The Danger Of Procrastination Procrastination can be defined as the constant practice of putting off tasks. It is a deceptive way of avoiding responsibilities by postponing what ought to be done now until some other time. Sometimes, we procrastinate without much consideration of its consequence. Sincerely speaking, it has no positive impact on those who get down with it. Read how to overcome procrastination More so, procrastination is responsible for several ills and has robbed many people of their will power to work. it makes you see reasons as to why you shouldn’t do those work at the moment. Often times, it furnishes your mind with lots of reasons why you should just postpone those things you are supposed to do now. Invariably, you are made to believe that tomorrow is the best time to work. As a result of this, you tend to put off your tasks till tomorrow; spending your whole day in idleness or in things that aren’t that important. From all indications, there is absolutely nothing you stand to benefit from procrastination. Hence, you must not allow it in your life. The following points clearly explain how dangerous procrastination can be to you. 1. Procrastination brings failure Anyone who fails to work at the right will always experience failure. That’s the basic truth of life. It is for this same reason that many students fail woefully in their exams. Likewise, a farmer who fails to sow his seeds at the right time will have nothing to harvest afterward. Procrastination is a perfect builder that lays the foundation of failure; and, anyone who still procrastinates will be heading towards failure. 2. Procrastination breads disappointment Of course, procrastination makes life very difficult and unbearable for people. This is because of the fact that it wastes precious time. More so, procrastination punctuates the life of any individual with periods of sorrows and disappointments. You can attest to it, can’t you?. In fact, there are times when you felt disappointed because of your failure to do what you are supposed to do even when you had enough time. Thereafter, you are left with a conscience reminding you of how bad you misused the time at your disposal to work. 3. Procrastination wastes time You must always remember that procrastination is one thing that eats deep into your time on a daily basis. You tend to lose good amount of time whenever you procrastinate. In the long run, the time available at your disposal for productive tasks becomes sacrificed for other less important tasks. At the end of it all, you are left with just a little or no time at all. Hey! Get this fact right that procrastination wastes time and that any time you give to procrastination is gone forever. 4. Procrastination breeds idleness Procrastination makes you ten times useless to yourself. That’s the fact. All it does is to keep you in perpetual laziness. Or better still, it keeps you busy—doing nothing. The worst part of it is that it provides you with enough reasons as to why you should remain idle. That’s bad, isn’t it? Procrastination is a nice employer—an employer of idleness. It employs you to work in the field of idleness. And if at all you decide to do anything worthwhile, it’s surely going to be a task that is counterproductive. 5. Procrastination promotes laziness Don’t be surprised to hear this: procrastination promotes laziness. It makes you much more indolent than you can ever think of. It does all things possible to make sure you hate work by destroying every bit of will power in you to work. Finally, procrastination tricks you into thinking that you are very tired to work. Meanwhile, you tend to feel energized and ready to exert all your power in other tasks that are pleasurable and counterproductive. These are show that procrastination does not add value to your life. Hence, you should make effort to ensure that procrastination is dealt completely. The ants are one of the most successful creatures on planet earth. Although a small animal with fragile body build, the ants happen to be very wise and resourceful. Their success lies, in part, to their ability to tolerate virtually all kinds of weather conditions –be it dry or wet, cold or hot. Also, they possess some qualities upon which their success can be attributed to. These qualities form the basis of our discussion as we study them all in detail. As we go on, I will be highlighting the various lessons you can learn from the ants as a student. Sincerely, I implore you to take these lessons with all seriousness; if really, you desire to lead a successful and organized life that amount to an excellent academic accomplishment in your chosen field of study. And I strongly believe that you can achieve your desired success, if and only if, you could emulate these qualities of the ants. Although, we all desire success in everything we do but I’ve written this article specifically for students in all levels of education. So, let’s get started. 1. Ants are hard-working Ants are known to be hard-working. They work very hard almost every day to provide their immediate and distant needs. This helps secure their future making it possible for them to lay up food reserve for themselves. In like manner should you, as a student, learn to always work hard. You shouldn’t see it as a stressful task but as a prerequisite for excellent success. Working hard doesn’t kill. I know there are lots of folks out there who hold on to the strange belief that hard work kills. Well, I don’t want you to be among such folks because working hard doesn’t kill. When you hold on to such belief, it becomes almost impossible for you to tread on this noble path to excellent success. Now, if hard-work doesn’t kill; then, what does? Well, laziness does kill. I know this for sure because the ant tells me so. You can’t die of hard work; but laziness. As a matter of fact, the so called “laziness” has for long been destroying the bright future of many students. Laziness is always associated with failure, shame as well as reproach. In contrast, hard-work sustains and promotes life; it’s always associated with success, joy as well as promotion among others. Therefore, in other for you to excel in your chosen course of study as a student, you must be hard-working. You must not associate with laziness and idleness. You just have to get up and work. Read up your lecture notes as often as possible and do your assignments promptly. You should always remember