EbolaParasite: If no subsidy was paid in 2016, why is the pump price not 86 naira? Why should it increase to 135-145 if no subsidy was paid at 86? Am i missing something here? So, you mean subsidy was paid and the govt lied against itself by saying no subsidy was paid? Wonderful reasoning. Pls read about deregulation. The reason it was 86 then was because the govt was still providing forex at official rate of 199. But now that the govt can't provide dollars, it's 145 because marketers source for more expensive forex. |

Dear Nairalanders,
This is the economic team that Jonathanians wish was still in power or want us to bring back to save Nigeria.
I pulled out this from 2 different sources as Nairaland political gladiators see Premium Times as APC sympathetic while Vanguard as PDP sympathetic. There shouldn't be any issue of biased reporting
Essense of this flash back;
There have been several attacks of the person of President Buhari and his Econmic team with Honourable Kemi Adeosun as the minister of finance and coordinating minster of the economy.
Oil price per barrel between Febuary and April 2015 hoovered between 54 to 57 dollars per barrel.
It is interesting to know that at this price, Jonathan and the mother of our economy were already borrowing to pay salaries and meet up obligations to contractors.
What would have been happening when oil went as low as 28 USD per barrel. Would Nigeria have been sold?
Naira was devalued to 197naira per dollar yet in didn't solve any problem as Nigeria still had to keep borrowing. Will devaluing Niara solve anything now?
Fellow Nigerians,
Despite the lowest oil price rate of all times, President Buhari and Mrs Kemi Adeosun have never borrowed to pay salaries rather they have dished out bail out funds to states to pay salaries.
Despite the low oil prices, President Buhari was able defeat BokoHaram Technically. Please Note that alot of money is also being spent on this war, something the past government was struggling to achieve despite the huge resources allegedly spent on the war.
The present Economic situation have been expected even before this adminstration as evident in the several warnings issued by the past minister of Finance. You can read her comments here even when oil was 74USD per barrel in case u missed the thread. https://www.nairaland.com/2898459/what-okonjo-iweala-said-when-oil
In summary;
Buhari inherited a very big problem and have so far so good tried is best to navigate the ship Nigeria safefly.
I urge Jonathanians to take a chill pill, and give this adminstration some time as its first ever budget have just been passed.
God bless the Federal Repubic of Nigera
God bless Mr President
God bless the Honorable Minister of Finance
1 millions likes for President Buhari and Mrs Kemi Adeosun Dear Mynd44 Lalasticlala Seun, may I kindly and humbly request this thread to be taken to fp once more. I was going to do a similar thread to remind us of the type of economy inherited by PMB as a counter to the thread on recession currently at the fp when I realized we have this beautiful thread here. Please send this as a counter please. Thanks. |

TonyeBarcanista: Why are people blowing hot air because a globally recognise and reputable medium(the Economist) tagged former president Goodluck Jonathan an ineffectual buffoon within the context of anti-corruption? Can we please for a few moment reflect our mind back to the statement of the Economist and tell ourselves whether or not it was true?
"The government(of Buhari) has cracked down on corruption, which had flourished under the previous president, Goodluck Jonathan, an ineffectual buffoon who let politicians and their cronies fill their pockets with impunity." (The Economist 28/01/2016)
Who can claim that corruption didn't flourish under Jonathan administration? What happened to Princess Stella Oduah and her N260million bullet-proof car scam? What happened to Alison Madueke that sold off NNPC jet meant for use of petroleum minister but allegedly spent a whopping N10billion of tax-payers' money on charter jet while the former President refused to probe the issue and even shielded her from house of representative probe in 2014? What happened to the Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team the recovered and re-looted billions of naira of our poor pensioners? What happened to Steven Orasanya the former head of service indicted for looting billions? What happened to the oil subsidy thieves, Alison Madueke and all those indicted by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu led Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force that was set-up by Jonathan's government in 2012? What happened to comrade Abba Moro, the former interior minister that sent young Nigerians to their early grave after fleecing each of them of their hard-earned N1000 in the name of immigration recruitment? How do we explain the fact that under Goodluck Jonathan, former governors from all parties took corruption to the zenith with ex-Gov Amaechi telling Nigerians that they steal because we don't stone them? What was his reaction? What happened to the $2.2billion cash for arms deal, and the re-looted Abacha $370million loot? Who gave Olisah Metuh N400 million? Didn't Jonathan agree that some cabals are taking advantage of subsidy (without bringing them to book)? Should we dismiss that also? Should we go on? Did corruption not thrive under Goodluck Jonathan's leadership at all level? If we agree with the above then why should we fault the Economist when even Jonathan supporters agree that corruption thrived in the last administration even though they are quick to say "Buhari's men are not saints" (which of course is correct).
No Insult Intended... An ineffectual buffoon is simply someone with odd or ridiculous behaviour that doesn't produce desired effect or doesn't meet expectation
If we are to be fair, we won't call the ineffectual buffoon tag an insult on Jonathan especially when putting the war against corruption into context like the Economist did. That he carries a humble demeanour or conceded defeat does not erode the fact that he was ineffective in tackling corruption, though his concession of defeat is worth commendation. The truth must be said. In fact, many, even among those that claim to be his supporters and those from his Ijaw ethnic group have at one time or the other tagged the former president clueless. I sympathise with Jonathan but this is a cross that he should be prepare to bear.
He is Not The First To Be Called A Buffoon Let me also state that former president Goodluck Jonathan is not the only person nor the first to be tagged a buffoon. When British MP Sir Keir Starmer said “that(Donald Trump's behaviour) is not buffoonery, that is absolutely repugnant”, Americans didn't spit fire, neither did Republicans spat fire when British MP Tom Tugendhat called Trump an insane.
Goodluck Jonathan's sympathisers and foot solders should understand that the former president belongs to the past just like his predecessors in office. His deeds and misdeeds as President Jonathan(not Mr. Jonathan) will always be talked about just like we keep talking about those of Shehu Shagari, Sani Abacha, Gen IBB, Maj Gen Buhari, Chief Obasanjo, late Yar'adua etc. Whether for good or for bad, he/they are being remembered by what they have done and what they failed to do- President Muhammadu Buhari won't be an exception when he leaves power.
May God Bless Us All and Bless Nigeria Let me quote this for record purpose. |

