The leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has received an award from the Igbo Youths Movement in Enugu state. In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the IPOB, Powerful Emma, the award – an award of honour – was given to Kanu as a great liberator of the Igbo people.

Emma said : the award ceremony which took place at the Nike Hotel in Enugu is a proof that Kanu has remained “a man of the masses even while incarcerated”. Emma said: “Prince Nnamdi Kanu received the award as a great liberator of our days and as the man who destroyed the falsehood in Nigeria with the truth without a metallic bullets and bombs, his determination, resoluteness and truthfulness towards the liberation of his people accorded him the honour and respect among the youths across the world.”

The IPOB spokesperson also said that the group’s members worldwide commend the leadership and members of the Igbo Youth movement for their decision.

“IPOB family members worldwide under Mazi Kanu promise to restore Biafra through a peaceful means because it is a divine project from Chukwuokike Abiama (God Almighty) which no human being can stop. The killing, torture, intimidation and arrest of Biafrans cannot stop our resolve towards the restoration of Gods projects,” Emma said.
Kanu was arrested by the Department of State Services in October 2015 at the Murtala Mohammad International Airport, Lagos.

He was arrested on his arrival to Nigeria from United Kingdom and his since been under detention. Kanu is currently facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and assisting in the mismanagement of an unlawful society among many others before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
