NDC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Attacks, Destruction of Billboards, Intimidation of Opposition Member By APC In Edo

The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused individuals allegedly linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of subjecting opposition members and supporters to harassment, destruction of Billboards, intimidation and violence across the state.

The party made the allegation during a press conference held in Benin City on Tuesday, October 28, 2026. The briefing was addressed by the Edo State Director-General of the Obi/Kwankwaso Campaign Organization, Hon. John Yakubu.

Yakubu disclosed that the party had received several complaints over the past six weeks involving alleged arbitrary arrests, threats, disruption of political meetings, attacks on campaign offices and the destruction of campaign materials across Edo North, Central and South senatorial districts.

He maintained that holding public office should not be used as a means of suppressing political opponents, insisting that every citizen has the right to participate freely in the state’s political process.

According to him, no political party should exercise exclusive control over public institutions, public spaces or the political future of Edo State.

Among the incidents the NDC wants security agencies to investigate are the alleged unlawful arrest and detention of its members, the destruction of its billboards, posters and banners, and reported attempts to prevent traditional rulers, youth organizations and market associations from engaging with opposition parties.

The party also cited an incident involving a shared billboard, where the NDC’s portion was allegedly defaced while the section bearing the APC’s message remained untouched.

Another concern raised by the party was the reported denial of access to public facilities for lawful political gatherings.

The NDC further called for an investigation into an alleged shooting incident involving members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a gathering in Igueben. According to the account presented at the briefing, some individuals were seriously injured.

Yakubu said that although the reported incidents differed in nature, they raised serious concerns about whether citizens could freely exercise their political rights without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

He stressed that the party would not abandon its constitutional rights to freedom of association, expression and peaceful assembly because of the alleged threats.

NDC Seeks Probe of Alleged AK-47 Remark

The party also called on the relevant authorities to investigate a statement attributed to the Edo APC chairman, Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, concerning the alleged use of AK-47 rifles against opposition members said to be obstructing the APC during the 2027 elections.

Yakubu urged the authorities to establish the exact words used, the circumstances surrounding the statement and whether it constituted an offence.

He warned that any substantiated threat involving armed violence should be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

The NDC representative maintained that electoral competition should be based on public support and the strength of political ideas, rather than threats or the use of weapons against opponents.

The party consequently appealed to the police and other security agencies to remain impartial and carry out their constitutional responsibilities without favouring any political organization.

It also urged Governor Monday Okpebholo to publicly reaffirm the right of all political parties to organize and conduct their activities peacefully within Edo State.

Yakubu added that allegations involving public officials should be subjected to proper investigation rather than ignored.

He urged party members to remain peaceful and disciplined, document any incidents of intimidation and report threats to the appropriate authorities, assuring them that the NDC would explore lawful means of seeking justice and protecting its members.

Osifo Accuses Okpebholo’s Government of Political Intolerance

Also speaking at the briefing, the South-South spokesman of the party’s campaign organization, Prof. Isaiah Osifo, accused the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo of failing to create an atmosphere conducive to peaceful opposition activities.

Osifo argued that the conduct of a government towards political opponents was an important measure of its commitment to democratic principles.

He recalled that Okpebholo had contested for the Senate representing Edo Central when a different political party controlled the state, claiming that his campaign was not subjected to attacks on supporters, campaign materials or offices.

Osifo said the contrast between that period and the current political climate raised questions about the commitment of the present administration to protecting the rights of opposition parties.

He argued that a politician who had previously benefited from a peaceful campaign environment should ensure that others enjoyed the same freedom after assuming public office.

According to him, the alleged difficulties now facing opposition parties reflected negatively on the state government’s commitment to political tolerance.

Osifo Calls on Oshiomhole to Speak Out

The campaign organization’s spokesman also referenced the period when former Edo State governor and current Senator Adams Oshiomhole contested for the governorship as an opposition candidate.

Osifo claimed that Oshiomhole was able to campaign freely at the time, recalling that he moved around Benin City with groups of motorcycle riders without facing attacks on his campaign materials or office.

He called on the senator to publicly condemn any acts of political violence and intimidation in the state.

Osifo argued that, given Oshiomhole’s experience as a former opposition candidate, former national chairman of the APC and current senator, he had a responsibility to speak out in defence of democratic participation.

He further maintained that remaining silent in the face of the allegations could raise questions about the senator’s commitment to political freedom and his moral standing as a public figure.

But the APC dismissed the allegations as frivolous and baseless, insisting that its members were peace-loving.

The party’s Edo State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae, said Governor Monday Okpebholo and APC leaders were focused on winning over more supporters through their statewide tour and the administration’s development projects.

“The governor has turned Edo to a construction site and Edo people are happy. Edo APC members are not violent in nature. I advise NDC to look inward and put its house in order,” Uwadiae said.

The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that Nigerians are beginning to experience their benefits despite the challenges associated with implementing them.

Tenebe, who spoke during an interview on TVC News, expressed confidence in the President’s leadership, arguing that his administration was making progress in critical sectors, including the economy, security, agriculture, infrastructure and empowerment.

According to him, the massive crowd that attended the APC presidential campaign rally in Kaduna State was evidence of growing public support for Tinubu and his administration.

“The crowd was actually massive, and I think the opposition parties were taken by storm. What you are seeing here is organic. It was not something that paid the crowd,” he said.

He attributed the turnout to Nigerians’ appreciation of the President’s policies and leadership, adding that the sight of supporters displaying their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the rally demonstrated their readiness to participate in the electoral process.

Tenebe maintained that the President had performed well enough to earn another term, expressing confidence in his party’s electoral prospects.

Tinubu’s Reforms Taking Effect

Addressing concerns about the impact of the President’s economic reforms, the Edo APC chairman argued that the measures required time to produce their full benefits, particularly given the economic challenges inherited by the administration.

He said the reforms were already yielding results, citing what he described as improvements in economic activities and the experiences of traders and other business operators.

“When you want to do reforms, it is not easy, especially when you have an economy that is crumbled before he got there. So reforms take time to manifest,” Tenebe said.

He added that the administration’s economic policies were beginning to reposition the country, arguing that the experiences of ordinary Nigerians and business owners should be considered when assessing the reforms.

Tenebe also criticised the proposal to restore fuel subsidy, which he attributed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, questioning how the government would finance such a move while sustaining the economy.

“For somebody to come and say, after the President has worked, he's working on reform and he has removed subsidy, and we are seeing the gains that we have had since he came in there, and somebody just come and say he wants to take 360 degrees. It doesn't work, and it sounds desperate,” he said.

He argued that reversing the subsidy policy could create uncertainty for local and international businesses, maintaining that the country should continue along the economic path established by the Tinubu administration.

Security, Agriculture, Infrastructure Key to Election

The APC chairman identified security, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and economic empowerment as some of the major issues expected to shape the election.

He argued that the Tinubu administration had made progress in these areas, particularly in its efforts to address insecurity and restore confidence among farmers.

According to him, reports of farmers returning to their farmlands indicate that efforts to improve security are beginning to yield results.

“When you talk of security, you can see farmers are saying they are going back to the farm. It showed that, yes, security is being tackled,” he said.

Tenebe also urged Nigerians to assess presidential candidates based on their records in public office rather than campaign rhetoric.

He pointed to Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State, arguing that the development of the state reflected his experience in governance.

