*Over 7000 People Access Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation Free Medical Care in Anambra* Over 7000 rural dwellers in Anambra state have accessed the ongoing Free Medical Tour by the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation, a non-profitable organization. This was disclosed by the the consultant physician and *director/manager* of the Foundation, Dr. Ejike Ibeanusi as the Foundation concludes the first phase of her free Health Care delivery for communities in Anambra state, in Uga yesterday. According to Dr. Ibeanusi, the Free medical service had commenced in 2018 in all the 14 communities in Aguata Local Government Council Area. The towns include Achina, Aguluezechukwu, Akpo, Amesi, Ekwulobia, Ezinifite, Igbo-Ukwu and Ikenga. Others include Umuchu, Umuona, Isuofia, Nkpologwu, Ora-Eri. The final town in the local Government - Uga, was completed yesterday, and about 400 - 600 participants in each town were been attended to. According to him, "The exercise featured Health Education, donation of home kits for blood pressure and blood sugar test, free laboratory test and free out-patient consultation and drugs, as well as monthly road health walk to create awareness on the importance of Regular Exercise in curbing the negative effect of HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES MELLITUS. These two Non- Communicable diseases are the major health issues the foundation sets to address, as they are among the top 5 of health and economic importance in the GLOBAL BURDEN OF THE DISEASES. "Others include free eye test, free reading glasses and free cataract surgeries. Speaking in Uga, the founder and sponsor of the Free Medical Care, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo expressed happiness at the turn out of people in the community and others visited. He disclosed that having been touched deeply by the travails of rural dwellers in accessing quality health care services, his foundation deemed it pertinent to bring this most important sector to the door steps of these dwellers. According to him, "Health is wealth and It is only when one is healthy that he or she can think of what to do to earn a living. Our people die on daily basis over health issues that can ordinarily be solved if there are quality and affordable healthcare delivery services in our rural areas. This gesture is simply borne out of love and service to humanity. We commenced this in my community Umuchu many years ago but the positive impact on the people , as well as the clamour from neighbouring towns led us to extend it to all the towns in the council area, and we equally hope to permeate other towns in the state”. He revealed that the Foundation would in few months make in roads into communities in Orumba North and South, *to complete the OLD AGUATA UNION* , and eventually take this round the state. It is worthy of note that in addition to the Free Medical exercises, the foundation, through her founder, High Chief (Dr.) Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo has gone a step further to erect a hospital structure in Umuchu which is currently at the equipping stage, in other to combat child and maternal mortality as well reduce the cost of health care delivery in the Local Government Council of Aguata. Amaka Nwokeji, a petroleum engineer by profession and the founder of Lhambi footwear and fashion accessories company tells Tobi Adebayo, correspondent, makeitglobal.biz that her business focus is to meet the footwear needs of every woman with style, elegance and creativity. Laying emphasis on every woman, she reveals that the vision is to become the number one footwear manufacturer and provider in Nigeria by 2021. What made you venture into your line of business? I started out Lhambi to provide elegant and stylish footwear for ladies with big feet. I would classify myself as one of those ladies because I am a European size 42 and sometimes 43 which is a US 11 or 12. I have always had difficulty finding shoes in my size all the way back to my secondary school days. As I found it is a tad difficult to find decent shoes my size in Nigeria, it became a mission such that every time I had the opportunity to travel out of the country, I returned with half a suitcase of shoes in my size. I also noticed that this is a common problem as my four sisters wear size 42 and some of my close friends also wear size 42 and over. I started paying attention to ladies’ feet and asking how and where they sourced their shoes. Truth is, if you looked hard enough, you would find shoes in big sizes. However, most of these shoes are comfort shoes, sneakers or are found in the male shoe section. Furthermore, and in my opinion, these shoes come off as boring and flat. It is a general assumption that ladies with big feet are typically tall, as such, they would not require high heels. I am 5ft 9” and I love high heels. Based on my extensive interaction with many ladies both from my professional and social network, I believe that there is clearly a need and market for bigger sized shoes in Nigeria and Lhambi was founded to meet this need. How would you rate its success so far? The definition of success is relative. For Lhambi, success is about