Health / Get Rid Of Your Love Handles by eatandgrowslim: 10:40am On Dec 21, 2013
"Love handles" are the extra bit of fat around the waist which have named as such because they serve as a point of support on the woman during love making. This has been a constant source of embarrassment amongst the women folk and the men as well.Below are a list of exercises and recommended foods to help to lose your love handles. You'll definitely look better in clothes without them and this will help boost your confidence.

1. Regular Exercises
By far and wide, there’s nothing on Earth that can help the process of toning and shaping your body quite like regular and carefully target exercise. And in the love handle department, there are plenty of exercises perfectly suited to reducing their size and appearance.
Bicycle Crunch

The bicycle crunch is a simple twist on the standard variation. To perform the move, begin by lying on your back with your hands behind your ears. Next, carefully raise your right knee toward your chest and at the same time bring forward your left elbow to meet your knee in the middle. Alternate between left and right, straightening your bent leg as your bring the other in.
Russian Twist

Sit on the floor with your feet flat and your knees bent. Next, begin leaning back into a gentle incline that forces you to use your abdominal muscles to remain upright. When comfortable, stretch your arms out in front of you and begin twisting your torso first to the left, then to the right. The exercise can be intensified by holding a medicine ball or any safe weight.
Side Plank Hip Dips

Line up your arm beneath the side of your body and rest either on your hand or your forearm. Next, dip your hips toward the ground in a slow and controlled movement, before raising them back.
Plank Knee Drive

The plank knee drive involves entering the plank position (you can rest on your hands or your elbows) and bringing one knee in at a time in a slow motion until it almost touches your elbow. The leg is then returned to a straight position and the other leg brought forward.
Low Plank

To perform a low plank, lay down on the floor and rest on your forearms and elbow. Next, lift the weight of your body using your feet and legs, holding the position for up to three minutes before gently lowering back to the ground.
High Plank

The high plank is performed in the same manner as the low plank, though using the full length of your arms to rest on your hands, rather than your elbows.

Health / Behavioural Strategies For Losing Weight At Work by eatandgrowslim: 4:38am On Dec 14, 2013
When we think of weight loss, we often think about what we eat. The questions we ask ourselves tend to revolve around how much fat, protein and carbs to eat, or whether beets help take off the pounds.

Diets touted in the media as optimal for weight loss abound, yet we remain a nation with an obesity problem.

What we tend to ignore, when we think of weight loss, is how we are approaching and managing the process of change. As important as it is to focus on what you eat to lose weight and keep it off, it is equally crucial to consider physical activity and maintaining lifestyle changes over time.
How to make behavioral changes, what strategies we use to adhere to new ways of eating and increasing physical activity cannot be ignored.

The problem is that making changes to your lifestyle is hard. If it weren’t, we wouldn’t have an obesity epidemic in this country, nor would estimated health care costs for physical inactivity have been $76.6 billion in 2000 (admittedly an older statistic, but unlikely to have improved significantly in recent years).
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which focuses on changing how you think about yourself, how you act, and circumstances that surround how you act, is an effective treatment for a wide range of problems, including weight loss. Key to it is its focus on making changes and sticking to them.
So, what CBT strategies help people to lose weight and change lifestyle behavior?

1. Goal setting.
If you want to meet the goals you set, consider the following three factors:
the more specific a goal, the more likely you are to achieve it;
ambitious goals are good, but overly ambitious goals can be discouraging;
regular feedback on progress improves outcomes.
When it comes to weight loss, then, a goal to eat fruit for dessert, rather than cake, is specific and can be clearly tracked. Specific goals around exercise or types of food you will eat — behaviors you have control over — are better than goals to improve cholesterol or glucose levels, which may fluctuate for reasons outside your immediate control.

Health / Tame Your Salt Habit by eatandgrowslim: 4:30am On Dec 14, 2013
A lot books, health magazines as well as blogs have hinted on the need to reduce our salt intake. This cannot be over emphasised, to make you understand this, I'll try to paint a clearer picture from a scientific angle. If you went through high school biology you would have come across the term "Osmosis". For those of you who never touched biology or even elementary science , its really not that complicated. It is defined as the movement of water from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration through a semi permeable membrane ( something that is porous and selectively allows fluids to flow through e.g. body cells). When we take in too much salt the body through a process referred to as osmoregulation to stabilise the body, increases the absorption of water ( through semi permeable membranes in the kidney tubules) and thus increasing the volume of blood and subsequently increasing blood pressure. This is a sure way to develop hypertension.

Health / Water Therapy by eatandgrowslim: 1:21pm On Dec 09, 2013
Water is essential for good health so we need to take in enough fluids. It makes up 60 percent of our body weight and is required for most body functions. Lack of water leads to dehydration, which can drain our energy and make us tired. Water aids digestion and is required for metabolic activities which burns the fats and carbohydrates we consume. Individual water requirements vary according to activity, state of health and location. For instance people in the tropics would consume a lot more water than those living in the temperate regions because of the high intensity of the sun. The European Food Safety Authority recommends daily fluid intake of 2.0litres for men and 1.6litres for women.

Health / Watch Your Carbs by eatandgrowslim: 1:12pm On Dec 09, 2013
When you eat a lot of carbs (carbohydrates), you tend to bulk up because they attract water molecules. So even if you aren't gaining fat, per se , you're still retaining a lot of unnecessary water that will make you look and feel bigger than you'd like. Read more @....http://eatandgrowslim..com
Health / 10 Recommended Food Habits by eatandgrowslim: 1:03pm On Dec 09, 2013
Its quite easy to slip back into our old way of doing this even after our resolve to follow through with proven healthy eating habits. The following should help us keep on track.