He also challenged Nigerians to examine the records of other presidential contenders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, in determining their suitability for the presidency.

According to him, the issues that matter most to voters are areas in which he believes Tinubu has demonstrated the capacity to deliver.

APC Advocates Issue-Based Campaigns

Tenebe said the APC had been mobilising its support base across Edo State ahead of the election, adding that the party was advocating campaigns focused on policies and development rather than personal attacks.

He said the party had recently concluded a tour of the state as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and communicate its message to voters.

“We've been doing a tour around the entire state, which we just completed to wire up our base. We were preaching that we want campaigns of issue. We don't want campaigns of insults,” he said.

He urged political parties and their candidates to concentrate on explaining their plans for addressing Nigeria’s challenges instead of engaging in verbal attacks against opponents.

“What you think you can do for the country, what you think you can do better than this President right now,” he said, outlining the kind of debate he believed should dominate the campaign.

The Edo APC chairman reiterated his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, maintaining that the President’s experience, economic policies and record in public office made him a strong contender among the presidential candidates.

He called on voters to evaluate the candidates based on their antecedents and proposed solutions to the country’s challenges.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State chapter has endorsed Governor Monday Okpebholo for a second term, citing the development projects his administration has executed across the state.

The State Chairman of the party, Mr Jarrett Tenebe, announced the decision on Friday at the grand finale of the APC grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, held in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area.

Tenebe said the State Working Committee (SWC) reviewed the governor's performance and was satisfied with the projects it saw in the three senatorial districts.

According to him, the party toured Edo South and Edo North before rounding off in Edo Central.

"We have been going around the three senatorial districts, starting from Edo South, Edo North, and now rounding off in Edo Central to see the development taking place.

"Considering the development going on and the massive support the governor enjoys, I do not think we can afford to wait before taking this decision," he said.

He then asked members of the committee present to endorse the governor, which they did. Tenebe said the decision reflected the party's confidence in Okpebholo's leadership.

The chairman also restated the party's commitment to rallying support for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and said he was confident Edo would deliver 2.5 million votes for the president.

Responding, Okpebholo thanked Tenebe and the committee members for the endorsement and for their support of his administration. He said he valued the party's solidarity but urged members to keep working together and stay focused on the party's objectives. He also expressed confidence in President Tinubu's leadership.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the APC in Edo, Mr Sylvester Aigboboh, listed projects the governor had carried out in one year and 11 months in office. These include road construction, recruitment of teachers and the upgrading of health facilities.

The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Jarrett Tenebe, has condemned former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his controversial declaration that Edo people who vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election would be “mad.”

This was disclosed in a statement personally signed by the state chairman, Jarret Tenebe and made available to newsmen in Benin, the state capital

According to Tenebe, "it as a sign of mental derangement for a politician to visit a community and openly insult its people simply because of their political interests or support for a party of their choice."

Amaechi made the controversial remarks on Thursday, October 8, 2026, during an ADC town hall meeting in Benin City, where he urged Edo voters to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The former Minister of Transportation declared that only a “madman” would vote for Tinubu, adding that Edo people who voted for the President would equally be considered mad. He also alleged that only thieves would campaign for the President.

Reacting to the development, Tenebe said "Amaechi’s comments were not only disrespectful to the people of Edo State but also capable of escalating inter-party confrontation if left unchecked."

The Edo APC chairman called on security agencies to caution the former Rivers State governor against making further inflammatory statements about the Edo electorate, warning that political leaders must exercise restraint in their public utterances, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election gather momentum.

According to Tenebe, visiting Edo State to canvass support for a political party should not become an excuse to insult the people whose votes a politician seeks.

He maintained that democracy thrives on the freedom of citizens to support candidates and political parties of their choice, stressing that disagreements over political preferences should be addressed through persuasion, policy debates and constructive engagement rather than insults.

Tenebe further argued that Amaechi’s outburst had exposed what he described as the former governor’s inability to accommodate divergent opinions, questioning whether someone who could not tolerate opposing political views possessed the temperament required for the high office he was seeking.

He said the office Amaechi was aspiring to was far greater than what he described as the politician’s limited capacity to accommodate differences of opinion.

The APC chairman urged Edo voters to reject the ADC and its candidates in the forthcoming elections, describing the party’s presence in the state as insignificant.

The controversy has added a fresh dimension to the emerging political contest in Edo State, where the APC is mobilising support for President Tinubu’s re-election while opposition parties seek to expand their influence ahead of the 2027 general election.

Nigerian lawyer and human right activist, Femi Falana (SAN), on Wednesday highlighted Edo State's pivotal role in producing legendary freedom fighters like Chief Anthony Enahoro and Mike Imoudu in her efforts to attaining independence.

Speaking at the 2026 ITV and Radio Pre-Independence Lecture, titled: "The Nigerian Dream: Still Valid or Dead On Arrival," with the theme: “From Ballot to Better Life, What Should 2027 Actually Deliver,” Falana reminded the audience that Nigeria's freedom was hard-won, noting that Edo State stands out historically for its pivotal role in the anti-colonial struggle before questioning the current viability of the Nigerian dream.

Falana said, "The independence of Nigeria’s struggle was not won on a platter of gold. Today, I am going to channel such meaningful knowledge of the struggle to our people. And no other city in Nigeria, from my study, can boast of having produced freedom fighters as much as Edo State that led to our demand for independence before 1960.

“What is the Nigerian dream? For some people, it is the hope of owning a house. For others, it is the opportunity to secure good education, obtain gainful employment, establish a successful business, raise a family in safety and dignity, or simply live a life in which hard work is rewarded with a reasonable standard of living.

“For the young Nigerian, it may be the hope of building a successful career without having to leave the country in search of opportunity. For the farmer, it may mean having access to land, infrastructure, markets, and security so that you can go to your farm without kidnappers harassing you in the land.

“For the entrepreneur, it may mean operating a business without having to navigate unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles. On film, the success of a business depends more upon political connections rather than enterprise. The Nigerian dream is the belief that Nigeria can become a country in which citizenship is not a disadvantage as it is now.

“It is the belief that a young Nigerian can wake up in the morning and believe that peace or a future is not predetermined by corruption, insecurity, poverty, unemployment, discrimination, or political connections. It is ultimately a dream of dignity, opportunity, justice, and accountable government. And that dream is not an unreasonable one.”

Falana (SAN) urged Nigerians to ask questions as those in government have no right to keep or hold on to information. "You must have the right to ask questions, and if anyone does not allow you to ask questions, let us know,”.

In his remarks, Managing Director of Independent Television (ITV) and Radio, Engr. Elvis Obaseki urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to reviving the Nigerian Dream.

The Edo State Chapter of RELAX, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, has announced plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

The Coordinator of the group in Edo State, Hon. Idiake Patrick, said RELAX would take the message of the Tinubu administration’s policies and programmes directly to Nigerians, particularly at the grassroots, where he believes the government’s achievements are not receiving sufficient publicity.

Patrick highlighted infrastructure development, student financing, tax reforms and the distribution of increased revenues to states and local governments among the areas he said Nigerians should be made more aware of.

He also commended the administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidy and redirect resulting revenues to the different tiers of government.

According to him, the group would complement the activities of other pro-Tinubu support groups, including City Boy Movement and Renew Hope, while mobilising what he described as genuine grassroots support for the President.

