The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom, Mr Mike Igini, has said that the Commission has not declared a winner in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District election. Igini said this at the resumption of collation of results for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Uyo on Monday. There have been speculations in the social media that Sen. Godswill Akapbio, who defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress lost the election to the PDP candidate, Mr Chris Ekpenyong. While Akpabio is a former governor of the state, Ekpenyong was a deputy governor under the administration of Chief Victor Attah from 1999 to 2007. The REC, however, dispelled the rumour going round on the social media, saying: “Nobody has declared election result in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.’’ The commissioner said that the election at Udung Uko Local Government Area had been cancelled due to violence and ballot box snatching. Igini said the collation officer for the local government area,Mr Emeka Adizua, was held hostage on Saturday until the police rescued him on Sunday. The collation of results for the presidential election in Akwa Ibom is still ongoing. Photos below : Gist via :- https://nairatrend.com.ng/nobody-declared-winner-in-aibom-north-west-rec/

Sen. Ajayi Boroffice representing Ondo North Senatorial District said that the division in the state’s structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led to its defeat by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Feb. 23 election. Boroffice, a member of APC, stated this on Monday in Akure when speaking with newsmen on the outcome of the Presidential and National Assemble elections in the area. Reports have it that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led the election over the ruling APC in National Assembly election according to the result released by INEC in the state. PDP won 11 out of the 18 local governments in the state Ajayi said:”APC lost Saturday election in Ondo State toPDP because APC has dysfunctional party structure in the state which is not effective. “Then, we have a bipolar party which is one side AA and another is authentic APC. “It is like the house divided against itself and that really affected the party in the election. “I have mixed feelings in sense that we lost to PDP and it is unfortunate. “However, the good side is that, I won the election and three members of House of Representatives in my district and our presidential candidate also won. “But the fact that we lost two senatorial seats to PDP is bad,” he said. The lawmaker also said that his victory in the poll was caused by people-oriented projects he executed in the senatorial district. “I won because people are behind me and if you go there, you will see projects I did and brought there. “People know that I am committed to their welfare and they decided to give their votes to me despite all odds.” Boroffice applauded INEC and security agencies for the level playing ground, fairness and equal treatment for all candidates. “INEC did very well and I also give credit to security agencies for not allowing any intimidation, because there was no any foul play in the election.” Photos below : Gist via :- https://nairatrend.com.ng/why-apc-loses-to-pdp-in-ondo-sen-boroffice/ Cc ;Lalasticlala, mynd44, Dominique

