Politics › You’re A Cheeky Hatchet Jobman’ – Umahi Replies Wike’s Comment On Court Ruling by Ebubu6(op): 11:37am On Mar 15, 2022 |
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has carpeted his River state counterpart, Nyesom Wike over his comment on the court ruling that sacked him from office.
Recall that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja had sacked Umahi and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his reaction, Umahi described his removal and that of his deputy from office by Justice Ekwo as “a hatchet” man’s job, adding that the judge was wrong in his ruling.
After which Governor Wike lambasted Umahi for verbally attacking the Judge who sacked him from office, claiming that the PDP masterminded the judgement that had Umahi and his deputy sacked from office.
In his response, Umahi slammed Wike for hinting that he orchestrated his sack from office, adding that his colleague should stop speaking as if he has the Nigerian Judiciary in his armpit.
In a statement on Monday by his spokesman, Francis Nwaze, the Ebonyi governor asked Wike to explain to Nigerians how he masterminded the ruling without being a Judge.
Umahi described Wike as a cheeky hatchet job-man for making such an unguarded comment about him, asking the people of Ebonyi to ignore the submission made by the Rivers governor.
The statement read, “We have come across a video by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike in which he was quoted as saying that he masterminded the Abuja High Court judgment on Governor David Umahi’s defection to All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Not much surprised at the comment though, we would have ignored it as one of his blubberings but it has become imperative we make a few annotations for clarity.
“Wike from the statement has taken responsibility for the pronouncement of the Federal High Court, thus requiring that he explains to Nigerians how he now calls the shots in the Nation’s Judiciary without being a Judge.
“While we will not get intoxicated and begin to comment on a case that is already pending in a Court of competent jurisdiction like Wike, we like to place it on record that Ebonyi State is not in the same geopolitical Zone with Rivers State and so nothing would have prompted Nyesom Wike to make such unguarded comment about Governor Umahi if he is not a cheeky hatchet job-man.
“It is on record that Governor Umahi since the legal battle started has conducted himself properly by filing an appeal in a Court of Superior records and did not resort to horse-trading like his counterpart, Nyesom Wike who speaks as if he has the Nigeria Judiciary in his armpit, which is impossible.
“We are however not unaware that the envy of Nyesom Wike is the earth-shattering accomplishments of the Governor Umahi led administration in Ebonyi State which include but are not limited to over seventeen twin flyovers, State of the art King David University of Medical Sciences, the best of its kind in Africa, the shopping mall, the best International Airport in Nigeria, payment of civil servants, massive empowerment of the youths, widows, clergy and so much more.
“While not joining issues with the Governor, we like to remind Wike that hence he riggled himself out of the 2015 Appeal Court ruling dismissing him as Governor of Rivers State, Governor Umahi would come out of his current legal issues stronger and unscathed while still proceeding on his presidential ambition gallantly.
“Not minding his looney voice, we want to emphasize that Governor Umahi and Ebonyians have absolute confidence in the Nigeria Judiciary to carry out an unbiased adjudication which would open a new vista of precedence in justice dispensation in Nigeria.
“We urge Ebonyians and supporters of Governor David Nweze Umahi across the Country and beyond to remain peaceful and resolute lest the likes of Wike and other political desperados score a cheap political point by the reason of their conduct at a time like this.
“We also enjoin Ebonyi citizens and the reading public to disregard the hapless surmise of a man reputed for orchestration of unhealthy and brutish governance under a Democracy.” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/03/youre-a-cheeky-hatchet-jobman-umahi-replies-wikes-comment-on-court-ruling/

APC wasn't declared the winner, so he should kindly vacate the seat and seek fresh mandate that will recognize him as David Umahi of APC. Why didn’t the court collect ask Atiku to return his certificate of return Abi going to INEC after he left PDP to ACN while still being Vice President and after he won VP seat under PDP and decamped in 2006? Supreme Court settled it then that Atiku will retain his certificate of return. Why are now doing as if Supreme Court is not the highest court of jurisdiction in this land? |

Politics › 2023 Presidency: My Fate In God’s Hands, Says Emefiele by Ebubu6(op): 12:31pm On Feb 15, 2022 |
Published 15 February 2022
Governor of the Central Bank of Nigerians, Godwin Emefiele, has reacted to calls for him to contest for presidency in the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, it is the prerogative of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to map out his succession plan.
The CBN governor was quoted as speaking when a ‘group of his friends’, tagged ‘Friends of Godwin Emefiele’, visited him to discuss the controversy over his rumoured presidential ambition in 2023.