Also speaking, the Edo State Women coordinator of the group, Marie Olabisi Idaomi, said women, farmers and other grassroots stakeholders would form a major part of RELAX’s mobilisation efforts.

Idaomi pointed to the student loan programme as one of the initiatives she said could resonate with Nigerian families, arguing that mothers would be motivated to support the President because of opportunities created for their children.

She also highlighted the participation of farmers in the group, saying farmers were among those who could benefit from policies of the administration.

Idaomi further drew attention to local government autonomy, describing it as an opportunity for citizens to hold local government chairmen and councillors accountable for development.

She said RELAX was established with the aim of taking its message to communities across the 774 local government areas of Nigeria.

She also praised the administration’s economic and financial reforms, arguing that President Tinubu’s background in accounting, finance and revenue administration had influenced his approach to managing the country’s finances.

The Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Edo State, Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, has fulfilled his N20 million pledge to the family of late Lance Corporal Fahad Sani of the 195 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Agenebode.

The pledge was made following the death of the soldier on July 2, 2026, after a fatal road accident along the Okpella Highway while returning from a successful rescue operation.

Late Lance Corporal Fahad Sani and his colleagues had reportedly responded to a distress call involving kidnapped victims in the bushes of Okpella. The operation successfully rescued the victims, but tragedy struck on their return when a speeding trailer hit the vehicle conveying the soldiers.

Despite efforts by his colleagues to revive him and obtain medical attention at Halimotu Private Hospital and subsequently in Auchi, the soldier died from injuries sustained in the accident.

During a condolence visit to the bereaved family shortly after the incident, Ekpeson, who was then Acting Chairman of Etsako East LGA, pledged N20 million to support the deceased soldier's wife and two young children.

The Chairman redeemed the pledge in full on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at a presentation ceremony attended by the family and uniformed personnel of the 195 Battalion, led by its Commanding Officer, Major S.D. Balafama.

Balafama commended Ekpeson for fulfilling his promise and described the gesture as a significant source of encouragement to the family and the battalion.

He said the support demonstrated that the sacrifice of the late soldier and other personnel serving the nation was recognised, adding that the gesture would help boost the morale of officers and soldiers engaged in the field.

The Commanding Officer also expressed appreciation to Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his continued support for security agencies and the families of fallen personnel.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ekpeson said true honour for fallen heroes must go beyond words, stressing that officers who risk their lives to protect citizens should not be forgotten after their death.

He explained that the N20 million package had been structured to provide long-term support for the family. According to him, part of the money would enable the late soldier's wife to establish a sustainable business, while N10 million would be placed in a fixed deposit account to support the education and future needs of the couple's two children.

The gesture, he said, was intended to ensure that the sacrifice made by the late soldier in the service of the nation would continue to have a positive impact on his family.

The bereaved family expressed gratitude to Ekpeson and the Etsako East Local Government Council for standing by them during their period of grief and for fulfilling the promise made after the soldier's death.

The Edo State Government has distributed school items including bags, books, shoes and other learning materials to pupils across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

The items were provided through the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), as part of efforts to improve access and quality in public primary schools.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome, thanked the Governor for his commitment to education. He assured that the state government remains focused on raising the standard of public schools across the state.

In addition to school materials, the state government also distributed motorbikes to monitoring officers. The bikes are expected to help them carry out effective supervision of public schools in the state.

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yekini Idaiye Oisayemoje represented by his Deputy, Hon. Osamwonyi Evbaguehita Atu also commended the initiative. He reiterated the Assembly’s support for government policies aimed at improving the welfare and learning conditions of students in the state.

The distribution is seen as part of the state government’s wider plan to make public schools more functional, accessible, and attractive to parents and pupils.

The Executive Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Edo State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, has dismissed as false a viral report alleging that he swore in councillors at a hotel in Benin City, describing the claim as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

Ekpeson, while reacting to the video circulated by an online platform, said the footage had been taken out of context and distorted to create a false narrative about the inauguration of the newly elected councillors and other council officials.

He stated that he was in Benin City in the discharge of his responsibilities as Edo State ALGON Chairman when he invited the newly inaugurated councillors to meet with him for an address.

“I simply called my councillors to address them,” he explained.

The chairman noted that unlike some of his colleagues who had returned to their respective local government secretariats to commence official duties, his responsibilities as ALGON chairman required him to remain in Benin for engagements at the state and national levels.

Ekpeson explained that the existence of a Vice Chairman within the local government administration provides for the delegation of responsibilities when the chairman is unavailable.

“I am in Benin to perform my duty as ALGON Chairman, and I believe that is why we have Vice Chairmen at the local government. Where you cannot perform, you delegate power,” he said.

He disclosed that he consequently delegated the Vice Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council, Comrade Charles Aloaye Dagana, to swear in the Secretary to the Local Government Council and the 10 elected ward councillors.

Ekpeson said the swearing-in was duly conducted, adding that photographic and video evidence of the exercise was available for verification.

He therefore challenged those behind the viral report to verify their facts before publishing, accusing some online content creators of deliberately circulating unverified information in pursuit of traffic and engagement.

“Whatever fake peddlers are pushing out is just a way for their survival because if they don't push those things, they won't have traffic,” he added.

The council chairman said he would not allow what he described as distractions to take his attention away from the mandate given to him by Etsako East people.

“My focus is how to give Etsako East people who entrusted me with their mandate to feel the dividend of democracy,” Ekpeson declared.

He said his administration was concentrating on tangible interventions capable of improving the lives of residents, particularly in the areas of security, education and road infrastructure.

Ekpeson highlighted the reconstruction and renovation of schools as well as educational support programmes among the initiatives being pursued by his administration.

He specifically recalled his intervention to assist indigent students with WAEC and JAMB forms, noting that the initiative was designed to ensure that children from financially disadvantaged homes were not denied educational opportunities because their parents could not afford the required fees.

On infrastructure, the chairman said his administration had intensified the grading of roads across the local government.

He disclosed that 64 roads had been graded in Okpella, while 21 roads in Okpekpe were currently receiving attention, with heavy-duty construction equipment already deployed to the area.

“You can go there and see for yourself for verification,” he said, urging residents and members of the public to inspect the projects rather than rely solely on claims circulating on social media.

The Etsako East chairman also appealed to online publishers and content creators to exercise responsibility in the use of their platforms, particularly when reporting matters concerning public officials and government activities.

He warned against deliberately misleading the public merely to generate clicks, engagement and online traffic.

“If online peddlers think posting my name would put food on their table without verification, they should carry on,” Ekpeson said.

Despite the controversy, the chairman maintained that he remained focused on governance and delivering on his promises to the people.

“At least, my name has helped a life. Glory be to God,” he added.

Ekpeson's response comes as his administration enters a fresh tenure with renewed expectations from residents of Etsako East, following the projects and interventions recorded during his first tenure and the acting period.

The chairman's position is that the measure of his administration should ultimately be the impact of its programmes on the people, rather than social media controversies or unverified reports.

The National Democratic Congress, NDC, Edo State chapter, on Wednesday unveiled its candidates for the forthcoming general elections in the state.


The event was held at a private event centre along Airport Road, Benin City, where the party also introduced its Campaign Working Committee Caucus and charged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.


The candidates will contest the senatorial and Federal House of Representatives seats across the state.


