On electricity, what are the electricity requirements for businesses in Edo State at the moment? on communications, internally, we can communicate quickly as a government, but as private sector, what are your channels of communication with the government, and what do you want to see?

The participants enumerated a number of expectations of the BERAP plan for 2025 including, actionable plans to assist entrepreneurs in the state in the area of access to market; security; road accessibility, creation of business clusters and single facilities, updated data of businesses, product standardization, tax harmonization among other things that will directly affect entrepreneurs positively in the state.

Nairaland GeneralESIPO Facilitates Access To Credit by Easy4real10(op): 5:02pm On Sep 19, 2024
...As LAPO created over 600,000 jobs in Edo

By Easy Ekoyatah

The Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO)-Ease of Doing Business Secretariat has organized a crucial information session to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Edo South with the knowledge and resources needed to access credit facilities.

The event, held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy on Tuesday, 17th September 2024, aimed to enhance the ease of doing business in the state and drive economic development.

In his opening remarks, the Managing Director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges faced by businesses in accessing credit. He highlighted the role of ESIPO in recommending incentives to businesses and the need to monitor their impact on job creation. Mr. Uwaibi stressed the government's commitment to listening to businesses and formulating policies that support their growth.

"As a government, we have said, going forward, we must engage more with businesses. The era of sitting in the office to draft policies that would regulate the business environment without first engaging with businesses to get their input is over. If we must get it right, we must ensure that businesses are part of the conversations from the beginning. So, it's important to address the issues businesses face regarding access to credit. The duty of government is actually to ensure an enabling environment for the private sector to operate, not the government competing with the private sector in doing business."

Godfrey Onaibofoh Ovensehi, Credit Team Lead at LAPO Microfinance Bank, shared impressive statistics, revealing that LAPO alone has created over 600,000 jobs through SMEs since 2016. He also noted that over 500,000 SMEs in Edo State have benefited from LAPO's loan facilities.

Odiamenhi Julius Aikhomu, Project Manager for the Edo State MSME Funds Project, provided valuable insights on navigating the loan application process. He outlined the objectives of the scheme, which include increasing employment, entrepreneurship, wealth creation, and poverty reduction.

The event was attended by representatives from various Business Member Organizations (BMOs), including the Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA), and the Nigeria Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), among others.

This collaborative effort demonstrates the commitment of both the government and private sector in fostering a thriving business environment in Edo State.

Nairaland GeneralCommunity Appeals To Obaseki To Revisit Issue Of Staff Of Office Issue In Ososo by Easy4real10(op): 5:51am On Sep 04, 2024
...Says issue before a competent court of jurisprudence

By Easy Ekoyatah

The people of Ososo community in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State have appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to critically look into the recent appointment and subsequent presentation of staff of office to one Dele Obaitan as the traditional head of Ososo.

Even as they added that the issue of who becomes the traditional head of Ososo was before a competent court of jurisprudence and waiting for the court verdict.

Narrating the facts to journalists on behalf of the ruling houses by Chief Nicholas Arokamoni which are Daudu, Saiki Tokura and Omodu, and corroborated by the head of Okporiko kindred (they are responsible to supervise the selection process) and a former Surveyor General of Edo State, Surveyor Ofiare, appealed to Edo State government to look into the purported presentation of staff of office to one Dele Obaitan noting that rulership in Ososo was captured in the Gazette that is an Edict guiding the traditional rulership of states and the then Bendel State (1979).

They noted that the rulership of the Ososo family belongs to four hands that it is supposed to be rotated among the four hands and not from father to son (the last example was unanimously agreed by the large family to compensate the Obaitan family due to the short reign of Okwedu II) as being done and claimed by the said Dele Obaitan family and Dele who doesn't speak nor understand the tradition, culture and custom of Ososo. Kingship of Ososo did not start with the Obaitan family and shouldn't be hijacked permanently too.

Continuing they said the Regent and the 1979 Gazette of the Bendel State on chieftaincy and tradition emphatically said it that the throne is not from father to son and this they also know from time immemorial that it is by rotation from the four ruling houses that they choose who will be installed as king in Ososo.

They noted that the title or kingship as earlier said is not from father to son as now being claimed by a section of the Tokurah's children precisely Chief Orifa. It is rotated amongst the four ruling families because it has always been a collective struggle namely; Daudu, Tokurah, Saiki and Imuodu. These four ruling families in seniority order, will not now allow, accept and or condone the Orifa's children (a section of an arm of the 4 families) to continue to usurp the throne which belong to all of them (Ugbedu Royal House).

"We want to put the records straight and also inform the enlightened Ososo populace and the entire world that the said Dele Obaitan is just parading himself against our customs and traditions. He is not appointed to rule, as the oracle divination or our ancestors never choose him. Emawe (Tokurah) was never a ruler before he died, and taking or using his name as a title is sacrilegious with dire consequences to be visited on such person or persons who orchestrated it."

They further added that it will be wise if the said Dele Obaitan stop flaunting the Executive Governor of Edo State's name to deceive some ignorant Ososo populace and parading hired and gullible chiefs noting that "we know that Governor Obaseki will not jump to approve a king or rulership if due process is not followed and historical background is not revealed to him to study properly which will enable him to make an informed decision" adding that doing otherwise will bring the people back to 1942 and this time it will be worst and destructive.