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has charged President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria Army, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Nigeria Police to court over the President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to the military to deal ruthlessly with ballot boxes snatchers. Buhari had during the APC caucus meeting in Abuja last Monday said, “ Anybody who decides to snatch ballot boxes or lead thugs to disturb it (elections), maybe that would be the last unlawful action he would take. I have directed the police and the military to be ruthless”. Dissatisfied with the President’s directive, the main opposition party has filed a case with suit number, FHC/ABJ/C5/255/2019 before federal high court, Abuja, praying the court to declare the directive as unlawful, null and void and of no legal effect. Others joined in the suit include: National Assembly, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian and the Air force. The PDP prayed the court that, “The 1st Defendant (President federal republic of Nigeria) lacks the powers to deploy troops of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria comprised to participate In the 2019 general elections without the prior express approval of the 2 Defendant (National Assembly) and that any such deployment In the absence of the 2 Defendant’s (National Assembly) approval ls Illegal, ultra vires and unconstitutional. It also seeks declaration that, “The Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air force defendants are not under any obligation to enforce, implement and/or in Army way give effect to President Federal Republic of Nigeria directive of 18th February, 2019 to be ruthless deal summarily with alleged election offenders during the 2019 general elections even at the expense of human lives. “That security agencies have a duty to disregard and disobey the unlawful and Illegal directives of the 1st Defendant (President) given on 18th February 2019 for them to be ruthless and deal summarily with alleged election offenders during the 2019 general elections at the expense of their lives. A coalition of human rights groups based in the south eastern parts of Nigeria have condemned the acceptance of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai to carry out the shoot on sight order of ballot box snatchers, by President Muhammadu Buhari. The group, under the aegis of Southeast Based Coalition of Human Rights & Democracy Organisations (a coalition of 22 human rights & democracy organisations) said it was suspicious that such orders had not been given to the military by the president on members of the Boko Haram terrorists or the Fulani Herdsmen and other violent organisations. The group said the acceptance calls to question the competence of the Chief of Army Staff, saying that modern day soldiering include “sharp mental, forensic and scientific soldiering, but in the Nigerian Army of Buratai’s era, the likes of Buratai’s military generalship is earned through civilian butcheries, locomotive and archaic soldiering as well as litany of other in-service atrocities and immoral conducts.” A press statement signed by the head of the groups, Mr. Emeka Umeagbalasi who is also the chairman board of trustees of International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, and made available to THISDAY in Awka, Anambra State, states that, “Therefore, the COAS’s re-ordered killing on Nigeria’s Election Day is nothing short of preemptive and psychological terrorisation of the country’s 72 plus million PVC holders particularly those in the Southeast, South-south and potential opposition voters in the North and Southwest Nigeria. “From the analysis of the COAS’s “vote against PMB and die” statement and associated threats, the Nigerian Army has singled out four South-south States of Rivers, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom for Election Day military siege, infliction of widespread fears and brutal suppression of the electoral wishes of voters in the areas.” Photos below : Gist via :- https://nairatrend.com.ng/rights-groups-condemn-buratais-acceptance-to-shoot-ballot-box-snatchers/ Cc ;Lalasticlala, mynd44, Dominique

A contingent of more than 500 Chadian troops entered Nigeria on Friday to “lend a hand” to the Nigerian army in its efforts to tackle the Boko Haram jihadist group, a Chad army spokesman told AFP. The soldiers, part of a regional force comprised of troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger, will be deployed on Saturday, the day Nigerians will vote in presidential and parliamentary elections. Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking re-election, vowed Friday that voters will be able to vote in security, despite a week-long postponement and renewed violence. The election campaign has coincided with fresh violence in the north, blamed on both criminal gangs and Boko Haram jihadists. More than 200 people have died since the start of this month alone. In 2015 Buhari was elected on a promise to put an end to the Boko Haram threat. And the problem has spread across to the other countries in the Lake Chad region. On Friday four people were killed and seven more reported missing in an attack attributed to Boko Haram jihadists on a small settlement in southeast Niger, a local official there said. Five more killings attributed to Boko Haram were reported in Chad the previous day. Nigeria is the most populous African nation, with 190 million residents, and the continent’s biggest exporter of oil. Saturday’s elections are seen as of great importance to the stability of the region. Alexis Sanchez has claimed that Jose Mourinho killed confidence of Manchester United players, by his constant rotation, while he was manager. Sanchez is one of the players that fell out with Mourinho, before the Portuguese was eventually sacked in December. Although the Chilean attacker described Mourinho as a great coach, he revealed that life became difficult for the squad in his final months in charge. “Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world, in the way that he coaches, how he studies videos, the way he goes about things. “But within the group, there was that feeling that you were in the team, then out. “Sometimes I didn’t play, then I did, then I didn’t and as a player you lose confidence. Each player lost their confidence. “Then an atmosphere was created that wasn’t healthy,” Sanchez told the BBC. Salah’s move to Juventus: Italian football giant Juventus are planning to sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, but would love to seek the advice of Ronaldo before making a bid. And the report suggests that the forward has given the green light to sign the Egyptian and would be happy to share the dressing room with him. Salah has emerged as top target for the Italian giants, who are looking to complete a big-money move for the Egyptian when this season ends. Salah won’t come cheap however, with a reported £175million being prepared to sign the forward who has been exceptional in the past two seasons at club level. Juventus have already secured the signing of Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal on a free transfer, but clearly have enough money in the kitty to go and buy a talent like Salah.
