It appears that all has not been heard concerning the Nigeria Football Federation and the timeless search for the man to coach the Super Eagles. An NFF report early this week had suggested that Stephen Keshi would have his contract renewed as the Nigeria coach on Friday but a check by The PUNCH on Thursday revealed that the contract signing may not hold exactly as scheduled. A top official of the Federation told The PUNCH that he was only sure that a coach would be named in Abuja but could not say with certainty whether or not it would be Keshi. “What I know is that a coach for the national team will be announced. I cannot say exactly who is to be signed. What is certain is that a coach for the Eagles will be named,” he said. But if the plan goes as indicated on Tuesday, the NFF will announce Keshi as the team’s coach. The NFF and the former Nigeria captain have been in talks over a new contract, with the body offering him a two-year contract extension in March. The contract will see Keshi remain on the N5m monthly salary he earned in his previous contract, but with the clauses in the new package, the coach will now report directly to the NFF technical director and the NFF technical study group. It is not clear if Keshi will be making the return with his former teammate and assistant Daniel Amokachi. The former Everton striker has been Keshi’s first assistant since November 2011 when he first signed as the Eagles manager. The NFF Technical Committee chairman, Mr. Felix Anyasi-Agwu, told our correspondent on Thursday that he could speak on the matter. He said, “I am definitely not in the best position to know whether Amokachi will be in or not. As you know, it is not usually our style to decide on that but the important thing is for us to settle the issue of who will coach the team.” A close associate of Amokachi told our correspondent that the situation in Abuja is a bit dicey. “I understand Keshi is already in Abuja to hold discussions as the entire outlook of things changed with the national elections. I won’t be surprised if a different coach is named going by the snippets from the NFF. “And as a matter of fact a lot of other things may change following the result of that presidential elections,” he said. The Eagles will start the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June, with Nigeria in the same group as Egypt, Tanzania and Chad. Keshi won the African cup as Nigeria coach in 2013 but failed to qualify the team for the 2015 edition which was held in Equatorial Guinea. www.punchng.com/sports/well-name-a-coach-today-nff/ |

Good day Dr. I have an eye problem that comes and go. It's gone for now, but when the thing starts, it will be itching me seriously and when I rob with my hand, I starts feeling as if a tipper of sand has been poured into the eyes. And I have visited an optician,an indian and he said it's just a minor thing and he gave me an eye drop that works perfectly. My question now is, what exactly can I do to correct my eyes completely? Or I just have to manage like that because I thought that drug should cured it since I have been using it. Am anxiously waiting. Thanks |
The World Bank has thrown its weight behind President-elect, Maj. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari(retd.), to probe the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation over allegations of missing funds. Speaking during a video conferencing from Washington to journalists from across Africa on the release of the bank’s analysis of issues shaping Africa titled ‘Africa’s Pulse’, top officials of the bank also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for exhibiting political maturity after his defeat in the recent presidential election. Answering questions from journalists, World Bank’s Chief Economist for Africa, Mr. Francisco Ferreira, said looking into financial record of the country, especially into allegation of corruption at the NNPC, would check impunity and build public institutions in the future. He said, “One norm that has to change is the norm of impunity. I am from Brazil myself. So, I am also used to a country where people could be corrupt and escape justice. That keeps the people to keep doing it. “So the current stand of the government- elect to look into what happened in the past hopefully will have consequences for the future. And those consequences will be that institutions will be stronger; norms will be cleaner and people will not have to steal millions of dollars from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. “People have alleged in the past that there had been major corruption scandals there. If that stops, then that will have very high returns in terms of the money staying around to be spent on education, health, roads and power that the poor people in Nigeria across the country need. “So my sense is that it will be good to promote cleanliness in politics.” Answering another question on some other African countries that have elections between 2015 and 2017, Ferreira said there was no need to be afraid that the fear of elections would drive away investments from the region. http://www.punchng.com/news/world-bank-backs-buhari-to-probe-nnpc-others/ |