In their conclusion, they said the four ruling families want the result of the oracle divination to be followed and the other customs and traditions in the choice of the Ososo rulership to be adhered to strictly and advised the general public to know that the said Dele Obaitan is not what he is claiming to be and appealed to the State Governor to please revisit the issue of the presentation of staff of office to avoid total breakdown of law and order in the community.

They then made it known and categorically clear that it is not the head of Ugbedu kindred who crowns a king (Olososo), but the head of the Okporikpo kindred.

Withdraw Soldiers Illegally Assigned To Company Officials - Community Nat'l Leader Appeals To President Tinubu

By Easy Ekoyatah

The National Leader of Ologbo-Nugu Community and former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ), Edo State Council, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, has called on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to order the withdrawal of soldiers illegally assigned to officials of Barnsley Oil Palm Plc (SARO Farms) by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

Comrade Erhahon who is equally a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said the way that SARO Farm officials are using soldiers to harass his people in their farms tends to reduce the duty of our military to that of attack dogs that have no rules of engagement.

"Such would not be tolerated even under military administration," he asserted

Erhahon reiterated that his people are not against SARO Farms investing on their land but that they should do so in line with their mutual agreement to leave 250 hectares for the community to farm.

“We are not opposed to the investment and great industrial development by Obaseki-led administration, but we oppose the activities of Barnsley Nigeria Limited, operators of SARO Farms who are hell bent on frustrating the governor's good intentions.

"I confronted Governor Godwin Obaseki on the refusal the company (SARO Farms) to leave enough land for my people to farm and the Governor replied me clearly that the company briefed him that they left 250 hectares for the community. Whereas what they left is less than 50 hectares.

"Why should they lie to the Governor who has become a friend of the community that they left 250 hectares for us when in actual fact, they only ceded 50 hectare", Erhahon queried.

"As I said earlier, we are not against Barnsley Nigeria Limited, operators of SARO investing on our land but they should respect our right to have the mutually agreed size of the land ceded to us for farming.

"To reciprocate the respect that Governor Obaseki has accorded us, we will consider the only 250 hectares if allocated to us in our chosen location.

"For peace to rain, SARO should send Dr. Tunde away from the entire project so that he won't continue to jeopardize our relationship. Imagine, after hearing that journalists will be visiting the farm, Dr. Tunde stormed the farm with several Hilux full of soldiers to chase our people out of their farms. He needs to be tamed.

“I appeal to the President and Commander-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the Chief of Army Staff to withdraw all the Soldiers he illegally assigned to the community. journalists, the Odionwere (Custodian) of Ologbo-Nugu, Pa. Aduwa Osaigbovo, aged 96, declared that what they are protesting is the very crude and barbaric approach deployed by SARO Farms to grab our land without leaving a space for the community to farm,” he added.

Pa Osaigbovo, lamented that they don't have land again to cultivate food crops since the community reneged on the instruction of the Governor Obaseki to leave 250 hectares for them to farm knowing fully well what people pass through because of lack of food stuffs.

"What we are protesting is the very crude, barbaric, oppressive and exploitative approach by which SARO Farms grabbed our land without leaving space for us to farm.

"You can imagine them taken over 600 hectares of our farmland, leaving less than 50 hectares for us the rightful landlords. They even lied to the Governor that they left 250 hectares for us. They carried many soldiers along with them to intimidate our people both in their farms and in the community whenever they have to meet with our people."

Godwin Sorae Enoguan, the Community Secretary, Youth Leaders, Mr. Osasere Ezolobo and Woman Leader, Justina Osakue also addressed the issue. They emphasized that the land in question is part of the Urhonigbe Forest Reserve and that the government had promised to allocate 250 hectares to the community.
Nairaland GeneralEdo Community Protests False Acquisition Of Farmland By SARO Farms by Easy4real10(op): 12:58pm On Aug 08, 2024
By Easy Ekoyatah

The people of Orogho-Nugu Community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State has protested against an alleged fraudulent acquisition of a significant portion of their ancestral farmland by Barnsley Oil Palm Plc, the operator of SARO Farms.

The protesters, consisting of elders, women, and youths, marched through the community’s main streets holding placards with messages such as “This Is The Only Land We Have,” “No MoU, No Land For SARO,” “Dr. Tunde, Stop Deceiving Us,” “SARO, Leave 250 Hectares For Us To Farm Or Quit Our Land,” and “Governor Obaseki, Save Us From Dr. Tunde.”

The community is calling on the Edo State government, the Oba of Benin, and other relevant authorities to intervene and help retrieve their ancestral farmland, which they claim was wrongfully taken by SARO Farms.

During the protest, Pa Aduwa Osaigbovo, the community head (Odionwere), stated, “The Edo State government informed us that it planned to divide our farmland, allocating part of it to us for our usual farming and the other part to SARO Farms. We agreed without resistance. My ancestors farmed in that area before the government converted it to a reserve, requiring us to pay to use the land. We have complied ever since.

“Recently, SARO Farms came and bulldozed our crops - yams, plantains, and cassava - leaving us without farmland and food. We are now struggling to feed our families. Despite our efforts to obtain the portion of the land promised to us, we have faced deceit from Dr. Tunde, who represents SARO Farms. We never signed any documents with anyone; SARO Farms simply informed us that the land was sold to them.”

Pa Aduwa Osaigbovo further noted that their attempts to meet with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, have been unsuccessful.

