How is rebasing the GDP, a mere statistical exercise, an achievement?
How is making a one million years masterplan an achievement??
How is "reiterating his commitment to make Nigeria better" an achievement??
Where are the so called universities built and where are the students these so called unis have produced??
What is the rational behind building some mushroom structures and christen them universities an achievement when one could easily upgrade those on ground to some reasonable standard since they already have all the accreditation they need with a healthy number of quality academic staff??
What is the achievement in lying to the world that there is now a rail system in use from makurdi to PH when I was on ground in the state during his visit and took pictures of the so called rail with not a single train coach in sight?? A friend even told me the bridge across which the old rail line passes in Otukpo, the senate president's LG, is completely damaged!! Will the trains levitate when they get to that point
Soooooo much lies and deceit with absolutely nothing to show for the years spent so far.
Come feBuhari 14th, Nigerians would express their love for their General by giving Jonathan the boots!
Ps: I keep asking this question: would the people of Niger Delta even vote a Goodluck Jonathan to be their president in an event a country is carved out of that region?? Politics › Democratic Principles And The Nigerian Society. by drss(op): 12:42pm On Jan 27, 2015 |
According to MacMillan Dictionary; 1. Democracy is a system of government in which people choose their representatives in elections. 2. A Country that has Democracy. 3. A way of Running an organization in which everyone can share in making decisions.
In layman's terms, democracy is a form of government that belongs to the people by the people and to the people. Democracy as the name implies is a form of government that is composed of ideals and principles. These ideals are the very Ingredients that makes it different from other forms of government. Some of these principles are:
1. Freedom of Speech. 2. Freedom of Association. 3. Equality before the law.
These are the very principles that makes up the Soul and Heart of democracy. Take them away and democracy ceases to exist. Democracy is different from other forms of government because every individual is guaranteed to right to air his/her views regarding matters that affects him/her and the society at large. It is a form of government that guarantees Individual Freedom to Think, Worship, and Organise his/her lives the way he/she wants it without any provocation and limitations. These and more are the beauties that separates democracy and other forms of government as the Best System Of Government.
Despite the fact that Nigeria operates a democratic form of government since 1999, events lately puts shadows on my mind on whether all Nigerians, after 16 years of democratic rule fully understood the grip and principles of democracy. If we do, then I see no reason why AIT should be attacked for airing a sponsored program on its station, which by the way is one of the Cardinal principles of democracy; Freedom of Speech and Expression. Why will anyone attack a media house for airing a sponsored program? Don't individuals have right to air their views through TV stations? Aren't we all using the media to air our political agenda? Is it because the information therein was false or is it because we choose to be intolerant? Is our definition of democracy about freedom of individuals to think and air their views or simply about forcing our own will on others who have contrary views? If the latter is the case, then am right. Nigerians don't yet fully understand the meaning of democracy.
If we define democracy based on our selfish aim because it suits us but castigate others because it puts a dent on our image then we do not understand democracy. If we try to force our will on others because of their contrary opinion, then we still don't understand democracy. If some will go out of their way to spread information through mass media about a particular candidate and be happy about it but will raise Tantrums and Brimstone when others do same against their preferred candidate then am afraid we're very far from practicing true ideals of democracy. If we define democracy to be government for the few who are seen to be Untouchable and Above the Law in the society then we have no idea what democracy is all about. Because if we do, then we will realize that in the eyes of the law as far as True Democratic Principles is Concerned, We are all Equal People and Citizens below the Law with Equal Rights For Association and Expression We mustn't forget that in practical principles of democracy; What is good for the goose is also good for the gander. There's a big difference between democracy and military rule. In democracy, all individuals are allowed to express themselves through whatever media possible devoid of harassment and intimidation.

Politics › Toll Rises In Anti-cartoon Riots In Niger Republic by drss(op): 2:11pm On Jan 20, 2015 |
Toll rises in anti-cartoon riots in Niger Last updated: 18 January 2015 Five people killed inside churches and bars on second day of violence linked to anger at French satirical weekly.
Riots blamed on the publication of a cartoon in the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo depicting Prophet Muhammad have left at least 10 people dead in Niger, according to the the country's president.
Mahamadou Issoufou said on Sunday that five deaths were reported after demonstrations in the capital Niamey the previous day.
Those killed on Saturday were inside churches and bars that were set ablaze, Issoufou said.
Five other people were killed on Friday.