Unveiling the candidates and campaign committee members, the Edo State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. David Olukoga, urged them to take the party’s message to the grassroots, engage voters and work towards securing victory for the party at the polls.


Olukoga described the caucus members as the “think tank” for the party’s victory, while appealing to aggrieved members to shun violence, seek legal redress where necessary and embrace unity in the overall interest of the party.


“The primaries have come and gone. Some of us are still aggrieved. Please swallow the bitter pills and let us move on to ensure the party wins the coming elections,” Olukoga pleaded.


Other party leaders, including the State Secretary, Hon. Peter Ajigbe, State Women Leader, Mrs Helen Osegbe, and Hon. Susan Osagiede, Edo South, also appealed for calm and urged members to galvanise voters in their respective units across the state.


Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of the NDC in Edo Central Senatorial District, Peter Ojemen, urged members to close ranks and work together as one family to ensure the party's success in the coming elections.


According to Olukoga, the party's senatorial candidates, whose names he said had been successfully uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, server, are Comrade (Mrs) Osayuki Epelle Asemota for Edo South, Hon. John Yakubu for Edo Central and Madam Maria Osemojie for Edo North.


The party's House of Representatives candidates are Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho for (Oredo), Osaro Omoruyi, (Egor/Ikpoba-Okha), Michael Ernest, (Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode), Charity Aiguobahueghian, (Ovia), Hon. Charles Agbonehi, (Esan West/Esan Central/Igueben), Rasak Obaro, (Akoko-Edo), Power Mohammed, (Etsako), and Frank Aigbedion, (Owan).


Hon. Olukoga, however, said the party's candidate for (Esan North/Esan South) was still pending due to documentation issues with INEC.


“There are issues with some of their documents. So yesterday night, they were not able to conclude on it, but I am sure we might get them today or tomorrow.


“As soon as we have that, we will publish it and give it to the press. But for now, these are our House of Representatives candidates. Congratulations!” the chairman said.


Addressing journalists shortly after the event, the Edo South and Edo Central senatorial candidates, Comrade (Mrs) Osayuki Epelle Asemota and Hon. John Yakubu, respectively, expressed appreciation to the party's leaders and supporters.


Hon. John Yakubu said the NDC was on a mission to rescue Nigerians from what he described as the hardship inflicted by the present administration, urging journalists and other Nigerians to participate in the political process.


“Take note of that, we are on a rescue mission to rescue Nigerians from the excruciating pain inflicted by this present administration.


“To that extent, I want even you behind the camera to be part of this journey of rescuing our people. I tell you this, take it home, because if you are not involved, the policy of government, whether you are involved directly or not, you will be affected by the policy of government,” Yakubu said.

The Edo State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has suspended its State Executive Chairman, Comrade Moses Joseph Agwinede, following a suspension letter reportedly issued by the National President and Commandant-in-Chief, General Cosmos Iwu, JP, through his legal representatives, C. O. Olaye & Associates.

According to the suspension letter, the National President cited several reasons for the action, including allegations that Comrade Agwinede failed to effectively represent the organization, did not fulfil commitments made upon his appointment as State Commandant, and engaged in conduct that allegedly created conflicts with leaders and members of the Council since assuming office as the NYCN Edo State Chairman.

The Council further noted that, in accordance with the constitutional provisions of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the organization operates through Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) and Faith based Organizations rather than individual interests.

Consequently, and pending further directives from the Management and Resolutions from his organization, the Deputy State Chairman, Comrade Johnson Matthew Ogbogho, has assumed responsibility as the Acting Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Edo State Chapter, to ensure the continued administration and smooth operation of the Council's activities within the state.

The Edo State Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Constitution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, promoting unity among youth organizations, and ensuring responsible leadership in the interest of young people across the state.

The leadership of Christ Chosen Church of God International has spoken for the first time on the retirement of its former Director of Administration, Apostle Pius Igberase, and the viral social media publications surrounding it.

In a statement released today in Benin City, and signed by Secretary General Apostle Jones Ikibeh and Church PRO, Apostle Newton Egharevba, the Church said the decision followed an internal disciplinary process.

According to the Church, concerns were raised after the Spiritual Leader returned from a 3-month working visit on 18th May 2026.

Apostle Igberase was alleged to have usurped the Spiritual Leader’s authority, used inciting words against leadership, worn an unapproved cassock during the 2026 Baptism Service, and engaged in disorderly conduct during the Women’s Convention.

Other allegations include promoting tribalism and failing to provide household leadership according to church standards.

On 10th June, he was queried, and on 12th June, a 21-member Special Disciplinary Panel chaired by Apostle E. Akugue sat on the matter.

The panel found the explanations unsatisfactory and recommended dismissal in line with the church's constitution and handbook.

However, the Church says the Spiritual Leader, in his discretion, approved retirement instead, with full severance benefits — a move described as an act of restraint.

The Church also debunked claims circulating online that panel members were paid 1 million naira each to influence the outcome. It described the videos and documents in circulation as edited and misleading.

The Church further raised concerns over threats by some supporters to lock church branches and cause unrest, saying it will invoke the law to protect its properties.

Christ Chosen Church is urging members and the public to rely only on official church channels and to avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing division.

The statement reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to due process, unity, and its mission of spreading the Gospel.

In fact, it is on record that this Evbukhu Community road project is the first of its kind in the area since the creation of Edo State, as these are virgin roads built from the scratch, with solid concrete reinforcements, thick rods, granite, drainages, excavation, laterite refilling and overall quality construction work. A university don, prolific writer and the author of Ematon, Dr. Francis Ilenloa Igberaese, has appealed to Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to consider the automatic job placements of fresh Ph.D holders to replace retired or contract Professors still serving in universities and tertiary institutions in the state, saying the policy would strengthen the education sector and create opportunities for young scholars.

Dr. Igberaese, a Senior Lecturer in Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, and Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Society in the state made the appeal during the public presentation of his new book titled “EMATON” in Benin City, the state capital.

He explained that the funds required to employ these fresh Ph.D graduates already exist within the university and tertiary institutions education system since the Edo State Government has continued to fund its tertiary institutions.

“I passionately appeal to the executive governor of Edo State Senator Monday Okpebholo to give automatic job offer to all Ph.D holders in Edo State.

“They are not even many, the money to do that is already there, funds are being misplaced. For example why would a Professor who have spent 70 years and retired be earning from the system and retained, while those who hold fresh Ph.D are outside without jobs.

“The money to pay one of these Professors can pay three fresh Ph.Ds, and by the way, these Professors do not come to work", with special apology to some of them. And the new brains are energetic and they work. Please let us absolve them”, he appealed.

Dr. Igberaese also urged the government to revive Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), Benin City, closed by the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki, describing them as part of the legacies of late former governor, Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia. He regretted that unfortunately, Gov. Obaseki who closed down the Institute was a beneficiary of it and question his excuse of non-viability as if it was ever a profit making organization.

Reviewing the book “EMATON”, Professor Henry Imhonde described the 25-chapter work as a must-read, especially for those interested in leadership and governance, noting that it explores how personal interests can destroy political structures.

He explained that “EMATON” means one who strikes hard, one who cannot be bent, and one who remains solid like iron.

Prof. Imhonde said the book serves as a metaphor for political resistance and highlights the cost of governance driven by intimidation, ethnicity, and fear rather than service to the people.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, commended the author for his courage and resilience in documenting what he described as “atrocities” of the immediate past administration in Edo State despite alleged threats and harassment.

