Anambra people say it the most to Abakaliki people. They also deride themselves to be first class and the main Igbos while Abakaliki inferior Igbos.

Abakaliki Ibo is slightly different from central Igbo because it’s on the fringes (outskirts) and they were isolated from Igbo towns for decades making their Ibo dialect unique and secluded.

Also, because they prefer honest living, the poor among them rather hawk banana and sell traffic than involve in dishonest living such as yahoo yahoo, drug pushing, scam and rituals.

These dishonest sources of living they rather not practise makes other Igbos see them as timid and inferior in mindset. So they rather be poor than involve in fraud? It baffles them.

So they question our Igboness.

We are unique, honest, hardworking in honest living(legitimate living), and we don’t care.

Abakaliki men still marry Anambra girls, but Anambra girls who accept them are few. Some Anambra girls still turn them down because they’re from Abakaliki.

Some, not all. But as far as the look-down on Abakaliki people is concerned. I will emphatically tell you it is REAL in the SE.

Besides the insults are largely not done in outside SE enclaves but within SE region such as Anambra, Enugu.

If you want to witness it, go to Onitsha and ask any Anambra man what is the average thing he thinks about Abakaliki people and hear his derogatory statements he uses to insult his father.

The fact that you hardly hear it in PH further buttresses my point that Abakaliki people are not stereotyped by rest of Nigerian or non SE cities or tribes, but more within SE, you agreed with what I said invariably.

I have lots of Rivers friends including one who really wanted to date and marry me but she was a little older I turned it down but the Anambra girl I wanted told me her mama said she shouldn’t marry Onye Abakaleke.


The slurs against Abakaleke people are real man.