that productivity as well as excellent success comes after hard-work. 2. Ants are focused The ants are known to be highly focused. They know where they are going to and make enough effort to get to their destination, despite the presence of any obstacle along their path. To prove this point, place a stick or any obstacle across the path of any ant. What do you notice about the response of the ant? Can you observe how the ant goes around the obstacle to continue its journey? This, the ant does no matter how long the obstacle is. What this simply means is that, ants are focused. They tend to focus their attention on their destination. As such, they pay no attention to any form of distraction. With this, they are able to lead a successful life. As a student, you must learn to be focused. Ensure that your focus is always on your academic studies. Always keep your vision, goals and aspirations in view. Doing this consistently each day helps you remain focused and thus, making it possible for you to achieve whatever you desire to achieve in life. 3. Ants are determined and persevering The ants are known for their determination and perseverance to get what they wanted at any point in time. They are determined to excel in spite of any obstacle. This is evident in their quest for survival. They are very dogged in their search for food. In like manner, you must determine to excel as a student and work tirelessly always to achieve your desired goal. You shouldn’t allow anything hinder you from accomplishing your dreams and aspirations. Nothing should stop you from achieving your set goals in your studies. Nothing should hinder you from getting through the college/university. Nothing should prevent you from being the best that you really are. At this point, it would be valuable to take some time out and reflect on those things that stand as distractions to you. Once you have identified them, you must make a firm decision to get rid of them. Do this without hesitating. This is very important because, it determines how far you will get to in your chosen course of study. 4. Ants are self-disciplined Self-discipline is one of the key factors that contribute immensely to the success of the ants. It’s amazing to see how disciplined the ants are. For instance, the ant has neither a guide nor a director to instruct them on what to do, when to work and when not to; yet, they are able to coordinate their activities and work efficiently. This single quality of the ants goes a long way in determining the prosperity and, in the long run, the posterity of the ants. With this ability, the ant is able to do its work dutifully irrespective of any prevailing circumstance. In the same vein, you should inculcate this quality of self-discipline as you go about your academic activities. You must learn to carry out your class works and other projects/assignments dutifully even without anyone watching over you. Don’t give in to procrastination because, it is deceptive and destructive. Develop the mindset of always acting “now.” This helps you defeat procrastination. Also, don’t think of running away from difficult or unpleasant tasks. This is because; there is really no shortcut to success. Rather, you should face those tasks with an unrelenting commitment towards getting them done. Be self-disciplined; don’t waste your time on tasks that aren’t necessary. Then, ensure you get rid of friends that come around just to engage you in unprofitable ventures. Beware of time wasters. 5. Ants co-exist It’s hard for you to see the ants fight one another. They live together harmonizing their strength towards achieving a common goal. This unity demonstrated by the ant is beyond human comprehension. This is because; we, humans are of the opinion that you have to outsmart your neighbors, course-mates, or colleague in other to succeed in life. This concept is known as “survival of the fittest.” Such kind of competition is unhealthy and leads to breakup of friendship as well as conflict. Well, in actual fact, the ants do not compete with one another. Each day, they work very hard in synergy towards achieving a common goal. In like manner, you should learn to work together with your course-mates in school. This is important because it gives you the opportunity to share ideas with them and updates your knowledge on any particular field of study. Participate in group discussions. Resist the temptation to work alone. 6. Ants are self-less To be selfish is to live for one’s own self. In such case, the center of interest is always “I.” In contrast, to be selfless is to live for others. In this case, the emphasis is more on others and less of self. This is a good quality you can find in the ants. The ants are self-less. This is because; the thought and desire of every single ant is entirely on the needs of the colony. And when such an ant goes out in search of food each day, it does so with the interest of the colony at “heart.” The evidence of this quality can be seen in this fact that upon sighting any source of food, an ant goes out to invite other ants to the place where the food is located. This is an act of selflessness. Now, what lesson can you grab here as a student? Simply, you should always consider those around you in school. Be selfless but not selfish. Don’t hide any material that would be of benefit to your course mates. Rather, share them. Be willing to give out stuffs that you course mates are in need of and learn to always lend your helping hands to them. By so doing, you will be putting smiles in their faces. Be a friend to them. Also, be interested in the success of your course mates. Keep in mind that your actions have a remote reward. At this point, I have been able to discuss the qualities of the ants that make them highly efficient and successful. Emulating these qualities of the ants distinguishes you from mediocrity and helps you achieve excellent success in your chosen field of study. Concentrate on these qualities and go through them over and over; for therein lies your success. http://creativepodium.com/six-important-lessons-from-the-ants-for-students.html |
