rhymz: Can people stop twisting the facts and reality on ground.... residents are not even licensed doctors so what is this talk about the hospitals coming to a halt because medical graduate trainees have been sacked. Are you guys for real. With or without Resident docs, the teaching hospitals can run fine, all the management need to do is make little changes and tweaks here and there. The absence of residents can not stop a hospital from running, for God's sake these guys are a little above the medical students.

There are specialists, fellows and consultants, all doctors..... So how does the suspension of the residency program equate to sacking 16000 doctors.... Na only residents dey work for FG hospitals ni?
Abeg let's be realistic, these guys had it coming when they left the profession and started a power tussle and politics first with colleagues and in extension with the FG their employers. They allowed the consultants to use them as pawns forgetting that they are just graduate trainees who can be used to out fears in the mind of their bosses.

dabongys: Sister, The issue is not just with the doctors strike. try to examine the matter without bias. As you claim they have said all patients should go and die, that's really wrong. They shouldn't have gone on strike my dear, at least not now. They should have waited for all patients in the country to get well before embarking on the strike. They should have ensured no patient remains in any hospital before doing so.

But teachers, ASUU members, judiciary workers, NUPENG, PENGASSAN etc are free to do so? it seems in your world, they (doctors) don't have needs or bills to pay. Did you read in my post that their hazard allowance is 5,000 naira? Whoever pays someone that as a coverage to take care of patients with contagious diseases but is ready to spend billions as long as PDP wins in a particular election is a bigger terrorist to me.

Fine, let him fire them. i hope he would be ready to fire all ASUU members because I am sure he is yet to (in practice) meet their demands. After that, it would be the school teachers (NUT), Then NUPENG, NLC etc. It never ends. Does that not tell you that it is not the trade unions but the government? How can the government alone be okay and every trade union or the entire citizenry be insane?

And lastly, they are the ones that pays the price (sack) for their masters (doctors/NMA) mistakes. Biologically: they are on the verge of extinction. Technically: they are jobless. okparaugo: Oga, being a doctor does not amount to threatening the federal govt every 6 months while patients are left to die due to the unavailability of these people.

Things are really difficult in this country, engineers spend at least 5 years of intensive studies to secure their degrees, lawyers spend up to 6 or 7 years to secure their degrees, yet it is only doctors from the list of core professionals who are guaranteed of instant employment on the completion of their academic work and housemanship.

This has given this set of professionals a sense of importance and variance over other professionals in the job market and their residency status makes them feel like gods over patients and human lives..
