I understand what you are saying, it's one of those cases where a different ECO would have seen things differently. This refusal has given you an idea what to write as personal statement for next application.

With good explanation as you stated above your chances of getting a visa is higher if you decided to reapply.

Thank you Justwise for taking your time to respond. I truly appreciate your input. And i'll give a detailed explanation in my next application.

Sorry to hear about the refusal, do you regularly visit your husband and kids in the UK? If yes when was the last time you visited them?

No Justwise, this is actually my first application. My husband visits my son and I in Nigeria, regularly. Our son was born in lagos and we processed his british passport, right here in lagos.
I have nigerian passports from 2006,2011(which was submitted as part of son's passport process) and the latest passport with my change of surname in it.
I included all of these passports(hoping to establish some sort of tie to nigeria, since i'd never applied for a visa before, even before the financial requirement came into place). And i've been in a relationship with my husband since 2005,before we got married in 2012.
And i've been working at my present job since 2008. I did feel, all of this would show i had roots right here,in this country and will definately return back to my job.

Hi Eastner. Sorry about your refusal. Me think that ECO feels that your job is not a strong ties for you to return given the fact that your main family (husband and son) are British Citizens. Give it some times and reapply. Put more emphasis on explaining to the ECO why you will not leave your job, and that money being paid into your account is for the upkeep of your son which is obviously the responsibility of his father. If you have share, ask a your stock brooker to give a covering letter on the current values of the share. If this is your first application, don't give up. Sometime the ECO want you to proof that you will return back. Or else go for a spouse/settlement visa instead.

Thank you so much for your comment,i'll give it sometime. This is my first application,we're holding off on the settlement visa till he's able to meet the financial threshold. I suppose,i'll have to put more emphasis on the reasons why i will not leave my job.

Breaking down your cost of the trip helps a lot since you are not going to be there to explain things to the ECO.

Typical examples are the case of hotel and flight cost..if you just stated how much you budgeted for hotel or flight how will the ECO know whether that amount is for budget hotel or 5star hotel? Whether the flight is economy or first class?

Hello Justwise..Ladylco
Trust you are fine,..I received an email yesterday that my passport is ready for collection, went to pick it up today and got visa denied. Reason for the refusal,is because the money my husband is more than what i earn,it appears i rely on support from relatives outside Nigeria.I do not have incentives to come back. Also,my husband and son are both british citizens. And so,they doubt i will return at the end of the visit. Please find attached the refusal letter. M quite devastated.. What do u make of the reasons? I attached letter from company, shares, land property, son's introduction letter,results,pictures..everything that shows i've got a job and he's schooling.

Thanks a lot..Just to be clear. How do i then ensure the ECO knows if my flight is economy.Do i state it or write down just the amount?

Thank you so much for the response. I truly appreciate it. I do have evidence of the money sent to me and will add it all..If i have more questions concerning my application,i'll get back to you.

Hello Justwise, trust you are good...So,i just filled and paid for the visa application. Here's my question, there was no breakdown of cost of flight and living expenses on the form. Rather,it was,'how much money are you planning to spend on your visit?'.
So,i'll like to know if i still need to include the breakdown (cost of Flight for son & I, Cost of Living Expenses for Son & I) in my covering letter or leave it as it is.
Thank you.

Thanks a lot for the clarification.

Yes o, the guys around the tls place are making money from the photocopies. They were charging 50 naira per copy but I eventually paid 30 naira, which is still expensive so it is definitely cheaper to make your photocopies before you go there.

The Nigerian Passport is at least 32pages. Since it's rather small to take a photocopy of a single page, does this mean that, it was two leaflets on a photocopied page? That is, did you have 16 Photocopied papers after making the photocopy?
I just want to have a clearer picture cos you said photocopy each page...Thank you.

I feel you are good to go except that for your son as a British citizen, with is UK passport, he does not need a visa to travel to the UK even the USA, all you need to do in addition to all document you have stated just include copy of his british passport. Do not waste money on visa fee for him. Make sure you write a detail letter of for your application.

Best of luck

Thanks a lot. I'll include the detailed letter.
I still need answers to the questions i've listed though.
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by Eastner: 12:11pm On Dec 19, 2016
Hello House, your advice and expert opinion is needed.
I intend traveling to the UK with our child early next year to visit my husband (British citizen). Our child was born in Lagos and we applied for and got his British passport here in Lagos.
I've been working in the same company for 10years now (even before i got married) and the salary was just reviewed in September, to 210k after tax,but i'm currently paying off a loan of 50,000 naira. (brings it to 160k). I receive 5,000 naira monthly as balance from phone credit top-up (so,rather than top up with 15,000.the company tops up my phone with 10,000 and credits my account with the remaining 5,000 balance and it's not included in payslip). Periodically, i also receive bonus and also just received my 13th month salary. My monthly expenses is 50,000 naira except on occasions where i've had to carry out some projects.
My husband sends money via western union monthly too and this varies depending on expenses and what not(could be as low as 51,000 and as high as 300,000 naira , 3 times in a month).
I intend sponsoring the trip and my husband will be providing the accommodation alone.
I intend submitting my salary account for the application. These are the documents I'm thinking of submitting:

1. Employment Letter
2. Letter of Introduction From My boss stating how long I've been working,my role, that my leave has been approved and i'm to resume after.
3. 6months salary account bank statement/Covering letter
4. 6 months pay slip
5. Tax Card
6. Pensions Account Statement/Covering Letter
7. Shares Certificate
8. Land Documents
9. Utility Bill
10. Marriage Certificate/Evidence of Change of Name
11. Evidence of Additional source of Income (Western Union)
12. Wedding & Family Pictures

For Our Child
1. Birth Certificate
2. British Passport Bio-data
3. School 1st Term Results
4. Pictures of Son in School
5. Letter of Acknowledgement/confirmation from School Head.

From My Husband
1. British Passport Bio-data
2. Letter of Invitation and Consent
3. Employment Letter
4. 6 months Salary Account Statement
5. 6 months Pay slip
6. Tenancy Agreement
7. Utility Bill

Now, my questions are:
A) When filling the budget breakdown such as ,'what is the cost of the trip to me personally as well as total cost'.. do i include the cost of flight and feeding for my son? Since he's visiting with me. But he doesn't need a visa.
B) Since i'm including feeding as part of my budget, do i still need to submit my husband's statement of account? (It's not bouyant as he just returned from nigeria)
C) How much do you think is feasibile for feeding for a mom and child for 2weeks. I was budgeting 135 pounds.
D) Do i really need to add shopping?
E) When asked if the purpose of travel is to visit the person i'll be staying with, the answer is YES, right? since the primary purpose isnt sight seeing.
F) What the ties i can use to show that i will definately come back to nigeria since technically,my family members are my husband and son asides parents and inlaws in nigeria.

I'll be having 750,000 in the account i'm presenting and the budget is

Flight - 384,056 (Son and I)
Feeding & Misc - 80,000 (Son and I)

G) Can you please assist with what i've listed so far.
Thank you.
