!
11. Whereas a university lecturer gets a 30k hazard allowance monthly, a Naija medical Dr gets 5k
12. Whereas a lecture is allowed to spend many years training while in service, a resident has a limited time to spend for his training during which he has a maximum of 3 attempts at each step of his training or he gets relocated(a more civil way to describe a resident's sack)
13. Whereas a university lecturer is entitled to retirement benefits (even while still on training) should he retire or die, a resident Dr has no such benefits(what happens to d resident's family should he die in d course of his training?) And now our residents are going to face EBOLA, with 5K monthly hazard allowance having it at d back of their minds that they av no benefits should they die in service!
14. All successful lecturers in training gets promoted following their successful training within d same university except d ones that choose not to stay. And what happens to a successful resident? He gets back to d labour market except d few ones that are retained.
...and yet Nigerian doctors are seen to be wicked and proud!
I think the case now is d 'fattest' dog eats d 'patient' bone!
But cheer up hippocratic brothers, LIONS MAY SOMETIMES GO HUNGRY, THEY WILL NEVER EAT GRASS! Never!!!
Long live NMA
Long live Federal republic of Nigeria
well,if only nigerians see or read these truthful points without sentiment..but then ..

drobadebayo: what's this nonsense about doctors trained free. When I still paid higher than majority of the departments througout grueling 6years(don't want to say all but its prolly all).My hostel accomodation was 15k higher,a tiny room 4 people were made to live in.People are still waiting for their scholarship funds years after graduating.Food was more expensive inside the teaching hospital compared to the permanent site where other students were.
Be It a private institution or government, yout tuition fee as a med student will always be higher than others.
chai.u know its an acceptable norm for an average nigerian to keep circulating propaganda, false news and rumours, even after enlightenment about such matters.its funny really cos i wonder who could have generate a lie like tuition frree medical school.its not limited to tuition alone, but so many other beliefs and wrong assumptions of an average nigerian,in this case as it relates to medical doctors

HealthRe: Government Vows Not To Recall Sacked Doctors by DrLuv: 2:23pm On Aug 21, 2014
ozodigboo: Some pple don't understand d issues.
Sacking resident docs, is like sacking every doctor.
All doctors are bound by the Hippocratic oath_ nobody will dare apply for any new job opening.
Fashola was used . . . he employed locum docs..... what happened later ?
He recalled d sacked docs, but the new locum docs, refused to be disengaged. . . . meaning more docs on state employment.
If Fashola dared sack d locum guys, when next there will be strike & u call for locum, nobody will listen to u. . . they will say u wanna use and dump.
GEJ has started what he can't finish.
Consultants and medical officers will NOT start work, and they can't be sacked by fiat becos they are PERMANENT CIVIL SERVICE STAFF.

And. . . . what are we even saying ?
Assuming some young, inexperienced docs go n apply, no matter how few. . . do u want to entrust ur LIFE onto them ?
And assuming d experienced docs, resident docs etc are frustrated to return to work against their will..........will u entrust ur LIFE on a group of embittered docs who are so angry with d nigerian populace who didn't back them ?

plz go back and read my opening sentence again.
word!

Naaa.u obviously are the one venting ur anger on all posters particularly any that seems to express opinions quite different from the ideal or ur ideology, which honestly is not neccessary..sarcastic responses even work better sometime than direct insultive languages,u should use it sometimes.its fun and everybody goes on without individual ego bruised

I don't have any grudge against any body, but when you see the truth say it and that is: THIS DOCTORS STRIKE ARE FOR STUPID AND SELFISH REASONS and for your info: I LOVE THE SACK. Even if govt. later recall you people, atleast it has set your ass on fire.