1. Always Eat Breakfast
Breakfast helps to kick start your metabolism. Studies have shown that individuals who eat an ideal breakfast lose more weight than those who have a small breakfast. High fibre meals are highly recommended as it makes us more alert during the morning, probably because these meals take longer to digest than say, a bowl of cornflakes or a doughnut, so blood sugar levels remain steadier. Health / How Many Meals Do I Need Daily For Weight Loss by eatandgrowslim: 5:48am On Dec 06, 2013
Some dieters believe the key to weight loss is eating three meals a day without any snacks in between. Others think six smaller meals eaten throughout the day stabilize hunger and blood sugar. Who is right?
According to a new study published in the journal Obesity, researchers found that eating six meals a day does not control hunger any better than eating three meals. And as for claims that eating smaller meals throughout the day keeps metabolism active all day long, studies published by The British Journal of Nutrition found it was the number of calories consumed that mattered most, not the frequency of meals.
If you want to lose weight, nutritionists recommended eating foods that are rich in protein and fiber. These foods take longer to digest, which keeps you feeling full longer.
But as to whether you should eat three times a day or six, there’s no hard and fast rule. Some people like to eat frequent smaller meals and some like to eat larger meals. Both approaches can work. In the end, nutritionists say that the quality and quantity of your calories is what counts, not how often you dine.

Health / You Are What You Eat by eatandgrowslim: 5:21am On Dec 06, 2013
The type of foods you eat can either give you quality nutrition so that your body functions like a clock or it could make you fat and sick. Its really up to you. It helps to be be concious about what you take in , its origin and how it was prepared. If you leave the choice to someone else who may not be bothered about your body or health, you take a big risk my friend. Are you a" regular" at the cafeteria? How hygienic are their methods? Maybe you place orders for meals to be delivered. The problem with eating out is the fact that most of the food contain alot more calories than they should with salad dressings and fries topping the list. Ever wondered why fast food burgers are so cheap? Its no secret, they are made of low quality meat with parts of the cow which you would reject if it was offered to you whole. That's right!

Food which are closer to their natural state offer more nutrition to the body. The more processed the foods the lesser the quality of its calories. For instance, fruits, uncooked vegetables and nuts are good nutrient sources because they have received little or no processing. Cooked food concentrates your calories, raw foods contains less dense calories which is good for the body.

If you reading this blog, you are either on a diet or thinking of changing your diet. So you need to consider want you select from the shelves put in the trolley at the supermarket. What you eat on a regular basis affects you body. Henceforth, you should consider eating foods which bring about a positive outcome. Simply avoid junk food. Stop consuming large meals, rather settle for smaller meals at certain times of the day. The way we look physically is representative of our lifestyle. With so much information available, it has never been easier to live a healthier lifestyle.

Health / 11 Benefits Of Green Tea That You Did Not Know About by eatandgrowslim: 9:09pm On Dec 05, 2013
1. Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories.
2. Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage.
3. Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks.
4. Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them.
5. Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.
6. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells.
7. Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions
8. Blood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
9. Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers.
10. Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases.
11. Skincare. Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage.

Health / Re: Daily Exercise And Food Routine For Those Who Want To Lose Weight by eatandgrowslim: 8:55pm On Dec 05, 2013
Losing weight is not as difficult as people make out. It just involves a paradigm shift. In this part of the world, foods are rarely processed and most of the time we cannot tell the composition of the food items we purchase. But if we can keep to a few weight loss rules we'll be fine. For instance, if you are really serious about weight loss then u should avoid fast foods. Below are four reasons why you should avoid them:

1. Fast foods are loaded with fat, calories and sodium. A common order is burger and fries with a drink. Consider that the average person, with this one meal, can consume almost an entire day’s worth of calories, while falling far short of the nutrition requirements. Consider also, that someone eating this has consumed several day’s worth of fat and sodium in one quick stop. Despite the high caloric content, these foods are low in nutrition and with the lack of fiber and other real nutrients, the body will feel hungry soon after, setting up another situation for adding calories.

2. Fast food businesses make their money by volume. They can sell cheap food because they purchase low quality ingredients that are filled with additives and chemicals designed to hide the poor quality of the actual food. The meat contains growth hormones, and a very high fat content. Much of the grilled meats is brushed with margarine on the grill, adding transfats and calories to a selection that most think of as healthy. Propylene glycol is added to retain moisture to food, such as crisp lettuce leaves and plump chicken strips. It is also an ingredient in antifreeze. Sodium phosphate is a foaming agent used in soap, also used as a food additive. Titanium dioxide is an artificial color, it is also sunscreen. By law, MSG must be listed as an ingredient. There are however, many ways to get around this. If a company purchases a spice mix from another source, it is simply listed as spices and artificial flavoring. Ammonium sulphate is another additive used in bread, and in fertilizers. Some artificial colors used crushed red bugs for the coloring and dough conditioners use human hair or duck feathers. Lost your appetite yet?
The emphasis on speed has it’s price as well.

3. Fast food workers generally are the lowest paid and most pressured employees. Food gets left out, cleaning can get sloppy or skipped altogether. Many soda and ice machines are left unclean until they literally don’t work. They are frequently filled with bacteria and mold.

4. Many outbreaks of food borne illnesses can be traced to fast food. This can be for several reasons. One is the source of their products. Slaughterhouses are under constant pressure to increase production. This work is dangerous when done at a fast pace. Injured workers are common and even some deaths. Mistakes happen during the butchering process and cross contamination is possible when a line worker’s knife moves too far and pierces and intestine. This has been the cause of several e-coli outbreaks. Coupled with the practice of using meat from animals who were raised on large amounts of hormones and antibiotics, this fast meal no longer looks so appetizing.