Time is a concept that we use commonly in our day-to-day activities. It is the basic concept of life by which all events and tasks are scheduled. Among other treasures on earth, time is arguably one of the most valued gifts of man. As a matter of fact, time is one of several factors that modifies human existence. This is because it is the unit of life by which the lifespan of any individual or event is measured. Just like other treasures on earth, time is well sought for by many individuals because of its relivance to life. However, time is the most mismanaged resources. We all desire more of it but once it comes our way, we end up doing little or nothing with it only to become amazed to find out that it has gone again. Another interesting thing to note about time is that, time presents to us limitless opportunities to develop ourselves and to get tasks done. Moreso, we all have almost the same amount of time each day, that is 24hours. Consequently, we have almost equal chances of developing ourselves and getting various tasks completed. Hence, you have no excuse to give if you are unable to use this opportunity that time offers on a platter of gold. Bearing this in mind, it becomes pertinent to state here that the success you desire in life is dependent on how well you are able to manage your time. Hence, the importance of time management. It is in this light that I have decided to write this article to educate you on how to manage your time effectively with the use of the Principle of Time Management. Principle of Time Management Time management is a deliberate effort made towards a proper coordination of tasks within a given time. In other words, it is the ability to perform a given task completely within a specified time. From the definitions given above, there are three salient points that I want you to take note of about time management. 1.Time Management is a deliberate act What this means is that, time management is an act that you practise with a purpose in mind. That is to say, you do it consciously. It is not what you do with a causal attitude. It's a conscious act geared towards achieving a desired goal. Hence, you should be determined and disciplined enough to manage time effectively. Time management deals with the coordination of tasks. You can only talk about time management if and when you have tasks to be done. These tasks could be some basic day-to-day activities such as house chores, minor office work, going on shopping, etc or it could be complex activities like preparing for seminar presentation, personal study among others. You are expected to get this tasks arranged in your to-do list and keep it closer to your reach so as to get yourself reminded of what task you need to embark on at any given time. Be it as it may, time management is a function of tasks to be done coupled with the proper coordination of these tasks. 2. Time management is time-bound This simply means that there is need for you to create a time-frame for each task that you intend doing. This is important because it is the bedrock of an effective time management, without which you are unable to manage time. Also, this prevents you from wasting so much time on a particular task at the expense of other tasks on your list. In deciding what time-frame to choose for each task, I was able to come up with a system called the the Multiplex Pattern of Time Management Basically, this pattern involves the division of the whole 24hours of the day into fragments. Each fragments is made up of one, two, three or four hours. In other to understand this pattern, let us take a brief look into the various patterns. A. The One-hour pattern This is a pattern of time manage in which the 24hour in a day is divided by one hour. What you get at the end is 24 fragments with each fragment having a duration of one hour. Thereafter, you can allot a fragment to each task. With this pattern, you will be able to fix a time frame of one hour to each tasks on your to-do list. This idea helps you to attain a level of organisation in running your day-to-day activities because with it every task in your list is taken care of. This pattern works best for all domestic activities that do not consume much time. B.The Two-hour pattern This is what you get when you divide the 24hour in a day by two hours. This leaves you with twelve fragments in which each fragment has a two-hour duration. Thereafter, each fragment can be allotted to each task. The two-hour pattern is suitable for some domestic activities, music rehearsals as well as for personal studies. C. The Three-hour pattern Here, the whole day is split into eight fragments. This is obtained by dividing the whole 24-hour by three hours. At the end, each fragment has a time duration of three hours. This pattern finds relivance in tasks that are time consuming. D. The Four-hour pattern The Four-hour pattern is obtained when the 24hour in a day is divided by four hours. This leaves you with sixfragments in which each fragment has a time duration of four hours. This pattern is suitable for complex tasks that are time consuming such as academic activities, professional services, research work, learning new things, etc. At this point, it is necessary to state that no particular time fragment is mutually exclusive. That means, you can adopt a combination of different time fragments in your task schedule. Nevertheless, it is of best practice to stick to one particular time fragment. To sum it up, time mismanagement has been a challenge to everyone but a regular practice of time management is vital to remedy the situation. This you can achieve by applying the principle of time management. So, get up and start managing that time to your own advantage. Estharfabian:I thought physical appearance of a guy dont really count. Well, as long as he is a gentleman and acts right, go for him. |

Raiders:I'm sorry for calling you mumu. Dont be offended. It's not wise to quarrel over someone else's business who doesnt care about us. |
Raiders:Mufu, u fail to understand that politicians dont hunt their party members. If GEj had decamped to APC after the election he would have been left alone unprobed like Amaechi. OBJ was a PDP member until d eve of the election. You know why? Think like a criminal, oh sorry, I mean as a politician then u would understand why. No politician is clean. They are all corrupt. The good ones get influenced wen they get there. Rubbish |
Raiders:Mumu, u can say that because Obj's regime has not been probed yet. Wonder why he installed Yaradua so dat his loot will go undetected. If PMB was a saint he would have extended his probe to OBJ's regime else he should keep quiet. All politicians are the same-- selfish crooks with criminal mentality. Rubbish. |