In a statement issued by the group and obtained by The Cable, Emefiele maintained that he would leave his fate firmly in the hands of God.
“Only yesterday, as the speculation became widespread, a group of his friends under the aegis of FRIENDS OF GODWIN EMEFIELE met with him to clarify his position,” a statement signed by the group, reads.
“Here is what he told us: That he remains focused on his job and will continue supporting the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government’s economic recovery drive; that in his career trajectory, right from his days as a young banker, he never asked, nor lobbied for a job, he was invited by the Board of Directors to be the Chief Executive Officer/Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank as he was an integral part of the team, led by founder Jim Ovia, that transformed Zenith Bank from a start-up to one of Africa’s largest banks with subsidiaries in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, South Africa, Dubai, China and the United Kingdom.” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/02/2023-presidency-my-fate-in-gods-hands-says-emefiele/amp/

Politics › I Want To Succeed Buhari Without Offending Him by Ebubu6(op): 10:02pm On Feb 12, 2022 |
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Saturday said he is willing to succeed the President Muhammadu Buhari but does “not want to offend him.”
Mr Tinubu said this during his visit to the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Michael Gbadebo.
Mr Tinubu, who was on a consultation tour in Ogun State over his presidential aspiration in 2023, also visited the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Sikiru Adetona, in Ijebu-Ode.
Afterwards, he headed to Ilaro in Yewa, Ogun West Senatorial District.
The two-term Lagos governor had informed Mr Buhari of his plan to contest the 2023 presidential election.
At the palace of the Alake, Mr Tinubu said his aim is to become the President of Nigeria.
“I clocked 50 on the seat of governor,” he said.
“I have done crusades to return Nigeria to democracy rule, before I started hearing the voices of the people that I should contest for President, I have thought about it deeply, but I cannot think about it alone.
The people said, this time around I should run for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I told them that we have elected someone there and I don’t want to pull the carpet from his feet.
“I told the President I want to replace you and I don’t want to offend you. I told the President that I want to step in his shoes but not step on his toes. As the number one citizen, I should start my bid by informing you first, and he (Buhari) told me to inform the whole world, and I have done that.
want to seek the permission of the Kabiyesi, I want to seek his blessings and his prayers and seek the blessings of other chiefs.
“I’m here to tell you (Alake) that, I want your prayers and I want to inform you that I want become the President.”
In his response, Mr Gbadebo welcomed the presidential hopeful and prayed that God would grant his desires of becoming the President.
On his way out, Mr Tinubu told journalists that he will make Nigerians happy if elected president.
He, however, admitted that the country is passing through difficult times. Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/02/i-want-to-succeed-buhari-without-offending-him/amp/

Politics › Again, PDP Postpones North-west Zonal Congress Amid Crisis In Kano Chapter by Ebubu6(op): 5:50pm On Feb 12, 2022 |
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its North-west zonal congress earlier scheduled for Saturday, Febuary 12.
The National Organising Secretary of the party, Umar Bature, in a statement on Friday, said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party announced the shift of the event.
Mr Bature said a new date will be communicated later.
The party had in April in Kaduna suspended the congress after supporters of the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, clashed with those of a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, at the event.
The warring supporters destroyed ballot boxes before voting could start, forcing observers and other officials to flee the scene.
The main subject of the dispute was the position of zonal National Vice Chairman.
Mr Kwankwaso is at odds with former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, who leads a rival faction of the PDP in Kano. Both men presented candidates for the position of the zonal vice chairman.
On Thursday, the Kwankwaso’s faction obtained a court order restraining Mr Wali’s backed candidate, Bello Hayatu, a former senator for Kano North, from participating in the election.
Also, the factional chairperson loyal to Mr Kwankwaso, Shehu Wada, in a statement, reaffirmed the earlier suspension of Mr Hayatu whom he accused of anti-party activities in the 2019 elections.
“As we approach the impending Northwest zonal party congress, the state executives of the PDP in Kano State and its 44 local government chairmen met on Wednesday the 9th of Feb. 2023 and unanimously endorsed his suspension from the party due to his political romance with the ruling All Progressives Congress and direct involvement in anti-party activities as alleged by his ward during the 2019 general elections.
You may recall that Gwarzo ward has issued a suspension letter to Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo. The suspension was endorsed by the local and state executive committees.
“We wish to intimate the national working committee and the board of trusties of the party that We followed the necessary due process as enshrined in the constitution of our great party, (the PDP), this same procedure was followed to suspend the former national chairman of the party Prince Uche Secondus and today, the current NWC is the biggest beneficiary of such a process legally provided by party’s constitution.