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it will not give party tickets to candidates with a history of repeated electoral defeats. Who he called "serial loser."

Speaking during a live interview on TVC News, the state chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, emphasized that the party intends to prioritize aspirants who have previously won elections.

Defending Governor Monday Okpebholo’s pledge to deliver 3.5 million votes to President Bola Tinubu, Tenebe explained that one way to achieve this goal is by carefully selecting credible and successful candidates.

He noted that the APC’s growing popularity in the state gives the party confidence in reaching its target. However, he warned that poor candidate selection could undermine those efforts.

According to him, the party is determined to avoid fielding individuals who have consistently lost elections.

Tenebe argued that candidates with a track record of repeated losses are likely to continue that pattern, making them a risky choice for the party. As a result, the APC leadership in Edo State is taking extra caution in deciding who receives its tickets.

He added that, so far, only President Tinubu and Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole have been endorsed. Tenebe described Oshiomhole as a strong political figure in Edo North, noting that his electoral success makes him a reliable candidate capable of delivering votes.

With what he described as a growing alignment of other political groups with the APC in the state, Tenebe reiterated his confidence that achieving 3.5 million votes is both realistic and necessary.

According to him, "The entire state have collapsed into the APC and we are very convinced that we are going to get the 3.5m votes.

"The only snag we can have is the king of people we field in other elections, that's why we are very careful.

"We cannot field any serial losers on any of the elections within the state. That is the reason why I feel we are very careful in the kind of people we are going to field," the APC Chairman said.

"Because if you field someone who has been loosing elections, maybe for senator or somebody who has been loosing, the person will still continue to lose.

"So we are going to be very careful with the people we field. That's the reason why, in Edo State as I speak, the only people that have been endorsed is the president and Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. Because Oshiomhole is somebody who wins election.

"Oshiomhole is a brand within Edo North Senatorial District. So when you field him, you know the number of votes you are going to get.

"Seeing the collapse of other political party into APC in the state, we are very convinced that 3.5m votes is a task that must be done." Edo APC Chairman, Tenebe stressed.

Every pregnancy should end with a mother alive, safe, and able to hold her newborn child. In Nigeria, that is still not the reality for far too many women.

As the country marks National Safe Motherhood Day, we must confront a painful truth: preventable maternal death remains one of Nigeria’s most urgent public health and social justice failures. For too many families, childbirth ends not in joy, but in grief.

A mother is lost, a child is left vulnerable, and a family is permanently changed. Most of these deaths are preventable.

One of the leading causes is postpartum haemorrhage, severe bleeding after childbirth. It is fast, dangerous, and unforgiving when not recognised and treated early.

Yet it is also highly manageable when the right systems, tools, and skilled care are in place. The tragedy is not that we do not know what to do.

The tragedy is that proven solutions are still not being applied consistently where they are needed most.

In many Nigerian health facilities, blood loss during childbirth is still estimated visually rather than measured objectively. That delay in recognition can lead to a delay in treatment, and in maternal care, delay can be fatal.

This is why practical, evidence-based interventions must move from policy documents into routine care.

One of the most important is the WHO-backed E-MOTIVE protocol, which combines calibrated blood collection drapes for accurate blood loss measurement with a bundle of rapid-response treatments
once postpartum haemorrhage is identified.

It is a simple but powerful model that can improve early detection, speed up response, and save lives.

Yet despite the Federal Ministry of Health’s updated guidelines on postpartum haemorrhage
management and the adoption of E-MOTIVE, implementation remains far-fetched Health

Many government facilities, and indeed most private health facilities, have not integrated these guidelines into everyday practice. This gap between policy and implementation is costing lives. Still, protocols alone will not solve the crisis.

Nigeria’s maternal mortality burden is sustained by deeper systemic weaknesses: shortages of skilled birth attendants, under-equipped facilities, weak referral systems, inadequate emergency obstetric care, and the financial barriers that prevent women from accessing timely care.

If Nigeria is serious about reversing this trend, maternal health must be treated as a national priority.

Frontline health workers must be trained and equipped. Health facilities must have the commodities and referral capacity required to manage obstetric emergencies.

Maternal mortality surveillance and response systems must be strengthened so that every death is counted, reviewed, and used to prevent the next one.

Maternal health must remain a clear and consistent national priority at federal, state, and local government levels.

No woman should die while giving life. The knowledge exists. The tools exist. The solutions exist. What Nigeria needs now is the political will, financing, and implementation discipline to bring those solutions to scale.

Safe motherhood is not a privilege. It is a right, and Nigeria cannot continue to lose its mothers.

“I write to you, Mr President, with a deep sense of urgency and responsibility regarding the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, particularly the recent tragic killings in Jos and other parts of the country where innocent citizens continue to lose their lives to unknown armed groups.

“These repeated incidents are not just statistics; they represent families destroyed, communities destabilised, and a growing loss of confidence in the ability of the state to protect its citizens.

“Mr. President, the primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property. While efforts have been made by security agencies, the persistence and spread of these attacks clearly indicate that our current security architecture requires urgent strengthening, innovation, and strategic reform. Nigeria’s security challenges have evolved, and so must our response”.

On his key recommendations for Immediate and Strategic Action, Okoukoni suggested the strengthening of Intelligence and Community-Based Security.

“There must be deeper collaboration between federal security agencies, state actors, traditional institutions, and local vigilante groups. Communities often have firsthand intelligence that, if properly harnessed, can prevent attacks before they occur.”

He also suggested the need for the deployment of Advanced Security Technology, which Nigeria must urgently invest in, including Surveillance cameras across high-risk zones.

“Drone technology for aerial monitoring of forests and rural areas, Data-driven intelligence systems for tracking criminal movement, Modern insecurity requires modern solutions, and technology must become a central pillar of national security strategy”.

He also suggested a decentralised and Rapid Response Security Framework, adding that the current centralised structure limits rapid response.

“Empowering state-level security coordination, with clear oversight, will improve response times and operational effectiveness in affected regions.

“Your Excellency, Sir, there is a need for a review of the legal framework on Citizen Self-Defence, while it is time to open a national conversation on controlled and regulated self-defence mechanisms.

“In areas where communities are repeatedly attacked, and security presence is limited, citizens are left vulnerable.

“Therefore, a carefully designed, strictly regulated framework for civilian self-defence, including licensed firearm ownership under stringent conditions, may serve as a deterrent against continuous attacks.

“This must not be approached recklessly, but rather through strict background checks, mandatory training and certification, Controlled distribution and monitoring systems.

“The goal is not to militarise society, but to ensure that law-abiding citizens are not left completely defenceless”.

On Security Sector Support and Welfare, he said, Security personnel must be better equipped, better trained, and better motivated.

“This includes: Improved welfare and insurance, Modern equipment and logistics, as well as Enhanced coordination across agencies.

“It is clear that security forces cannot do this alone without systemic support and reform”.

A Call for Urgent National Action, Mr. President, the continued loss of Nigerian lives is unacceptable. Every delay in decisive action deepens the crisis and erodes public trust. Nigeria must move from reactive responses to proactive, intelligence-led, and citizen-inclusive security strategies.

“The killings in Jos and other affected areas must mark a turning point, not another cycle of condemnation without lasting solutions.