Our amiable president, President Muhammadu Buhari only paid subsidy in 2015 plus the debt left behind by the Ineffectual Buffoon. In 2016, PMB has not paid a penny in subsidy. Again, read about it here http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/no-subsidy-paid-in-january-kachikwu/It's attached for you as well.

Mr integrity who before now said there's nothing like subsidy, paid for subsidies for some months and now has removed the 'nonexistent' subsidy. Nigeria has not paid a dime in subsidy since beginning of 2016. Again, what the FG has done is to deregulate the oil industry. Read about what it means to deregulate. Why can't you counter the fact that the Ineffectual Buffoon and madam puff-puff borrowed to pay salaries in Feb and March of 2015 and attempt to tell us how they could have managed the economy with much more lower oil price? |

Maybe he has made the Naira equal with the dollar, maybe he has paid youths their 5,000 stipend, maybe the security situation is now good with the rampaging herdsmen and militants, maybe the economy is in good shape now, and oh, He's diversifying the economy by looking for oil in Chad basin. keep on with your self deceit. The other time we asked you to provide evidence of the $1 to N1 pledge, with offer of mouth watering amount here, none of you was able to do that. You're not paying attention boy, read my submission again and you will see I said we're still waiting for two of his four promises to come through. The PDP and IB are not coming back soon. The earlier you accept that fact, the better for your healthy living. |

With what the "dullard" has achieved by keeping Nigeria alive, the Ineffectual Buffoon would have put Nigeria up for sale were he to still be in charge. Nigeria under the IB borrowed to pay salaries in February and March 2015, remember? So, intelligent people can understand what we would have become if he was still in charge. |

SeverusSnape: 50%??..
I beg I no fit laugh. Even his most ardent zombie won't say this in public. To educate you further: PMB built his election campaign on four major areas: 1. Fighting corruption 2. Fighting and defeating BH insurgency 3. Creating jobs 4. Improving the economy through diversification Even, the most idiotic of his haters will agree he has succeeded in the first two above. It's the last two we're counting on him for. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Economy Shrinks, Recession Imminent by DropShot: 6:46am On May 21, 2016 |
SeverusSnape: Thanks to Buhari and his zombie horde. We saw this coming. It's not a news any longer since the only commodity that made us grow on paper has lost more than 60% of its values without us saving for these rainy days. PMB technically inherited a bleeding economy; an economy effectively in recession. |
Politics › Re: 23 BILLION USD Refineries...where Are They 6 Years After? by DropShot: 6:44am On May 21, 2016 |

Jokers. Console ke? PMB in his one year in office has at least largely succeeded in fighting BH insurgency and stemming the tide of corruption that was sweeping us into oblivion. We are confident that the reaming three years are enough to repair the badly damaged economy he inherited. So, far PMB has achieved 50% of his election campaign promises whereas GEJ was a monumental failure. |