In another development on Saturday, police also fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of opposition supporters who gathered in Niamey in defiance of a ban on a demonstration against what they see as poor governance, witnesses said.
The march was not connected to the riots and had been banned by Niamey's governor after rioters protesting against the Charlie Hebdo cover illustration attacked churches, bars and a police station.
The decree stopping the demonstration did not give a reason for the decision, Reuters news agency reported.
Rising political tensions
A government official speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media said the authorities had feared the march could be infiltrated by anti-Charlie Hebdo rioters.
Political tensions have risen in Niger since 2013 when Hama Amadou, a powerful former political ally of the president, split from the ruling coalition.
Hama, speaker of parliament at the time, fled Niger last year after leading legislators authorised his arrest on suspicion he was involved in a baby-trafficking ring. He has denied the accusations.
The victims of Friday's cartoon-related violence were attacked in the town of Zinder after prayer services, officials said.
Religious riots erupted in Niger after Charlie Hebdo published a new cartoon depicting Islam's most revered prophet.
The issue, published on Wednesday, was the first following a January 7 attack on the magazine's headquarters in Paris that left 12 dead.
Physical depictions of the prophet are considered blasphemous, and protests have erupted in a number of predominantly Muslim countries this week. Link: http://m.aljazeera.com/story/201511813282440563 |

YAOUNDE (Reuters) - Suspected Boko Haram Islamist fighters from Nigeria kidnapped around 80 people, many of them children, and killed three others on Sunday in a cross-border attack on villages in northern Cameroon, army and government officials said. The kidnappings, among the largest abductions on Cameroonian soil since the militants began expanding their zone of operations across the border last year, came as neighboring Chad deployed troops to support Cameroon's forces in the area. "According to our initial information, around 30 adults, most of them herders, and 50 young girls and boys aged between 10 and 15 years were abducted," a senior army officer deployed to northern Cameroon told Reuters. He said the early-morning attack had targeted the village of Mabass and several other villages along the porous border with Nigeria. Soldiers intervened and exchanged fire with the raiders for around two hours, he added. Government spokesman Issa Tchiroma confirmed the attack, in which he said three people had been killed, as well as the kidnappings, but was not able to say with certainty how many people had been taken in the raid. Around 80 homes were destroyed, he said. Niamey // Police on Saturday fired tear gas at a fresh demonstration in Niger against French weekly Charlie Hebdo’s publication of a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed.
At least 1,000 youths assembled at the grand mosque in the capital Niamey, some of them throwing rocks at police while others burnt tyres and chanted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is Greatest”).
Saturday’s protest came a day after a policeman and three civilians were killed and 45 injured in protests against Charlie Hebdo in Niger’s second city of Zinder, which saw three churches ransacked and the French cultural centre burnt down.
Thousands of Muslims demonstrated across the world on Friday, venting fury over the new Prophet Mohammed cartoon that Charlie Hebdo published after extremists attacks on its offices and elsewhere in Paris last week.
Many Muslims see any depiction of Islam’s prophet as offensive, while many Western governments support Charlie Hebdo’s position that publishing the cartoons is an exercise in freedom of expression.
French president Francois Hollande on Saturday stressed that the country had “principles, values, notably freedom of expression”.
The satirical weekly has repeatedly published cartoons of Mohammed over the years and its latest issue, released on Wednesday, features a cartoon of Mohammed on its cover holding a “Je Suis Charlie” (I am Charlie) sign under the headline “All is forgiven”.
It came a week after attacks by three extremists on its offices, a kosher supermarket and a policewoman left 17 people dead in and around Paris over three days, in raids that deeply shocked the country and sparked an outpouring of international support. Politics › Re: A Group Of Pakistanis Held A Rally To Honor The Charlie Hebdo Shooters by drss(op): 2:53pm On Jan 16, 2015 |
The number one reason why Terrorism prosper worldwide is because they enjoy massive support from the people. Alqaeda, ISIS and Boko Haram all enjoy support from their locals. If people in faraway Pakistan can organize themselves through demonstration to support the killing of french citizens by jihadist, imagine the support Boko Haram enjoy in the North. Boko Haram have sympathizers both within and outside Nigeria. |
Politics › A Group Of Pakistanis Held A Rally To Honor The Charlie Hebdo Shooters by drss(op): 2:31pm On Jan 16, 2015 |
It was a funeral ceremony in honor of two murderers. In Pakistan on Tuesday, that meant flowers, laudatory speeches and posters honoring the killers' brave "sacrifice."