Godwin Sorae Enoguan, the community secretary, and leaders Mr. Osasere Ezolobo and Justina Osakue also addressed the issue. They emphasized that the land in question is part of the Urhonigbe Forest Reserve and that the government had promised to allocate 250 hectares to the community.

“Three years ago, we were told the government had sold the land. We appealed to the government and were assured of the 250 hectares. When SARO Farms arrived, they brought bulldozers and military personnel to forcibly remove us from our farms. To avoid violence, we decided to appeal to the government to fulfill its promise,” they explained.

Dr. Tunde Fatoruti, representing Barnsley Nigeria Limited, which operates SARO Farms, directed inquiries to the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (EDSIPO) for further information on the matter.

In a swift response, the Managing Director (MD), Edo State Investment Promotion Office (EDSIPO), Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi said, “this is the period of propaganda, whoever told the media about SARO Farms story may not be saying the truth, however, the is need for all parties to including media to sit down and find out what went wrong.”

Uwaibi was however puzzled about why his name was mentioned in the context of the SARO Farms story and believes a thorough discussion is needed to address any misunderstandings.

PoliticsFederal High Court Judgement Is A Victory LP Constitution, Says Edo LP by Easy4real10(op): 10:50pm On Jul 22, 2024
By Easy Ekoyatah

The Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP) today said the party received with great excitement the verdict of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin, striking out the suit challenging the legitimacy of Barr. Julius Abure's National chairmanship of our great party.

While stating this in a press statement, the State State Publicity Secretary of the party, Airen Igbinedion noted that the judgment is a victory for the constitution of labour party, which clearly states that no ward, local government, or state has the power to suspend or remove the National Chairman from office as only a two-thirds majority vote from a national convention organized by the National Chairman solely for that purpose can remove the National Chairman from office.

According to him, "The State Working Committee (SWC), under the able chairmanship of the Rt. Honourable (Mrs) Elizabeth Ativie, hereby calls on members and supporters of our great party to rally around our National Chairman to deliver victory for our party and its candidate in the September 21 election. The Abure victory, coming at a time when the state is in dire need of good governance, should be seen as an impetus to win the election.

"We therefore urge all members of our party and Obidient supporters in Edo State to continue their evangelism to take back Edo and Nigeria from usurpers."

Nairaland GeneralCrisis In Edo NMA Over Alleged Plot To Impose Chairmanship Candidate by Easy4real10(op): 9:34pm On Jul 17, 2024
By Easy Ekoyatah

Some stakeholders in the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State chapter on Wednesday called for a free and fair election deviod of external influence from the outgoing leadership, alleging of attempts to manipulate the forthcoming election process.

The Edo NMA stakeholders equally warned of imminent crisis in the Association should the call for a credible, free, and fair election be ignored by the leaders and elders of the Edo NMA.

The call is coming on the heels of the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent chairman of the Edo NMA, Dr. Udoka Imoisili in less than a month.

Top contenders for the Edo NMA Chairmanship position, include Dr. Eustace Oseghale and the incumbent Edo NMA Deputy Chairman, Dr. Benson Okwara, who are jostling to succeed the outgoing Chairman.

The stakeholders who frowned at any attempt to impose a candidate on the state NMA alleged that the outgoing executive had a history of crisis rocking their tenure as a result of similar imposition in the past.

They vow to resist any
intent to sabotage a credible electoral process and deny other NMA members their due nominations into the Electoral Commission.

A source in the NMA told Our Correspondent that several issues of misappropriation and maladministration rocked the outgoing tenure of the Edo NMA with almost no achievement recorded throughout the uneventful tenure of the current executive.

According to the source who didn't want his name in print, a lot of issues marred the outgoing administration which includes but not limited to constituting the Electoral Committee (ELECO) without following the due process as enshrined in relevant sections of the association's constitution.

Other concerns raised by the doctors were refusal to add bona-fide and due-paying members to the Edo NMA official WhatsApp group leading to general disenchantment and disinterest in the activities of the association.

The source added that, "Recent events within the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State chapter has become glaringly made it evident that there is a grand plan to manipulate the forthcoming election process. This manipulation is starkly highlighted by the resignation of a member of the Electoral Commission who cited alleged "external influences" in its operations.

" In her resignation letter, she informed the members of the Edo NMA that the Electoral Commission is proceeding without a representative from the Edo South zone, a region that comprises over 60% of the doctors in Edo NMA, which several stakeholders consider anomalous.

"This blatant disregard for fair representation violates the NMA Constitution, specifically Page 28, Section 12, Article 11, which mandates that all zones must be represented in the Electoral Commission.

"It is imperative that the NMA upholds democratic principles, ensuring a fair and transparent election process for the benefit of all its members."

Nairaland GeneralCourt Restrains Edo Govt, Others From Trespassing On Obagie-nevbuosa Land by Easy4real10(op): 12:31pm On Jul 16, 2024
By Easy Ekoyatah

An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City has restrained the Claimants and Defendants in Suit No. B/672/2023 from trespassing on land measuring approximately 200.309 hectares, as marked and delineated in survey plan No. SEA/ED/97, situated in Obagie-Nevbuosa, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State pending the hearing and determination of a substantive suit filed by Mayer Uyiekpen Ologbosere and Porticall International Farm Ltd.

The defendants include the Governor of Edo State, Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Edo State.