“Mr President, your leadership at this critical time must reflect courage, innovation, and a willingness to take necessary decisions in the interest of national survival. Nigeria can overcome these challenges, but only through decisive leadership, strategic reform, and collective responsibility.

“I remain committed, as always, to advocating for policies and actions that prioritise the safety, dignity, and future of all Nigerians,” he declared.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State has elected chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the 18 local government area of the state in the July 11, 2026 Local Government Council Election in the state.

In his remarks, Hon Bello, the Kogi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs recommended the electorate for the peaceful, orderliness and maturity displayed during the exercise.

Bello, who said the primary election was rancour-free across the 192 wards and the 18 local governments, however, wished the candidates victory in the election.

In his address, the Edo State chairman of APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, advised the elected candidates that the tickets are a call to duty.

Tenebe said they must work assiduously to ensure that victory at the polls remains an option across the 18 local governments and the 192 wards.

On his part Jarret Tenebe, said the election of candidate for the election the party is strategically position to win the forthcoming local government election election.

The All Progressives Congress, (APC) Edo State chapter has inaugurated a 3-Man Committee to superintend its council election primary scheduled to hold Friday, 3 April, 2026.

The 3-Man Committee will superintend the primary in each of the 18 local Government Councils across the State.

The Party stated this in a press statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie and availed journalists in Benin on Thursday.

The State secretariat shall serve as the final collation centre for all the results across the State with an election primary committee on ground to so collate, the Party said.

"The All Progressives Congress, Edo state Chapter profoundly wishes to inform its members and the general public that the party's primary to elect the Local Government Chairmanship and councillorship candidates is scheduled today, the 3rd day of April, 2026.

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the newly elected wards executive committee of the party over the successful conduct of its ward congresses stating that it is a major boost to internal democracy, party unity and grassroots cohesion across the state.

Emperor Jarret Tenebe, state chairman of the party, on Wednesday stated this while briefing journalists at the party’s state secretariat in Benin City, following the conclusion of the congresses held on February 18, 2026, in all the 192 wards of the state.

Tenebe described the rancour-free exercise as a watershed in Edo’s political development, noting that the congresses were conducted strictly in line with the guidelines of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

According to him, the smooth process underscored the APC’s commitment to transparency, inclusivity and internal democracy, stressing that democratic values must first be entrenched within political parties to be credible in governance.

“The peaceful and seamless conduct of the ward congresses is clear evidence that our party in Edo State remains united, disciplined and forward-looking. There was no rancour, division or disharmony among members,” he said.

The APC chairman commended party faithful at the grassroots for their cooperation and maturity, describing the outcome of the congresses as a collective achievement that reflected the strength and organisation of the party across the state.

He congratulated the newly elected ward executives, reminding them that their emergence marked the beginning of greater responsibility rather than an end, and charged them to strengthen party structures at the grassroots.

He recalled the commitment of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, stressing that the target could only be achieved through coordinated grassroots mobilisation.

He therefore charged the newly elected ward executives to lead aggressive voter mobilisation campaigns, encourage eligible citizens to register and sensitise them on the importance of collecting and safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The Department of State Services (DSS) has formally taken over the investigation into the attack and abduction of Dr. Pedro Obaseki in Benin City on December 28, 2025, treating the incident as terrorism-related following petitions by his legal team.

In a state-of-the-case statement issued by his lead counsel, Femi Falana, SAN, the DSS headquarters in Abuja was said to have assumed conduct of the investigation “in recognition of the nature, gravity and implications of the acts complained of.”

“It is important to place on record that the DSS has now formally assumed conduct of the investigation into this matter,” Falana said, describing the decision to classify the case as terrorism-related as “commendable.”

According to the statement, the petitions allege terrorism-related conduct, conspiracy, assault, unlawful detention and obstruction of justice arising from the events of December 28. Falana said Dr. Obaseki “welcomes this development and has continued to cooperate fully with lawful investigative processes.”

He disclosed that Dr. Obaseki has had engagements with the DSS in Benin City under the authority of the State Director, adding that “any concerns arising from those interactions, including issues of conduct, handling and procedural integrity, have been formally documented and are now part of the consolidated representations before the appropriate authorities.”

The legal team has also instituted civil proceedings before Nigerian courts, which Falana said are “intended to complement, not prejudice, ongoing investigations by security agencies,” while seeking judicial remedies and institutional accountability.

Beyond Nigeria, petitions have been submitted to international and regional bodies, including the ECOWAS Court of Justice, the European Union human-rights mechanisms and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture and arbitrary detention.

Falana said the steps were taken “to ensure transparency, preservation of evidence and adherence to Nigeria’s international obligations.”

The statement further noted that social media and digital platforms have been placed on notice over the circulation of footage linked to Dr. Obaseki’s alleged dehumanization and abduction, in order to ensure “responsible platform conduct and cooperation with lawful accountability processes.”

Dr. Obaseki stressed that the actions taken were “solely in furtherance of justice, the rule of law and public accountability, and not for sensationalism or political motive,” calling on authorities and the public to support efforts to ensure that “all criminal perpetrators, collaborators and enablers are identified and held to account.”

The Obaseki Family in Edo State has strongly condemned the mob violence and public humiliation meted out to their son, Dr. Don Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki, describing the incident as barbaric, unlawful and a grave threat to public peace and the rule of law.

The incident reportedly occurred in broad daylight on Sunday, December 28, 2025, and involved suspected individuals who, according to the family, were neither palace functionaries nor agents of the state.

Dr. Obaseki, a renowned journalist and media executive, was said to have been accosted on Sunday morning at the popular Uwa Primary School football field in Benin.

The former Managing Director of DAAR Communications was beaten, intimidated and forcefully taken away in what eyewitnesses described as a commando-style operation, a development that has sparked widespread outrage and strong public condemnation.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the assailants, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, brutalised the victim before marching him toward the palace of the Oba of Benin.

It was against this backdrop that the Obaseki Family issued a strongly worded statement, condemning the act as barbaric, shameful and a gross violation of fundamental human rights.

In a press statement jointly signed by the Okaegbe and Secretary of the Obaseki Family Worldwide, Pa. Daniel Igbinovia Obaseki and Mr. Ewere Obaseki, the family said it was deeply disturbed by the brazen manner in which the attackers allegedly took the law into their own hands.

Reading the statement at a press conference in Benin on Tuesday, Mr. Ewere Obaseki said the incident had far-reaching implications for societal order and the sanctity of lawful authority in Benin and beyond.

He explained that the family deliberately delayed reacting in order to properly digest the “bizarre” incident and await the response of constituted authorities.

However, he noted that the disturbing scenes circulating in the public domain compelled the family to speak out, warning that such acts were capable of damaging Benin’s long-held reputation as the Home of Culture, peace and discipline.

Describing the footage as savage and wholly antithetical to Benin values, the statement stressed that no person of good conscience could witness the humiliation of a son of the soil - an accomplished professional, cultural ambassador and member of a frontline noble family - without being profoundly shaken.

The Obaseki Council also clarified that its position was neither political nor partisan, emphasizing that the family has always accommodated diverse political views, provided they are expressed with civility, respect and strict adherence to the law.

It maintained that Dr. Don Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki has conducted himself honorably at all times and that there was absolutely no justification for the violence allegedly visited upon him.