“I wish to confirm that I am today in receipt of a court order directing both the National and the state chapter of our great party to stop Senator Bello Hayatu from participating in the up coming northwest zonal election.
“It is therefore necessary for us as a party to obey this order to avoid unnecessary legal tussle capable of spoiling our party’s bright chances in the coming 2023 general election
“Glaringly, Senator Bello Hayatu worked for Governor Ganduje’s re-election and he was rewarded by appointing his aide as the Managing Director, Kano Zoological Garden and some Special Advisers in Ganduje’s administration.
“Therefore, the state executive committee reaffirmed the suspension of Senator Gwarzo, as such he does not have the right to contest any position in the party. It is our prayer that he will be withdrawn from the list of contestants as par the said court order,” the Kwankwaso’s faction said in the statement.
But Mahmina Lamido, the spokesperson for Mr Wali’s faction, said Mr Kwankwaso cannot stop their candidate from participating in the zonal congresses because “they did not officially receive the court order.”
Mr Lamido said on Aminci Radio in Kano that: “We did not receive any court order send to our leader, for this reason, nobody can stop us from participating in the election.
“Even if we have seen the court order, the election is not a new one, it is just a completing part of the previous one (allegedly) disrupted by Kwankwaso’s supporters because they have sensed failure.” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/02/again-pdp-postpones-north-west-zonal-congress-amid-crisis-in-kano-chapter/amp/

Politics › Tricycle Riders Seek Independence From NURTW by Ebubu6(op): 4:21pm On Feb 12, 2022 |
The Tricycle Owners and Operators of Nigeria (TOOAN), on Saturday, called for a different identity for tricycle riders to enable them to address their peculiar issues and improve their welfare.
The Lagos State Chairman of the association, Azeez Abiola, said the time is ripe for a separate and independent association for tricycle riders.
Mr Abiola, popularly known as Istijaba, made the call while addressing journalists against the backdrop of recent clashes between members of TOOAN and members of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State.
He appealed to the state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to wade into the matter.
“Our union has been existing for over 20 years now, but there was a time we experienced leadership crisis and we were called upon to choose between NURTW and Road Transport Employers Association.
“We were then affiliated with the NURTW, and since then, we have been paying our dues and other levies directly to the union. It spanned the two previous administrations of NURTW executives.
“However, while we are affiliated with the NURTW, we have our activities controlled by our local executives until recently when the newly-appointed NURTW boss, Alhaji Musliu Akinsola, popular known as MC Oluomo, called for the dissolution of our executive committee.
“After the dissolution by the incumbent administration of NURTW, caretaker administrators were imposed on us, those that are not directly involved in our business,” he said.
Mr Abiola said that the TOOAN had to write a petition to the national body of NURTW in Abuja, to state its plight and it was resolved amicably.
“We wrote a petition to the national body of NURTW in Abuja and we were called for a parley together with the NURTW Lagos executives; we stated our claims, and we, as TOOAN members, were asked to go back to status quo.
The resolution of the meeting, which had in attendance all the management of the NURTW national body, was that we should choose executives among TOOAN members for Lagos chapter since we are an affiliate of NURTW.
“We were also instructed to pay all our dues and levies to the Lagos State chapter of NURTW; we all assented to a copy of the resolution in the meeting.
“Under the new arrangement and resolution, I was chosen to be the new Chairman of Lagos State Chapter of TOOAN on Feb. 9, and the national body of NURTW directed that we should continue to operate in our existing state office,” he said.
Mr Abiola, however, alleged that the Lagos State Chapter of NURTW failed to honour the resolution made in Abuja and sealed TOOAN’s office in Lagos.
“After the successful deliberations with the national body of NURTW in Abuja, I was summoned by the Lagos State Chapter of NURTW for a meeting which turned out to be a different reaction from the Abuja parley.”

Politics › 2023: Decision Of South Will Shake Nigeria – Wike by Ebubu6(op): 11:10pm On Feb 05, 2022 |
The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has stated that the decision of leaders from the Southern part of Nigeria would shock the country.
He maintained that the PDP will not be giving it’s presidential ticket to a candidate whose goal would be to serve the wealthy few.
Wike shared his thoughts through a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kevin Ebiri at a grand reception organised in his honour by the people of Kalabari ethnic nationality at the Abalama School field in Asari Toru Local Government Area on Saturday.
The governor maintained that the southern leaders would take a decisive stand concerning 2023 presidency soon.