doing our job well which is satisfying the footwear requirements of every woman. Lhambi’s long-term goal is to be recognized as the go-to company that provides footwear for every type of woman – tall, slim, big feet, wide feet, flat feet, etc. Going by this definition and bearing in mind that our company is about a month old, the response and customer feedback have been very positive while sales have been growing steadily. We would like to think that we have been successful within this time frame. Check-in with us in a year and we would be in a position to provide more detail on the performance of the business. Lhambi The description on your Instagram handle’s bio says “because style has no limits…” Kindly shed more light on this? I mentioned earlier that Lhambi was founded to provide footwear for ladies with big feet. However, focusing only on big shoe sizes would be ‘limiting style” to certain sizes – the very need the company aims to serve. At Lhambi, freedom of expression is our guiding principle and this is what our slogan, “because style has no limit”, is based on. We believe that everyone should be able to express their individual style without limitations. The right shoes complement your outfit and as such, every woman should be able to dress however they like and wear whatever they want without any limitations. At Lhambi, we believe that every woman should be able to express their style without the limitations of accessing the right shoes. What helps you stand out from your competitors? We are focused on elegance and creativity. In addition to our unique style, creativity and high quality, our differentiator is the versatility of our products – the ability to meet the footwear needs of a wide range of clients. Our product quality is top-notch and made from the finest materials. Accordingly, our shoes are sturdy such that they comfortably and stylishly support curvy women, wide feet, flat feet and whatever footwear needs our clients require. Lhambi shoes are made with love for every woman by optimally combining comfort and style. Lhambi footwear What challenges are you faced with? The key challenge is the unavailability of in-country manufacturing. We don’t have the capability and capacity to manufacture shoes on a larger scale with the commensurate quality in Nigeria. Also, we do not have access to quality materials (e.g. leather, synthetics, textiles etc.) and shoe accessories like buckles and rhinestones. Another challenge we are faced with is that people are slow to trust a new brand or business. Being an online business, there’s a lot of convincing required to win potential clients over. We find that a decent amount of time and effort is channelled into marketing which involves trying to convince people of the Lhambi Brand and the quality products associated with the brand. How do you deal with overbearing customers? Lhambi is a new business and as such, we have not encountered this group of customers yet. However, my suggestion will be to set your business boundaries through clearly defined and visible policies. Second is to smother the customers with professionalism, empathy and most of all, kindness as they are an essential part to all businesses. Do not let anyone break you, hold your ground where needed but politely of course. Lastly, conflicts are a part of business so keep calm and never forget that ‘the customer is always right’ and should be treated with the utmost respect. Tips for start-ups The first and most important is to be a solution. Passion alone can only take you so far. However, ‘the sky is your starting point’ when passion is combined with a solution. Business sustainability largely depends on the ability to continually meet needs. Second is to face excuses head-on and not allow excuses to get the better of you. Given my background and career as 9 to 5 petroleum engineer, the entrepreneurial space was like going into unchartered waters. It was scary and my brain would make so many excuses not to venture into the business. However, when I recognise myself giving in to excuses, I consciously remind myself or talk to people that remind me of the need for Lhambi and this usually helps me get back on track. Believe in your solution! Third, listen! There are people who have been in your industry for a long time. Listen to every and anything but filter out what is important, do your market survey, research and ask questions. Essentially, get all the information required to make sound business decisions. Fourth, monitor your cost. Always, track your cost and do not take it for granted. Knowing how much goes into your business and how much comes out tells you a lot about the profitability and viability of your business. Lastly, speak up about your business. People must know about it to patronize it. Seize every opportunity to speak about your business. I do! I try not to miss any opportunity to tell people about my business. I recently attended a conference which had absolutely nothing to do with fashion, yet I found a way to strike up a conversation about shoes and then Lhambi. Again, people can not buy what they know nothing about. Source https://www.makeitglobal.biz/featured/amaka-nwokeji-lhambi-footwear/ Fynestboi, MissyB3