The decision of the court presided over by Hon. Justice A. N. Erhabor followed a motion on notice brought pursuant to Order 40 (1)(2)(3) and (4) of the Edo State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2018 and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.

The claimants/applicants had prayed the court for an order of interlocutory injunction to restrain the defendants/respondents who are Edo state Governor, Edo state Attorney General/Commissioner For Justice and Edo state Commissioner For Physical Planning/Urban Development, their servants, agents, or any person acting on their behalf or instruction, from further trespassing on the claimants' farm complex where Coral City is about to be sited in Benin city.

Additionally, the claimants/applicants sought any other orders the court may deem fit in the circumstances of the case.

Mayer Uyiekpen Ologbosere and Porticall International Farm Limited had approached a Benin High Court following the sudden taken over of the large expanse of their farm land with a certificate of occupancy number EDSR 14764 by Edo State government.

The claimants/applicants had filed a 28 paragraph affidavit, Exhibits and a written address attached while the Defendants/Respondents filed a 7 paragraph counter affidavit and a written address attached.

Consequently, the court stated that the affidavits from both parties are highly contentious, even combative and added that restraining one side in the matter may send a wrong signal that the matter has been decided against the party so restrained.

The court however restrained both parties in the suit, their agents, servants and anyone acting on their authority and promised to give the matter an accelerated hearing for peace and order.

Meanwhile, the court has issued a Notice of Consequence of Disobedience to the Order of Court to the General Manager of Coral City Office, the Managing Director of Edo Geographic Information Service, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State, the Managing Director of Hartland Construction Company Limited, the Managing Director of Sterling Bank PLC, and the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

In a notice sighted by newsmen in Benin City and signed by the court registrar, the court said "Take Notice that unless you obey the directions contained in this order, you would be guilty of contempt of court and would be liable to be committed to prison".

PoliticsI Remain Authentic Chairman Of Edo Labour Party – Ogbaloi by Easy4real10(op): 5:16pm On Jun 04, 2024
By Zion Izechukwu

Following some factional set of Labour Party (LP) formation of Committee at the state level purportedly led by Elizabeth Ativie, factional chairman of the party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi has said that he remain Chairman of Labour Party of Edo State chapter, describing any committee as illegal and alien to the party constitution and principles for which the party is known.

He said he has no knowledge of any committee as far Labour Party is concerned, hence, no party member can lay claim of any kangaroo committee that was formed from the backyard, allegedly sponsored by external forces.

Ogbaloi spoke while addressing Journalists in Benin City over the internal crisis rocking the party at the state level.

According to Ogbaloi, "You are talking to me at the secretariat of Labour Party, that alone shows that I am the substantive chairman of Labour party in Edo State. Yes, organizations may need changed, offices may expire and maybe needing replacement but in these changes there are procedures but where you violate procedures, you cannot as a matter of fact lay claim that changes has happened. And so for us, whatever changes that has been done by the national office, we are not aware of it".

Comrade Ogbaloi explained that Labour Party members are watchers of proceedings and keepers of such positive proceedings and cannot be a party to any illegal procedure to being in illegal and so, the State Working Committee of Labour Party as led by Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi remain intact and would continue to function in the utmost interest of the party and its members.

He said the party has the right to organize and manage it party but in doing this, there's a procedure to it spelt out in the constitution of the party but if it fails to meet this standard it means the party has not operate appropriately the way it should be.

Ogbaloi explained that at the expiration of tenure, the party has organs that would put machineries in place to conduct congress to fill in the vacant positions and this function is not the responsibility of the chairman of Labour Party to so do without the authorization and management of national body of the party.

He continues "A national convention was held by the party and the takeaway from that convention was that there is an election in Edo State in September 21, 2024 for such reasons, congresses of the party should be kept on hold.

"So if a congress which is more legitimate is to be put on hold, how do you juxtapose that with a committee, just within three months to a governorship election, he queried".

Comrade Ogbaloi said with the party going into a crucial governorship election in the state, it is not enough for some persons to gather in one hotel and named themselves officers of the party that is not recognized by the national body and alien to the constitution of the party.

According to Ogbaloi "The influences of external forces cannot be excused in the present internal crisis of Labour Party because when you discovered that the national body of the party is not in control of the party, not in control of it decisions, then you begin to think that something is terribly happening to the party.

"If such a novel behaviour is coming from the managers of the party, it therefore means that something is fundamentally wrong somewhere".

He advised members of the party not to be discouraged but keep the obedient spirit alive and active to deliver the party's candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata as governor comes September 21, 2024.

Comrade Ogbaloi however noted that the party was opened for resolution and promised that the issues would be settled as it was an internal crisis which is normal in all political parties in the country and across the world.

Okoukoni said the importance of education cannot be over-emphasized as it still remains the sure foundation of any developed nations.

“If a country is said to be developed, the educational system of that country has the credit,” he added.

The founder of Okoukoni Care Foundation noted that there are a lot of school children that have dropped out of schools or ended up their educational pursuit half way just because there is no money to further it.

He said as a lover of education, he will not fold his hands and watch the children who are the future leaders of the country been deprived from achieving their goals and put the country in the right footings.

He said that, to achieve that, the children must be allowed to go to school and not to be hindered.