While reaffirming its respect for the Palace of the Oba of Benin as a unifying institution and moral compass for all Benin people, the family warned that nothing should be done by non-palace functionaries to undermine the dignity and exalted position of the revered traditional institution.

In the interest of justice and societal balance, the Council called for a thorough, lawful and impartial investigation into the incident, urging that anyone found culpable be held accountable.

The Council expressed full support for Dr. Obaseki’s decision to seek legal redress, insisting that the rule of law must prevail over jungle justice.

Ologbo-nugu Community Appeals to Gov Okpebholo to Revoke Alleged "Illegitimate" CofO Obtained Through Thuggery, Violence

A group known as 'Ologbo-nugu Indigenes in the Diaspora', has called on the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo to revoke what they called "illegal" Certificate of Occupancy (CotO) given to a company in their community, in Ologbo-nugu in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, saying that, it has brought about untold hardship on them.

An indigene of the community, Eguaogie Erhahon, made the call in a statement titled; "Land Grabbing in Edo State — A Cry for Justice and the Return of Our Lands" signed and made available to Journalists in Benin, in the Smstate capital.

He alleged that their farm lands were given to the company by the past administration without consulting with the people of the community.

Mr. Erhahon alleged that the lands are being guarded by military personnel, creating a high sense of fear in the minds of the inhabitants of the community.

Erhahon chronicled the situation in a statement that reads thus, "Fellow Nigerians and members of the press, I write today with a heavy heart about a grave injustice unfolding in Edo State. An injustice that endangers the very future and survival of our people.

"Recently, I have monitored a disturbing and heartbreaking pattern of land grabbing and some abuse of power that took place under the watch of the former Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

"His administration is alleged to have fraudulently allocated vast farmlands belonging to our communities to private interests.

"These lands, which are the lifeblood of our farmers and the backbone of our people's sustenance, were stolen, unlawfully taken without our consent, without due process, and without regard for our customs and rights.

"Rather, what we witnessed was a pattern of intimidation, threats, and coercive methods used to forcefully push us off our land. The former governor allegedly employed soldiers not just as a show of power but as instruments of fear, engaging men of the Nigerian Army to harass and intimidate our farmers out of their ancestral lands.

"In many cases, these soldiers prevented our farmers from harvesting their crops or even confiscated what they had already gathered. Shockingly, these troops have remained stationed on the farms for over three years, creating a permanent military presence where there should be none.

"This raises serious questions about the role of the Nigerian Army, whether such operations are part of their official duties or a disturbing deviation from their primary responsibilities.

"How the Nigerian Army has assigned over 30 of its officers and men to a private farm, stationing them there continuously for over three years, is a stark testament to how far our country has fallen an unsettling manifestation of the joke that Nigeria has become.

"Our people, men, women, and children, were left helpless, stranded, and devastated. Communities were torn apart, divided among themselves, factions created just to facilitate the theft of what little we hold dear.

"Many believe and allege that the former governor was the mastermind behind these acts.

"There are strong suspicions that he may own or have a stake in the companies involved in perpetuating this injustice. This is not just a land dispute; it is a betrayal of trust, a violation of our dignity, and an assault on our very existence.

"The way these lands were taken is nothing short of being oppressive and brutal. Our communities, the rightful owners of these lands, were neither duly consulted nor were they adequately compensated.

"Instead, armed persons and thugs backed by the government used force to bulldoze our crops, destroying homes, and ripping apart the livelihoods of innocent people. Our people’s hard work, their ancestral farms lands, their dreams obliterated in the blink of an eye.

"Beyond that, they have not been given any buffer zones for community farming, further crushing their ability to survive and provide for their families.

"A particularly heart-wrenching example is my own ancestral home, Ologbo-N’ugu in the southern part of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

"Hundreds of acres of land have been stolen from my people, my own family. This is just a fraction of the thousands seized across the entire Local Government Area.

"These figures are not just numbers; they represent the hopes and dreams of families who have farmed this land for generations. Crops destroyed, dreams shattered, families displaced, and a tense, fearful atmosphere now hangs over our community. The faces of the children and the elderly haunted by the loss of their land and their future.

"Our community tried to fight back. On December 30th, 2024, we submitted a petition to the Attorney-General of Edo State, pouring out our pain, our desperation, and our plea for justice. We begged for intervention from His Excellency, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo. But to this day, and our land remains under siege.

"What pains me most and what makes my heart ache deeply is that while most of communities in Nigeria are battling farmers-herders clashes with Fulani herdsmen, my people are suffering this other terrible menace land theft on top of that. Our community is caught between two giants, both threatening to crush us, and it is heartbreaking to see our people’s hopes diminish day by day, their sufferings seem to be systematically ignored.

"We are scared and devastated. we fear that if justice is not served, our people will be plunged into perpetual hunger, poverty, and despair. We call on the government to please do what is right. Revoke the illegitimate Certificate of Occupancy obtained through thuggery and violence under the former Administration.

"Return the land to its rightful owners. Hold accountable those who have betrayed us, and most urgently, compensate the victims, those who have lost everything, their homes, their farm crops, their future.

"My people are not opposed to genuine, lawful investments. We welcome sincere partners who approach us with respect and fairness. But we cannot accept a government with guns invading our land, deciding our fate without our voice, and trampling on our dignity.

"This is a cry from the depths of my heart, a plea for justice, for compassion, for humanity. Our land, our heritage, our future depends on it. I beseech the authorities to act swiftly, to hear our pain, and to restore our dignity before it’s too late".

The people of Uhoro 3 Community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State has passionately appealed to Edo State governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo to come to their rescue over the deplorable condition of the access road leading to the community.

Pa Vincent Osakue, Odionwere of the community and Amb Osagie Omoregie, his Okaighele (Youth Head) made the appeal while speaking to journalists on the state of the access road to the community.

Pa Osakue, while lamenting the suffering being faced by the people as a result of the state of the road said they decided to make the appeal for the governor to be aware of their plight adding that the road serves no less than six communities in the locality and also serve as a link road from the by-pass Sapele road on the right and Sakponba road on the left hand side of Benin City.

He noted that the rehabilitation work on the road is usually carried out through self-help efforts every year by the people of the community, but for the rains this year the road is no go area for them hence the appeal because it has gone beyond the efforts of the community.

On his part, the Okaighele of the community, Amb Osagie Omoregie lamenting the situation he termed unfortunate and a nightmare to the people of Uhoro 3 Community in modern day Edo State. He appealed to the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo to come to their rescue in the construction of the road so as to alleviate the suffering been faced by the people in their daily activities.

He further added that apart from the deplorable condition of the access road into the community, there is no functional health centre for the people as they have to travel all the way to Stella Obasanjo Hospital or Central Hospital to assess healthcare facilities pointing out that the elders and people have earmarked part of their land for Health Care centre and school to reduce the suffering of the people of the community who do travel long distance.

On the allegations of land grabbing and other related vices in the community, the Okaighele denied the allegations outright that there is nothing like that happening in Uhoro 3 Community.

"We cannot do anything contrary to what our great reverend monarch, Omo N’Ob N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II CFR has instructed. It is against the tradition of the people, we follow the laid down laws and regulations as directed by the Palace through the Odionwere and elders of the community," he added.