He said: “The day the South will speak, Nigeria will shake. We believe in the unity of this country, but nobody can threaten us. Nobody should threaten us. We believe in the unity of Nigeria and unity of Nigeria must continue.
“No amount of gang up can make PDP to give somebody who will want to run election for the interest of some big men, and not for all Nigerians.
“Anybody who wants to be candidate of PDP must be candidate for the interest of Nigerians.” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/02/2023-decision-of-south-will-shake-nigeria-wike/amp/

Sports › Winter Olympics 2022 Begins In Beijing Today Amid COVID-19 Fears by Ebubu6(op): 8:39am On Feb 04, 2022 |
Published 4 February 2022 A Winter Olympics overshadowed by rights concerns and taking place inside a strict Covid-secure bubble will officially begin in Beijing on Friday with an opening ceremony at the “Bird’s Nest” stadium. The distinctive lattice-shaped arena took centre stage at the 2008 Games — seen as China’s coming-out party to the world — and will do so again as Beijing becomes the first city to host both a Summer and Winter Olympics. Friday’s opening ceremony starts at 8:00pm (1200 GMT) and will be attended by President Xi Jinping, under whose rule China has become a much more belligerent proposition in global affairs compared to 14 years ago. Xi, who will announce the Games are officially open, will be joined by leaders including his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin but the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia are among countries staging a diplomatic boycott over China’s human rights record, particularly the fate of the Muslim Uyghur minority in Xinjiang. Other countries cited the coronavirus pandemic for not sending officials. Their athletes will still compete at the Games, which run until February 20 and are taking place inside a vast “closed loop” designed to thwart the virus. Some spectators will be present at the opening ceremony but it is unclear how many and, like sports events at the Games, tickets were not sold to the general public because of the pandemic. World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will be among leaders of global institutions at the ceremony. The show is the mastermind of acclaimed Chinese film director Zhang Yimou, who was behind the 2008 extravaganza. Zhang has promised a “totally innovative” ceremony but conceded that the pandemic and freezing weather will limit its scale compared to the Summer Games, when 15,000 performers took part in a lavish gala featuring opera singers, acrobats and drummers. This time there will be about 3,000 performers and themes will include “environmental protection and low carbon emission”, Zhang previously told state media. But China’s assertion that these will be a “green Games” has been challenged by some experts because they are taking place in one of the driest places in the country and on almost entirely man-made snow. – ‘Not well suited’ – There are other concerns, including warnings from some Western nations about surveillance of their athletes and what will happen to them if they make anti-China comments or other displays of protest against local authorities. Gus Kenworthy, a British freestyle skier, said he would not be silenced and called China “not well suited” to be hosts. “In my opinion I don’t think any country should be allowed to host the Games if they have appalling human rights stances,” he told the BBC. On Thursday’s eve of the Olympics, about 500 Tibetans marched outside the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. They held banners reading “Boycott Beijing Winter Olympics”, “Stop human rights violations in Tibet” and “Games of shame”. There were also small-scale demonstrations in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Tibet has alternated over the centuries between independence and control by China, which says it “peacefully liberated” the rugged plateau in 1951 and brought infrastructure and education to the previously underdeveloped region. But many exiled Tibetans accuse China’s ruling Communist Party of religious repression, torture and eroding their culture. – Watching from afar – Concerns about Covid loom large at these Games. The nearly 3,000 athletes and tens of thousands of support staff, volunteers and media have been cut off from Beijing’s general population. China, where the virus emerged in late 2019, has pursued a no-nonsense zero-Covid policy nationwide and has adopted the same approach to the Games, with everyone cocooned inside the bubble having daily tests and required to wear a mask at all times. They cannot leave the “closed loop” until the Games are over. There have been more than 300 Covid cases in the bubble, among them an unknown number of athletes. Germany said Thursday six members of its team had tested positive on arrival in Beijing, without saying if those concerned were athletes or support staff. Unlike the huge celebration that greeted the 2008 opening ceremony, locals this time will have to enjoy it on television. Zhang Tao, a 43-year-old property developer, said he hoped the Games would have meaning beyond sport. “I really hope the Olympics can sweep away the gloom of Covid,” he told AFP. Politics › Taxes From Non-oil Sectors Reached 69% In 2021 — FIRS by Ebubu6(op): 8:08pm On Feb 03, 2022 |
