A journey meant to connect Port Harcourt and Aba turned frustrating on Thursday, September 4, 2025, when a passenger train broke down in a remote bush area around Imo River, leaving travelers stranded for hours.

Poor Maintenance Culture: Chronic underfunding and inadequate maintenance continue to weaken the system, raising questions about reliability and passenger safety.

Security Risks: Being stranded in isolated areas heightens the vulnerability of passengers, especially given past incidents on other routes, such as terrorist attacks on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor.

Passenger Experience: Beyond technical problems, travelers frequently complain about dirty coaches, lack of working amenities, and poor service delivery.


For many Nigerians, this ordeal is yet another reminder that while modern railway projects are being commissioned, sustaining reliable operations and ensuring passenger safety remain an uphill task.

But when you consider that Naira has been devalued, you will see that Tinubu's government has not done anything special.

Let's analyze 2014 and 2022 under Jonathan and Buhari respectively.

In 2022, non oil revenue was 7.145 trillion naira. The exchange rate was 1 dollar to 447 naira. 7.145 trillion naira was worth 15 billion dollars in 2022..

In 2014, non oil revenue was 3.861 trillion naira. The exchange rate was 1 dollar to 184 naira. 3.861 trillion naira was worth 20.9 billion dollars in 2014.

This year 2025 has not ended, Jan- August non oil revenue is 20.59 trillion naira which is 13 billion dollars.

2014 under Jonathan: 20.9 billion dollars

2022 under Buhari: 15 billion dollars

2025(8 months) under Tinubu: 13 billion dollars

13billion dollars for 8 months means an average of 1.62 billion dollars per month. With 4 months left, An estimate of 6.5 billion dollars is expected to be generated. Which will give a total of 19.5 billion dollars.


From the above explanation, Tinubu's government hasn't done above Jonathan.

Creating state police when the present Federal police is understaffed and under financed. Should first things not get first things first? We have all sorts of people in different uniforms, yet banditry, kidnapping and other forms of crimes continue unabated? Why waste the resources when we all know the issues?

The painful part is not the taxes and levies but what they are used for at the end. They are used to further enslave the masses.