Going further, Amb Omoregie said it is only the Odionwere and elders that directs any authorization concerning land in the community and urged members of the public to disregard the allegations and feel free to come over to the community to do business and contribute to the growth and development of Uhoro 3 Community.

The Okaighele also used the occasion to appeal to Uhoro 3 Community indigenes in the diaspora to help in the development of the community for the benefits of all.

The upcoming Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) Convention has sparked intense interest as two of the party's key figures, Jarret Tenebe and Lawrence Okah, emerge as leading contenders with vested interest on who emerge as chairman of the party.

Emperor Jarret Tenebe once ruled his kingdom with an iron fist, but his reign is remembered more for its downfall than its glory. Known for his arrogance and distrust, he isolated himself from his advisors and dismissed warnings about looming threats.

His obsession with expanding his empire led him to neglect the welfare of his people, causing widespread suffering and unrest. In one notorious incident, Tenebe ordered the destruction of a sacred forest to build a fortress, ignoring the pleas of his environmental stewards and religious leaders. Going by his history, Emperor Jarret Tenebe is been viewed in some quarters especially the Etsako area as can't be trusted with full leadership position, especially in a democratic environment like the All Progressives Congress, APC. But the question is, can Emperor Jarret Tenebe be able to pilot the affairs of the party as a state chairman, following his antecedents?

Tenebe has been indulge in using uncouth language, threatening words and undemocratic system. Moreover, he lacks the ability to organise the party and managing internal democracy within the party.

Tenebe's leadership in acting capacity as APC State Chairman has been characterised by so many dramatic turnaround which has the tendency to tear the party apart. It is dangerous to entrust a substantive leadership position to such man who lacks democratic ethos and principles. From his relationship with party leaders in the state, it is evident that he cannot steer the boat and should not be considered for such sensitive position for the state.

However Both Lawrence Okah and Emperor Jarret hold significant positions within the Edo State APC leadership - while Jarret currently serves as the Acting State Chairman, elevated from Deputy State Chairman, Lawrence Okah is the party Secretary, a role vital to the organizational strength of the APC in Edo State.

It is known fact that Jarret Tenebe assumed the Acting Chairmanship following internal party shifts and defections, specifically after the departure of the former Chairman Col. David Imusi who retired to become a governorship aspirant

Also The recent comment by the state chairman of APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe to give former council chairmen who were unceremoniously disengaged by the previous administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki the right of first refusal seems to have created disquiet amongst the ranks and files of both leaders and loyalists in the party as Lawrence Okah is already capitalising on such to Garner more support from the core APC members.

This statement alone, does not go down well with members which elicited vehement criticisms and backlash, calling on Tenebe to quickly renege on that stands for the unity and progress of the party-APC. If he stands a chance to continue as Edo APC chairman as his secretary Lawrence Okah is already cornering stakeholders in the party to enable him grab the number one seat of the party.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Okah’s role as Secretary, especially from Edo South has been viewed as successful as he has expressed optimism of clinching the Chairmanship seat of Edo APC since he claims to have the backing of the state governor and the experience even as local government Chairman

They both have vested interest on becoming the party Chairman in the forthcoming convention coming up in the state

However the LG primaries has a big role to play as it is likely to determine who become the Chairman of Edo APC as it will show out of the two who is more grounded in the party

It is pertinent for leaders in the party in Edo State to wade into the imminent fight that may ensue in the coming days to save the party from unpreventable collapse and becoming an object of losing elections in the state like its counterpart- the PDP.

However another school of thought are saying that what could also work against Jarret is his undemocratic utterances and way of addressing issues by using toxic languages that looks more of tyrannic nature which is a contrast to the cool and calm nature of Lawrence Okah.

However the stage is now set for the Incubent Edo State APC chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe and the secetary Lawrence Okah to test their political and popularity strength among APC stakeholders over the Chairmanship seat few weeks from now.

But weighing the two options of Okah and Tenebe by their antecedents, Lawrence Okah appears to be at the front because he has been able to pilot the affairs of the party for years as a state secretary without crisis and rancour but Tenebe's few time of leadership even in acting capacity has been fraught with incessant internal crisis and rancourous situations in the party.

A former Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant in Edo State, Hon. Ernest O. Abegbe has resigned his membership from the party.

Abegbe, who was one of the aspirants for the governorship position in the 2024 primary election, announced his resignation from the Labour Party in a statement personally signed dated 17th October, 2025, addressed to party leadership and his supporters.

According to him, the decision became urgently expedient considering the unending crisis rocking the party and responses from comprehensive consultation with his family, supporters, stakeholders and political associates across the 18 local governments of the state and beyond.

Hon. Abegbe who is a Financial Expert, Economist, Educationist and seasoned professional with a wide range of experience in both public and private sectors for decades declared that he is more resolute in his quest for better and greater Edo State and Nigeria at large.

He appreciated party leadership for the opportunities given to him to contribute and support the party mission and value.

Kelvin Ovbokhan Igbinovia, Ohen of Okhuoromi Community in Oredo local government of Edo State, on Saturday thanked Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, and His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom on proclamation and putting to rest the persistent crisis in the community.

Speaking to journalists in Benin, the Ohen of Okhuoromi, Kelvin Igbinovia while pledging his unalloyed loyalty to the Oba Ewuare II and Governor Monday Okpebholo noted that as spelt out by the Reverend Benin Monarch that the authority of the Okhuoromi Community is in the hand of the Odionwere, Pa Oghagbon Edosomwan, further appreciated the Monarch for the respect and privilege invested on him as the Ohen and promised to continue to promote the rich cultural heritage of the great Benin Kingdom through his position.

On the allegation levelled against him in a trending socio media platform accusing him over the destruction of the community shrine, Ohen Kelvin Ovbokhan Igbinovia noted that the last time he visited the Okhuoromi community after Oba’s proclamation was when delegates from the Benin palace went with him to formally installed him as the Ohen. According to him, “it was when arrived with the delegates from the Oba Palace that we discovered that the Oba Shrine at Okhuoromi had been destroyed by unknown persons.

Speaking in Benin dialect, Ohen said, “Since I was restored as the Ohen of Okhuoromi Community, I have never one day call the Odionwere on phone, neither did I reached out to the police to arrest anybody in the community - Not at all. Is like they are not happy that the Oba has restored me as the Ohen of the community? It is the Oba who appoint somebody to lead; Oba owed everything in Benin Kingdom. What Oba say is the final.

“Recall that I was told not to appear on socio media as regard to anything that relate to Okhuoromi Community, but the trending socio media video alleging that I, Ohen Kelvin Ovbokhan Igbinovia went and destroyed Oba Shrine at the Okhuoromi Community necessitated this video to debunk the allegation against me, that I have no hand in the destruction of Oba Shrine at Okhuoromi Community.

“I made bold to state here that I can never go against the decision of our reverend Monarch, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom over the leadership of Okhuoromi Community.

“Also the issue that I am threatening some members of the community is a big lie, I can never do no such things. Whoever said that I threatened him through phone call and the issue of who destroyed the shrine should come to the palace of the Oba with his first son to swear who is responsible for the destruction and the alleged phone call to any members of the community.”

Recall on Thursday 2nd of October, 2025 at the Oba Palace, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom maintained that Pa Oghagbon Edosomwan remains the Odionwere and all the administrative work in the community is under his control on behalf of the Palace.
