Wike Is Too Big For the Vice Presidency, He Is a Presidential Material, and I see Him in Aso Rock Soon

Reno Omokri, a lawyer and human rights activist, has said that Governor Nyesom Wike is too big to be running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to Omokri, Governor Wike should be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when Alhaji Atiku Abubakar finishes his tenure.

Omokri, who featured on Arise Television’s morning show on Monday, insisted there was no crisis in the PDP and Governor Wike has no plan to dump the main opposition party.

“Governor Wike has told us in private and in also public that he’s never going to leave the party,” Omokri told Dr. Reuben Abati and his crew.

Governor Wike is even too big to become Vice president. I see him as somebody who would be President after Atiku Abubakar.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate and Labour Party (LP) are currently discussing a possible coalition for the 2023 presidential election in a bid to defeat the two major political parties.

Obi is the standard-bearer of LP while Kwankwaso is the flag bearer of NNPP.

The major talking point that has dominated the negotiations is the choice of presidential candidate and running mate between Kwankwaso and Obi.

TheCable had earlier reported that Jibrin said Kwankwaso cannot be a running mate to Obi, noting that the former is more politically experienced than the latter.

In an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, Jibrin said the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have treated the south-east badly, adding that the best opportunity they have now is an alliance with the NNPP.

Jibrin said for power to come back to the south-east, the geopolitical zone must support Kwankwaso to emerge as the president in the 2023 election.

“The south-east has been extremely treated badly by the APC and the PDP. For anyone in the south-east, they should be able to see that they don’t have a future in the APC or in the PDP,” he said.

“As members of the Labour Party, they should see that the party as it is today cannot propel Peter Obi to the presidency. The only opportunity that they have and which we are offering them is to come [and] do an alliance with NNPP.

“The hope it gives to the south-east, which is a tentative hope, is that since the era of Vice-President [Alex] Ekweme, the south-east has never been on the table to discuss the presidency, in real term.

“This is the first time they will sit on the table with the NNPP to discuss, sign a concrete agreement that after Kwankwaso, it’s going to be the south-eastern part of the country.

“The fact is that — does Labour Party have a state? No, they don’t even have. I’m speaking from my own point of view that one of the safest routes for them is to go into alliance with NNPP, for Peter Obi to run as a running mate and after that, the power can go back to the south east.”

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Abuja said leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) will sustain the hearing and healing process that it started to ensure fairness, justice and oneness before the 2023 general elections.

In an audience with some APC senators on the outcome of the party primaries and its implications, the President noted that complaints were received by some members, and that machinery had been put in place by the National Working Committee to address their various concerns.

“In keeping with our ethos, therefore, I shall continue to address the ensuing challenges and grievances through the party machinery while paying keen attention to the outcomes.

“I must also remind you of the primacy of justice in all our actions. If justice is denied, the outcome is usually unpleasant.

“This is because you are the members who keep the party running. I should add that as part of the policy of using the party machinery for effective resolution of conflict, the Chairman and some members of the National Working Committee visited the National Assembly recently to dialogue with our legislators.

“The leadership of the party is currently addressing the outcomes as part of the way forward. I am encouraging all the party functionaries to adhere to the truth and to be fair to all parties in any dispute,’’ he said.

Buhari told the APC senators that the strength and victory of the party in the election would depend on unity of members and ability to prevent injustices or heal them, perceived or real.

He said: “As the leader of the party, one of my primary roles is to ensure that our culture of internal democracy and dispute resolution is strengthened by creating the opportunity for members to ventilate their opinions, views and grievances at different levels.

“Notwithstanding the fact that we have accomplished 23 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, our journey is still in a nascent stage and we continue to learn from our challenges and mistakes. Similarly, our party is still evolving in its culture and practices and it is my expectation and hope that we shall attain a mature level in our internal conduct.’’

The President urged party members to exercise restraint and continue to demonstrate commitment to the ideals, while the leadership continues to build and develop the APC and the country.

“I have noted your grievances particularly as it concerns the just concluded processes, the cost to the nation, the threat to the majority position held by our party in the legislative chambers and likely consequent cost to the electoral fortunes of our party as we approach the general elections. We must not allow these dire threats to come to pass.

“I must acknowledge that in every contest, there must be a level playing ground just as there would be grievances at the end. That is the test of our democratic credentials, systems and practices. I have since the conclusion of the processes been inundated with various reports and complaints,’’ he added.

The President assured that “justice shall prevail, aggrieved members shall be assuaged and the interest of the party and the nation shall be protected.’’

Buhari thanked the senators for suggesting a meeting on the issues, which include the future of the party and pursuing solutions to the challenges thrown up by the recent election related activities, particularly, the primaries.

In his remarks, leader of the delegation, Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, said at least 22 senators and members of the party were unhappy with the outcome of the primaries in their states, noting that they felt disenfranchised by the process.

He said the legislators had made sacrifices for the growth of the party and democracy in the country, asking for the President’s kind intervention.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in finding a running mate.

At an event in Abuja on Sunday to mark Gbajabiamila’s 60th birthday, Gbajabiamila told Tinubu that he would find him a running mate Tinubu could enjoy working with.

“You (Tinubu) said in your address that many years ago you consulted with a younger brother on the issue of WAEC and that consultation bore fruits.

“I give you my own parting shot. It is that time again to consult with your younger brother. I will give you a running mate that you will enjoy working with. But this time the consultation I promise you will not be for free,” he said.

Tinubu had paid glowing tribute to Gbajabiamila, describing him as a worthy individual.

Tinubu said he discovered Gbajabiamila as a potential politician even though the Speaker was reluctant at first.

“As a Minority Leader, he consults wide and he’s always there to see the thinking of opposition that we must bring a revolution to the House to be able to beat the PDP.

“When he was challenged for the position of the speaker, I think after our merger he worked for me tirelessly; Femi is a workaholic. The problem of failure stared him at the face. He lost the election to become the Speaker.

“I was close to tears. Stamping my foot to the ground, I said we will win again. Femi keep up. Pick yourself up. I am very proud of you that you did, you didn’t give up. You did the opposition and the support job. You demonstrated what we learnt from textbooks and other authors.

“Femi with your determination, grit, you are a contributor to our democratic growth, thank you. You have character. You are a great mentor and you are doing a good job charting a path to success. You’ve done a good job and I say thank you, thank you.

“What you did during my primary is a story for another day. I’ve spent more time, too many times and people might be bored, they might be envious too, they might be jealous. I won landslide, I thank you.

“I could see his deputy (Wase) sitting down there too, you are a very good symbols of unity, dependability, and honesty, thank you. Thank you for both of you. You’ve not rocked the boat. I will need to learn from both of you, how you made the pair work because I’m still searching for my running mate,” Tinubu had said.