While emphasizing that the enrollment for the indigent students of the state, is just part of his contributions to the development of the state and by extension, Nigeria at large, he however called on the would-be beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity and put in their best in their academics so that the purpose of giving out that money would be justified.

…Marks 61st Birthday In Grand Style

By Easy Ekoyatah

As part of the activities lined up to mark his 61st birthday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bibi Hotels, Benin City, Edo State and former House of Representatives Aspirant for Oredo Federal Constituency, Mr. Sunny Aguebor, has supported some Edo women with monetary gift to boost their businesses.

The event which took place at the Event Hall of Bibi Hotel on Boundary Road, Benin City, Edo State,

In his welcome address, the celebrant, Mr. Sunny Aguebor said he decided to embark on the philanthropist gesture based on what he experienced recently while driving through Ekiosa Market in Benin City

According to him, “Just about three weeks ago, as I was driving along Ekiosa Market, I saw a woman picking tomatoes on the floor. I don't know what transpired, but she was picking the tomatoes on the ground. Something struck my mind and told my driver to stop. I called her and asked why she was crying. She said, I borrowed money to purchase the tomatoes that fell on the ground. I am the bread winner of the family and my husband is not doing so well, the selling of tomatoes is what she and her husband relied upon to take care of their children.

“I was touched, and I asked her how much she gets from the tomatoes. She said, everything she spent is N15,000. (So, because of N15,000 you are crying like this? I asked). I said to her, don’t pack the tomatoes. I then called a POS operator close by because I was not with cash, I withdrew the N15,000 and gave it to her. I advised her to be careful next time. Go get another tomatoes with the N15,000, I advised her. She was very happy and in that happiness she started crying. She wanted to know me and l said it is not necessary, then l left.

“When l got home I said to myself, this year of my birthday, what l will do is to identify with those categories of women who are not stable; they are just managing - l want to help them with cash to support their business.”

Going further Aguebor said, he decided to engage his good friend and close associate – a human right activist, Roy Oribhabor to help identify women in that category in Edo State so that l can render little assistance to support whatever they are doing to earn a living, whether tomatoes, corn seller, fish seller, etc.

"I want to encourage you to use whatever will be given to you today judiciously, if God willing, l would monitor you, next year, whatever we are given to you will be double my birthday next year.

"You should go back and work very hard. You know the situation in the country - Nigeria has derailed completely. This is not Nigeria of our dream, everything has gone bad, and nothing seems to be working.

“So, this is the time where we need patriot, this time is not for politics, this is the time for patriot; the lover of this country should come together, salvage the country from complete collapse.

“So, let us be courage and be hopeful because the God that sent us to this world will give us the courage and energy to continue to move on and move on well,” he added.

In his remark, Prince Emma Ehiabhi, a friend of the celebrant of more than 30 years said wealth is into different categories; there are those who are wealthy and they don't touch life, but they just front it in other to intimate the poor, and there are those who have, they use it to identify with the poor. As far as l am concerned, those who use their wealth to identify with the progress of the poor are actually the rich people.

“We have been close for more than 30 years, he has remain foresight and look at his heart, he has a heart of gold, he hates injustice, and he doesn't like to see people suffer. And when l carry out my investigation, l discovered that he is a replica of his late father.

"I pray to God Almighty to continue to bless and prosper him. It is person that have money that would give out. I also pray that God continue to guide him so that he will not deviate from this kind gesture," he said.

Nairaland GeneralDisregard Rumours Alleging Dissolution Of Edo LP Exco - Uroupa by Easy4real10(op): 11:41am On May 10, 2024
By Easy Ekoyatah

Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has reacted to publications trending in some online news platform, that one Comrade Ken Omusi the suspended former State Youth Leader is now the acting chairman of the party in the state.

In a press statement issued by Comrade Sam Uroupa, State Publicity Secretary (SPS) of the party and made available to newsmen alleged that, the self-acclaimed acting chairman, Comrade Ken Omusi brought thugs numbering over fifty including members of the Edo State Security Network to invade the party secretariat in the early hours of Thursday, 9th May, 2024 at Ogbelaka Street, Benin City, Edo State capital alleging that the state exco of the party has been dissolved.

According to Comrade Uroupa, the former state youth leader of the party was suspended alongside others for anti-party activities, gross insubordination and revealing classical official information about the party to non-members of the party, among others.

“To put the records in proper perspective, Comrade Ken Omusi was the former state youth leader of the party who was suspended alongside Alao Emmanuel, Engr. Jolly Isokpehi, Hon. Simeon Akharame, Mr. Iredia Sunday, Victor Omokpor and Arch. Lucky Imhanmwuokor for anti-party activities, gross insubordination and revealing classical official information about the party to non-members of the party, among others.

“We wish to state categorically that the State Executive Council (SEC) as led by distinguished Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi is still the substantive Exco of the party in the State, it has not been dissolved.

“The party equally contacted the National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure of the development who also confirmed that he is not aware of any dissolution neither did he direct any one to act on his behalf.

“As a party we are convinced beyond all reasonable doubt that Comrade Ken Omusi is been sponsored by the PDP led government in the state to destabilize LP otherwise, how would one reconcile the involvement of men of the Edo State security network under the office of the deputy governor in over seven Siena buses in company of the suspended youth leader to come and violently take over the LP Secretariat?

“We are therefore calling on the general public, people of good conscience, all lovers of democracy across the world and Edolites in particular to appeal to the PDP led government in the State to let Labour Party (LP) breath.