The gathering was billed as a memorial service to honor the al-Qaeda-linked brothers who killed 12 people at the offices of Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris last week. Two days after that attack, French security forces killed both after a daylong standoff on the outskirts of the city.
In the northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar, a few religious and political activists decided that Cherif and Said Kouachi needed a proper sendoff -- one suitable for two men the activists deemed religious warriors who sacrificed themselves for their Islamic faith.
Neither brother is known to have any connection to Pakistan nor to have ever traveled here. But organizers said the ceremony was a show of support for their defense of the honor of the prophet Muhammad, whom Charlie Hebdo had frequently lampooned over the years. French authorities suspect the gunmen -- who were heard shouting "We have avenged the prophet" after the attack -- targeted the newspaper because of those depictions.
“We were prompted by our faith to organize this funeral for those two martyred brothers,” said Pir Mohammad Chishti, a religious scholar who runs a seminary in Peshawar. “I only know one thing: They killed the ones responsible for blasphemous against our beloved prophet Mohammad.”
The gathering in Peshawar followed similar protest in neighboring Afghanistan on Friday. In Afghanistan’s southern Uruzgan province, hundreds of demonstrators streamed out of Friday prayers and declared the two brothers “heroes,” according to Reuters.
In both Afghanistan and Pakistan, those who gathered represent the conservative fringes of their countries' political debate, but they're not necessarily outliers on this topic. Their outcry reflects the deep-rooted passion that many Muslims feel about depictions of the prophet, which Islamic tradition forbids.
It is also something Pakistan forbids. Under the country’s strict anti-blasphemy law – which calls for capital punishment in some cases – the cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo magazine very well could have been criminally charged had they ever stepped in Pakistan. The law, which has been widely condemned in the West, can be triggered if someone is even suspected of demeaning the prophet.
In the aftermath of the shooting, lawmakers in some countries that have blasphemy statues, including Canada and Ireland, have considered ditching the law. There has been no such discussion in Pakistan, where 38 people are serving life sentences or are on death row after being accused of blasphemy, according to Knox Thames, director of policy and research at the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. At Tuesday's memorial service, Chishti declared over a loudspeaker that Cherif and Said Kouachi had now rightly assumed a place in heaven.
Though small in scale, the event was indicative of the anger in places like Pakistan, which has tough blasphemy laws. (Getty Images) “Why would any Muslim of strong faith resist and not let us offer prayer for people who proved their love for the beloved prophet?” asked Chishti.
It's worth noting that only a handful of Pakistanis attended the event. The service was held just a few miles from Peshawar’s Army Public School and College, where seven Pakistani Taliban militants killed about 150 teachers and students last month.
In the aftermath of that attack, Pakistani leaders have vowed to get tough on militants as well as on extremist views and writings.
But Pakistani authorities did not try to stop the memorial service, even though some in the crowd held banners that appeared to cheer the deaths of 12 French civilians. Politics › Reps To Probe Apc’s Alleged Hacking Of INEC Database by drss(op): 2:02pm On Jan 14, 2015 |
The House of Representatives have resolved to probe recent allegations made by the Department of State Services, DSS, that the All Progressives Congress, APC tried to hack into the data base of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
According to Vauguard, the decision was reached yesterday after the Deputy Majority Leader, Rep Leo Ogor, PDP, Isoko Fed Constituency brought a motion entitled : ’The unauthorized and alleged hacking into the INEC Data Base.”
Ogor in his submission had argued that” the INEC is vested by the Nigerian constitution with the responsibilities to carry out the functions of conducting elections into elective positions in the country.” He said: ”The DSS allegations relating to the alleged plan to hack into the INEC data base is a very serious allegation”. “And that the allegations coming at the heels of an election period calls for concern that should not be treated with levity.” The house Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal subsequently put the debate to a voice vote and it was unanimously adopted.
It would be recalled that the Department of State Services (DSS) On January 7, 2015, Wednesday, said it had made a breakthrough in its investigations of the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) cloning allegedly perpetrated by agents of APC in an apartment in Lagos.
The spokesperson of the DSS, which is also called SSS, Marilyn Ogar, addressed a press conference where she said the service had uncovered lists containing names and photographs of security personnel, foreigners and under-aged children on the list of registered members of the APC. The All Progressives Congress have however denied all the allegations, saying the ‘findings’ are baseless. Source: http://www.naij.com/360826-reps-to-probe-apcs-alleged-hacking-of-inec-database.html |