I just pity this country, but since johesu is coming up, I believe with time this country will achieve a level of standard health care.
heeehheeeheee..haaa bro...nnaaaaa..u indeed have a grudge at a personal level with medical doctors.i even tot maybe ur grudge is under the umbrella of Johesu..but then most johesu without personality problems do gist and flow freely with their doctor allies..but then i realised that ur case is outrightly different...its not really about the strike,not really about johesu..its aboutt......let me rest my case before another seizure episode happens with "with sangonoeus" discharges.i am not töö good at vulgarities ;

THUNDER4real: Mr man, they are not supportive staff, they are professionals in their various field, you are an overgrown id-iot for saying that and you are one of the problems of the health field. Your egocentrism will carry you to your DOOM.. In developed country, they don't see other health workers as supportive staffs, what they know is come and do your function whether as a dr, nurse pharmacist, etc and do it effectively.
wao!lollllll.indeed that name really fits u.being a supportive staff does not make them less professional at all.clearly u dont get the contextual meaning of the term.heeehheeeheee...tot we were expressing our individual views and opinions, didnt really expect some extremely bogus unrefined barbaric responses but u just keep häving oral convulsions steming from a brain with seizure disorder.but i feel u bro...just let it out ...all the hatred.,esteem issues, personality issues..let it out bro..if it makse u feel better.pele

THUNDER4real: No body is posting trash, useless criticisms, ego driven comment, Inferiority driven comments except dr or dr defenders like ocelot 2006. Mr man as far as I am concern, drs in this country Nigeria are so phobic about other health workers.
@sängo4real.u just missed the whole point of that specific post"SUCCESS CAN BE REPLICATED" ,"WE SHOULD ALL FIND OUT HOW HEALTH SECTOR IN SOME DEVELOPED NATIONS IS BEING RUN WITH RESPECT TO THE REASONS BEHIND THE NMA STRIKE AND WE SHALL ALL BE BETTER FOR IT".thats the point again, the point is not about trash and etc like u referring to.besides believe me.,.no medical doctor has phobia of any definition for other health workers, what for?they are the doctors supportive staff Naaa.after all no health institution can do well optimally without other healthworkers carrying out their own designated professional assignments in their own designated professional boundaries in the institution..right,or do u have a contrary view,,lets hear it
HealthRe: Government Vows Not To Recall Sacked Doctors by DrLuv: 9:07am On Aug 19, 2014
phantom: oga i am trying to make you understand that a system that rewards laziness and unproductivity while punishing merit cannot sustain itself.
i am surprised my point was totally missed.

i put up senators allowances so you know we have our priorities mixed up in this country. someone said the other day that we should not compare ourselves to senators and reps. i ask you,is that righthuh? and it is because the common man in nigeria CANNOT TOUCH THE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT. DOCTORS ON THE OTHER HAND ARE PEOPLE THEY SEE EVERYDAY AND CAN RELATE WITH.THEY THINK DOCTORS DO NOT DESERVE TO BE PAID WELL. since doctors are in the mess like everyone else, they have no righy to ask for better welfare abi?? thats what you are saying in effect and that view is deeply worrying.

our value system is upside down.thats my point.
on point jire
HealthRe: Breaking:- FG Sacks All Resident Doctors by DrLuv: 7:57am On Aug 19, 2014
ziga: I agree with your principle as well.

I do not work in Nigeria, so I can tell you that I have seen both sides.

The places I have worked (outside Nigeria), when a Doc prescribes or writes an instruction or whatever he wants, It is called a physician order.
So, Lab tests, medications etc are called physician orders.

So, referring to Docs instructions as orders is nothing new and that is what it is called in the part of the world where I work, that Nigerians are trying to emulate.

When I write an "order" here, it has to be performed. If it is not done, the Pharmacist or lab scientist or nurse would appropriately call to let me know if they have recommendations that might differ from mine. However, I still have the final say regarding what is done because I stand as the coordinator of care between all health workers involved and the patient.

A Doctor is trained as a diagnostician and coordinator between other healthworkers and that is why the curriculum overlaps with so many other's. A lot of people have been chanting a Doc can't be a jack of all trades, but he is. Not master of all. But he is the jack of all trades.

Regardless of what we want to cal it. That is order/instructions or anything. We should not create chaos ad we should play our parts in the care of our patients.

And this is the biggest issue I have with everything going on. Even when we work as a team, there is still a process, otherwise there is no team.

Ego is a personality trait, and a lot of people believe Docs have big Egos. Maybe true, maybe not. However, regardless of how you feel about your teammate's personality, we still have to perform our duties.
well well...we are in nigeria brother.,unfortunately things dont really work out easily in ideal ways or in pattern with nations with better/progressive health system..rather we enjoy creating 'chaos',"disorderliness" and " confusion".yes things will be better if we work within the definition of our individual professions rather than invade other co-workers',