“As a party we are appealing to all voters in the state to come out emasse and vote for LP and its candidate Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata as we are determined and resolute in our quest to give Edo people quality development and the dividend democracy if voted in power come September 21st 2024.”

By Easy Ekoyatah

Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has reacted to publications trending in some online news platform, by a group which calls itself ‘Shine Your Eyes Group’ (SYEG) and claims to be part of Edo State chapter of the party

In a press statement issued on behalf of the party by Comrade Sam Uroupa, State Publicity Secretary and made available to newsmen in Benin City stated that there is no pressure group known as 'Shine Your Eyes Group' within the Edo State LP or in the party’s constitution adding that the signatory to the news item being peddled by the group are not members of Labour Party.

The LP statement also condemned the commendation the said group gave to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State for adhering to the principle of fairness and equity in the choice of its governorship candidate and running mate.

“The public should be aware that the pseudonyms (Comrade Jonah Ifada and Osagie Omoregie as chairman and secretary, respectively) are not members of the Edo LP, and as such, they are not in our records in the state.

“Their LGAs and wards where they claim to be working as party members are not known to us. It is clear that they are sponsored by the opposition party, the APC, on whose behalf they are speaking. It is unfortunate that the self-proclaimed SYEG did not acknowledge the hardships brought upon Nigerians by the Tinubu-led APC government, which calls for Nigerians to "shine their eyes" rather than calling for scrutiny on a free and fair LP primary that was devoid of any rancor and crisis, resulting in the selection of the distinguished legal luminary Barr. Olumide Osaigbove Akpata as its flag bearer.”

Going further, the LP image maker added: “Perhaps we need to remind the said SYEG that the Tinubu-led APC they commended for adhering to the principles of fairness and equity in the selection of its governorship candidate and running mate could not conduct a free, fair, and credible primary in the state. The APC primary was marred by irregularities, claims and counterclaims of factional flag bearers/candidates, leading to the cancellation and re-conducting of their primaries in the state. This is unlike the Edo State LP primary, which was conducted once and for all with the participation of eight aspirants, where aspirants from Edo Central were in the majority. Therefore, ignorantly comparing the LP with the APC is uncalled for, as they are separate political parties with distinct internal structures and decision-making processes.

“It is laughable for SYEG to call for a validly nominated candidate in a free and fair primary, who scored 316 out of 340 votes, to step down for a candidate who scored 7 votes. The governorship primary election of the Labour Party was conducted transparently, with the presence of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, security agencies, and other independent electoral observers, with live coverage on Channels TV. The involvement of INEC officials, observers, and the public airing of the process demonstrate the credibility and fairness of the election. The alleged claim by SYEG that the primary was skewed is false and baseless.

“The transparency of the primary election, the absence of zoning considerations within the LP, and the party's commitment to merit-based selections indicate that zoning is not a constitutional requirement within the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State. The LP has not previously held the governorship position in the state, indicating that the party does not owe any specific ethnicity or senatorial district the governorship position based on zoning principles. Therefore, the argument of zoning should not apply within the LP context.

“The accusation made by the anonymous group against the Edo State LP, stating that they have ‘murdered sleep,’ is particularly ironic given that the APC-led government has caused significant hardship for Nigerians, depriving them of rest due to their mismanagement of the country.

“Therefore, we call upon the esteemed members of the public, especially the resilient citizens of Edo State, to dismiss the unfounded allegations of this anonymous group. We implore you to stand united and show your unwavering support by turning out in large numbers to cast your votes for the LABOUR PARTY and its distinguished candidate, Barrister OLUMIDE OSAIGBOVO AKPATA in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21st, 2024. Let us join hands in solidarity to usher in a new era of progress, integrity, and prosperity for Edo State. Together, we can make a difference and shape a brighter future for our beloved state.”

Nairaland GeneralEdo LP Extols Workers On International Workers’ Day Celebration by Easy4real10(op): 11:17am On May 01, 2024

The Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP) has congratulated Edo workers in particular and Nigeria in general on the occasion of the 2024 Workers’ Day Celebration.

According to the message signed by Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, the immediate past president of National Union of Shop and Distributive Employees, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), former Auditor and Assistant Secretary, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Edo State Council and Chairman of Edo State chapter of Labour Party, noted that the issues that led to the inaugural celebration of May Day in 1887 are still prevalent in Nigeria today.

“It must be stated abinitio that the events leading to the celebration of the May Day in 1887 are dominant today in Nigeria.”

Edo LP Chairman Ogbaloi pointed out that the contributory importance of the workforce to the economic growth, sustainability and advancement of any nation cannot be overemphasized, noting that no nation survives without its workforce and deplored the insecurity in Edo that has reduced agricultural production and stifled economic activities in the state.

According to him, “The insecurity generally across the length and breadth of Edo State is taking its toll on the workers and the citizens. People cannot sleep with their two eyes closed for fear of being kidnapped, killed or extorted. Life in Edo State has become short and unbearable.

“The high rate of inflation have put a deep hole in the pockets of workers and has rendered the minimum wage nugatory. The paradox of the Nigerian workers is that they create the wealth and are left out in the sharing of the wealth created by them. Thus the average Edo worker is poor, pauperized and dehumanized. Most workers cannot boast of a befitting building at the end of their meritorious services to Edo State.

