Handling the ball
Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration:

• the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards
the hand)

• the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected
ball)

• the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is
an infringement

• touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing,
shinguard etc.) counts as an infringement

• hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard etc.) counts
as an infringement

Disciplinary sanctions
There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player:

• deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to prevent an opponent
gaining possession

• attempts to score a goal by deliberately handling the ball

A player is sent off, however, if he prevents a goal or an obvious goal- scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball. This punishment arises not from the act of the player deliberately handling the ball but from the unacceptable and unfair intervention that prevented a goal being scored. ________________________________________________________________________________

So the key points that i have been confused about is weather the player "deliberately" puts their hand to the ball and then further down under disciplinary sanctions it states that handling the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession.

These are two completely different things, such as the penalty Ireland won for machester city on the weekend were the blackburn player slide to block the cross and Irelands backheel hit his trailing arm. He clearly didnt deliberately handle the ball but it did prevent his opponent from gaining possession.

So now i go on to look at the handballs from the chelsea game.

The 1st one is the handball right at the death:

This handball is very 50/50, it is in context ball to hand as his arm is moving in the same direction as the ball, Ballack is very close to him and its a very quick shot. On the other hand he deliberately handles the ball to stop it contacting his face which under the 2nd section of the law means its a pen because its stopping a shot on goal and its stopping the team from have possession.

This is a stone wall 100% pen, his arm moves to the ball yes Anelka is very close but this has to be given, ticks all the boxes and should be given. The only escape the ref could have used was it was ball to hand but its so far out on his hand and its just far to obvious and deliberate.

But afterall ,  what has happen has happened

Agreed universally.Even a blind bat would see it was obvous.
But to say there was a conspiracy after you couldn't score with an extra man on the pitch is laughable to me.


Chelsea can feel hard done by,but the comments afterwards haven't helped their cause.
Platini keeps saying that English clubs are ruining football.And while that is rubbish coming from a former player,i think Chelsea,and I say this without any sentiments, just played into UEFA's hands.I feel they (UEFA) have been waiting for something like this (i.e. the aftermath of the game) to happen.

Also,i would have thought that no matter how hard it might have been,the players would have counted to 10 before making some remarks.Bosingwa has no right to call the ref a thief.Even if the comments have been taken back,the damge has been done.If I were that ref,I'd sue his ass for all he's got.That's a pretty strong accusation.
I would have loved to see another All-Prem final,but given the way things have unfolded since,I personally feel chelsea could have behaved a lot better.