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has said that the nation recorded a consistent increase in tax collection from the non-oil sectors of the economy in 2021, peaking at 69% from 38% in 2017. In its 2021 performance update, the FIRS said it collected a sum of N4.396 trillion as non-oil taxes compared to N2,507 trillion collected in 2017. “This feat was made possible due to the adoption of the in-house built TaxPro Max Solution and other strategic reforms implemented by the Service,” FIRS chairman, Muhammad Nami, said in the update. It noted that the year 2021 was a critical one for tax administration in Nigeria and in line with the law, 2021 corporate income tax revenue was based on business profits of 2020. The FIRS boss noted: “In the year 2020, the country entered into economic recession for the second time in 5 years. The recession was caused by a 5-month lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic. To compound the economic challenges of Covid-19, business activities were disrupted by the End-SARS protests. “Due to the recession, many businesses struggled to survive with very few reporting profits. The base for corporate tax was grossly eroded due to losses and business failures. “Upon the coming into office of the current Management, FIRS began strategic administrative and operational reforms including implementation of new policies that would improve its capacity to achieve its mandate.” He explained that the deployment of the new automated tax administration system (the “TaxPro Max”) in June 2021 was a game-changer. “With the solution, taxpayers experienced ease of registration, reporting, payment and issuance of Tax Clearance Certificates while the Service experienced greater efficiency in the deployment of resources thereby leading to improved revenue collection,” he said. The FIRS said the year was indeed very challenging but it opened a new vista of opportunities leading to very encouraging results. Politics › JAMB Adopts New USSD Code For UTME/DE Registration And Examination by Ebubu6(op): 7:36pm On Feb 03, 2022 |
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says that it has concluded plans to adopt additional USSD code to be used by examination candidates besides the 55019 code that has been in operation since 2018 for registration and other essential services offered by the board. This is seen as part of the measures by the examination body for a hitch-free 2022 UTME/DE and to ensure that there is no congestion during the registration exercise when a lot of candidates would be sending their requests through 55019 for registration and examination. This disclosure is contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin recently released by its Director of Public Relations, Fabian Benjamin, and can be seen on its website. The 55019 code is used to create profiles for registration by candidates who are required to send their National Identification Number (NIN) via the code for their details to be pulled from the database of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) before proceeding to a certified centre for their biometric capturing. Contents What JAMB is saying Why this matters Related What JAMB is saying The statement from JAMB partly reads, ‘’As part of the intensive preparations for a hitch-free 2022 UTME/DE registration exercise, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is putting finishing touches to all arrangements for the institution of an additional Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code to be used by candidates. ‘’The 55019 code is used to create profiles for registration by candidates who are required to send their National Identification Number (NIN) via the code for their details to be pulled from the NIMC database before proceeding to a certified centre for their biometric capturing. ‘’To ensure that there is no congestion during registration when many candidates would be sending their requests via 55019 for the 2022/23 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) Registration and Examination, the Board has concluded arrangements to have an alternative code with a similar function for the benefit of candidates should they encounter any unexpected challenge with the other code.’’ Why this matters JAMB has used the 55019 code exclusively since 2018 for the UTME registration and examination exercises successfully. The planned introduction of another USSD code is to help the examination board align its service delivery with global best practices as well as a desire to eliminating any hurdle that could ever be encountered by candidates in a bid to create their profiles. This would ensure that candidates get value for money spent as well as the quality service they deserve. Politics › Earn Legitimate Income Through Whistleblowing Policy, EFCC Boss Urges Youths by Ebubu6(op): 12:01pm On Feb 03, 2022 |
Published 3 February 2022 The Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has appealed to the youths and general public to embrace the Whistleblowing Policy of the Federal Government in exposing economic and financial crimes. Bawa made this appeal on Wednesday when he met with a group of social media influencers under the aegis of the Mofeto Miracle Shurch in Abuja. In a statement titled, ‘EFCC Boss Meets Leaders of Mofeto Miracle Shurch, Tasks Nigerians on Whistleblowing’ and posted on EFCC Facebook page, Bawa assured that the policy was still in force and closely monitored by the anti-graft agency. He added that whistleblowers have the opportunity for legitimate earning by exposing economic and financial crimes that lead to financial recovery. The EFCC chairman encouraged whistleblowers to make use of the EFCC reporting app, Eagle Eye, which could be downloaded from Google Play Store or App Store, to report economic and financial crimes cases. Led by author and human rights activist, Richard Akinola, the group said they have followed closely the performance of the Bawa-led EFCC and have come to the realization that concerted efforts are needed in the corruption fight. They promised to partner with the commission in the fight against economic and financial crimes. Other members of the group that were part of the visit include Lara Owoeye-Wise, Gbenga Aruleba, Yomi Odunuga and Kemas Osuji.