“As we approach 21st September, 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State, I strongly believe if Olumide Akpata, Labour Party governorship candidate, is voted as the next governor of Edo State, most workers will boast of a befitting building at the end of their meritorious service to Edo State.”

Going further, the president Emeritus of National Union of Shop and Distributive Employees, “Acknowledged the resilience of workers in the state despite the unstable foreign exchange rates and exponential inflation of the prices of goods and commodities; workers have shown their commitment to maintain an adaptive working attitude.”

He therefore seized the opportunity of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration to call on the Edo workers to be vigilant and avail themselves the opportunity to vote for credible leadership whenever they have the opportunity to do so at their various unions. He urged them to bring leaders on board who will be selfless, dedicated and passionate about their welfare.

PoliticsEdo Guber: Labour Party Rejects INEC Final List by Easy4real10(op): 5:54pm On Apr 22, 2024
…Insists Alhaji Asamah Yusuf Kadiri is the authentic Dep. Gov’Ship Candidate

By Easy Ekoyatah

The Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP) has faulted the final list as published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in which the deputy governorship candidate is listed as Oluyinka Faith Alufohai rather than LP validly nominated running mate, Alhaji Asamah Yusuf Kadiri, (SAN).

Recalled on the 19th of April, 2024, The9JaTREND reported that Labour Party governorship candidate in the September 21st gubernatorial election, Olumide Akpata has dropped Oluyinka Faith Alufohai and picked Alhaji Asamah Yusuf Kadiri, SAN as the deputy governorship candidate of the party.

In a press statement signed by Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, State chairman of the party and made available to newsmen in Benin City, assured party members and supporters that “this is simply a technical error”.

According to Comrade Ogbaloi, “Our team followed all necessary procedures and submitted Alhaji Kadiri's name and credentials as the deputy governorship candidate, well within INEC's stipulated window. Unfortunately, a technical glitch occurred at the end of the National Headquarters of our party during the submission process, resulting in the incorrect name appearing on the final list.

“We are currently actively engaged with INEC officials to rectify this issue immediately and our team has provided all requisite documentation demonstrating Alhaji Kadiri's valid nomination. We have been following-up with INEC diligently, to ensure it updates its candidate list with the accurate information.

“We recognise the anxiety this error may cause, but urge our supporters to remain calm and steadfast in their commitment to our party's vision. Your unwavering support and activism have been invaluable thus far, and we need you to continue spreading awareness of our platform and championing the positive change we represent.

“The Labour Party is determined to contest the forthcoming September 21, 2024, Edo State Governorship elections fairly and transparently. We should not allow this minor administrative hurdle to dampen our confidence or impede our momentum. Together, we shall overcome any obstacle, minor or major, as we continue our march towards restoring Edo State to its pride of place nationally.”

…Calls for dialogue, togetherness towards Edo Gov’ship election

By Easy Ekoyatah

In the spirit of celebration, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State, Hon. James Umaigba has urged party members, supporters and stakeholders to embrace dialogue, togetherness in preparation for September 21st gubernatorial elections.

The appeal was made by former Ward 5 Councillor and former Majority Leader in the legislative arm of Ikpoba Okha local government council, Hon. James Umaigba as he marks his birthday, today 21st April, 2024.

Filled with happiness, Hon. Umaigba, a businessman in the real estate industry said, "As I celebrate another blessed year of life today, I am immensely thankful to Almighty God for His continuous grace and blessings.

"On this special day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude towards our dedicated party leadership, whose unwavering commitment and meticulous planning are instrumental in steering the APC towards a triumphant outcome in the upcoming gubernatorial elections."

Going further, he noted: "It is crucial at this juncture to acknowledge and address the internal disputes within our APC Ikpoba Okha chapter. Such conflicts, particularly at a time when we should be united, threaten to undermine our collective efforts and weaken our stance against a well-prepared opposition.

"The presence of leadership tussles within our ranks is particularly alarming as it distracts from our primary objective."

While strongly urging every member involved in these disputes to prioritize the greater good of our party and focus on the upcoming elections scheduled for September 21, Hon. Umaigba emphasized that the results of September 21st governorship elections will undoubtedly clarify any uncertainties regarding leadership, rendering any current conflicts both unnecessary and unproductive.

He noted: "Our primary focus should now shift to engaging and rallying our voters across all wards, ensuring that every member is aligned with our strategy to secure victory. The role of Ikpoba Okha is critical in the context of Edo State; it acts as a significant indicator of our potential success and should not be underestimated.

"On this day of reflection and celebration, let us reinforce our commitment to unity and collective success. Let us remember that our strength lies in our solidarity. By aligning our efforts and focusing on our shared objectives, we are not just aiming for a victory in the elections, but also working towards the greater prosperity and stability of Edo State. Let's move forward together, steadfast and united, for the betterment of our community and party."

PoliticsAkpata's UNIBEN Invitation Is Labour Party's Business, Not Personal - Ogbaloi by Easy4real10(op): 3:05pm On Apr 20, 2024
…Says I never granted interview to any journalist as far as the situation is concerned

…Akpata is my candidate, his business is my business; is the business of LP – Ogbaloi

By Easy Ekoyatah

Chairman of the Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP), Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi has debunked a statement credited to him by some online newspapers that the LP governorship candidate in the September 21, 2024 gubernatorial election, Barr. Olumide Akpata’s invitation to the Uniben Staff Club was a private affair, which had nothing to do with the party.

Comrade Ogbaloi disclosed this in an interview with The9JaTREND today, 20th April, 2024 at the party’s secretariat in Benin City, Edo State capital.

Ogbaloi, showing bitterness and disappointment over the alleged comment, said I didn’t take any interview with any journalist at all.

“Well, let me say clearly that I didn't take any interview with any journalist at all. It's the fact that when the incident happened, few persons spoke to me who were not described as journalists; and at no time did I position myself in an interview in that respect and so I did mention to them ‘yes, I'm invited by the police.’

“But it shows some resentment when I said that the police have over escalated the issue by inviting me in my person. I mentioned that to the individual who spoke with me and that my candidate, Barr. Olumide Akpata was in uniben to honour invitation but however, I was not there with him at that particular time, and that is not to say that we are saying that or I was saying that the issue was out rightly a personal matter of our candidate.

While emphasizing that today, Barr. Olumide Akpata is the candidate of Edo LP Party, Comrade Ogbaloi noted: “Whatever concerns Akpata concerns Labour Party (LP). We take his duties and he takes our duty, we are intertwined. And so if he had gone to uniben, it is not completely disconnected from his personality and the personality of Labour Party. And for me to be quoted as saying that it was a personal issue, which have nothing to do with Labour Party is not my statements and I want to make that very clear.

“And to that extent, I have not granted an interview on this matter for me to be quoted as it is in that piece of news which is regrettable and I hereby debunk that, and that I wouldn't further have said in such situation when of course people will go out and put things down when no interview was appropriately conducted.

“Well, in conclusion, yes, I am amenable to go to the police station and I have made it clear to the police that I will be coming. In fact when the letters came I was not in Benin City. So there was no way I could instantly have responded to the police and besides that, I also needed to put my candidate Barr. Olumide Akpata on notice that I have gotten this letter, so that both of us will look at it together and visit the police.

“Of course it is concluded that we shall be with the police, say about 2.00p.m on Monday when of course is around time. So that piece of news is regretted and I hope that journalists must make themselves extremely professional in taking interview from people. That particular piece of news is not coming from me since I did not take interview on it, okay.

“To my teeming supporters and those who must have read that piece of news, I’m here to reconstruct that position to say that, that was not my statement; that news was never coming from me. Akpata is my candidate, his business today is my business, and it is as well the business of the party. I will drive to all logical conclusions what will enthrone him as the next governor of Edo State. I want to make that clear, and I’m further to say that those who insinuate that there is a disconnect between the candidate and the party are day dreaming, and I make bold to say that such thoughts only exist in figment of their imagination. We are one indivisible entity and we’re moving together to the task of Labour Party taking over to produce the next government of Edo State.”

PoliticsEdo PDP Denies Involvement In Alleged Attack On Labour Party Gov'ship Candidate, by Easy4real10(op): 3:19pm On Apr 13, 2024
By Easy Ekoyatah

The Edo chapter of the People's Democratic Party PDP has denied involvement in the alleged attack on the Labour Party governorship candidate Olumide Akpata at the Staff Club of the University of Benin recently as being circulated in an unsigned statement in the social media.

In a statement signed by the State Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Party, Dr. Patrick Ojebuobor and made available to the newsmen, the PDP notes that the party is a law abiding entity and obeys all the laws of the land.

The statement pointed out that the Labour Party is not a threat to the PDP in the September Edo State governorship election as all the remaining members of the party has joined the PDP fold.

"The PDP would have ignored the statement outright as it was neither signed by the Labour Party nor their governorship candidate, but decided to issue this clarification for the benefit of the unsuspecting members of the public.

"The PDP has no hand in the alleged purported attack on the Labour Party governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata (Esq) at the University of Benin as contained in the said unsigned statement.

"The PDP is a law abiding political party and have respect for and observe the rule of law in its entirety as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and other extant laws, rules and regulations in our statute books.

"The PDP which doesn't believe in violence and thuggery does not have to resort to the use of unconventional means to tackle the Labour Party candidate or any of its opponents in the September Edo State governorship election as Labour Party is not in contention in the election.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the Labour Party which has been on life support since the 2023 Edo State House of Assembly election has finally given up the ghost since His Excellency, Mr. Marvelous Godwins Omobayo, the Deputy Governor joined the PDP; carrying along with him the remaining vestige of the party and all the support groups".

While describing the authors of the unsigned statement as idle minds masquerading supporters of the Labour Party governorship candidate to curry favour in the form of financial benefits, the statement urged them to explore employment opportunities in the Governor Godwin Obaseki led PDP administration and be engaged gainfully to secure their future.

"We state further that, that our candidate had an incident free outing at the University of Benin Staff Club recently does not mean that the PDP should be accused of complicity when any other group or individual is allegedly attacked at that same venue thereafter as the impostors circulation the fake statement wants the public to believe.

"The PDP urge these idle minds masquerading as supporters of governorship candidates of these mushroom parties to curry favour and daily bread to explore any of the numerous job opportunities provided by the Governor Godwin Obaseki led PDP administration in the state to be gainfully employed and stay away from the act of hero worshipping that will ruin their future.

"We urge the general public to disregard this unsubstantiated and jaundiced statement from these idle minds and throw it into the trash can which it rightly belongs".
